Show accurate with aesthetic changes o make them more visually interesting. After Star Saber everything suddenly got fewer and fewer panel details more rounded and more show accurate. The current MP's do not match anything backwards from Ultra Magnus.
>>
>>6270180
Thank you, this. The best way to describe it was it was based off the cartoon, not a strict representation. There was enough detail to make it stand out a bit more. Look at the details on masterpiece Sounwave and compare that to the cartoon, then compare Megatron to the cartoon, and you'll see the issue. Soundwave is a representation of the character, Megatron is just the cartoon appearance.

>>6270007
I had a dream I had it. Was so cool.

Mine worked out to about $180 shipped from Anime Export.

Look, I like BBTS, but I just wasn't up for paying a $60 premium _and_ having it opened for an orange plug.

If Prime and Starscream are any indication, a later reissue will be more appropriately priced. Remember, MP-10 's original release was $249 and the reissue was $189 (the rereissue is $219).

We've entered into a new 3rd phase of MPs that are dedicated to being show accurate but keeps the same scale as everything after mp-10. Lately the two different design priorities are getting more obvious by each release. Beast Wars gets a pass for being entirely different but Prime stands out pretty badly next to Megs.

I got MP 36 for about $175.

Yes it is cheaper than the American, but at this price you can go get the biggest MP of them all (Ultra Magus or Star Saber) and still got like $20 back.

Is it worth it? Yes, but barely. I think I would be a lot happier if they give us a choice of with the gun addon version and the non gun addon version and selling the non version cheaper.

At this point I wonder if they should do a marking poll to see whether people actually want paint or not. Most of the problem in MP36 is result of the paint. It is not a model so they coat every little pieces in paint regardless of whether they are pegs or inner surfaces.

As for where should go with the line. I don't really care as I got most of the main cast in MP already (Almost purely Cons, only Prime and Sideswipe for the Autobot). Maybe Ultra Magus or Star Saber but they are Xbox huge.

So, because the current MP figures are in a style you don't like, that makes the designers lazy?

Your mistake is thinking that Masterpiece was intended to be a coherent line, in the same vein as Classics and such. Masterpiece is nothing more than branding which Takara uses to market their premium figures.

The pre MP-10 figures didn’t adhere to one style, they were each designers vision for that specific character. Just because Hasui designed several consecutive figures doesn’t mean his style defines what Masterpiece is any more than those who preceded him, nor anyone who follows.

>That doesn't answer me what "Best Megatron" is defined as.

That's because, brace yourself, there is no such thing. There is no such thing as "best Megatron" because, like so much else in this line and so-called "fandom", there's too many people with too many differing ideas of what is "best", to the point of being contradictory or outright incompatible to one another, that there will never be anything remotely close to a consensus on what "best" even means.

If it's not too complex, it's too simple. If there's not enough detail, there's too much detail. If it's not accurate enough, it's somehow TOO accurate. Too much paint, too little paint, legs too fat, legs too thin, he should have been a tank, he should have been a jet, he should have been a razor-spiked dildo.

You ask what "Best Megatron" is defined as, and all you will get is an argument with no end, because it's a question with no real answer.

The biggest evidence is probably that none of the major online toy sellers have had PO's for this shit up for months. Only recently have some begun to trickle out, and none for the Deluxes yet. They normally toss up PO's loooooooong before anything drops. Something is obviously gumming up the works here, whether it's actually Walmart or not who knows.

>>
I'm going to mention something about Sixshot I found out after fiddling with it. Turns out there's a way to store the guns on his back that doesn't involve having them combined and attaching them to his wings peg holes. The feature works by using those "I" pegs that are meant to peg the wings in for various modes, the guns have "l" pegs below them that can slot in there just fine.

The TFwiki mentions the feature but doesn't explain jack shit (they always do this).
>>
>>6270430

Despo's pretty clearly based off comic booky versions of Megs, where he usually ends up ridiculously beefy. Or maybe Devastation Megs, where he was pretty chunky too. Personally, I like the chunky Megs more than the G1 nowadays, and I grew up with G1. The MP looks spot on, but it only reminds me G1 Megs was pretty twiggy compared to barrel chested chunkbox Prime.

