For those unfamiliar, "Plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model." If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.

Can I get some opinions on inner frames?

She's starting to shape up. Long way to go yet, though. I replaced the ankle joints so now she can actually stand on her own. Don't know what Bandai was thinking making her ankles entirely out of polycaps.

A combination of metallic silver and a thin layer of light gun metal.

I doubt Bandai was actually thinking when they designed the kit

Is panel lining metallic paint a good idea? Think I'd have to gloss coat it, does that kill the finish?

Well, the paint I have is called light gun metal. I didn't make it by mixing, but I think adding some chrome/metallic silver to gun metal paint should herald the same result.

Anon, most likely it will be god damm awful just out the box, you will need to put a lot of effort to make this thing any good.

Don't worry anon, all of the changes i made were perfectly non permanent. The zaku and zudah are both whole and sitting in the box i put all my zakus and similar monoeyes like gyan or hi-mock.

Speaking of, what are the MG kits for the hi-mock, guncannon, gyan, and that odd looking blue version of the original gundam like? I love the shades of pale grey blue but that particular kit looks a bit trash quality, or maybe just old. There's also a similar kit which i think is the same mould but in red and with a few additional weapons. I think they both must use the first MG version of the gundam as a base.

Just finished my build with this bad boy. I like him, but have two issues

>inb4 ham hands
So my first problem is the guns. I can't for the life of me get then to fit so he can hold then in his hands. In the process, I broke the gun grip of the shotgun (liquid super glue and paint fixed it) but it just didn't want to work. Did anyone else have this problem with their Sazabi Kai?

Second, I'm not familiar with large "sticker sheets. I was going to add the decals but they don't come off. I tried exacto knifing one off, but it just pulled the paper under it with it. Am I retarded? What am I doing wrong. This is only My second MG. I normally do HGs

Honestly, I think it was very poorly designed. The handle clips onto a peg, and one side of the clip is INCREDIBLY thin. It's practically begging to stress and snap. For a kit with such ingenious engineering, I'm really not sure what they were thinking here.

This is my first gunpla and my first painting attempt. I was a bit rough for my first time with building but I learned a lot by my mistakes.
I don't have a gundam marker and I used the thinnest marker I had (not sufficently thin for paneling the inner parts of the feet and shoulder). I used acrylics and I'd like to listen to your hints. Obviously I hand painted it, even the priming part, and there are some spots that are not so clean (a bit of white can be seen on the edge of the arm's armor). I used this kit cause I don't care if I ruin it and that's why I was lazy doing some parts.
Next I'd like to build Barbatos Lupus 1/100 and also painting it with a rusty/weathered look. What should I know to improve? How thin is the gundam marker? What do you recommend between the "waterish" and the regular one?
Thanks a lot guys.
I also want to say that it was this board and this general in particoular that led me to plamos. I was curious about this board and by stumbling on these threads I discovered a new creative hobby, so thank you all!
>>
>>6276260
you definitely need to THIN YOUR PAINTS
>I used the thinnest marker I had (not sufficently thin for paneling the inner parts of the feet and shoulder)
wait like you used just any old marker for your panel lining? Do you know what makes a gundam marker so special and different from normal markers? It's paint, not regular marker ink. Now granted for panel lining you can still just use pen ink, pencils, etc, but my experience with different markers is they don't do well for panel lining.
> painting it with a rusty/weathered look. What should I know to improve
Do not even attempt weathered yet. Not til you can get a smooth thin and good looking coat of paint. Try practising on spoons first.

You say acrylics but I must now ask, WHAT brand of acrylics? Also you should not hand brush primer, get a spray can for that.
>>
>>6276317
They're not "branded", or at least not a famous one. My mother used them to paint her miniatures and room boxes.
I thinned the paint trying both denaturated alcohol and water. I painted more than a layer. Two for white primer, two for that brown shade. For frame parts I used black and a thin layer of silver.
I don't know what the ideal consistency of the paint should be. Online tutorials show that thinned acrylics need just one layer after priming, but it is clearly not the case.

To be clear, Gyan had fans for years, but wasn't super popular or anything. But when BF aired one of the gag characters was a super Gyan fanboy who only uses Gyans, resulting in an explosion of popularity and a bunch of artists making references to other series with the robot/monster edited to be gyan-like.

Italy. I cannot get it for less than 40€ + shipment.

>>6277357

How bad are customs for you?

