New thread

New 3. 75 Black Series hits Walmart some time this month.

And people are starting to find the new shipments of 40th Anniversary Black Series
>>
All the new figures are re-releases. Ponda on ebay will cost you $80-90, now he'll only cost you $12. Start raiding your Walmarts.
>>
>>6327936
Make's me wish I sold mine before the re-release.

Are there any vintage collection hits that will NEVER be re-made?

Some of the more obscure background characters will also likely never get a re-pop such as Rum Sleg. He's like a $30-40 figure
>>
>>6327927
6" tusken raider when?

also, do I have a good chance of finding black series ben kenobi or am I sol by now? I saw the episode 3 black series obi wan and I almost bought it... but the paint apps were such dog shit I couldn't do it.

Obi-wan is my favorite star wars character, wish I had a decent figure of him.
>>
>>6328129
Obi-Wan is peg warming at the Gamestop near me right now. It's the only figure besides the Darth Vader for $45 that they have. I've seen it up there two weeks straight.
>>
>>6328129

I hate to tell you, but I think the Obi-Wan Kenobi figure is pretty meh. I have seen it a few times in the wild and passed on it every time.

The Black series still don't know how to make a proper human face.
>>
>>6328327
B-but muh sculpt...
>>
>>6328327
The faces aren't the best and they look pretty bad compared to ones like http://i.4cdn.org/toy/1494815533230.jpg but they're better than what most companies are producing.
>>
>>6328351
I still find it amazing how hit and miss Star Wars can be with sculpts. For 5 poa figures they'll be perfect or almost perfect then you get into the more articulated figures and 6" Black Series and the sculpts turn hit or miss. Sometimes even they completely botch a figure and it looks like shit.

>>
>>6327936
I know close to nothing about Star Wars, so why does he come with entirely diff shaped hands? Also that forearm with the pistol attached to it is bloody on the elbow connection, yet it plugs and function as a joint, what's that supposed to be? The other one I get, it's a stump that obi wan cut off right?? My question is why does he have two sets of entirely different hands? Legit curious.
>>
>>6328775
In A New Hope for a brief moment you can see that his hands are flippers. Then when his arm is cut off, a close up of the hand shows a hairy monster hand instead of the flipper hands.
>>
When will get get a Jar Jar Black Series?
>>
>>6328859
In the next fan vote.

The choices will be:

HK-47
Dash Rendar
Darth Talon
Cad Bane
Spiker
Jar Jar Binks

Binks will then some how win by a landslide and Hasbro will announce that they planned to use him for marketing all along.

I'd go for the MAFEX Phasma. Figuarts Kylo is good, just replace his robes with Black Series robes. MAFEX Kylo is nice, too, but his robes are really baggy, which sucks because his hood is perfect and has a bendy wire.

>Figuarts suck

Every fucking time on these threads.

Show me better human characters. Don't start with the metallic hair and face printing which look better in person, just show me a better 1/12 human figure of a Star Wars character and I dare you to make a convincing argument for why MAFEX is better.

Protip: You can't

Besides, while you're allowed to like and buy multiple iterations of the same character from different companies, blasting on Figuarts without specifically naming a better option just makes you sound like a bitter poorfag.
>>
>>6330124

Who here is arguing for someone to buy the Hasbro RotJ Luke?

All anyone is saying is that the Figurarts is rubbish.

Gold hair looks crap, apparently its an attempt at blonde hair... which is strange because Luke has brown hair not blonde.

The figure looks more like a young Malcolm McDowell than Mark Hamill. In fact, the eyes on the Black Series look like a better representation of Hamill.

Luke looks like he's wearing a vest instead of a shirt because the articulation ruins any attempt at sculpting his costume.

The Figuarts comes with this alternate head of Luke with windblown hair... except the scene its taken from is a different costume and the facial expression is completely wrong, Is it there just to make the normal head look not as bad?