I think part of the issue is we've seen so many versions of Megatron (compared to Prime who stays mostly consistant) that I think the G1 cartoon design has grown a bit outdated compared to other designs, like how detailed he is in the comics, or a tad more beefed up like in Devastation. I think part of the problem with this MP (aside from design issues) is that he's outdated. He's vanilla. I think even I've grown more attached to his Devastation design, and a part of me thinks even the CW leader is better in a few ways than the MP, even though they are completely different and not in the same field at all.

So... instead of having to deal with some paint scrapes, and having parts of the toy look ugly because they're damaged, you'd rather just have the whole toy look like a miserably cheap piece of shit? Name one completely gray MP that looks good. Grimlock and Starscream look like swirly gray turds.
>>
>>6270498

You can do solid grey plastic without it looking like cheap swirly shit. Look at just about any grey plastic model kit ever made. Also Grimlock is probably swirly because his original toy was swirly.
>>
>>6270355
>6 months out of the year.
That's way too generous, more like 10.
>>
>>6270478
I don't think Megatron is any more outdated than any other G1 character. It's just that the line has become too much about strict G1 accuracy. The other problem is that the cartoon models took a lot of liberties based on what was physically possible with a toy, and then the MP has to somehow magically reconcile with something a character designer pulled out of their ass 30 years ago.

Ironhide is a good example of how much of a struggle it can be, but Ironhide made some sacrifices to the bot mode to still have a decent looking figure with a fun transformation. Same happened with Hot Rod, whose cartoon model was designed completely independently of the toy, so there's really not a lot of physical relation between his two modes. Entire parts of one mode completely disappear in the other and vise-versa. You can tell with Megatron, they were deadset on getting 100% cartoon accuracy on the bot mode, and with the exception of a kibble-heavy back, they managed it, but the transformation is an utter clusterfuck compared to pretty much every previous MP because of it.

>>6270502
>Grimlock is probably swirly because his original toy was swirly.
Then why is Starscream swirly? I'll give you a hint. It's because Takara is cheap on shit like that, which is the same reason Grimlock is swirly. I had a couple of gray model kits, mostly 3P Transformers stuff. Indeed, they weren't swirly, or at least not nearly as much as Hasbro/Takara shit is at times, but it still didn't look nice enough that I wanted to leave it unpainted. On a figure that costs almost 200 bucks, I sure as hell don't want unpainted gray plastic to be the majority of the surface area at all.
>>
>>6270502
>Also Grimlock is probably swirly because his original toy was swirly
Well then the entire MP line should just settle for being shit, because, why not? The original toys were shit.

And I genuinely wanted to know what about him was superior besides being "official", and honestly the more I saw, I was actually quite a bit happier with what saw of Despotron, I was going to get that then. The real cancer here are people like you, who have this superiority complex and need to brag about this class warfare of Takara MPs vs 3Ps, rather than let people ask for opinions and choose what they want based om their preferences.

This is why cartoon accuracy is a mistake. You'll never make autists happy. They need to just go back to making good figures for the rest of us that actually like toys, and not just things that look like a 30-year-old cartoon.
>>
>>6270978

>>

Wrong. The autists are the mistake. Their happiness is not Takara's problem. This is why they have such sad and lonely lives.

Normal people like me find MP Megs just fine. I personally find him awesome.
>>
Can I get a quick rundown of the paint issues on this guy?
>>
>>6270981
I don't hate it, but it is pretty bad. I credit it for launching a phenomenon, but the writing and animation is terrible, and trying to make toys look like the poorly-proportioned, lazily-detailed animation cels is dumb as fuck.

I like how your feeble mind can't grasp that there might actually be a robot design superior to your 30-year-old toy commercial, so because you're unable to admit your taste is shit, you think the only explanation is that people just have an irrational hate-boner for the cartoon.

