Anyone want to share their Combiner Wars OC's? Everyone gave their Rooks, Alphas, and Offroads to others voyagers, but I thought to give them to Aryan Prime since all the replaced (or lazily recolored) members of the scramble combiners followed a coincidental pattern.

I know they made it so the bumper hides away in bot mode because that's more cartoon accurate, but I actually prefer it with the bumper. Because, a.) fuck cartoon accuracy, and b.) I like a certain amount of vehicle kibble. It gives the bots character, and as long as it doesn't get in the way, I think it adds detail and usually helps for a more distinguished silhouette. Like how many Starscreams have the tailfins hanging off of his shins on the toys, while they're absent on the cartoon model. I think it looks better with the fins, and I feel like if we ever get another go at an MP Starscream, they're going to add 10 steps to a convoluted transformation just to make the fins disappear, when it looks perfectly fine with them.

Man, that new RID Windblade looks fantastic. It's incredible what a few color changes and a bit more paint in the right places can do. The only problem is finding one in stores with the paint applied properly, but it's still worth it.
>>
>>6316091
>It's still panel lining
Isn't panel lining the act of putting paint in the sculpted lines to make them stand out better, and not just the lines themselves?

Also I don't really know what point you're trying to make. We're aware the old Starscream has a lot of sculpted detail, like all of the old MPs. And we like it. The anon you're replying to was saying that if they make a new one, it won't and it will look bland.

>>
>>6316745

Takara recently released MP36, a new MP Megs. However, the body is pretty much fully painted, and has an involved transformation that, more often than not, will result in scuffed or scratched paint. The barrel accessory in particular is known for shredding the paint.
>>

That made me realize they should do an Animated combiner, do chest Groove as Prowl, Rook as Bulkhead, First Aid as Ratchet, I'm drawing a blank for a mold that works as Bumblebee and a 4th limb, and for the torso they would do Optimus obviously (still a firetruck, even tho the CW Optimus mold matches the silhouette better). Hell, they could even do an Elite Guard one. Onslaught as Ultra Magnus, Off Road as Sentinel Prime, maybe Jetfire/storm out of either 2 Air Raids or Skydives, and Dead End as Jazz.
>>
>>6316277
>A matrix accessory that when plugged in activates "prime modes" gimmicks that change their appearance and weapons.
That's probably what it'll be, but my hope is still for smaller robots folding into a chunk and being the chest for a body with an empty torso that has a helmet, a la Starsaber, Daigunder, or how Legends Ginrai should have been. Then the empty torsos could be trailers, boosters, extra armaments, etc, for the smaller robot's alt mode.
>>
>>6316380
With all the random stress marks and breaks littered across the last three lines, you still can't see how a gimmick where you have to force a tab into a tight hole and yank it out whenever you want to transform it can cause an issue?
>>
>>6316549

>>6316780

>>
As someone who actually has MP-36, I think it's really fucking awesome. It's the best-designed Takara MP of the ones I've bought, and easily the best looking Megatron figure ever made.

In pictures the paint can look more like a flat gray but in person it's a really particular sort of metallic finish, it really does look like a "cartoon" version of silver, it's cool. Of course, the paint is also the source of the figure's biggest problem, but mine so far doesn't have any paint wear that looks bad enough to bother me, there's just a lot of little hard-to-notice scuffs.

It sucks that it has that problem, but if it's the only way they could get the specific type of finish it has, I'd say that it's worth it. It looks better with the unique paintjob but having some scuffs than it would with a pristine coat of paint that was a more generic approach.

Obviously YMMV because some people are more picky than me about paint scuffs and stuff, but I'm a little bit picky (I'm literally autistic) and the amount, size, and placement of scuffing on mine has not been anything that bothers me.

TL;DR MP-36 has a paint scuffing problem but that should only stop you from buying the figure if:

1) You like to be able to really hamhand figures when you're transforming them (in which case the scuffing might be a lot worse for you than it was for me)

2) You're picky about small paint scuffs

or

3) You're just not willing to pay the way-too-high $230 price for something that has a problem at all
>>
>>6316774
Could be. The title is so vague it could be anything, though. The only thing to really expect is a new Optimus Primal figure given the poll results.
>>
>>6316304
Maasterforce is by far the best out of the 3 Japanese g1 cartoons. There's no corny weeb shit in there like Victory and it's not boring like headmasters was at times. Masterforce is fucking perfection.
>>
>>6316723
Been thinking about stripping the autobot logos off mine, adding more black, repainting the windshield silver and calling him gasket police type. Now if only I could give him a more ransack-like head.
>>
>>6316794

Oh also it's worth noting that have not put on the barrel extension or stock even once. The extra bits have never been things I cared about with Megatron idk, I think the gun looks cooler without them, so that's just my personal preference. I know people have gotten way worse paint scuffs and even breakages as a result of trying to get the barrel extension on and off, I kind of forgot about it. I think I saw some mods people have figured out to make it go on and off more smoothly like removing a part or something, but for $230 you shouldn't fucking have to do that lol. So yeah idk take that into consideration too, it's just for me that was a problem with an accessory I was never going to use anyway.