For me (Sweden) it's 25% of cost of item and shipping and another ~10 euros if I use rsal as a "handling fee". So using rsal ends up being almost the same price as EMS... at least I don't have to wait forever for my kits.
>>
>>6277368
Stick to pizza
>>
>>6277401
We get charged 22% of the total cost of both item and shipment (unless they're under 22€) plus 5,5€ for custom service. Supplementar taxes apply for costs over 150€.
I don't understand why are you saying EMS would cost you the same as SAL btw, how much it is for Eu shipment for a single kit?

>>6277404
Trust me, I do. I even build mine some times. Panel lining is a bit tricky with our authentic and fresh mozzarella, but still worth the time
>>
>>6277424
>he uses fresh mozzarella for lining

Fool, you're supposed to use it as a panel wash. It melts for a reason.
>>
>>6277424

Let's say that I buy a bunch of kits, which can fit either into 3 different RSAL packages or I can fit it all in a single order with EMS.

EMS gets slightly cheaper the more weight you add. When the RSAL orders get hit by an additional 30 euros that the EMS does not get hit by (because it is a handling fee that appearantly is included in the cost of EMS but not RSAL), the difference between the two shipping options is very small for me.

I prefer getting one big package quickly instead of waiting for three small packages for 3 to god knows how many weeks when I have to pay basically the same amount anyway.
>>
>>6277431
Makes perfect sense. Personally I can't afford a huge order in one time so I'm stuck with SAL.
Still, Barbatos Lupus 1/100 is about 45 euros for me to get (with also a marker that I need). Is it a reasonable price? I don't think I can get it for cheaper locally.
Just to let you know, the local store sells the HG Astaroth for 30€. Even with a friendly discount to 25€ I can get it for 13€ and tax free from HLJ.
This is the reason I would go for 144, little worse but for a ridiculous price
>>
>>6277229
>If it doesn fit
That was never the problem. The problem was what if it is too small? which was the problem in the first place. Reincar's hand got this special peg that will be used to stuck the weapon AND the big size to grab its giant weapon, that why I'm so adamant about finding the same size.

Trimming Reincar's hand won't do and just make it look ugly. And it doesn't matter at all if you trimmed or mod a smaller hand, it's like you're asking me to make a new resin instead of buying new hands.

>>6277280
It does, but the size isn't the same.
>>
Alright, biting the bullet and getting an airbrush finally. The checklist for the airbrush is as follows, I believe:
Airbrush itself
proprietary Adaptor(I have a hose, but I don't know if the airbrush will take the generic adaptor I have)
Compressor(I have a heavy duty one already.)
Paint booth
Am I missing anything in this list before I go shopping? This isn't including the paints and primer, I have a shop nearby for those.
>>
>>6277513

Nah, I'd sorta disagree with that my dude. Unlike the original Barbatos, where the proportions were wildly different between the two kits, the difference between the 1/144 and 1/100 Lupus is staggeringly small. I mean, if you squinted at this you might not even notice it's two halves of different kits. Bandai did a really good job here matching proportions.
>>
>>6277775
I dont know anon, even though they clearly have similar proportions and the same silhouette. the little additional details really make the 1/100 look slightly better, looks sharper imo.

So a regular MG GM Sniper II was a pretty fun snap build!

Was wondering how unreasonable it would be to hope Bandai will release one of the GM Command counterparts this year as a regular retail MG kit. Or would possible kits be strictly P-Bandai releases like the GM Cannon or II?

Also another request to anons, if anyone has both the MG GM Sniper II and the 2.0 RX-78-2/GM kits built and around, can the foot off the Sniper II fit on a 2.0 GM's leg? Took a look on Dalong and the joint's very similar, so curious if can work as a simple swap; or if there's some slight modding needing to be done?

... Waiting on a possible(likely P-Bandai too) MG GM III, and just haven't gotten to like the more rounded/stubby foot design on the 2.0 RX-78-2/GMs.

Thanks for any help!

Do you ever used chalk pastels for weathering/shading? Do they work on bare plastic? I don't want to use topcoat
>>
>>6278251
They do work in general, yes.

They won't work very well on bare plastic, it's too smooth and there's not much to grab onto. You are advised to either lay down a matte topcoat first or lightly sand the affected areas with a very high grit sandpaper to give the plastic some "tooth."

You generally don't topcoat after using pastels, as it dulls the effect. But be warned that every time you touch the kit the pastels will rub off on your hands.
>>
>>6278251
>Do you ever used chalk pastels for weathering/shading?