>>6270984
According to most, the issue is that it has paint.
>>
>>6270978
>>6270982

The issues is that they need sales. They are now getting pinched hard by the 3rd party market where the difference in cost is much more negligible than a decade ago. It's what leads to strange oddities like Primal having light up eyes or Megtron's FX box. They are trying to add cheap features in hopes that it can be spin over why the cost is climbing so bad.
>>
>>6270977
You realize you're on this board too, right? You're no better than us.
>>
>>6271002
Shhh please don't pop the Takarafag's safe space bubble, they get very angry.
>>
>>6270996
I think it's more exploitation to the maximum level.
Consider this: MP Shockwave came out about the same time last year as Megs is this year. Shockwave was about $80~$100 by direct market. Megatron is over double that.
Both have electronics with Shockwave having more wiring overall to get both the hand and gun lighting.
Both are about the same height and weight.
Accessories in numbers play out about same however we could start splinting hairs on cost where most of Shockwave's is double sets of hands in other colors.
Megatron has a lot more paint.
But with that does it really justify the $100 price tag hike? Is it really worth double?
I think we all know the answer is "no" however a lot of fans will shamelessly get him because it's G1 Megatron gun and all. I think it's also why the over engineered it and thus all the QC issues, they want to push those fans over the edge and open their wallets just to say they bought it.
>>
>>6270978
>They need to just go back to making good figures for the rest of us that actually like toys, and not just things that look like a 30-year-old cartoon.

So you want them to resemble the g1 bricks?
>>
>>6271002
I don't take toys as seriously as the people here. I don't want to say it, but I -am- better. Sorry, but I can't leave your accusation unanswered.
>>
>>6270964
How can you not for the cost? Somthing has gone seriously wrong when the official product cost more than 3rd party offerings and is about on par or worse in design and engineering. And then theirs the QC issues, I mean holy shit when it reaches a point you spent $200ish on something you can't even play with as intended in fear of it breaking? What the hell happen?

See, all these details you pointed out are literally not important to regular people. All that matters to them is, does it transform from Megatron to a gun and back? Does it look cool as a robot and as a gun? Are there issues that totally prevent it from transforming? If there are no problems with any of these questions, then they will buy it if they want it.

As for the cost being too expensive for what the toy is, it wouldn't matter to them either because they want to buy a fully-transforming Megatron.

These are probably the same people making up excuses about how Takara Groove sucked and then suddenly everyone shut up as soon as Hasbro announced a release.
>>
>>6271123
>You'd be surprised at the random shit regular people buy on impulse
Actually, you're very right. I have some friends that are pretty normal compared to me, and they've bought some damn pricey collector's items on a whim. But I still feel like any normal person who bought MP Megatron would try to transform him once and immediately regret their purchase.

>>6271125
I really don't recall there being too many complaints about MP-10 thru 23 or whenever the shift started happening. I mean, there were always the autists who bitched that Sideswipe's chest was too wide to match the cartoon, but that is physically fucking impossible to change, unless you start over-engineering the figures, and then your alt. modes become a mess of panels and the transformation becomes a headache, kind of like Megatron here. (not that it matters because most geewunners don't transform their shit anyway)

The point is we can't cater THAT hard to the cartoon-accuracy fags. That level of pandering starts to hurt the figures, and it doesn't matter because people will ALWAYS find stuff to bitch about anyway. Instead, they should go back to making the figures better and simpler, because those same Geewunners are going to buy the damn things anyway, regardless of how much they look like the cartoon.
>>
>>6271101
It's only wrong to want cartoon accuracy when it's G1. Everything else is allowed to have cartoon accuracy. Didn't you know this?

You underestimate how many 30-somethings there are in this fandom. Like a lot. Especially if you dare to tread other forums like TFW and shit.

I'm 30, myself. While I was a bit late for the initial surge, I did like Transformers growing up, and I do appreciate G1. I just don't really want my $100+ toys looking like the cartoon because the cartoon looked like ass, more often than not.
>>
>>6271167
Where exactly because looking at the over all market it's shifting harder to vinyl toys and kid/college aimed lines.

