Why do you people buy cheap mainline toys when nice collectors items like Masterpiece and Third Party Toys exist? Do you have no concept of quality over quantity? Why spend over 150 dollars on a wave of Takara deluxes when you could have bought 1-2 actually good items instead.

They were fine when I was a child but then I actually got to experience an MP first hand and I never looked back.
>>
>>6216180
>>6188886
>>
>>6216180
Some people have some autistic qualm about buying third party. Others like me, want to cover as many characters as possible. If I was keeping my collection small in number, I'd going for higher quality stuff like MP. But most third parties suck for MP toys. Very few do it right, off the top of my head Chromedome, Sureshot, one of the Dinobot lines looked pretty good (FP I think) and Downbeat Jazz. The rest don't follow the MP rules.
>>
>>6216180
I buy new Hot Toys and discounted Mega Bloks in the same week. I'll buy a Soul of chogokin and then go to the thriftshop and get a bag of cheap bayformers a little later. I don't give a fuck, a fun toy is a fun toy.

MP is the singular line I seem to be autistic about.
Of all my Third Party stuff I don't have any MP stand-ins.
And of all the different lines of toys I buy MPs are the only ones I make it a point to keep the boxes.
>>

>>

While I like the G1 aesthetic to some extent I don't like how MPs and other animation model accurate toys look.
3P figures on the other hand suffer from super sci-fi totally in cereal serious greebly designs or have absolutely fucking retarded engineering decisions. I've seen the transformation scheme of pic related and it's almost as much of a disgrace as Apollyon's wire tray.

The bayformer MPs look cool and I want the 3P Vehicon generals, though.

What does banning third party products have to do with a customization class? Botcon continued to have the class long well after the ban. The two things have nothing to do with each other.

That said, the Botcon customization class seemed like a lot of work I which kinda doubt Hasbro will be willing to put in for their new convention.

>>
>>6216315

>>6216412
But this is definitely not the way to go. It looks bad, and like people have said, it's Shapeways. So the finish is going to be shitty.

What we need is a Perfect Effect add on kit. Completely new head, a better cannon, maybe some thigh fillers and arm fillers with a fold out panel for the fists. Some shoulder replacements would be good too.

Got a pleasant surprise when I got home from work today. I had been so caught up in Titans that I forgot he had shipped.

He's pretty stellar, all things considered. I skipped over the Inferno mold, so this is my first experience. The yellow/orange paint is very appealing. Good coverage, all things considered. There is a lot of paint-on-paint rubbing going on during posing and transformation, but so far nothing major. I do have some of the gray paint on the back of his thigh flaking a bit, but I think it was actually like that from the factory. I'll see if it gets worse. Some of his back panels hinder his thigh movement a bit, but nothing horrific.

His transformation is super-clever, and pretty involved. We seem to be getting more complex in the recent releases. I'm just minorly annoyed because a lot of this complexity is to achieve cartoon accuracy, which I think is a mistake. I liked the old cartoon/toy hybrid aesthetic the MP line had. This is the first MP in a long while that I haven't felt comfortable Transforming myself after the first time. Need to do a few more practice runs before it's committed to memory. It's fun, but very involved.

All the accessories are nice. The bland cartoon alt. bumper I will never use is a bit of a waste, in my opinion. The figure doesn't really look bland in person as long as you use the chrome bumper. The flat gray one looks like crap. The alternate faces are really nice. That's one thing I wish older MPs had come with. Really gives them some oomph. I like the black, toy-accurate helmet to break up the yellow, but also prefer the chunkiness of the yellow helmet, which is a bit bigger. The cartoon-accurate gun is bland as shit, though. I mean, fuck, the original G1 gun almost has more detail on it.

So overall, despite some flaws, I like this guy. If you're still holding off, the Artfire mold will definitely be worth it, but if you have room in your heart for an adorable chubster of an architect-bot, Grapple hits the spot.

Although generations Grapple is still good enough for me, I just wish he didn't look so grumpy.

Dunno. Maybe? They were some of the first, and therefore some of the most desirable, since the authentic ones went out of production that much sooner, too.

Did Clampdown ever get KO'd? Theres a dude selling them on ebay for 65 bucks shipped, which seems like a good price for authentic, anyway.

Masterpiece are pretty hit and miss dude. Just because they are marketed as the top of the line, doesn't mean they are. Masterpiece Bumblebee is far from the best Bumblebee, for example.

I strongly disagree. I know people are salty over his wrists not moving, but given the superior articulation he has a literally every other joint, plus his overall higher quality compared to every other Bee in existence, I don't see how you can let one hang-up make the figure considered "far from the best".

You just don't know what you're talking about, and the way you're being pigheaded about it makes me think you fucked yourself with your material/model detail combo and won't admit it was mostly your fault.

There's higher resolution 3D printers and mediums, just like there's higher resolution 2D printers. What you're insisting is the equivalent of saying that all printed photos are shit because you bought a low-dpi inkjet and regular printer paper to print a 1080p photo.
>>
>>6216667
>Masterpiece Bumblebee is far from the best Bumblebee, for example
I dunno, man. Pretty much every little flaw people point out in MP Bee is also present in any other G1 Bee, often to a much greater degree. The biggest thing people bitch about with MP Bee is the price, but those are people who just can't into importing, and also don't understand how currency conversion and licensing works.
>>
>>6216673
I wouldn't mind MP bee if he weren't hilariously overpriced. I like the toy but it's not worth 50$.

