Welcome to the DC General.
Archive of last thread: >>>6245867

I'm not too up on news, so we'll just start from here.

Mezco ONE:12 Captain Marvel/Shazam has hit. It's a great figure with some YMMV problems.
Of note: sticky joints, lightning bolt insignia is akin to an iron-on patch and mine was peeling from the moment I opened the box.

Once the joints are broken in, this thing poses like a dream. I've read a few complaints of the ankle system that Mezco use, and while it is a bit more limited than other ankle systems, it could be so much worse.

The cape wire takes a bit to get used to since it's a bit thin. Putting a hard kink in it feels like it might snap the wire.

Of note with the body suit is that the belt is glued together at the point that the sash drops. It's slightly adjustable up and down, but it also feels that it may be glued to the bodysuit on that same side.

The accessories are nice enough but this figure would really sing with the addition of a Tamashii Nations Thunder kit. Mr. Mind's antennae are very thin, and feel like they could snap if mishandled. the alt heads are also very nice, but that smile brightens my shelf too much to change the head.

Time to find out if Mezco customer service is worth a damn.
>>
>>6306927
I think I lost one of the sticks when moving. That or it's packed somewhere.
>>
>>6307827
This is the only of the Mezco figures I was interested in.

Do you feel like you got what you paid for?
>>
>>6308204
For $55, this would have been great. But for $75 plus $12 shipping, I'm torn. It's absolutely gorgeous except for that emblem. But judging by >>6307873, the ragged, peeling emblem isn't on every single figure, so maybe you'll have better luck.

Captain Marvel is also the only ONE:12 I intended to buy as soon as they previewed it, but I'm heavily considering Space Ghost based on this. There's not a lot that can go wrong with that figure--the suit is a giant onesie, there's no decals, paint, or logos stuck right down on it outside of the clearly plastic Space Ghost logo, and it comes with a ton of effects pieces. The only thing I could see going wrong would be a snapped joint.
>>
>>6308166

Their QC is shit bro, I only have two, but I had to get replacements for both, and even the replacements have minor issues.
>>
>>6307827
First thing I'm gonna do when I get mine is replace that gold rope on the cape with a gold rope chain from a nechlace. I might wind up bolting the cape to his costume. The floating cape is the only gripe I have with him.
>>
>>6308442
It's accurate to the character. Captain Marvel's cape isn't supposed to be attached to his costume, he just wears it with a rope around his neck.
>>
>>6308442
If you can maneuver the hood flap and position the internal wires just right, it actually looks pretty good. And his cape is supposed to be loose, just not puffy (which is why you really have to smash around the collar).

>>6308437
So you're saying I shouldn't open a support ticket with Mezco, and should just be happy that this issue is something that I can potentially just fix with some Stitch Witchery?
>>
>>6308445
It's accurate that the cape isn't attached, not accurate that it looks like it is floating in 90% of poses because the cape is too stiff, as is the problem with the figure.
>>
>>6308447

It's kindof a gamble. My last return was to bbts and they replaced it with one that had more or less the same problem. Don't expect customer service to do it a second time either, they will just say "oh we looked around and apparently this is a common factory variance, sorry".

Truly one of the joys of owning "mini hot toys".

What do you guys think of the DCC Arrow/Flash Two-Pack?
Being wanting the white logo version of the TV serie's Flash for a while now and i don't mind having another Arrow.
Alternatively, do you guys know of any TV series Arrow that can actually pull the bow like a real archer would? From the articulation on the pic i can see this one won't be able to do it much better than my second season one.

I wanted that pack pretty badly too until I saw it in person, the Barry head is just so damn bad, as was the paint on Ollie's beard. Still want it, but not for the 50 or so the book store wanted for it.

As for Ollie, the original/S2 version can kinda do that, I've got him posed with the arrow in his hand with it and the bow relaxed but I've been able to get him to pull the string back a few times.

I wouldn't be surprised if they mean they are redoing the Rebirth figures and making them more 1/12 scale with articulation tweaks.