In a view from the side, Luke actually looks like he might be wearing the vest from Tatooine, but he's not. That's just the poor costume sculpt.

Oh and before you start on being bitter because I can't afford it, I have the Figuarts Luke.

I was only cracking a joke at this dumpster fire of a thread but I'll bite.

I never said "poorfag" I said "broke" tripsfag said "poorfag" but he's got a point. All I've been reading here are a million reasons why SHF are better. I don't necessarily agree, I think some are better than others but the man's got several well laid out points and all you've done is skirt the initial point which was something along the lines of "the only reason people think BS is superior is because they are cheaper." I'm inclined to agree since nobody else has made any actual points other than trying to avoid the direct topic by getting petty and accusing people of samefagging while not admitting that price may have something to do with it. Frankly I don't give a shit what any of you buy and I personally get a little bit of everything but if you're going to make an outlandish claim "Figuarts are shit" then you better be able to back it up without getting retarded when someone else backs up their claim otherwise.

Shadows was the closest thing to a movie that Lucasarts put out. It was a novel, a series if comics, a game, a line of action figures and a soundtrack. George said it was the project he would have made if he could have in the 80's and officially put Dash's ship in A New Hope. The ship is in the movie and Disney days the ship is canon. Dash Render has to be canon then.

Depends anon.
It's an ASDA exclusive so either your ASDA is good and stocks them or it's bad and you're out of luck.

It's unconfirmed but it may be the case that they only appear in ASDA Living stores.

My store was great, they ordered a case every week and I brought 7 Shoretroopers and 6 Deathtroopers however this left many Jyn's and Cassian's.
I'm not sure how this next wave will arrive with these sitting on the shelves.

However if your area is shit, and I get mine and then my store has things sitting on shelves we can work out a deal. I don't mind doing that as long as I get something out of it or at least break even.

"Heavily implied" and a dollar might buy you a bag of chips but it won't make KOTOR canon.

The old EU now only acts as a bunch of ideas for the LSG to use as they wish. Just because they reuse certain elements doesn't make the material they sourced them from canon.

Fucking this. They can reuse whatever bits from the EU aren't deemed too retarded but reusing characters, ships, or basic story details from the EU don't mean everything else related to that character, ship, or other detail's backstory are necessarily canon unless also specified to be the case.

Yes, because the Cantina scenes were shot many different times and ways, so constancy changed (the cutaway to the bloody arm is clearly from anot her setup). That's why you'll hear about Greed wearing high heels...because in some shots it was a different filming shoot with a chick under the mask.

As for the figure, he comes with two right arms. One has the regular artic, the other has the bloody paint and the arm that is removable via peg.

The figure comes with an interchangeable upper arm that plugs into the shoulder. The lower arm can be pegged together into this, so you can recreate the scene where he has his arm cut off. That's why the spare upper arm also has blood painted on it.

I'm in a group right now where some guy is trying to sell off three of those Tie Fighters loose for $89 each because they're impossible to display. The Black Series line, particularly with what vehicles they've produced and are going to produce are ample evidence to why 6" Star Wars figures are a mistake. 3.75" is the perfect scale for the line and the variety of vehicles and playsets out there continue to make it the best and most enjoyable to collect.

>>
>>6331758
I changed my opinion of the 6" figures, now that TVC is coming back, I feel more inclined to support the 6" line because it won't take over the 3.75".

At the time, 3.75"'s future was uncertain and so I skipped alot of the 6" stuff so that Hasbro didn't get that money and replace the 3.75" stuff.
Now I'm kinda wishing I picked up some of those because most have gone up in value and so are impossible to get reasonably.
I don't mind the 6" so much because they look better on display, I don't want every character in 6"- Dr Evazen and Ponda Baba aren't needed- but main characters that looks good are welcome.

I plan on buying alot of 6" on FF simply because it actually does look appealing- Rey's speeder, Luke's speeder. etc.

Disney destroyed Star Wars.