Yes.

>Do they work on bare plastic?

No. Bare plastic is too smooth for them to grab onto.

>I don't want to use topcoat

If you want to use powders you'll have to topcoat to seal them in anyways as they rub off really easily.
>>
>>6278283
Couldnt you just apply more then? Sounds like a pain to have pastels rub off when you repose or dust your stuff
>>
>>6278341
Chalks and weathering powders are generally used by military modelers. Since there's really no posability they never cared for that being an issue. Most all of our stuff comes from them so we live with the downsides they do. There have been some solutions come about for Gunpla but not many in regards for chalks. Tamiya weathering powder is more like a cream or caked powder with some oil in it. Harder to remove but doesn't give quite the same effect. It'll still rub off, but not near as fast. Alternatively if you've got a. It of skill you can dry brush some paints to get the same effect, just build up over a few layers.
>>

Man, Bandai seems to have dropped the ball on the Gundam Vual kit. I was really looking forward to that kit too, really love the design, even when I don't care for whatever series it came from. Strange, considering how good the IBO kits have been.
>>
>>6278505
>Man, Bandai seems to have dropped the ball on the Gundam Vual kit.

>>
>>6278509
a kit with so few colors and they make one big part of the shield a sticker. the arm joint is somehow the only IBO kit to not be able to hold the weight of his oversized melee weapon. the slot on the holding hand is square... and too big for the round handle of the hammer/main weapon so it just slides up and down.

simple fixes sure... but such strangely lazy/bad(?) decisions for a line that's been really good bang for the buck, regardless what the opinion is about the series' designs or story.

So since we got three of them eventually through various lines, what do you think of the possible releases for the kit candidates graphic from a while back in pic-related? Saw it again after some considering possible kits for that 'GunPla Evolution Project' gimm- event, and thought they still fit. So was considering them this way:

Jegan - MG
Kshatriya - Re100(even with the MG Psycho Zaku, can't see a non-gundam MS this size getting a MG)
Ξ/Xi Gundam - MG(wanna say this will be MG 200 actually)
Rig Contio - HGUC
Leo - Re100(would like a MG more, but it's more practical in this line...)
Gaia Gundam - MG(though it might work better as a simpler Re100 for the transformation gimmick)

Reborns Gundam - Perfect Grade.
Understand this is crazy talk until we get more info about this 'GunPla Evo Project', but if they're gonna try and use the PG line(and try and prop up its reputation after 00 Raiser and Strike Freedom) in this gimmick event. Reborns while a villain unit seems to be a practical and refreshing choice, and might justify a 2.0(1.5?) reworked 00 Raiser PG as well; this 'new' 00 Raiser sometime before Reborns of course.
Again fun speculation until more info comes out, and surprise the plan was just PG 2.0s for the RX-78-2 and Char's Zaku-II; thought It might be fun to bring this up again.

>>6278917
Exposure to gundam kits was started with the PG line(Mk. II Titans) as a kid, and is still the favourite line for the sturdy construction and articulation(granted not as reliable with the last few...); plus the 'obsolete' label helps a lot nowadays with some of the classics like the Zaku-II, Mk. II, and Zeta being found hovering 6-8500 yen with the middleman's help.
>>
>>6278917
Build HG Origin kits. They're not fragile or fidgety at all. You can hold and handle the kits without it falling apart or getting out of pose. And this is how they're fitted straight out of the box, whereas some other HG kits I find myself needing to adjust joint tightness with Future Pledge. Not to mention the excellent details and pseudo-inner frame construction. Of course, this comes at a price, being slightly more expensive than other HG kits, but they're worth it if you like the suits offered in that line.
>>
>>6279447
Leo deserves a MG, especially when they can reuse a lot of the Tallgeese sculpt.

HG and RG for the scale. I just like my toys being that size. If you like 1/100 and that is a perfect size for you, I don't think there's much of a reason to get HG or RG unless there isn't a MG scale kit of that design.

RG is basically MG level detail and gimmicks for people who like the HG scale, the way I see it. I love my RG Zaku II but I did glue and made small modifications to make it sturdier.

Doesn't it seem a bit coincidental that the Efreet was the first one on that list and then that's what we got? And then that we got a GM Sniper II, second on the list, shortly after? And now we're getting a Barzam, third on the list.

I mean, maybe I'm really in the wrong here, but it almost seems like they're just going down the list.

