I'm also weirded out by all those "Two Bad" cut up customs I see on eBay. The seller's hacking up valuable vintage figures, gluing them together poorly, and his asking prices are less than the base figures are even worth.

I have an extreme fear of razors and x-actos so I literally just file them down with nail clippers use sand paper if it needs extra smoothing.

Always turns out looking fine. Dunno why people think it's hard or that you need specialized tools to get rid of nubs. Ghetto shit gets the job done and you'd barely know the difference, especially if you paint and/or top coat.