They cancelled Clone Wars despite that there was around 60 more stories written including an ending tied into Episode III.

The next season would have had Fett finally donning his armor and killing Cad Bane in an western style duel.

https://youtu.be/AUEjsJHIJoM

They canceled the Darth Maul game, which Lucas wanted to set after ROTJ and would feature Darth Maul teaming up with Darth Talon.

https://youtu.be/oxlOoS4NmIA

https://youtu.be/-u19VA5ORvA

When George was retiring and agreed to sell Star Wars they gave him the impression they were going to make his ideas for the new Trilogy and spin off movies. He states here that he gave them all the material he produced for these ideas.

https://youtu.be/YyqlTi7lkhY

Then when Force Awakens came out, he said that after they read his ideas they didn't want to make any of it. He then made the statement about them being like White Slavers.

http://www.gameinformer.com/b/features/archive/2014/05/07/the-story-of-the-darth-maul-game-that-never-came-to-be.aspx?PostPageIndex=4

>A friendly George Lucas entered the room and was eager to hear the pitch from Red Fly’s creatives. “Before they could finish their spiel, Lucas cut them off, stood up, walked over to the statues, rotated them to be facing the same direction, pushed them together, and said ‘They’re friends!’” adds the source. “He wanted these characters to be friends, and to play off of each other. He talked about the show Burn Notice as a reference point. He likened Darth Maul to Sonny from The Godfather, and he likened Darth Talon to Lauren Bacall. He actually did an impersonation of her. It was supposedly the weirdest impersonation of a ’40s actress going, ‘Don’t you know how to whistle? Put your lips together and blow.’”

>The problem with the idea of Maul and Talon teaming up for a buddy cop-like experience was that they were separated by over 170 years of Star Wars fiction – as ridiculous of an idea as Frédéric Chopin forming a band with Dave Grohl. When this vast time divide was brought up to Lucas’ attention, he brushed off the notion of it not working, and said that it could instead be a descendant of Darth Maul or a clone of him.

Yeah, nah. It would have been a total shitshow.

The 6" Black Series Rey lingers because everyone who wanted one already got it during the run of TFA; the RO reissue was unnecessary. The rest of her figures move pretty well.

Jyn, on the other hand, is a disaster. Never mind that the character was one-dimensional and boring as hell, not to mention dead; her figures all have that weird Barbie look to them, are dressed in drab and uninteresting costumes, and were way overstocked. 5POA, 3.75" SA, 6", they all pile up and sell like shit. If your local store has one BS6 figure, it's Finn. But if they have two, it's Finn and Jyn.
>>
>>6333817
>pretty much killed Black Series
You (or somebody, because I've read this a couple times now) keep saying that with zero evidence to back it up, aside from your opinions about TFA. Yes, there were shelf warmers from TFA (as there are for every single movie toy line), but Black Series survived it just fine as we've had four (I think) waves of new Black Series since TFA and plenty more to come.

And TFA toys sold fine, outstanding even. Hasbro's stock and sales hit a record high in the quarter following TFA's release thanks largely to TFA merchandise sales, and their stock has increased something like 25% in the last year on top of that, again thanks largely to Star Wars sales.

Are things perfect in terms of distribution? Of course not, and you're welcome to your thoughts and opinions about how things should change, but you should stop using stories you read elsewhere to draw conclusions about sales that just aren't correct. I don't like how Hasbro is handling a lot of Star Wars toys now (especially as a vehicle collector, ugh), but making stuff up and treating it as fact doesn't help.
>>
>>6333868
>with zero evidence to back it up, aside from your opinions about TFA.

Forbes saying that Hasbro is trying to "win back" fans with 40th anniversary figures isn't proof? What trilogy are 40th figures from? Are they FA?

>Yes, there were shelf warmers from TFA (as there are for every single movie toy line), but Black Series survived it just fine as we've had four (I think) waves of new Black Series since TFA and plenty more to come.

How many of those waves have you seen in stores? Did you ever see Revan at Walmart or Target?