Is anyone else here worried about the future of DCC. Seems they are cancelling everything that they were supposed to release, they cancelled DC Films, Icons, and might soon cancel the animated line as it seems they are putting desirable characters in multi packs just to get hem out. I'm afraid DCC is going away.
>>
>>6324597
They aren't canceling "everything" just a lot of the DC Icons stuff. The problems with that line were too numerous. First there was the scale which people hated despite it being in a true 1/12 scale because it doesn't match up with other domestic 1/12 scale lines. Then there was the piss poor articulation that was super disappointing given how many joints were on these things. Heads couldn't look up/down, hips were useless without swivels, ankle rockers were minimal and the torso articulation was a complete joke. Between a diaphragm joint AND a torso crunch you had almost no range.

The DC Designer series is going strong and the recent "Bombshells" releases are impressing people. It's in the scale people prefer and has way more range than Icons in every single way. There is also the less articulated Designer stuff based on specific artist representations which is also doing well. Honestly I am glad Icons is dead. I was initially excited but the actual figures were fucking awful. After playing with the DC Designer Bombshells I can never go back to Icons tier articulation.

I imagine they will re-launch the line under some new name and take all the improvements they made with Bombshells and put them into the nu-Icons.
>>
>>6323481
I emailed BBTS about it, and yes, according to them, it's cancelled.

>>
>>6324981
>the next wave of bombshells looks like garbage though
I don't object to the character choices so much as the way they rendered them in figure form. Hawkgirl looks like a fucking granny who smelled a fart, Mera ended up with a very similar face and looks like Peggy Bundy. Katana looks cute enough but Batgirl is just mediocre.

It's definitely a disappointment when almost all of wave 1 were pretty/cute. There is no canon art work related reason they should be looking this way either. In the comic none of them are ugly so not sure what the fuck they are doing with wave 2.

Why support Mattel's shit?

They're awful and their toys are pretty disappointing from prototype to production.

Also, Clayface from the B:TAS line is superior to Mattel's BAF. More alt arms/hands, alt head, and a better design too. Because of its bulk, it can actually fit in with other styles too, not just Timm's. Not to mention cheaper and easier to buy.
>>
>>6326721
Likely because, while mostly shit, it's just about the only DC stuff that's readily available at a decent price for most. Doesn't help that most DC Collectibles are getting cancelled left and right.

I don't get this argument at all.

I would rather not waste my money on mediocrity or just plain bad toys.

Just look at that Batwoman. It doesn't even have double jointed elbows (yet DCC's Clayface does) and the colors will undoubtedly look like an unpainted super glossy model quality just like the rest of their toys.
I actually skipped on some of Mattel's toys that they did right, except for that cheap high gloss look.

It's better to wait for DCC to release something good/great (like that Clayface) or hope Mezco gets around to making one.
>>
>>6326692
I think there is another wave coming first
>>
>>6326764
>It's better to wait for DCC to release something good/great
That's the problem, lately at least, they're axing too much and anything they don't is only at like, specialty shops and comic book stores that often overcharge for them (at least, my LCS tends to). Amazon/online shopping is possible, but I'm sure enough people don't care to do it that way for one reason or another.

Don't get me wrong, I don't buy that much Mattel if any, and fully agree that they're pretty bad aside from the occasional decent release, but for me, when they're the only chance I have of getting something of a character I like enough at a decent price, I'll go for it if I have the cash/care enough to grab it. I wish DCC would get into the bigger chain stores, I'm still not sure why they're not.

> I wish DCC would get into the bigger chain stores, I'm still not sure why they're not.
Barnes and Noble carries their stuff.
And nothing wrong with online, since they have good QC, so you won't end up with some shoddy looking ML or Playmates figure from doing a blind buy.
That's pretty much your only option if you don't like overpaying at a comic shop. They can't do mass market because they only make collector toys for the direct market. Hence: DC Direct.
Mattel has the license for mass market toys and that prevents DCC from selling to TRUs and Walmarts.

>when they're the only chance I have of getting something of a character I like enough at a decent price, I'll go for it
Except that Batwoman only has single jointed elbows and will ahve the Mattel trademark of shiny glossy plastic. IT makes everything look terrible. Despite being the smaller company, Hasbro actually does a much better job at action figures in every way, even though Hasbro trying to cut the budgets in every way.

Saying you have no option but to buy Superman cosplaying as Blue Beetle and Superman cosplaying as Booster Gold because DCC canceled the Icons 2 pack is pretty crazy.

Also, is it really cancelled? Because almost ever store is still offering to preorder it for its June release.

