It's true. They get a lot of criticism these days because they were sculpted too skinny and if their metal ankles get loose, there's not much you can do to re-tighten them. But yes, they are some of the most articulated SHFs out there. They have amazing range of motion in most of their joints because they're so skinny, and they have the most un-limited ankle joints I've ever seen: a balljoint attached to a dual hinge-style rocker. In addition, their diecast feet give them very good balance, so it's easy to pull off gravity-defying poses.

Yes, the sculpts have been clearly outclassed by the far more screen accurate SS figures. But the old Kabuto SHFs are still a ton of fun to pose and mess with, provided you find ones with tight ankles.

Is it possible you were just more excited about action figures back then and having a really great Kabuto figure that could do almost anything you wanted? Also they were cheaper back then so they felt more like toys to have fun with rather than display pieces you don't want to touch too often.

Then of course there is the fact that while 2.0 Kabuto is better visually it's only a "minor improvement" and so it's like buying more of the same. It's like buying a sequel to a really great video game that is basically a glorified mission pack because it's too same-y. Fun but will never come close to the amazing first time experience.

That's how I feel about a lot of 2.0 versions of stuff in general whether it's RD, figma or SHF. If I never owned the original I tend to be a LOT happier because it's my "first time".

I think the more "toy-ish" something is the more it brings up feelings of nostalgia from our childhood and it feels more appropriate to play with. Even if you remove monetary value from the equation no one is going to play with a Hot Toys like they would a SHF or a Marvel Legends. I think it stems from how children are typically told not to play with or break expensive adult things.

A lot of these newer releases make amazing display pieces but I find myself playing with them a lot less. Some of the more toy-ish releases like Amazing Yamaguchi Spidey/Venom and SHF Ryu/Chun Li get a lot more play out of me. Their designs scream "play with me!" "pose me!" because you got stuff like visible metal pins and joints that feel very toy-ish or designs that feel very playful and stylized. So even though they technically cost more i'm not as concerned with breaking them somehow.

OG Bugvisor is a good toy, with plenty of sounds and is solely for Dangerous Zombie.

Super Best is just the DX with more stuff included. OOO Super Best for example comes with the entire TaToBa medal line (So GataKiriBa, TaJaDor, and RaToraTa) which would require you to spend another hundred for the Taja Spinner and the DX 01 set to get the same thing.

CSM is adult-collectable stuff so you get a much bigger belt that will actually fit an adult, the driver itself is show accurate in terms of size if I remember right, the quality in general is better, and I think it has diecast bits and bobs? Gaia Memories are still the same if I remember right though. Especially get CSM Fang over DX Fang if you can afford it too.

NY only "jacks up" the pre-order price of exclusives by like 400 yen, it's an exaggeration to say they're scalping you, and even more so to say you're better off with BBTS. Just as an example, NY has Lazer for 5600 yen right now, versus something like 96 dollars on BBTS, there's just no comparison. The silver hand stands out a lot more on the figure than it does on the actual suit to me. Bandai uses a particular kind of silver that really pops on pretty much everything, and that can be both good and bad.

Eh, it's not like Drive had many retail releases either, if anything the (initially low) low sales on Drive stuff probably influenced the lack of confidence on the Ghost front, and the awful sales from that has resulted in the current situation.

Though why they decided to do drive as they did after Gaim is some sort of mystery. Retail Dead Heat was a mistake.

But really, it should have been obvious that every Ex-Aid release left was gonna be web exclusive after even the bike got hit with the P-B stick.

Any guides, tips or tricks on the differences between the DX, candy toy and gashapon gashats?
Also holy hell the gamer driver is expensive for something that has no electronics (that I know of) and it seems the DX gashats shot up in price.

DX (Except for Proto Max) and SG/Candy gashats are solid pieces that look like the show props. Gashapon are in three pieces that you put together and they have a little bump on them (see >>6331630 for the bump).

The clear piece on DX gashats is colourless, as it lights up when the buttons are pressed. The clear piece on SG/Candy gashats is a solid colour as there are no lights at all.

DX obviously has full sounds, gash and SG/Candy do not.

All Proto Gashats are assemble-it-yourself. There are other cases, like Proto Robots (from the Gashat Case) and Proto Chambara (from the Heisei Generations OST) are pre-assembled.

I'd love to get more Level 1's (since I doubt they'd ever get Figuarts), especially Lazer since that was really his main form before he got Chambara, but since we haven't gotten anything since Ex-Aid I doubt we're getting any more. Which is a damn shame.

$150 would be a great price, but unfortunately, anon, the prices listed on Tokullectibles are deceptive, since the first thing listed is usually the "deposit" option, paying half up front and the rest when it ships. The RAH would actually set you back 290 bucks.

That being said, while Tokullectibles is usually overpriced garbage, 290 for the RAH isn't awful, since the MSRP is 30K yen.

Of course, whether the figure is worth it to you is a different subject. I don't own any of these, so I can't help you there. Felt the price needed some clarification though.

The Bugvisor doesn't work like a Gashacon weapon though. It's a cool ass belt, but if you're going for something that feels like a weapon and can do a Critical Finish, I'd go with the Breaker. It's weighty, the gimmick is fun, and its button press sounds aren't retarded like the Magnum and Sword.

How's the Kamen Rider X Figuart? Does it suffer from old Figuarts syndrome, or is it a pretty solid sculpt?

How far out of scale are the "Movie Realization THE NEXT Kamen Rider 1&2" figures? I LOVE the designs for the movie suits, even if the movies are... kinda... fanfilmy.

Hey, I like the figures of the older suits, but i vastly prefer the heisei reboot suits due to the chestiece looking more flexible and armored than a huge chunk of rubber, it's the difference between the dragon shield from sentai footage and the og mmpr, some folks do prefer the flexible foam, others hard plastic, i like the biker leathers look for the suits over the old rubber and spandex look, however the dark green one does look nice, so parhaps it is much more the color than anything.

They cheaped out with the Level 1 Wizard Gamer and just CGI'd the face on top of Genm's regular one. So-Do is perhaps too accurate, so they took it literally.

I think you're being really optimistic. Seems very unlikely that they'd bother making the figure considering it would stretch the price point just based on size and not a single part can be reused. A lot has changed since they made the Powerdizer.
