Nice lighting
>>6318329
Thanks!
I shot it three times that day. Couldn't decide on the light.
>>6318337
First pic is perfectly lit. The second one is underexposed and the last is over exposed.
I want to try practicing taking toy photos more.
what do you shot with? i took decent toy pics but the fie was too large for 4chan, how do i make them smaller.
>>6318424
MS paint or GIMP.
>>6318424
Resize them, save as jpg, use 50% compression
>>6318424
I compress them in Photoshop. Ctrl+Shift+S and then save as Jpeg and then a slider would appear and you can slide it below 4 mb.
Additionally you can lower the height and width but you're going to have to input the resolution size yourself.
>>6318432
See, this looks perfectly fine and it's not a fuckhuge 1.5 MB file. I don't understand why this isn't the norm
>>6318432
Why does the crotch look so blurry compared to the rest of the figure? The hips are perfectly defined.
>>6318827
Looks like some wonky fake shallow DOF blur, that pic would probably be better without it.

Do we even have a general number of how many people are using mobile data when they browse?

Fuck'em. Why are they browsing a thread they know is likely going to be full of high resolution big file size pictures?

Which itteration exactly? Big Chap? Dog Alien? Warrior? I'm pretty happy with my Revoltech Big Chap. His head movement is a little hindering at times, but a far from that its a perfect figure that also comes with the Facehugger and Egg. And the head movement limitation fits his clunky movements from the first alien movie anyways.
The other revoltechs might be just as good, but i don't have them myself.