Yeah, I don't get why they're making Beast Wars Masterpiece toys either.
>>
>>6271172
>the cartoon looked like ass, more often than not.

pretty much how i feel as well. i'm all for as close as possible to cartoon accuracy in other lines (incl. the BW masterpiece figures), but I've mostly been disappointed with that direction in the more recent mainline MPs. as much as I'm sentimental about the G1 cartoon since it was a huge part of my childhood, I really don't want that level slavishness to the show because, frankly, the show was cheap and the animation models were garbage.

older MPs and some 3Ps manage to capture the characters as I remembered them rather than as they actually were in the show and my preference definitely skews in that direction these days.
>>
>>6271178
In fairness Beast Wars is that right market to shot at. The age gap there is not nearly as huge. 21-35 would be the age gap on that, much closer to the 2005 TF craze we hit.

I might splurge and get MP Ultra Magnus. I've been wanting him for a while and he's only going to get more expensive anyway.

Anyone have a fix for a floppy sixshot arm? Loose fucking shoulder

>>
>>6272012
You weren't missing much.
>>
>>6272012
Hes on sale for 10 usd all over my country (Mexico) most had loose joint issues and he was small for CW, but if you can find him cheap he works pretty nicely with titanmasters/cityformers.
>>
>>6272012
wow anon it sure sucks that you missed worse smokescreen, worse hound, worse, trailbreaker and worse wheeljack.
>>
>>6272012
Skylynx is the only one in that wave that was good.

You don't buy him for Sky Reign, You buy him for SkyLynx.
>>
>try to win a old Classics era TF on ebay
>get outbid in .00001s at the end of the auction
>check bidder
>its a brand new account with 100+ bids in the last 5 minutes

I didn't REALLY want it but am still angry that it was just a chinese bot account that outbid me.
>>
>>6272036
I don't even bother with ebay bids anymore, anything worth buying will get botted.

buy it now or bust.
>>
Voyagers are 50% off here (~$15). Should I grab an Astrotrain to go with Sentinel? The spaceship design is so cool!

>mfw trying to get MP Megatron's entire upper body back into robot mode

this makes ROTF Leader Prime look like a fucking cakewalk.
>>
>>6272164
just break it and glue it back together in the right shape like every other chump here
>>
>>6272164
Dammit. And so the glory days of the MP line are over. Despotron it is.
>>
>>6272145
That $15 voyager deal is honestly making me wonder if I shouldn't pick up TR Galvatron, now that head mods exist for that god awful helmet

Just picked TR Sixshot, what are you supposed to do with his TM in jet mode? Instructions seem to have you stick his robot helmet out the back (ridiculous) and just toss the TM in the empty cavity?
>>
>>6271680
I wasn't ignoring the point, just saying he's not white.

Waiting forever for for more 3P attempts it is then

I have yet to see a single Bee in the wild, but somehow have 3 sharks. Does he fit inside Powermaster Prime's trailer? Wheelie fits, but Hotrod doesn't. Bee's somewhere in between, right?
>>
>>6272193
Don't worry what others think. Enjoy what you want.
>>
>>6272194
Bee sells because most kids know him. To know who Gnaw is you have to be at least 30 or really much older. It's a sign of the times.
>>
>>6272194
Bee fits, yeah. Pretty much only legends fit in there
>>
>>6272179
Didn't want to go through the trouble of ordering more parts for what should be a $15 figure. Tempted to grab one if I come across it on clearance, but other than that it doesn't seem worth it
>>
If this wasn't stupidly huge I'd be interested.
>>
>>6272193
Apollyon looks a bit dated, but I totally see its appeal. It has this imposing, detailed look that no other Megatron has quite replicated.
>>
>find a TR Soundwave on sale in TRU
>skipped the Takara cause it was extremely expensive for what it was

Holy shit I have 0 regrets. He actually has a lot of paint where it really counts and he feels quite nice on hand.

TRU in Canada, specifically the Niagara Falls location since I was there with my family and we had to go to TRU to get a gift for someone's b-day tomorrow.
>>
>>6272365
Why does TRU Canada get all the specials? The last decent TR special was all the way back in December, and it wasn't that good either.