How to clean little white spots left after removing a nub? Sandpaper? I'm currently using a knife
>>
>>6279434
thin to joint parts together, regular to seam weld.
>>
>>6279672
When there's a bit of discoloration but before leveling the nub with a hobby knife or metalic file I rub my fingernail over it aplying pressure. Diferent colors react diferently, most dark colors become slightly darker but the results are pretty good IMO and it's obviously much easier than buying gundam markers or cans of paint just to cover the nub
>>
>>6279575
Anyone?
>>
How do you remove the paint from places where a q tip is way too thick to reach them? I tried sorta panel line washing with a regular gundam marker on the graze eye thingy, but the paint got in some places where I couldn't reach them, so I had to remove it completely
>>
>>6279764
Simple green soak and a tooth brush works.
>>
>>6279769
gelgoog, i dont think he was asking about striping entire kits, just certain places.

>>6279764
buy hobby fine tip q tips or use an absolute fuck ton of tooth picks to scrape away the paint. If all else fails just throw it in a tub of mild degreaser like gelgoog guy said.
>>
>had a two-year old can of testor's dullcote lying around
>never actually worked up the balls to topcoat when I was building more actively
>nut up and give it a test spray on one of the only kits i have left
>seems to have worked
well fuck me, don't I feel a fool. topcoating was always the thing that stopped me from taking the hobby farther, I never wanted to spray it and then say I was done with a kit.

the moral of the story is that old topcoat seems to work fine
>>
What are some cool looking total black kits aside from Vual?
Also how to deal with total black gunplas? You obviously don't panel line them
>>
Are Gundam pens any good?
>>
Which is better for seam welding without leaving a white-ish streak? Tamiya regular cement or extra thin?

Sometimes, I can't get the welded plastic to squeeze out down the entire seam. When this happens, what do you guys tend to do? Do you pry it back open again and try with the thicker plastic cement?
>>
>>6279990
Extra thin. It has less resin, which means less discoloration.
>>
>>6279870
>Also how to deal with total black gunplas
Give them a larger gun ;)

Anything with a police theme should do nicely.

7 hours later, and I'm finally done with my first kit. In hindsight, I should have finished it tomorrow, since now I feel fucking burnt out. My main issue was either nipping too close to the detail, causing little stress marks on it, or cutting too deep while removing nubs, but, all in all, I think it turned out pretty nice
>>
>>6280042
The nipping on the skirt armor is a nightmare.

Tamiya's masking tape seems to come in 6, 10, and 18mm widths. Which is the best for general Gunpla use? I'm only hand painting with a bit of rattle can work on the side now but I have a feeling with three rolls of this stuff in the Amazon deals it's going to last forever so I'd like room to grow.
>>
>>6280060
Well, if you get 18mm you can always trim it to the other sizes

I guess they'll be going for a RG Jegan, seeing how they've already release 1 of each for Re100, HGUC, MG and that they're just following the line-up

MG Leo would be neat, and they'd probably abuse the shit out of that with P-bandai kits of its variants

I doubt if they'd make another PG for now

Maskol or liquid rubber mask.

I'm afraid of using top coat. Any tips to not screw up? My goal is to use it on unpainted models, just panel lined, a flat one.
>>
>>6281174
Test it on some painted spoons or extra pieces so you can get a feel for it
>>
>>6281174
Mr. Hobby is all but idiot proof. If you're worried try it on some spoons as already mentioned, then a few less detailed pieces. If you fuck up stripping the paint and starting over again is no big deal that way.

>>6281221

It's rather hard to fuck up top coat. Just shake the can quite a bit and don't spray too close.

just hand paint the area, when you do a panel wash it will hide imperfections.

I apologize but I am unable to locate the instructions right now. Room is a disaster area from not being able to clean after tearing it apart three times for various items this week, and it could even have been thrown out during one of my rampages searching for those things.

BUT there is this site, not as good as instructions but the way he lays out the pieces should help you.

I like big guns and I cannot lie. Kit isn't ancient and seam lines everywhere so I'm spending more time letting the glue set up than actually building.
>>
>>6281641
I was just building a couple of those Universal Units today, but it was two Barbatos's. Either way, unless you haven't built a kit ever before, they should be pretty obvious to build and all build in pretty much the same way, coming from someone who built the Barbatos, GP01Fb, and GM Custom of the same line.
>>
>>6281704
its better to have some instructions i think. I made a couple mistakes with a few of them with back wards due to how similar some of the peices are.