>And TFA toys sold fine, outstanding even.

Before the movie came out. When's the last time you saw a Rey or Finn, or a Zuvio. I personally saw a dozen Zuvios at the TRU near me last week. There's several Finns still at another TRU several milws away that I went to a few days ago. And as a matter if fact there's an article on jeditemplearchives right this minute complaining about the distribution and FA and RO figures clogging pegs.

>Hasbro's stock and sales hit a record high in the quarter following TFA's release thanks largely to TFA merchandise sales, and their stock has increased something like 25% in the last year on top of that, again thanks largely to Star Wars sales.

Do you work for Disney anon? Or Hasbro? Why is Hasbro trying to win back fans with 40th?

>you're welcome to your thoughts and opinions about how things should change,

That's what I'm doing anon.

>but you should stop using stories you read elsewhere to draw conclusions about sales that just aren't correct.

I'm relying on my own personal experience as a collector and seller. Your autism betrays you again anon.

>but making stuff up and treating it as fact doesn't help.

Hasbro attempting to floud shelves with Leia figures the same as Rey and Jyn.

http://www.jeditemplearchives.com/content/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=20377
>>
>>6333868
it wasn't TFA, it was the RO wave that killed the Black Series, or at least at my store. They since they added old TFA figures to pack it out, they get blamed as well. Now I have a stack of 10-15 each of kylo, Rey, Jyn, and Cassian, most of which came in on a half pallet for force friday. even at 9 bucks and change they are barely selling, mostly just the last few death troopers.
>>
>>6333934
I'm still seeing FA stuff at Walmart and TRU. RO I just see waaay too much Jyn out there. I haven't even felt inclined to buy any of the RO 6" black series. And my Walmart has like 30 of the 3.75 black series Jyns and old lady Leia figures each in two different sections. And they're marked down to $5 but nobody wants old lady Carrie Fisher. Who the fuck is that figure for?
>>
>>6333917
>Did you ever see Revan at Walmart or Target?
All signs point to that having fuck all to do with any pegwarmers but nice try
>>
>>6333944
all the 3.75 TFA wave hans/leias/finns is fucking hasbros fault, they sent us like 3 boxes of that wave long after we had gotten a few boxes of the emperor guard wave, like they were just getting rid of them or something.
>>
>>6333988
The same thing happened at my Walmart. I think it was because they wanted FA and RO characters to be on shelves. I only ever saw death troopers once in that line and I snagged all three. The Royal Guards I found twice in the wild, but never saw them again.
>>
>>6333974
Except that it did, because the case numbers were the same for stores like Target. That meant unless they sold out they weren't restocking and getting that wave. Jeditemplearchives also has an article on it. You weren't seeing new waves because stores weren't selling enough to warrant restocking.

They really need to work on their sculpt, because that sticker face doesn't cut it in actually giving it any depth.

I bought Walmart's 3.75" articulated Jyn because it's a female rebel who doesn't look boring, unlike adoptedTusken-Raider-human-female-whos-secretly-a-super-amazing-jedi from A New Hope Part 2.
>>
>>6333994
So we were supposed to army build Jyn Ersos so we might get a shot to play the Darth Revan lottery?
>>
>>6334207
Well if the stores weren't selling their built up stock of strong female protaganist, why would their order more from Hasbro?
>>
>>6334182
Different strokes, friend. At least Rey looks like a Star Wars character. If you showed me that Jyn Erso and didn't tell me where she was from, I'd guess she was a MCU or GI Joe character based on her bland, generic design. All of the RO characters just look so boring with the exception of Krennic, but he's wearing a modified OT costume.

Disney and Hasbro keeps trying to get women into collecting the toys at the expense of their existing fan base, much like video game developers and comic book companies. This is what's in store for us according to Forbes:

> Speaking of which, you can probably expect plenty of Rey from now on, including in a new line of dolls aimed at kids and collectors who prefer the kinds of toys more traditionally marketed to girls. And you can probably expect any toys based on Carrie Fisher’s final appearance as General Leia to be popular, as fans mourn the passing of one of the franchise’s major actresses.

