Hope this is the right place to post this.
I got my Adverge figures in. They are like little figurines, no pose-ability whatsoever. That will probably turn a lot of people off, plus their proportions and how they pose (that Bruce Timm lean). However they look neat to me as a fan of the Gundam Converge line.

For volume 1 they released a chase variant of Trunks as Super Saiyan 1. You don't know what you got till you open it.

Also, unlike the Gundam Converge line, they mark the stands with symbols so you don't lose track of who's stand goes to who. On top of that, the bags are easier to open and labeled so you can easily put them back in the bags for storage.


I think I'm going to get the next volumes after this, and a regular Trunks. The odd thing is they release the Super Saiyan versions of characters instead of their base forms. Nothing wrong with Super Saiyans, but kind of hope they go back and release base forms too. Ah well, that's Bandai for you. The Gundam Converge line does strange things like that too, but it also opens the way for more characters.

The sad thing is that most of the DBZ stuff shelfwarms, hard, for about a year so you have plenty of time to get it very cheap. These days, if I order them for my shop, I just keep them in a closet for 12-18 months. For Awakening and SS3, I got the idea that this was Bandai's way of giving us a basic SS Goku 2.0. Buy both of them and you will get it. I theorize that every 2.0 Goku will function this way as a response to fans who keep demanding a certain form of Goku in a certain specific outfit. These demands came in the dozens during 1.0 releases. Frieza saga Goku coming out but being an event exclusive probably had Bandai feeling those complaints much more.

Other characters in the 2.0 line will help build other versions of themselves and new characters. Gokus may mostly just help make more of themselves, with a couple of pieces maybe being borrowed for other characters. For example, imagine something like this image. If Bandai released Gokus exactly like these, you'd have every form and every iteration of his gi fans would want. SS2 Goku and SSG Goku would share the same gi, but their different proportions would result in unique sculpts anyway.

With all that said, I think base Goku in his Kame gi will be next after SS3. Saiyan Saga Vegeta and Nappa are coming out, and Goku wore this gi in that saga. SS3 Goku will provide the clean base body. The Yamcha prototype may provide its tied waist band. Plus, Yamcha demonstrates that Bandai is ready to print symbols on gi for the 2.0 line.

The torso can pop up a little to get more articulation (similar effect to the drop down hips), and whoever did that pic didn't realign/compress the torso. That's why it looks scrawny.

Despite the leaner proportions, I got the original Cell on a whim when it first came out, and he's one of My favorite DBZ Figuarts, honestly.

The biggest visual detractors on the model kits in general are the eyes since they look very dilated, which is only exacerbated by how fucking huge the whites of the eyes are.

If you can, give him some proper irises so he doesn't look like a junkie, gloss coat up his black parts, and if possible find a way to narrow his hips a bit so he doesn't have thighs wider than his shoulders.

The carapace's 2-layer construction is going to give me some trouble when it comes to trimming down the bulky thighs. Maybe a Dremel with a sanding cone would do the trick.

His irises are red and they don't fill in all the way.

Also, his thighs are a T-joint construction, so you could just file down the ends a bit to compress the hips for neutral standing poses.

I don't know why the kit has those weird points on his thigh armor, I don't think I've seen any official art of Cell that has that, but at least they'll be easy to shave off.

His yellow earpiece things look like they extend a bit too far down, I think they're supposed to end just above the bottom of his nose.

I kind of want to try cloning the faceplate with some silicone mold putty so I can give him a wider range of expressions, but I'll have to examine the mechanism attaching it to the head to see if a polymer clay faceplate is feasible. I want to make more hands as well, if I can. Of course I'll add fingernails too.

This project won't be finished anytime soon, I don't have anywhere safe to set up an airbrushing booth in my current apartment. But it's never too early to start planning and compiling reference, right?

Any opinions on color choices? I'm thinking a green in between the default plastic and the muted Figuarts version 1 color. The black will be glossy, with a very subtle purple tint, I think.

I haven't seen any custom paintjobs for this kit, yet. I'm worried about painting the exterior green parts without clogging up the holes in them. Maybe if I put masking tape on the interior surface, any paint that gets in the holes will come off when I remove it?

He also scales exactly as badly with figure-rise Goku as the figuarts Cell and Goku do.

Yeah, because his sculpt is inaccurate. Add to that the figuarts' most notable limitations like his shit hip articulation stem from model accuracy.

He's technically the right height for base Perfect Cell, but he's a bit too bulky. If the kit was actually a bit larger it would work much better as beefy Cell because he was gargantuan compared to Gohan in that state.

I was super dissapointed that the initial 4 releases were a half inch shorter than the rest of the releases. I have 6 Goku figures... Kame dogi base Goku, regular dogi base goku, Namek ssj Goku, Cell era ssj Goku, ssj god Goku, ssj blue Goku, and 3 of them are smaller than the rest >_<

Can this be a Dragon Ball toy general? I had a question about pic related. Are these recent rereleases by Bandai? I don't ever recall seeing these boxes as a kid.