I'm not that guy so I don't really care about the Batwoman, and B&N and Gamestop is about as far as DCC gets in terms of direct retail stores, from what I can tell. Sucks about the licensing, as I feel like DCC would only grow if they could be on the shelves where most people would see them.

>Saying you have no option but to buy Superman cosplaying as Blue Beetle and Superman cosplaying as Booster Gold because DCC canceled the Icons 2 pack is pretty crazy.
It mostly comes down to, for me at least, which characters I like the most and if any other version exists. If there is one, I go with that be it DCC or Mezco or whatever, but if there's not and they're the only possible option, then I take what I can get if I like the character that much. I also, depending on the character, like to get as much merch of them as I can (Reverse Flash, for example). There's also versions of characters who have little to no chance of getting DCCs or much of anything else (some Elseworld guys, some CWverse stuff, some movie things, etc.).

>Also, is it really cancelled?
As far as I know, yes, as is a lot of what they solicited in the last year or so. I think Static is one of the few things still coming, but then, it's somewhat hard to keep up with this stuff, so he might be gone too.
>>
>>6327150
>As far as I know, yes, as is a lot of what they solicited in the last year or so
So no one knows?

I've seen stores like Amazon take preorders off when things got cancelled or substantially delayed, so to see all those canned sets still being offered makes me question if they are really cancelled.
Stores like BBTS, which i would assume would be more knowledgable about toys being cancelled, still has them up and is selling out of preorders. And those sell outs is really making me want to just put up my preorder over on Amazon or Barnes and Noble just in case its really limited... but i really don't like preordering shit because i dont like encouraging bad business tactics.

Are the two mafex BVS batmen at about the same level? I don't really have a preference between regular or armored, I'm just weary of QC problems.

Completely other anon here:

Can I get opinions on Mafex TDK Cateoman and Batpod? Found a handful of Catwoman digs for $25 each, and Batpod for $60. Also, opinions on the Batman TV Series Batcave and Batmobile from Mattel? Not sure if $25 and $40 are good prices for these things.

They're both about the same level but I like my Mezco Batman more than my Mafex Batman for the normal suit. The Mafex armored suit is probably the best version of it. Neither of mine had QC issues.

Right now, for me at least, I'm looking forward to the Rebirth Superman Multiverse figure.
The New 52 figure from Mattel and the Icons Rebirth Supes are both fine toys, but the Icons is a little too small for my taste, while the New 52 version has a bit of a wonky face. Mattel's version of Rebirth Superman looks pretty good so far.
If you want to go with something a bit more classic, the original DCUC Wave 17(?) Superman is just fine on his own, and is pretty easy and cheap to come by. Usually goes for around $15-30 on eBay.

I guess it all comes down to what scale you'd want him in. 4"-6" Superman figures are pretty easy to come by.

They made no improvements.

They needed to get these in big box stores.

Newer figures could move their heads better and they had drop down hips. And their sculpts, articulation, and paint jobs were always better than MLs.

They can't get product out in anything close to a timely manner, either.

Hasbro gets out more marvel legends in two to three months than we got icons figures in a year.

There's clearly some sort of issue going on with their production that things were constantly delayed/up in the air.

>>
>>6329623
Yes then?

>>6329619
Hasbro produces more toys than NECA, Diamond, DCC, and Kaiyodo combined.
none of these companies are producing mass market toys. Like Diamond, DCC only sells to comic book shops and the like, so they're actually limited in how many toys they can release per month.

>>6329610
I guess its retailers faults too.
There was one guy here who said he owns a shop and didn't even know what Icons was supposed to be. He thought Icons was a replacement for DCC's McStatues lines and thought because some unrelated line like pic doesn't sell, that Icons wouldn't either.

There was obvious demand for the Icons line, considering how that Demon was actually sold out for preorders on BBTS and pretty high on Amazon still despite being only a preorder.
>>
>>6329646
>There was obvious demand for the Icons line
This is what I don't get. Everywhere I look, people enjoy the Icons line for the most part aside from a few faults, and are hyped for just about any new release, but everything keeps getting canned. Are the figures that expensive to make that sold out preorders aren't enough to cover it?
>>
File: demon m.jpg (87KB, 620x479px) Image search: [Google]
demon m.jpg
87KB, 620x479px
>>6329651
Things are usually only canned because of licensing issues and retailer demand.

