I live in Boston currently for school, but was just home in NJ for spring break. Had some great success finding some of the new castings that I couldn't find/missed up in MA.

My dad loves 59 Cadillacs and I was wondering to the /toy/ friends who are a little more up to date on the various diecast series.....is there one out on the market I could get him right now?

I know sometimes Hot Wheels will sneak them into licensed sets, and I always check those other series at walmart in the little square display boxes but I haven't seen one in awhile.

I hope you guys can see the engine inside the back window. I love this detail! The inside of the car is amazingly detailed.. I may have to actually retake some pics of the interior.. The drop bucket seats..the rear engine..even the dash board is sculpted! Props hot wheels...

If you're not looking for a specific model nor care about pristine condition, Hotwheels and Matchbox cars are the easiest toys to collect. There is an infinity of buckets and baggies of them for dirt cheap in any flea markets and thrift stores.

Anyone collecting tthem this way by the bucketfull?

Hmm nah, that's a great way to jump start a collection definitely. and you may find some really good stuff, but I'm more about finding specific cars that I really want. that's why I usually only buy 2-4 cars at a time. My tastes are pretty specific as well.

But that being said, buying en bulk, like that does have it's merrit if you like trading, collecting different, unique and sometimes rare older finds.

Ok, so.... the picture is of a Walmart I go to twice a week. For 6 months their hot wheels pegs have been EMPTY. Bare bones, empty. I ask them when they will get more cars in. Nobody knows. Or cares to tell me. Garbage customer service in the toy department. And then it dawned on me as I walk through today.
I have seen a shipper box like that before in the same store, at the same time last year. Guess what was mixed in with the hot new cars? THE REKT OLD HOT WHEELS FROM YEARS AGO! >=^(

I found cars from fucking 2012. Only enough card to hold the car in the plastic. Dusty, dirty, dingy, crumbled, ripped up, CARS OPEN IN THE BOTTOM OF THE BOX..... ugh. I figured out how this store operates: Every year that they get a new dump bin, they take the cars that didn't sell from the old dump bins of years past and combine them into the new bin. And the cycle continues. They don't even stock the pegs. Ever. I need to return a barstool tonight, I will take a pic of the pegs and you can see my torment.

I had seen the old dump bin last year and the year before, but I didn't collect back then. I bought some of the old ones I had never seen before, along with the new hotness. I will post what all I found in the next couple days.

I found new cars, sure. But out of those 3 bins, I went home with 10 cars. And 6 of them were old models! No Treasure Hunts or Supers. Someone must have got there before me. Maybe an employee. Maybe the guy who hauls the old bin out of it's dusty corner each year.

At least he left an extra Lambo and a Batmobile at the bottom of the 3rd bin for me to find. I set them on top on the left if you zoom in on the picture of the bins.I should really start going right to left.

I have 3 Walmarts around me as well. So far the 2 I have been to had the case out. I'm going to the 3rd one to find the Super, since the others just had the TH HW Pursuit. Pic related.

I checked the 3rd Target. It's a HUGE store. And they have ordered waaay too many Hot Wheels over the years. They've had the same ones forever. And never any rares, TH, or Supers. EVER. No Lambos, porshes, anything cool....

Get this. The Target exclusive cars come with a pink display box to stock them in. I saw the boxes. But no new cars. They shoved all the peg warmers into the new boxes.

So either they still have the cases in back, waiting for space, OR the store is crooked as fuck and takes all the rares and exclusives for themselves. I'm guessing the latter. I'm not bitter, I swear.

But if you want to jump start a collection it's alright I guess. I'd rather just go to my local target, wait for a sale, and stock up on the entire range.

Toys r Us and Big Lots sometimes have buy one get one sales. Strike when those are on.

But for amazon/ebay, unless you're getting it super cheap, no shipping costs and you know you may want some of the cars in the lot, I wouldn't bother...

there are tons of different multipacks out there. If you aren't looking for anything specific, go for a 9 pack or a 20 pack. They are a random assortment of cars from the previous year. You can try 3 packs, but I would only buy those in person, the assortments are pretty bad. I looked through alot and only bought a few.

The 5 packs are specific sets with a theme.

Unboxed the Galactic Express today. It is absolutely beautiful. the entire trailer is chrome with a mural on the sides. the cab has a huge purple body kit with lots of running lights. It's a Japanese dekotora! I've been looking for one for while.

