Honestly I've tried to give a few a serious watch through. Mebius is pretty solid, Orb's good, Nexus had some high moments, but I find the best approach is to find some kaiju you like, look up some fights with the kaiju on youtube, and go from there series-wise.

I love vinyl. Reminds me of being a kid and I feel like super articulated kaiju looks to weird and disjointed for me. I don't need the figure to hit poses the suits never could. Wish I had more vinyl but with so much out there it's a real pain to find stuff in the size ranges I'd like.

Got the new X-Plus 25cm King Ghidorah 2001. It is pretty bad ass. Went standard. The RIC extra, gold glitter on the body..meh. Really great looking piece all in all.

Honestly, I sometimes question why I even dabble in super articulated toys, I have a few Figuarts and Revoltechs but I barely do anything with them, they're mostly in static poses on a shelf and I hardly ever use 98% of my accessories anyway. They're basically made for the creative person in mind.

My vinyl collection is nice cause they're generally bulky toys that either sufficiently capture the character; or give it some special toy "personality" that can only be achieved through a vinyl mold, which is fine does a lot of justice to Showa characters in particular. With super articulation does come a broken up sculpt, but some of them can still be appreciate for the visual merit alone, particularly Space Godzilla SHMA.

A lot easier to clean too.

Picked up Neca Shin today and I was more than pleasantly surprised with the quality. The paint is probably its strongest feature, my only real gripe is the head but for 20 bucks it can't really be beat.

So neca shin turned out to be just a gmk 2.0? I mean both have a bad headsculpt, questionable paint, and bad proportions, from what ive seen

Never bought a SHMA before, how is the Godzilla SHMA 1995 (Birth Ver) "GodzillavsDestroyah" version of Godzilla? He looks to me the most like what I remember Godzilla looking like from the films I saw as a kid during the 80's and early 90's.

I have very vivid dreams most the time. Often dreams will involve toy shopping or browsing. I'll never forget this one dream I had where I found a really cool kaiju figure. I'll try my best to describe it:

Thanks guys. It has 4 dots at the bottom of the foot, so I guess it's the original. The torso popping off isn't an issue for me, only in extreme poses like I said. I paid $45 for him at a local toy show and he's now the centerpiece for my zilla collection. I'm really enjoying this figure.

Just came across preorders for this bad boy. I love that head sculpt and the paint on the head, spines, and tail, but the rest really leaves a lot to be desired being mostly all black. Added some much needed paint on the ShinGozilla's tail to make it look more like bone and also went in and dry brushed some matte charcoal grey on it to make the glossy red pop. painted in the teeth to match the tail's bone paint I did. Also painted the eyes to make it look more like it did in the movie. After all that went over with matte finish to seal the paint. I think I like it more now.

I used Americana paint Natural Buff. It's cheap paint. As for the eye this is the best one I have of it.
The blacks of the eyes were forward so I had to make them look more it appears in the movie. Used a tiny pen for it.

My toys r us is full of Shins that don't look like they'll sell anytime soon, I guess because the filthy gaijin didn't really like the movie. How long before they go on clearance you all think?

I know a bunch of you just want to shitpost and stay in the company wars, but I want to believe at least a few are true Godzilla fans.

Then I just want to know, what you feel when you see this pic?

I truly feel goosebumps, I become in that child which grew watching all those movies, the campy of Showa, the drama of Heisei, the action of Millenium.

I can see the performance in each one of them and really really want to watch the three (and Mizuho Yoshida too) in a movie, I know that is impossible but I dream with it.

I'm guessing there's no way Biollante doesn't get a new color release(I'm calling a night version) within the next year. The other two large releases, ghidorah and Destroyah, got their rerelease. It might be in 2018, but it'll happen.

My wishful thinking is all these rereleases are Phase 1 to relaunching the SHMA line; making OOP figures easy to acquire for new fans that will be buying figures based on the upcoming movies.

