He's pretty great, though. I've got a few minor nitpicks, but overall, he's fantastic. Could have been better if they hadn't starting doing the whole "strict cartoon accuracy" thing. It's a shame when the G1 toy has more detail than the MP simply because we're trying to match lazy, 33-year-old animation.

Am I the only one who would have wished we had gotten Voyager-class triple-changing Snapdragon and Apeface? Not only are they cool, they could have also been remolded as Optimal Optimus and Transmetal 2 Megatron since both are triple-changers with a vehicle and animal mode, one an ape and one a dragon. Sure, Transmetal 2 Megatron lacked a third mode but I think it could have pulled it off as an interesting rendition.

Hm, good question. I think aesthetic which tend toward asymmetrical and/or spiky aren't so much the worst as the easiest to look terrible. Things with a more grungy, punky or post apocalyptic look with asymmetrical armor and spiky bits. In theory, if done well those can work but in practice it's easy for it to look really fucking awful. A knight-esque look usually involve cleaner, smoother lines of armor, as people associate this with the full plate of the late middle age.

For a Transformers example of how it can go wrong or right, see Beast Wars Transmetal 2 and TF Prime Beast Hunters figures, both with similar styles and plenty of cases where it's really hit or miss.

So, random thought: we all know that in the 1986 Movie they killed off the old characters to make way for new toys but I have wonder: why did they make the Powered Convoy figure into a new character (Ultra Magnus) when the figure was ALREADY essentially the original 'super mode Optimus'. They could have just had Optimus upgraded just like Megatron was reborn into Galvatron.

Don't get me wrong, I like Ultra Magnus but it puzzle me why he wasn't made into an upgrade when his toy already is one for Optimus.

The main portion of the face around the mouth should be matching the gray of torso.

I don't know, about you, but as a kid growing up on Beast Wars the moment I saw 'Optimal Optimus' I immediately went "I *WANT* that!". Granted it was a completely new mold whereas Ultra Magnus is basically a shell around G1 Optimus but I highly doubt kids would care about molds and retools.

They could have renamed him like how Megatron turned into Galvatron and spared themselves the mess that was WAAAH, I DON'T LIKE RODIMUS PRIME WAAH! Oh and kids seeing their hero die. That must have sucked.

After making his feature debut with Kubo and the Two Strings, Travis Knight will now turn his attention to Paramount's planned Transformers spinoff, which will focus on the lovable Bumblebee...

According to Deadline, Travis Knight has been tapped to helm Paramount's Bumblebee movie, which will feature the fan-favorite yellow Autobot from the Transformers franchise.

Knight previously directed the Academy Award-nominated animated film, Kubo and the Two Strings, but this would mark his first foray into live-action. The studio was clearly searching for a director with a background in animation for this one, as they also met with The LEGO Batman Movie's Chris McKay.

Armada Megs was a combination of all megs before him (Tank mode like G2, hip canon like G1, huge chunks of purple like Beast Wars)
He got rebuilt into this form for Energon, which made it the default "galvatron" version (cause that's what you name Megatron when he gets rebuilt) so they went with that design, but they also knew they were going to actually rename him as galvatron eventually, so the first colorscheme wasn't purple.
Honestly, Energon Megs' colorscheme is the WIERDEST megatron colors we ever got.

UM was originally a completely separate character, with a unique design (that looked a lot like Orion Pax, ironically enough)
At some point though they decided to use the powered convoy toy. My guess is they made that decision after the decision to kill off prime, since the story had effectively been written by that point.
If they hadn't done that, I'm pretty sure we would have seen powered convoy in The Return of Optimus Prime. But thank god they did.

The vehicle is nothing like Thunderwings, other than that it's also a "futuristic jet" which is what all jets in Energon were.

So my MP Cheetor came in today and I can already tell this dude's paint is going to rub right off after a few transformations. Already on the one joint a whole shitload rubbed off because the hinge is so tight.

I love how these things look, but the paint QC is shit.

Primal's fur texture was actually fine for me. His robot faceplate in Beast Mode would rub up on the one neck panel of the BM because it wouldn't always slip into place and it's like a 50/50 chance that it won't and you can't exactly know until you try to pop it in place. I learned my lesson with that and put a thin coat of white where it rubbed off on his faceplate. The other part on Optimus is actually his BM chest tucked behind the Robot Mode chest. Something on the back of that actually scraped some of the shiny metallic blue off. Not too noticeable but still really fucking annoying.

Everything else is good. Cheetor looks like he's just gonna keep chipping. I guess I won't really mess around with him that much.