When Matchbox get's something it, it gets it right! 90% of Matchbox are pretty fantasy, over the top trucks and to be honest more catered for kids. But this taxi I found, and I really like it...looks to be a foreign influence.

honestly its all your own choice about what kind of cars you like. Generally speaking the most popular cars tend to be the real cars with the realistic or sponsored paint apps. if you want to get a little more specific, the japanese models are popular now and typically the old classics like the gasser above

personally my favorites out of those 9 are the fairlady and the bmw 2002

All gas engines have an air intake to make the air/fuel mixture. the radiator doesn't intake any air it just cools it when air passes threw it. Only smaller engine use an air cooled engine the look kinda like fins (see picture). You might be thinking of a naturally aspirated engine vs a force induction engine/system. A forced induction system is like a turbo-charger or super charger.

Went to target today, but couldn't find these, Are they still on regular store shelves? I may try Big Lots later this weekend. While I was at Target though, picked up the UNSC Warthog. I already had the Hot Wheels Basic version of it, but after seeing RaceGrooves unboxing, this one BLOWS the basic one away... The tires are rubber, so much beefier, and the paint job is superb! Does anyone have a car that is too wide to work normally on a track? My hot wheels porsche 934 turbo rsr is too wide for track, barely rolls and has got too much friction. Is that an issue with any other hot wheels car?

For a long time I didn't realize they label the cars that are ideal for track with "best for track" or "track stars". The cars without that label can be hit or miss if they are good or not

Does anyone have maisto cars? In 1/64 scale. How do they compare to hot wheels on tracks? Are they equally fast?

Can someone help me identify these cars from this used car lot? Or tell me if there are some good cars in particular? What are 3. And 5. Cars in second upper row? Red car looks like enzo and orange one looks like dodge charger daytona? Are they hot wheels?

I recommend you just take a guess at the models and search the hot wheels wikia. Also generally speaking you should know if they are hot wheels by looking at the bottom of the cars

They do definitely. My gf's niece (her sister's kid) is a big fan of the movie Cars, and had a bunch. He loves getting the toy cars that are slightly bigger in scale to hot wheels / matchbox though. He's hm...I want to say 5 or 6?

Vehicle toys are still the default toy for getting a kid that people think is too young to play with complicated stuff like action figures or lego. Trucks, trains and stuff like Cars (the movie) are still popular

you also can't beat hot wheels for the price of a cheap impulse purchase at the market. I often seen younger kids ask for a toy and the parent will go pick up a hot wheel to satiate them

My suggestion to you mate, is to buy in bulk. Don't buy like 1 or 2 cars. Go to a retailer like A&J Toys and buy an entire case. It *Should* be cheaper?

Picked up this today at Stop n Shop for my police car collection btw!

Hi guys, I'm from /o/&/fit/ so I don't really know how /toy/ works. Sorry if bumping this while it's on page 10 is considered bad.

I've recently had a decent head injury and the doctor at the hospital has had my driver's license pulled, maybe indefinitely. I am a big fan of cars so I thought maybe collecting these cool hotwheels would help out. I used to have them as a kid and really enjoyed them.
Mostly I just smashed them together at that age, though.

I'm wondering if anyone has recommendations on where to buy hotwheels in Canada? I usually shop online but I would prefer to check the cars I buy out in real life first to make sure that the paint is nice and what not.

And any recommendations on how to collect without breaking the bank? I have a great job but I have some other things to save for right now. I don't really care for collecting vintage ones or collectors items, I would just like nice examples of cars that I like in real life.
My house is pretty big (I have 5 roomates) so I was also thinking of picking up some track to run down from our attic into the kitchen to run some cars down. That might be funny.

Generally speaking Hot Wheels is a relatively cheap hobby, the mainline cars (the iconic blue packaging) are in the ballpark of $1 and that is where the majority of cars are released. Every month or so there is hypothetically a new mix of cars available and maybe about half of them are real cars. Within that segment of real cars there is a range, from modern to vintage models, racing decos or flame decos, etc. I would imagine if you had 1 specific genre of car you liked, you wouldn't be spending too much to collect them

If you want higher quality cars, they have the special models that range from $3-$5. These are themed and the reason they are expensive is because they are mostly metal and have rubber wheels. Mainline cars are now probably 50% plastic or more and have the traditional plastic wheels. These special theme cars are released less often, maybe one set every few months and there are only about 5-8 cars in each set

So my suggestion is just go to a grocery store or store like Toys R Us and just pick what you like, it shouldnt be too expensive. Toys R Us will be where the tracks are found though

You use a 3.5mm or 4mm drill bit to slowly and lightly drill the two screws on the base till it's flush. At that point it can pop out and you can still clip the base back on. After that you have to kind of pry the tabs that keep the axles in place, especially if it's a metal chassis. If it's plastic just lift them slightly and take out the axle so the tabs don't break.