So lots of Rey, Leia, and Jyn on those pegs.

>The first figure in this line to be named was the result of a fan vote, and brings diversity to the line in many ways: Doctor Aphra, a character introduced in the new continuity of Marvel comics, is an Indiana Jones-like archaeologist, who also happens to be a woman of color suffering from mental illness.

https://www.forbes.com/sites/lukethompson/2017/05/04/star-wars-40th-anniversary-hasbro-collectors-may-the-4th-black-series-expanded-universe-doctor-aphra-marvel-vintage-collection/

Look, I don't care if you call them Girls, I just want to be able to more easily army build Storm Troopers.

And not Death Troopers or Snow Troopers or ATST Drivers, regular ass normal Stormtroopers.
>>
>>6334634
I don't know if that will ever be the case for Black Series. At least not with the new movies on the way. Hasbro probably has a deal with Disney that forces them to shill terrible shit from these movies. I'm just wondering how shit things will be when Last Jedi comes out. I suspect that's why they're giving us The Vintage Collection back.

Jodo Kast he was an old K-Mart exclusive around when Vintage Collection was out.

He was a stand-in character for Fett in the old Star Wars RPG in the 80's/90's. He was a character players could kill that wouldn't hurt canon by killing Fett. Later a comic was put out featuring him.

He's a bounty hunter who aped Fett, trying to pass himself off as the famous bounty hunter, by wearing similar armor and getting hired because people thought he was Fett. Later after Fett fell into thr Sarlac Pit and everyone thought he was dead, Jodo Kast tried to full on steal his identity and ended up hurting Fett's reputation which lead Boba Fett to killing him.
>>
>>6334653

There's a storm trooper int he 40th wave, I am hopeful they will at least be double packed or something so they are easier to find.
>>
>>6334837
If they were smart they would release just cases of Stormtroopers and Royal Guards, but they wont. There's a rumor they're trying to discount figures and clear out the rest as "defective" and damaged goods, buying back the shitty peg warmers from stores since there's toys that have sat on shelves for about 2 years now.

ROTJ Fett from Vintage Collection is probably the best looking. His helmet is more accurate than the ESB one, because it doesn't have a removable helmet. The upper arms are better sculpted so the symbol on his shoulder isn't shrunk down to compensate for the arm joint like on the ESB.
>>
>>6335224
Agreed, I love those colors. One of my favorite SW figs honestly. I wish they'd release a Black Series 6" repaint...
>>
>>6335238
They'd have to sculpt a new belt and pistol. Hasbro would rather re-issue than spend resources doing new tooling and paint. They have yet to do a ROTJ version despite the demand. And while we're at it they could just re-use the mold and make a Jodo Kast varrient. It's like they hate money.

Part 1 of some customizing I'm.doing to Revan. Painted the middle sash a more game-accurate color.

The replacement hood and cape is temporary. I've got a new one that'll have the ability to put a bendy wire in the hood and cape arriving soon, and I plan to tatter the ends of it and potentially paint some mud and dirt to the ends of it, too, but we'll see.

I'm also going to give his armor and gauntlets a black wash to bring out the detail, then paint it a more accurate bronze with some silver weathering.

Thoughts?

And concept of what I'll be doing to the armor, done with my other Revan, which I use for testing.

This was done purposely sloppy, don't worry. I didn't do the black wash on this one and just wanted to see how the bronze would come out. Not as shiny as I'd like, but some glossy varnish might take care of that.

This.

Hasbro loves adding in at least one or two weak figures per wave and double or triple packs them per box. And who knows what type of distribution issues they'll have. I fear they may just reissue all the 3.75 Walmart exclusive BS which will clog up pegs and add in one or two "new" figures for each wave that youll probably never find at retail.