And his arms are shitty, the kibble could have easily be moved to his backpack and the hand holes could have been covered or on the bottom of the arm rather than the top. I don't mind issues like this on MPs when it's clear they had no other option but it's really not the case here.
>>
>>6216177
was wondering the same thing myself anon, mine as well. yours get the floppy legs? I used some of the wife's clear nail polish in the hip slider
>>
It never ends, does it?

The hunger for new toys, but the underwhelming feel when you finally get them, and then the hunger for more.

And I feel like I've already got my perfect transformer. But that doesn't help. I just keep looking for more to buy, in hopes of recapturing that feeling when I first got "the perfect one", and more often than not, the new toys just fail to measure up.

I was super hyped for Wolfwire and Triggerhappy, but now that I own both, I find myself messing with my older toys more any way.

I feel like Voyager Scorn might end up the same way. Nothing can kill my hype for leader Megs though. That thing is beautiful.

I dunno, it kind of ended for me. I was in an initial frenzy buying all the ones I wanted like springer/sandstorm/etc, mostly MP/KOs and 3P stuff to stand in for all the diecast metal matchbox cars I played with as a kid, and a complete line of bikebots like first edition arcee and the RTS junkions.

Then it expanded to interesting figures that really pulled me in like RTS Lugnut. Now it's just skulking around ebay for stragglers that I missed when they first came out (or that I'm only just realizing exist), and browsing the 3P thread to see new things that might push all the right buttons (like that Susanoo figure, never put down a PO faster).

Other than maybe some beast machines, I'm happy with my collection. I've found that new waves don't really interest me very much. Even some of the good 3P stuff I look at and say 'yes that looks nice, but will I play with it enough to justify purchasing it?' the answer is invariably 'no'.

Because
A) I like paying the actual owners of a property for their work, since it's the characters I enjoy that make me want to buy the toy
B) I like being able to obtain all the figures I want without breaking the bank. I want a team of wreckers? Sure, I can build that and spend maybe 120 on it. Or third party and spend 600 dollars on it.
C) QC issues of hasbro are related to mass production 9/10 but QC issues from 3rd party are poor design.
D) Most of the time I personally think the official versions look better than the 3rd party.

Looks like a reseal job. There should be tape on the sides and you can see where air got stuck in the reseal job in the second pick. Factory seals can't do that. It wither botches it completely or there is no air in the seal.

I'm pretty sure I've gotten sealed figures with shitty tape. They're probably sealed by a factory worker, not a machine.

Besides, someone else said they found this new variant at one of their local stores. Unless someone's got a case of Legends Chromedome and they're going around swapping heads for shits and giggles, it's probably legit.

I posted them but sadly I don't own him yet, I do own inferno though.

Many sections are painted but apart from sections which clip together (which you don't see once in either mode) nothing is affected.

I also own ratchet and I say inferno came off as safer, that said I don't ham hand my figures so I saw little worry with either vanette or firetruck mold.

>>6217176
But of course.

Way I see mp's as not so much toys, you only transform them once or twice to get that nostalgia (I do them blind mind you, I've learnt to be cautious) and pose/leave in alt mode, and no matter what they do we won't be happy, look at mp shockwave, being toy accurate would of been easier but being anime accurate needs paint, only the diecast sections approximate the show colors properly IMO.

I know the feeling, I'm still waiting on my hasbro asia version and my retailer is so backlogged I'm still waiting on an mp primal.

Damnit pc collectables I have the money but you got nothing.

MP Inferno and his reuses are seriously some of the best official transformers we've ever had, but I don't care much for the complete lack of vehicle mode details beyond the cabin. I would have appreciated some more molded detail along the side and some proper tail lights at the back.

I'm all for reimagining new takes on characters if they're cool stuff like that.
>>
I kind of wonder if the current designers hate monsterbots or something. I genuinely can't think of a single proper monster bot outside of the original G1s
>>
>>6217400
Yeah, I always liked Abominus' bio but his G1 toy was a bit...generic. Granted G1 was before my time but looking back he's a bit "eh" for such a cool sounding concept. It'd be easy to do the digitigrade legs too- assuming they were CW style, just have them in their "arm configuration" to give the extra joint.
>>
>>6217379
It has always annoyed me how most combiners are just a big guy made of smaller guys and nothing more.
It was fine for Devastator since it was the first and IIRC he is still the physically strongest combiner and Menasor's limbs don't work as anything but limbs because cars, but I have no idea if Superion can do anything in particular beyond being a more functional giant with retard strength and I guess Defensor has his shield and his combination disrupter gun so he can at least defend everything.

I think that's why I like Bruticus and Computron over the others. Even if not official, they feel and look like they can do more than just be a big guy made of smaller guys.
>>
>>6217404
Its just hard to fit them in since things tend to jump back to basics every few years to "cars and jets". Going on the previous Kenner mention, the best time to have brought them back would've been around the Beast era.