DCC had factory issues or something, because certain things kept on getting delayed, which pissed off retailers and these delays also meant that prices increased from what they were originally solicited at. So Static from the Icons line was originally supposed to come out in like wave 3 for $20 or whatever, but instead he came out almost 2 years later and would be obviously priced like all current toys.

So retailers were wary of ordering popular characters like Catwoman and Demon for this and other reasons, so DCC had to cancel them because there wasn't enough retailer demand.

DCC should run a kickstarter and bypass ignorant retailers like that guy who posts here.
>>
>>6329646
Icons was literally supposed to be DCs swing at a marvel legends style line.

They had a successful model to follow and they failed to do so in every way.

The fact that they couldn't get any real volume of figures rolling out was evident of their management failures with the line. Something hasbro does not have a problem with.

>I guess its retailers faults too.
There was one guy here who said he owns a shop and didn't even know what Icons was supposed to be.

That sounds like DCC's fault, not the retailer, if they can't even get the word out to the people they expect to help them get the line going.
>>
>>6329665
Every retailer I know that carried DCI has a bunch of them just sitting on shelves. They made a lot of pegwarmers and demand isn't even high enough to clear out big name figures like joker.

It's also hard to get people pumped for a line when it could be half a year between waves and figures get delayed for a year or more.
>>
All the talk about Icons has me curious: who do DCC think their consumers are? I walk into the two big LCS's in my area and they are both jam-packed with large quantities of every line that DCC produce, even going back to old stuff like the Homage and Wildstorm lines they put out years ago. I barely ever see any of it move, yet there are always new releases coming in of the same 5-10 characters indifferent designs.
>>
>>6329691
I have no idea.

My friend runs a store and his section for DC stuff is one of the only sections in the store that doesn't seem to move in any real speed or urgency. The only DC stuff he moves fast are the mezco figures now, some BTAS stuff, and only a few of the icons figures, like deathstroke or harley. Everything else just sits.

He has a display case of used DC figures and it doesn't move for crap.

He wound up just mounting the marvel figures on the wall behind him because they sell better than the DC figures by about thirty to one.

>The fact that they couldn't get any real volume of figures rolling out was evident of their management failures with the line.
Wat?
Have you seen their most popular lines like the Arkham series?
There were like 15 figures released in total for each game.
They're not imitating Hasbro's model at all, because they can't. They're limited by how many toys they can release at one time (1-4) and those slow releases mean they'll never finish a series like Hasbro does before the next game comes out.
Direct market shops can't keep up the time table Hasbro puts out. Only big box stores like Walmarts can.

>That sounds like DCC's fault, not the retailer, if they can't even get the word out to the people they expect to help them get the line going.
They put out a lot of material, explaining the differences between their toys, put out newsletters, and have hype shit up at conventions to consumers and retailers for years now.
There's no excuse for retailers not to know, especially one that comes to fucking /toy/

>>6329675
I really can't speak about how sales are like in your area, but Icons here and at conventions seem to sell well, in that they don't have a lot of stock. Either it's because they didn't bother to carry the line or they sell out. My local comic book chain did sell out of mostly everything.
Still, the fact remains that figures like Demon were in demand and it's a huge let down that retailers won't order enough to get figures like that released.
>>
>>6329717
>Have you seen their most popular lines like the Arkham series?

I've been blatanty talking about the icons line. How could you get confused about that?
>>
>>6329717
>I really can't speak about how sales are like in your area,
My area is in the range of frank n sons and their scalpers, so if anything were actually desirable it would be snatched up, either by customers or them.

The stuff doesn't move there, either.
>>
>>6329719
------>point------>

(yourhead)

Since that point would have gone through your head and not hit anything vital, I'll explain it to you:
Even DCC's most popular lines can't sell the volume Hasbro does and they have never aimed to.
Hasbro sells hundreds of thousands to millions of units of the ML/BS/TF lines every quarter. DCC sells tens of thousands. HUGE HUGE difference.

So if DCC can only sell about 1-4 figures per wave and usually takes about half a year to release the next wave, and this is routine, they'll never make as many figures/characters like you believe they should.
>>
>>6329732
It's not even about selling sheer volume, they literally cannot keep a solid release schedule with the icons line which was the entire point that went over YOUR head.