Shin Godzilla really showed that a good amount of the "fans" don't give a shit about what the movie is about, purely what monsters are in it.

I mean, the idea was always there, with people slamming Mothra for being a "bug" or Biollante because a flower makes a lame enemy. Or Monster Zero being called a "remake" of the previous film just because of the monster choices. Never really clicked though until this past year.

I admit, for the longest times I glazed through the human scenes of Godzilla movies. That's definitely why Heisei has such appeal to a lot of fans, the monster scenes are more polished(on the surface. From a technical standpoint, you can see things like Ghidorah's wings being less active, or Mothra in general being less dynamic). The human stuff thats there is also more dyrectly godzilla related on average, and the Miki subplot appeals to those who like continuity. It wasn't until I got older, and I was more open to watching the whole films through while paying attention to the whole movie, not just the monster parts, that I began appreciating the human elements more.

Invasion of astro Monster was always one of my favorites as a kid, but mainly just because of the whole idea of godzilla in space. Now I still like it, but mainly due to Glenn and Fuji's companionship and the general pulpiness of it. Really its barely a Godzilla movie, its more of a general Toho sci-fi movie and the monsters are more like guest stars.

I love Sea Monster, I think it's one of the most entertaining films in the series.

Not even in an unironic way, the acting is fantastic and the cast is one of SciFi Toho's most dynamic. The humor's on point too, and the terrorist-centric plot hasn't been done in such a way before. (unless you consider alien races "terrorist")

Since many people have lost hope in the MonsterArts line I really hope a different company gets the rights to make better figures. Personally I want a company to make the figures to be 8 inch scale for standard. Because in my autism I sometimes pose my Godzillas with domestic 6 inch scale figures and they are dwarfed by almost everything. If I was pretending they were guys in suits they'd still be 7 feet tall. And also a bigger scale means more and better detail.

While Skull Island was by no means a perfect movie it had enough charm and action to not be dull. It was leaps and bound Better than Godzilla 2014 too.

I thought Pacific Rim was kinda not that good when it came out, but honestly, that was the kaiju fanboy in me talking. In retrospect I think it's a rather memorable film that actually subverted typical hollywood tropes you would see at the time (one of the major examples was a comfy, platonic m-f relationship between the two main characters, rather than forcing a romance. That hug at the end is a really powerful moment)

Everything about the sequel looks bad though, from the Jaeger designs to the meme casting. I'm convinced that without Del Toro at the helm, any heart Pacific Rim once had will be lost. I didn't care for the Kaiju direction in original Pacific Rim, so I can only imagine the sequel will be 10x worst.

So how would you all rank the more recent kaiju films? Or the recent kaiju designs?

PR had some great much designs, but most of the kaiju were just decent to serviceable with only a couple of real standouts. I'm preferred the design of Kong in Peter Jackson's film, but I guess this one is more apt for kaiju fightan.

25cm Anguirus is amazing, it's really charming and the best sculpt you can get off the character, outside of a few select resin kits. The 30cm version of Anguirus is just okay, it's really lacking a certain flavor.

Hedorah's 25cm sculpt is nice but it's of a very specific version, and the 30cm is done better in other lines. Hedorah in general you can do better outside of X-Plus, the Marmit kit lines for instance have a very nice Hedorah.

I'd be going for the 30cm of both, deff gonna look into marmit hedorah now though. Any idea of complaints with the 30cm anguirus length? I get the flavorless complaint but idk, find it very appealing. Chalk it up to bad taste haha.

If you like a more "straight face" monster pose, the 30cm is fine, it just looks kind of... Tranquilized, when compared to the 25cm. The latter just pops out more in certain areas of the mouth (specifically the detailed gums) and body, it looks very "battle ready," while also being notably cheaper at the time. (As of now who knows, I haven't kept up with prices)

The Marmit build-up kits are great and have an actually decent, unique selection of monsters to choose from. There's also a build-up kit of Anguirus as well that looks nice, with a decent following.