Is Leader Ultra Magnus the most overrated figure in CW? I can't believe I spent 50 euros on this garbage, the vehicle mode looks awful, the paint is absurdly lackluster, posing him is nearly impossible since the hollow and poorly hinged feet constantly make him fall over and he can barely hold his weapons. The robot mode does look good but that's literally the only quality I can attribute to him, everything else is just... bad.

Sure, it's not the worst thing about CW in any way (I would rather have him over any of the terrible Deluxe figures for instance), but there's such a miserable cheapness about him that almost makes the poor guy feel like an upscaled Cyberverse / Legends rather than something in the same class as ROTF Optimus or HFTD Starscream. 2015 figures really were a sad thing to behold, they were all made underbudget with Hasbro constantly cutting corners on everything from engineering to paint.

For perfect Effect the price is actually more reasonable than what they've released in the past. Their RC bike bots that were smaller deluxes cost around $80-$90 when they first hit. the tiny scouting force guys cost $90 as well.

He also comes with additional parts and swappable hands, is garenteed to have a good amount of paint given the company, and has more than basic articulation that Takara couldn't fucking bother putting in the Masterpiece Saber stand right beside it. Given PE I would have expected $90 minimum. Instead he's larger than most other deluxe third party things in the same price range like FP/MT combiner team members.

You just got to watch out for shitty fucking tolerances which is an ongoing problem with PE's more intricate designs.

They're just going for a beefy aesthetic. Nothing about them is SD, because they have proportionate limbs. SD style is usually with super inflated heads, not tiny heads. Tiny heads is just a "thing" among most robot designs, as it creates an illusion of size.

I finally got a UW Bruticus today and it has pretty much every common issue but not to that large a scale.
Blast Off's legs don't stay together in arm mode, Vortex's BFG slot was too tight and got slightly warped when testing it, Bruticus' thighs don't stay together, and Brawl is Brawl. The rest is fine, though, Onslaught in particular is just beautiful.

BTW, Brawl is a mess. Brawl is a waste. Brawl is a big fat mistake. They should've just retooled Rook and I wouldn't mind it even with my autism of not owning more than one mold because the tank mold is possibly the worst thing in the line together with Breakdown and Motormaster; fuck, I might even try to do just that. And even the fucking BFG's thumb is floppy as fuck, and I really don't want to be hammering the pin down.

I'll go look for the PE feet and hands locally as soon as I can because Bruticus can't pose for shit with the stock feet.

Fuck, I just noticed Alternator Ravage's entire car roof is made of painted clear plastic, and I notice some hairline cracks around places where metal pins go through. I also have no clue if they were there when I got him (used) or if they slowly appeared as I transformed him over and over again.

He's too beautiful in both modes for me to leave him alone with transforming him again. Will he eventually get fucked over - and will super glue be enough to fix him?

Most Walgreen's aren't that lucky. I've checked about six of them, most have one or two guys from wave one or two, and will have no plans to restock. Other than that, I've seen four Rodimus' at Walgreen's, one of the only newer toys I don't want.

Distribution in the U.S. is really bad right now. Most stores will have a few Titan Masters, some leaders, and maybe a couple voyagers, and they've been that way since before Christmas.

Just got Leader Sky Shadow in, and wow anons, this guy almost brought a tear to my eye.

It's the first Transformers mainline toy in what feels like 5 years that doesn't feel like a hollow piece of shit. The legs are wonderfully hefty, with screws and ratchets, the thighs aren't hollow at all with no gaping holes, and the torso is solid and thicc. The only weak point are the arms, but even then, they're better than the abominations on PM Prime. I just wish they were a bit tighter at the shoulders.

Anons, dare I hope that this is the start of a new trend? Even if this figure absorbed the plastic budget of the entire series, it's still such a breath of fresh air. It almost feels as hefty as a Cybertron figure.

It's better than on Voyager Prime, that's for sure. The faction stickers on his shoulders are unobtrusive and the stickers on his wings don't feel that badly out of place. Paint apps would be preferable of course but it probably has the best sticker apps of any current release (which really isn't saying much).

As a kid I always enjoyed the pack-in comics that came with the Energon toys. I never watched Energon until long after the series was over so for a long time that was the only "current" fiction I had. I actually recently got a G1 Grapple reissue, and honestly, he looks cooler than Inferno to me. I think I might also follow you guys and end buying the MP anytime soon, the overall molding also seems to be better than MP Inferno (the extra details on the legs and arms do add up a lot) and I love how you can sort of switch the parts around between being toy accurate and cartoon accurate.

I have never watched the movies and I think most of the designs are shit frankly. Shockwave is a good example of this. If you want a legit one even the BH toy is preferable over the movie's overdesigned garbage.