The line saw constant delays from anywhere to half a year to a full year plus. This was NOT intentional. Their original schedule saw waves coming quarterly until they started to have problems and pulled last minute delays.

You cannot keep a line like that going releasing waves 7 months apart from each other.

It shows, too, since the line is practically dead.
>>
>>6329743
so because waves were being delayed, that's okay not to order toys that are in demand?

I could understand if people didn't know something was being released anymore and forgetting about it, but when you have stores offering preorders and still getting sales to the point of selling out.... where's the sense in that?
>>
>>6328166

I haven't bought a Mattel figure in years and have wanted a pair of Hawkman wings to work with for some time, so I picked this up today. Boy, the new arm articulation is bad. Only about 25 degrees of range at the elbows, nasty cut on the biceps, ankle pivot is gone (not that there was ever much anyway), and the head only swivels. Even the quality of plastics in use on the various items feels bad. At least the paint and sculpt are pretty good. This makes me leery of the upcoming figures I wanted, like Reaper.

>Come on bro. On the very slight chance you yourself are not trolling--Batgirl looks awkward as shit, and neither figure is pushing the boundaries of articulation
See, you're just ignorant and are just talking shit about toys you don't own, judging everything on a few pic.

Let me go into detail on how DCC is better.
Notice the ankle articulation on that Superoir Spider-Man you posted? Batgirl has the same articulation as him, yet has an ankle swivel hidden in the boots too. So the feet don't always have to be splayed out just to get them at an angle. It makes for more stable posing and looks more natural too.
SpiderOck Has a swivel waist and a hinged abs. That's Mattel DCUC quality right there. Whereas Batgirl has a lower ab hinge AND barbel (2 ball joints) on the upper abs. Which means she has greater range of motion for her torso and can actually lean to one side, unlike any current Hasbro Spider-Man.
Ock may have superior hips with the outward swivels. Whereas Batgirl is engineered like a Figuarts: pulldown hips. Not sure why weeabs always praised this shit, given that any increased motion from pulling them down is set back by the swivel that is found inside the joint is pretty limited.
Another nice thing about Hasbro's Spider-Mans is that they have the extra articulation in the shoulders, but not all of Hasbro's MLs have that, huh?

So all tallied up, Batgirl and the rest of the DCC figures are all better articulated than the majority of every single Hasbro wave up to this point.
Considering the DCC creates more unique bodies, offers more paint apps, and better QC, it's everything that any ML fans wish they could have for their Marvel figures. I know I do and constantly hope Diamond would step their game up to do. Only Mezco is able to provide quality products for Marvel, but they're hampered by their license.

> Darkseid is just standing there with his legs slightly spread and his arms raised
It's a giant heavy figure. They're always limited.

What's the best Batman figure to go with my DC Icons Death in the family Joker?
>>

I don't really care about Darkseid, but this headsculpt is so fucking good and the glowing eyes look amazing. It seems dumb to drop probably $200 on a figure just for that reason though.

"let the universe howl in pain for i have returned"

>>
>>6341023
It's not going to be $200.
He's about 4 inches taller than the rest of the figures, so it's not going to double in price, given how other figures have had light up features as well without costing that much and probably won't be an exclusive to drive up the cost.

>>
>>6341141
This fedorian look is not a good one for the Joker. Yes, I know that's not actually a fedora OR a trilby, but it still brings those associations to mind. I feel like he's going to tip his hat at me and whiteknight the nearest woman. I don't really care for his outfit either. The grey pinstripe pants don't work, would have looked far better in matching purple. The neon green lines on his vest are hideous.

Not sure what these robot arms are about but they bring to mind the ridiculous old 90s BTAS figures. Which is a good thing for me actually, but these arm things are just so bland looking.

>>6341151
I AM a big fan of multiple heads, especially when they're wildly different. I feel like most of these are misses for me though. ESPECIALLY bishonen Joker. The "normal" headsculpt looks pretty good though. I like the harlequin one as well, but feel like it won't look good on this body.

This is conceptually really cool, I wish I didn't hate the scale and the joints and the price.

And to some degree, the sculpts. At first I was wowed by PAK cause the sculpts are so intricate, but after a while I just got sick of it. Everything is so busy and packed with detail that it's a visual clusterfuck. Your eyes have nowhere to rest so they go everywhere at once.

