I'm still not quite sure how to implement this idea. I'm using my monitor for the background, and my lighting is the flash on my phone combined with a regular flash light.
I could shell out money for a proper lamp and back drops, but I have no space

What I would try would be...

- Don't use flash. At such short distance, the reflection break the effect.
- Set your monitor brightness to the maximum level available.
- Use lamps with a diffuser over them. A white thin paper sheet will work. This way, there won't be hard shadows over the monitor, which would give away the illusion. However, having as much light as possible is always a good idea.

However, I'm not an expert, so take my advice with a bit of caution.

The surcoat is just blue fabric from Michael's, I cut a rectangle and sliced some X's and shoved his arms thru, then folded the extra down and tucked it under the chest belt. The scarf is cut from a reusable shopping bag, probably some kind d of polyester, it frays super easily but it was the only fabric I had on hand that was thin enough to let me bunch it up and still look decent in this scale.

Also the whole thing has a black wash on his armor.

Very. I heated up the hard plastic cape with a hairdryer until it was super floppy, then snipped it off at the shoulder with my nub cutters. Then I just super glued the cloth cape onto the point where the old one was attached.

This ain't half bad honestly. Dramatic, nice mood, I like the foliage. I would have hidden whatever that glowing thing is behind him though, it's distracting and makes my eye go to the background when it should be focued on Raph.

Oh, and to clarify, I mean that I would have pushed the glowing thing to the right, hiding it behind his shell--NOT take it out entirely. It's actually providing a good bg fill that pops out his silhouette instead of letting him dissolve into shadow.
