But that's actually sacrificing articulation
Its a model kit, who gives a shit?

When it's redundant. Professor X here had a thigh swivel on top of a swivel at the hipjoint which was unnecessarily and broke up the otherwise nice sculpt of the legs considering the hips did the job of the cut to a tee.
It's like double jointing wrists or having a swivle at the forearm and hand, it doesn't need to be done.
>>6309146
well sheeeit.
>>6309123
>How much articulation is too much?
>>6310263
more like articulation just doesnt work with this sandbag of a character
>>6310200
I'd agree with this.
ToyBiz had an odd habit of adding thigh swivels to figures who already had thigh joints that allowed for rotation. The only other figure that did this that currently comes to mind is their Mad Jack figure but I know they did it with more figures than than just these two.
>>6310263
>>6310297
I fixed the most glaring issue with it in like a min in paint.
>get rid of wrist joint
>put swivel in center of arm
Looks good and there's no loss of function for the hands.
>>6310339
Yeah, except it'll just break the sculpt of the damn arm instead.
>>6309146

>>6310342

>>6310200
why would professor x need any articulation below the waste?
>>6310473
so you can accurately pose him whenever magneto flips him out of his chair and laughs as X now re enacts the life alert commercials.
>>6309123
>How much articulation is too much
When the figure actually becomes annoying to pose and play with because there's so much stuff moving all the time.
>>6310431
It's not a cylinder, it's going to break the sculpt regardless.

This kit is so old now and honestly the bicep gimmick looks like shit in action but for some reason this pic's been making the rounds online lately. I wonder if the dalong URL in the corner has caused any curious normies to stumble upon that particular treasure trove.
>>6309123
No such thing. I was going to say "Joints on bits that wouldn't actually move" but even then for some poses that can actually be a boon- look at Revo Spiderman, sure not all his joints are anatomically accurate but for a comic character know for stylized, extreme poses that's a good thing.
People whining about MUH SCUPT should just buy statueshit.

Individual finger articulation
>>6311147
This. Only works on big characters with huge hands.
I hate how they give all the lower price articulated Kamen Rider/Ultraman figures individual finger articulation, as if it lets them do anything pose wise. And it just makes them holding shit harder.

all of them are pretty hollow, they just covered up some hollowness with pieces like the sandwhich technique. nowadays due to plastic cost rising they like use a singel piece fore a limb instead of 2 or more to cover hollow spaces resulting in these openings making the figure look more hollow than older figures.
>>6310200
I thought it hilarious that the movie Professor X figures had leg articulation but they intentionally made the hips and knees loose as hell and they just ragdoll flopped around. His movie figures literally can't stand, it was fun to knock him out of the chair just to see how he landed.
>>6311644
>>6309146
>>6311644
What? That wasn't intentional.
That was just Toybiz's QC issues shining through.
Or just, the issues of the industry at the time shining through really.
>>6309146
I love you
>>6311842
No, every single Xavier movie figure had very loose hips and knees brand new. It was intentional not a QC issue. Not just typical Loose joints they were floppy as hell and none of them could stand.
>>6310297
A Nendoroid Pikachu would work well. If it had a magnetic body and separate head/arms/legs/etc like Kirby's nendo did, it would work pretty seamlessly.

ML series 6 Cable had extra thigh cuts, but they were right above his belt pouches, so they didn't screw up the sculpt too much...
>>6311304
What the hell is going on here?
>>6310784
not gonna lie, I was tempted, and it looks fine in review videos, but then I remembered that I don't really like Goku himself that much, and the rest of the figure looks like shit.
But if they did one for Vegeta? Man...
Revoltech figures are a bitch to pose with because of the articulation
>>6315380
Pretty sure you're just too dumb to pose them properly
>>6315380
Revoltechs are easy to pose because the joints lock instead of flopping under their own weight.
The only people I've ever seen complain about Revoltechs being hard to pose were people who also weren't good at posing normal joints.

>>6316198
Figures are solid
Model kits are holo
That was my impression anyway
>>6316578
If that's the case then his analogy is kinda meh, since many figures have hollow two piece torsos and crotches.
>>6309146
Which is good, because I can't even be trusted to place a sticker on properly.
>>6309146
If I'm not wrong action figures assembled by chinks in factory tend to use better/stronger plastic. Model kits or plamo ones will almost always use weaker polystyrene plastic which prone to breaking and stress. they also seem to use worse material for vital things like hands and joints, so in the end it's all fair and well, right?
Paying for the better material, efforts, and quality control. Besides better model kits like master grade gunpla's price is closer to or more than regular figma, SHF releases, and they still need to be assembled whcih could take hours.

>>6311644

>>6311842
It was intentional. They are all like this. Again I'm talking about the movie figures, not the Legends figure. I've already taken this one apart for a custom but they are all like this. Intentional rag doll legs on a paraplegic character. Absolute madmen I tell you.
In terms of posing figures, I'd say you only have too much articulation when it starts sacrificing the aesthetics. You can have a figure with like 80 POAs and make it do yoga poses, but it'll look like shit because it's a mess of swivels and ball joints.
For toys and stuff you'd intend to play with in general, There's too much articulation when you're unable to easily and quickly manipulate the joints. I suppose that's kind of a vague explanation, but for example if I'm holding some toy and I grab it by the hand to move the arm around, but I can't get it the way I want because the double jointed elbow is being finicky and there are like like four separate joints in the shoulders that just refuse to articulate in an intuitive manner, then I'd consider that to have too much articulation for what I want.
>>6309123
It's never enough.
>>6318139
Some of them look great.
>>6309146
>>6309123
I'm pretty sure the weird hovering cockpit joint on RD Drumlo is a great example of "too much articulation." It just makes the figure awkward for little to no benefit. Even if you move it the cockpit glass becomes misaligned.
>>6319671
>Revoltech Jehuty is better than Riobot Jehuty in terms of accuracy
Revo Jehuty is one of the best in the line in my opinion. Both versions represent their respective game iterations well and are pleasing to look at. I can't believe how Riobot botched the knee joint to add a pointless moving knee pad gimmick. The design from the game is literally a disc hinge with the knee permanently attached to the upper thigh. There was no reason to get fancy with THAT joint. Not to mention the Revo also has more detailed paint job on the floaty accessories which for whatever reason are lacking paint details on the Riobot.
>>6319887
>>Revoltech Jehuty is better than Riobot Jehuty in terms of accuracy
But both are shit compared to the perfect Koto model kit.
>>mfw we didn't get a singularly perfect Jehuty figure during the whole ZOE HD trend
>>6309123
>How much articulation is too much?
Toe joints. Literally who gives a fuck.
Maybe on large robot figures, but 9/10 times I find them useless on little figures like Figuarts except for setting up one of those tippy-toe poses just to show that it can balance.
>>6321678
if setting up a running pose, the bending toes are essential for accurate looking running. Also the majority of spiderman style poses would need them too.
>>6321678
running, crouching, sitting without being flat footed. toe joints are actually pretty damn useful for (good) posing.
>>6311193
No? They're more like a puzzle, an action figure, and a vehicle toy (second action figure if you're looking at any beast former) all in one. Not sure where you get model kit from.
>>6311305
Plastic prices have actually gone down from when Hasbro first started the hike. They just kept up with the same model anyway because people were still buying it, cut plastic quantity even more, and then raised the price again since. For what they charge, we should at least be getting 2007-2010 quality TFs. Instead we get poor quality, thinner plastic and less complex engineering. for 50+% the cost. It's kinda bullshit.