>>
>>6341153
Granted he still had his white face in it, but I'm going to guess it's a reference to Geoff John's Kingdom Come sequel in JSA.

Geoff's Kingdon Come storyline had a side trip to a version of Earth 2 that was spawned after Infinite Crisis, where Power Girl reunited with Post IC Earth 2 Huntress to hunt down the Joker. Post IC Earth 2 Joker disfigured Huntress's boyfriend for the evilulz and was shown to be in a wheelchair and neck brace/breathing mask
>>
>>6341153
Not entirely sure, though the wheelchair and the place for an IV makes me think of early-game Arkham City stuff. Definitely not that, though, as he wasn't super aged or anything.

Is there a good Doctor Fate figure anyone would recommend? I've seen several but the articulation on them isn't that great and they're usually expensive.

One he mentioned, stability, with my joker, who WILL lean forward or back on his loose ankles unless I add extra support.

Another, my dark knight returns batman had brown stains on his cape out of the box.

Shazam has a blog of glue covering half of the back of his left fist.

I've held onto my Nazi Kroenen for a while now and over time his coat degraded to the point where I ended up using a plastic coat instead. Mind you he was in a dynamic pose throughout all those years but it does make me worried that I'd have to treat the Mezco figures rather delicately.

I'd be worried about that on any of the figures that have pleather or have the application/screen printing or whatever the fuck is stuck to Captain America's shirt. But figures like Flash or Space Ghost? Should be fine. Spider-man could be a nightmare long-term.

One coming soon from Multiverse
It's pretty much a re-branded DCUC, so the poseability isn't amazing, but it looks alright. A better scale than the DCC Icons Batman because it fits in with most ML figs and other 6 inch lines, but the paint and decal is likely to not be fantastic - but for a $15-25 figure, it looks fine. Unsure when it's coming out, but most sites are saying they ship July.

This Cyborg looks AWFUL. What the fuck Mattel? How do you go from the beauty that was the DCUC Cyborg to this bullshit in a decade. I wanted to get The Flash (who looks good) and Cyborg to complete the league but Jesus that's an ugly action figure.

I don't think anyone expected anything good to come from this design, but fucking hell.
>>6365346
How has the Cavill likeness gotten worse since MoS?

>Mezco should make a Batman Beyond Batman
I'd hate to see what retarded liberties they'd take with the suit. Pass
>>
>>6365343
Give him some kind of dumb looking visor and this suit literally looks like a Variant Play Arts Kai design

>This Cyborg looks AWFUL.

In Mattel's defense, he looks like shit in the trailer too.
>>
>>6365554
It's a shit design, yes. This isn't even a good adaptation of the design into figure form though. The proportions are all off, and the likeness is nonexistent.
>>
>>6365472
Mezco seems to have no problems licensing specific designs from everyone but Marvel, so there is no doubt it would look great.

>>6365332
Oh my. Mattel making their trash toys from trash designs, for double the trashiness.
Why the fuck do they keep on using those hips? It's not like they even care to make quality toys, so why use those to keep the sculpt as intact as possible?
>>
>>6364937
So when are they going to release just the Terry figure?
>>
>>6365705
probably never, so you should ebay it if you can only afford him as a single.
>>
>>6347329
DC movies are great and their designs have lent themselves really well to toys so far.

Stay mad though pleb.

LOL

All their lines are bombing or doing really mediocre sales. They barely have a retail presence as it is and its' almost only in the toddler section.

Just shows that even kids don't care for the designs and kids love ugly stupid shit.
>>
>>6364870
Hmm that's not too bad. While it does look like a re-branded DCUC figure, it looks like Capullo's art at the very least.
>>
>>6365337
Wow this is fucking terrible

Anything Figma or Figuarts? Never had a Mafex so dunno their quality.
>>
>>6369306
neither of those companies made one

mafex is your only choice right now
>>
>>6364874
Fucking finally I've been waiting years to get a figure of Terry.
>>
Does anyone have the SHF deadshot? I thought about grabbing him because he looks good but Bandai pulled a hasbro and sculpted most of his guns, including the pistol he used in the movie, into the holster. Probably grab the mafex just because of that.