Been suffering combiner withdrawal since getting Baldigus and putting the final nail in the CW coffin. So I decided to bust out some PCC's and I had honestly forgotten how much I liked these little dudes. Drones being mostly trash aside

>Huffer
Simple but effective transformation, solid bot mode with an oddly pleasing shade of yellow/orange and honestly makes a better menasor torso than CW Motormaster.

>Searchlight
Neat copter mode and transformation. Everything hangs off on bot mode, torso mode looks cool. Shame nothing locks together in torso or bot mode. Not great overall.

>Smolder
Sick concept and name. Solid vehicle and bot modes. Torso mode is a bit fucked but I kind of like it in a monstrous sort of way.

>Icepick
Cool gangly freak of a bot mode with an adorable widdle face. Alt mode is just a block on treads. Torso mode is gnarly as fuck looking with a fucking rad headsculpt though it's a bit 2d.

>Leadfoot
Cool altmode, dig his botmode's big ol' hamhands and their transformation. Torso mode seems to lack an abdomen but I dig the pipes.

>Sledge
Fucking brutal looking alt and bot modes. Pleasing colors and good posability. Torso mode is a fucking disgrace.

>Undertow
Really cool looking alt and bot modes and solid posability. Torso mode leaves a lot to be desired though the old school diving helmet head is rad.

>Skyhammer
Cool jet mode, bot mode pretty much does what it needs to. Torso mode is equally as basic but I do like how the wings are place and the combiner head. Love the colors on this guy.
>>
>>6316752
>The barrel accessory in particular is known for shredding the paint.
Because everyone's doing it wrong, it's in the instructions to twist the barrel 45 degrees so it goes on smoothly.
>>
>>6316911
>Bombshock
Oh poor bombshock, conceptually he should be solid. He has a simple enough transformation and design that it shouldn't have been fucked up but it somehow was. Torso mode's lower half really needed another transformation step or two though I really love how the upper half of the torso forms. I feel like this guy was one more pass away from being really good. His drones run the gamut from okay to why.jpg

>Grimstone
Oh hey this team actually matches. Dino modes look good. Grimstones bot mode looks solid but is hindered by kibble. Torso mode looks great but the limbs jut out in every direction.

>Steamhammer
Now this guy here is awesome. Solid altmode with a unique transformation, stout badass of a botmode with mean fuck-you claws and easily the best torso mode in the line with a neat transformation trick with the vehicle plow. Even the drones are all generally competent and decent looking. Easily the star of this entire redheaded stepchild of a toyline.

Overall while this line had more than it's share of problems and was generally hated by most it also did a lot of really cool and unique things I think. Even the worst ones generally did at least one thing I really liked so the line holds a special place in my heart, plus they looked good in a cyberverse/legends display. Also real talk if someone took some of these designs like huffer, icepick or skyhammer blew them up to voyager scale and redesigned them to be CW compatible I'd by the fuck out of them.

Gotta say I'm surprised Target is actually going with the 19.99 per deluxe, 29.99 per voyager prices for movie toys.

Picked up the nurid Soundwave today. They also had Blurr and Skywarp, but I eventually decided against them. SW is pretty cool though. His chest is a floppy mess until I plug in his shoulder cannon which is odd. In an interesting twist of events, his vehicle mold is very hollow, but his bot mode is pretty solid. I like having another version of the TFP Soundwave and his head is really cool with some of the most effect lightpiping I've ever seen. The only cons are the way his arms swing down and don't really lock onto his upper arms and his plastic feels a little cheap. Worth it though.

Apparently, TM3 Megatron was an exception to the Saturday 'One Figure per Person' rule, so the first 10 or so people who were in line to get him bought the whole stock. Some people think it may have been big fansite sponsors suppressing the information to avoid suspicion on them. Of course why Megatron wasn't limited like every other figure is the bigger mystery.

Still, I'm sure it will get Knocked off. It happened to SG Prime, and this figure was way more limited than him. I just hope that someone asked why Megatron was scalped so hard at Pete's Convention.

Yeah now that I took the time to tweak a few little things on him to get everything to fit together a little more nicely, I think I can safely say that I don't really have any problems with MP Starscream.

The only thing I can say I really dislike are the little square panels hanging off his hips. They really limit and get in the way of leg articulation just to fill out two tiny little gaps in the jet mode. If they HAD to have those little panels, they would have been much better off as arm kibble that could just fold up flat against the forearms in robot mode. It wouldn't get in the way of the arms at all and it would completely free up the hips.

I'm almost tempted to just cut these panels off.

Last Wave of Titans Returns are going to be the remaining giftsets just like combiner wars.

>>
>>6318499
Yeah but that was already happening. Immediately prior to this we were paying high prices for toys with decidedly stripped down POA and transformation complexity. At least with Hound the price matches the quality you're getting.

That said, I still am not into Hound's design. The robo-beard is just too goofy for me. But it does look like a really good toy, and yeah, it does rather remind me of the glory days of ROTF.

