most of these tend to be just... wrong to the eyes. High quality photos and stark graphic text doesn't mesh well visually imo. The shape of the text box and the font needs to fit the scene somehow

I like the retro look but I have no problem with photocomics that use clearer pictures and fonts other than the "traditional" comic font used in >>6328316. Even if some of them don't mesh that great, I wouldn't go so far as to call them unreadable.

I mean, some comics ARE horrible. But the stuff in this thread so far has been acceptable.

To each his own though. At least you're articulate and reasonable in the reasons you give.

I understand what you mean. I think a lot of it is a problem of legibility and framing. >>6328316 works for several reasons--the backdrop is not distracting, and the toys themselves are simple and almost graphic looking.

Whereas in say, >>6327780, the desk and monitor background is too visually cluttered, and Mazinger blends into the blackness a bit. ANd in >>6324466 we simply see too much and there's too much happening in the two middle frames. I had to slow down and really peer in closer to see the bat hit. >>6327800 is one of the best here, the blue background is clean and high-contrast and keeps you focused on the action. Most of the frames are also well-composed and don't overwhelm you with information. Yes, they have accompanying text, but I think these would work just as well with word bubbles.

Oh, also, forgot to mention this one >>6328350. There is simply too much text in each frame and it's too small, which sorta sets the "scale" for you. Like, if you open this comic in a new tab, you don't have a hope of reading it scaled to the window. You need to view it at full size and read each gigantic panel one at a time. This is not only tiresome, it also makes your comic nigh-illegible when viewed on smaller screens (like phones for example).

When making comics, you need to consider scale and ease of readability. This also applies to the photos you use in said comics, it's usually better to zoom in on your most important action so it's easy to see rather than showing big sweeping scenes that are hard to decipher.