Counter the following statement:
(toy-)photography is a pay2win hobby. The better your equipment and your figures are, the better are your photos.
>>6329712
But if you're paying a shitload of money to post on an anonymous image board, are you really winning?
It's entirely about composition. A ton of people here use iphones and come up with great shots. Most of the shit photos on IG are good quality cameras with garbage editing(always with WAY too much contrast)
The reason Sgtbananas and Shadywar shots are so good has nothing to do with their cameras.
>better figures
The most interesting photos in this thread are Pose Skeletons.
pic not related
>>6329712
>(toy-)photography is a pay2win hobby. The better your equipment and your figures are, the better are your photos
Kinda not really. A good photographer will take good pictures regardless of their kit and a mediocre photographer isn't going to take better pictures just because the camera is better
Top Left was taken with an iPhone 4. Nothing to write home about but I've seen people take worse with a full frame four-figure camera
Top right is shortly after I got my Sony A200. Its a better camera than a cell phone but since I still didn't really know how to use it and was still learning basic photography the final product is worse than the previous one even though the camera is better
Bottom left is the same camera after something like 3 years. Its an improvement even though its the same camera. However, I found myself wanting something faster, more light sensitive, and sharper. This one takes relatively soft images that don't blow up very well. Anytime you hear someone tell me I need to focus it isn't a problem with focusing; its the image quality.
Bottom right was taken with my first outing with my Nikon D5100. Everything about this camera is better, so the images are a step up but that's also mostly due to the fact that I've also gotten better before getting a new kit.
>>6329739
>The reason Sgtbananas and Shadywar shots are so good has nothing to do with their cameras
So fucking true, and I love both their work. Shadywar posts around here on the 1:18 and Acid Rain generals. Sgtbananas is one ofmy favorites and the inspiration for me throwing rocks on the bottom right picture. His shit just comes alive. I also highly recommend Hot.Kenobi. He's great but very simple and minimalist proving you don't need to trek outside or build a shitty alley dio to take great pics.
A good camera will do well with a skilled photographer but gear isn't everything and no matter how expensive the camera a bad photographer will always take bad photos.
>>6329712
That's like saying you'll be a better artist of you get Photoshop/Illustrator. They're just tools, and if you don't know how to use them, you'd might as well be using MS Paint.
Sure, there's a lot more options with those programs, but you need the skills to back them up.
>>6330116
how'd you get the dirt to kick up like that?
>>6330152
I had a friend kick shit at it off frame while I kept the shutter going at high speed.
Sgtbananas and others use a remote and kick up debris themselves with either a brush, compressed air, or in his case just capturing firecrackers.
You gott turn off the autofocus, focus the image manually, then keep the shutter going while things are flying.
>>6329705
You don't really need props, but they do help. I wish I had more comfy stuff like a dollhouse bed or couch, but I can make do with what I have. Posing is the most basic way to convey comfy, and you only need your figure for that.
>>6330232
I feel you do need props to a degree-It doesn't quite carry the connotation of comfy to me without something to lean or rest on.
>>6330232
>>6330242
You guys want props? You guys want comfy? Check out captaindangerous
She's does amazing work and was even named a Brand Ambassador by Nintendo
>>6330242
I agree that props are fun, and they can bring a lot to a toy photograph. Toys interacting with each other or a prop can convey a sense of life that a lone toy might not be able to. But you don't need to buy fancy props either, going outside can give you a wealth of objects to interact with to add life to your photo. Plus, natural lighting is always nice.
>>6330257
Oh, it doesn't have to be big expensive props or anything. I just mean, like, a simple couch or some chairs or something.
Hell, all I've got for a chair is either an $80 robot or a plastic pizza...Thingy. That is put inside pizza boxes to keep the lid from touching the cheese.
>>6330260
Oh, and I guess the bottom half of an easter egg container thingy.
>>6330257
> you don't need to buy fancy props either, going outside can give you a wealth of objects to interact with to add life to your photo. Plus, natural lighting is always nice.
I couldn't agree more. One of the reasons I like captaindangerous and others so much isn't the props, its because they're either outside or lit by sunlight, which as you've stated is the best light.
I've been and remain very critical about the whole ACBA dio thing but the main reason is because I think pictures taken outside are better than pictures taken inside. Why go through the trouble of trying to sculpt rocks when you can just go out and shoot by some rocks?
I never understood their "everything in camera, no post" bullshit. Ask any photographer, and real photographer and they'll tell you post is just part of the process. As whole I think they suck because they're more focused on the "toy" part as opposed to the "photography part."
There's also a repetitive nature to dios and since they're indoors a lot of people tend to have poor white balance. I'm not saying they're all bad but like 90% all look the same and aren't done very well. Literally the only exception I can think of is Monsterlaut and even he follows a lot of ACBA tropes.
I can rant about it forever but the point is I'd recommend shooting outdoors anytime.
>>6330266
I can't take pics outdoors. A lot of people probably can't. Just don't got the place or space for it (city dwellers who can't do shit without the crowds in the way etc).
Realized Sylvanian Family furniture is affordable, detailed and the right size for Nendoroids so I'm going to be using them a lot in future
>>6330275
>I can't take pics outdoors. A lot of people probably can't. Just don't got the place or space for it (city dwellers who can't do shit without the crowds in the way etc).
Sure you can, you just have to get creative but you have the whole city as your playground. You know who invented toy photography as we know it? No, not the ACBA but people in Malaysia and Japan shooting around the city.
I took pic related on the top floor of a parking garage.
check out a guy named art_troopers_chicago. He mostly shoots right in the city. If you're not too far from a park thats an option too.
>>6330260
The only props I own are some Orcara mini foods (which I find scale better with 1/12 than Re-ment) and the Re-ment skelly tatami set, which is a bit too small for 1/12 but if you fiddle with it you can kinda make it work.
>>6330266
Shooting outdoors is unfortunately not always possible, due to weather or just living in shitty areas, but if you have the freedom to shoot outside it should be given a chance! I like dioramas too, but I agree often they are poorly done. Editing in post is good too, but I think a lot of people think they need photoshop or other expensive software to do so, which may deter them from even trying. Lately, I've just been using Irfanview to do some colour correction on shots, which isn't as great as photoshop, but has enough to satisfy me.
Sorry for the shitty phone shots, by the way.
>>6330293
>Shooting outdoors is unfortunately not always possible, due to weather or just living in shitty areas,
>>6330275
>I can't take pics outdoors. A lot of people probably can't.
Id tell you stop being so fucking lazy and go figure it out, but if you had that level of motivation, you wouldn't be taking such shitty photos to begin with.
>>6330293
As far as editing software goes I'd recommend Pixelmatr or VSCO apps. Although Lightroom and Photoshop can be bought in installments I'd give those two apps a try first and see how it goes.
If you really can't shoot outside you can still take great pics indoors. Checkout a guy named Hot.Kenobi
Took a couple outside visiting my mom today. I know they're no photographic masterpieces, but they were fun.