Lucked out & caught all wave 4 deluxes from a less-frequented WalMart, looked like a fresh case had just been put on the pegs (ad-matched to TRU's 25% off sale last week)

Krok's legs seem a lot tighter than Skullsmasher's
Topspin is awesome, no doubt
Quake looks awesome, so far not as loose as (my Hardhead anyways)
Kup is pretty sweet, legs are a pinch loose but not bad
Perceptor has probably the only big issue for me, his TM connector port at his neck was super-super death grip right off the bat - I actually pulled the TM right off his own ball-jointed neck (little neck balljoint sticking out of the neck port), which is a first for me with this line

Go with Hasbro. He's supposedly one of the better deluxes lately, and the KFC thing is not good. Wrong blue, bad alternate mode, bad quality control. I had the white Scalpel version because I liked the sculpt/colors and really wanted the character in my regular collection, but sold it because it was kind of shit.

Hey, I picked up Cloud Roddy cheap(ish) recently--anybody have an idea as to how he scales next to generations Drift? I'm trying to keep my Lost Light/MTMTE shelf relatively in-scale, and I can't seem to find any good comparisons of Drift next to the Springer mold.
>>
>>6318693
Don't have pic but Generations Drift scales well with Springer mold. He's taller and thicker than your recent deluxes. It's the reason I hunted Drift down after getting Springer and Roadbuster.

>pre-order hasbro mp soundwave via shitty premium collectables
>still waiting after all these months
>find soundblaster (second hand) and new revision soundwave for decent prices

Tell me /tfg/, if by the odd chance my hasbro one finally comes...what should I do?

And who should I pick for the initial purchase, with soundblaster I can keep both sets of soundwaves at the cost of "oh he barely appeared in headmaters", if I get the takara revision it means I need to make a choice, while I wanted the hasbro one JUST for the whole g1 crew I can go without the red and blue dudes.

And is the hasbro reissue as bad as people say it is?

I sold my YOTG easily enough last year for this, would selling the newer one/soundblaster be effective/make a profit?
>>
Is it just me or does Black Shadow's Base and combined Vehicle mode remind anyone of a Spyrus lego set?
>>
>>6318738
I don't know what that is, but his robot mode reminds me of something you'd see in a sentai show.

No Dragstrip is just a repainted face of Arcee. The ones on there are all original ones made by Funpub.
>>
>>6318665
the KFc figure is undersized, it's like it was designed with a voyager in mind, and then downsized for costs, so the balljoint his tankturret/microscope sets in is THE TINIEST BALLJOINT I HAVE EVER SEEN! smaller than a frikkin megabloks halo dude's joints, and as such, it almost always pops out of the joint cup unless your finger is preventing that.

I'd say, the shockwave mold is worth it, but the first run perceptimus colors, worth no more than... $10, max, and you're gonna be customizing him then.

the later colors are better, with scalpel being the weakest, shockwave and soundwave/blaster are the best, and the supposed "corrected colors" version is better, but still has a hideous face.

none of the molds are worth more than $30, and that's if you REALLY want the design.

best thing is that they can draw their hip mounted guns like a real cowboy, but the alt modes are really, shit, NOT ONE THING holds in place, even if some tabe together, the vital bits are joints, so it all ends up... squishy.

In my case I used a cotton bud and just rubbed, it worked on my tlk slash because he had a random splash of silver on his raptor neck.

If you want to repaint the whole figure you could try that, but what I'd recommend for such an extensive job is to disassemble that as much as possible and leave out the metal parts.

Or just throw on some primer over the whole thing and paint over that, doesn't seem to bother it too much and gives grip to any new paint provided its sprayed on (because hand painting over primer is a bitch).

What? No way. Where were you when he came out and there were droves of geewunners pissed about how he was an amalgamation of the cartoon, the toy and the real car? They hated that his windows were tinted black and not painted blue, they hated that his torso was taller, they hated that his wings were transparent, and they REALLY hated his real-world Lancia paint job.

The thing with Wheeljack is that his Transformation was still simple and fun for its complexity, and he had plenty of detail because the designer wasn't really concerned with making Wheeljack look like he had just walked off an animation cel.

What the fuck is Hot Rod supposed to sound like? Why would they make that choice?!
>>
>>6319385
>What the fuck is Hot Rod supposed to sound like? Why would they make that choice?!
Because generally speaking they just put a name Hasbro has the rights to on a character and call it a day. That's not necessarily *wrong*, there have been plenty of re-imagining in the franchise over 30+ years but you can't blame people being annoyed when a character has nothing in common with a namesake except maybe some vague alt mode resemblance and being named after it.

It would be like making a movie-verse Ultra Magnus who is a younger autobot who look up to Optimus Prime and is super confident in himself and a gloryhound rather than an old buddy of Optimus who is generally better suited at being a second-in-command and Hasbro saying "Yup that's Ultra Magnus because...uh...he's a big white and blue truck?"
>>
>>6319358
Considering Hotrod seems to be aligned with some old guy who surrounds himself with transformers of old vehicles, making Hotrod into yet another ugly concept car no one will remember in a year instead of an actual hot rod for once seems like a massive missed oppurtunity.