>>
>>6217409
Agreed. I like Piranacon because he has the Targetmaster gimmick- he's like a walking artillery section. Then there's Monstructor who's less a standard combiner and more an eldritch abomination who possesses the bodies of 6 normal Transformers (though I always thought the actual combined form was pretty goofy). Cool things like that made all the difference IMO.

I get what you mean, and even after I posted Ripclaw I got to thinking about if there was a distinction to be made between 'monsterbot' and 'beastformer', the latter being what I'd call Ripclaw. If there's any difference at all it's in beastformers having a somewhat more organic look like the transmetals, without being full-on blocky robot animals like the G1 monsterbots.
To that point, a Generations version of Ripclaw done in that blocky style like the Terrorcons/Predicons would be pretty sweet.

>>6217435
The big dumb tail takes some getting used to, and you'll either love or hate the marbled look of the green plastic, but personally I like her. Dragon-mode has weird legs but overall she's pretty expressive, and I like the robot mode for always looking like a fucking demon in whatever pose she's in.
>>
Why people don't like Beast TFs?
As someone who loves animals,BW was the heaven for me.I rememeber playing with my Primal figure and my dog in the backyard.
>>
>>6217461

Speaking as someone who grew up with with TF's in the 80's, beast stuff usually doesn't "fit" too well, in terms of aesthetic, with anything else. BW was trying to do 90's EXTREEEEME mutant weird shit with the toys. Also TF's already had beast bots in the past, and they were big ol' metal animals. Plus they stole the Predacon team name for an entire faction.

The actual engineering of them is what led to modern day TF's though. They tried a lot of different things with the line, some good, some horrendously terrible (damn near everything was a fucking shellformer), it was very experimental for them, and without it we wouldn't have modern day TF's.

That said, I do like the BW series, but unless it's an MP I'll probably never touch a BW figure because they just can't be done well without being a high cost collector only figure.
>>

>>
>>6217474

>>
>>6217440
My ideal format would be one where we go from theme-to-theme every few years, like how Sentai does it. A year or two of a regular beast theme, a few years of realistic cars, a few years of futuristic vehicles, some mythical vehicles, with some blending themes thrown in(like vehicles vs beasts, or dragons vs knights, etc.)

>>
>>6217474
>some horrendously terrible (damn near everything was a fucking shellformer)

Bullshit. People take some early basics and some Japanese-only stuff as representing the whole line. The only way everything was a shellformer is if you make your definition of shellformer so vague as to include most vehicle stuff, too. Are the G1 Datsuns shellformers because a lot of them have hoods and wings hanging off them? Or is it just part of the look?

Its a silly criticism, along with the "stand up to transform" thing, when half the line was bugs.

Honestly Animated was really cool apart from the aesthetic. Derek J Wyatt's style just doesn't sit well with me, like a sloppier Bruce Timm. The animation was also pretty weak. The lack of decent lip sync was just a constant bother and the stiff animations looked terrible and jittery. They do the same shit with the new TMNT and RiD15 and it still looks lazy and spastic.

Plus few of the vehicles looked any good, with a huge boon for for figures where that's half the appeal. I really want to like it, but for the design ideas, the execution is just too weak. Animated needs a reboot in generations style and it would unquestionably be the best Transformers media ever.

The same reason as always they probably didn't think it would make bank. They had some really good ideas for sets (including a Turbomaste one use Prime figures) that have never gotten implemented largely on lower expected profit margins.

Loved them even though they were goofy shit for the humans. The andalites were top-notch though, as were most of the Mutants(never got Soundwave because GPS). Just bought a Taxxon, pic related, stupid price of 100 bucks new in box but hopefully it's as fun as it looks, the non-humans were great. Whenever I get my hands on it, if it turns out not shit, I'll be sure to take some pics of the bastard.
>>
>>6217630
>as were most of the Mutants
I lost my Soundwave to GPS. Now he's permanently a bat. I never got the owl/polar bear one though, I should look into that.
>>
>>6217630
I really wish someone would just go ahead and make an articulated Andalite figure of any kind, I have the Ax from this line, but I want any sort of high quality representation of the species on my shelf, they're too cool not to have a toy of some kind.
>>
>>6217250
That head would have been trashed in production.

Icebird's kind of the weakest of the three I have, but he's still fun. Mostly just the weird beak-gimmick he has. He's also the only one whose 'robot' head doesn't disappear back into hiding when you let go of the figure.
>>6217632
Frankly, despite the tail, Ax's figure is probably the best we'd get, mass-retail wise. It's a shame Applegate couldn't keep her shit together story-wise, she made the species really goddamn interesting in the early books. Still burned by Everworld.

I liked it, but then I haven't re-read it since I was 15 so I might be viewing through nostalgiagoggles. If you got down to it though I'm sure it wouldn't be impossible to at least make a custom if there's some sort of articulated horse figure out there, I even made my own (terrible) miniatures as a kid using dollar store plastic coyboy/indian figures and generous blue paint.

I loved my voyager Visser Three and Ax.

Visser Three especially was one of my most played with toys.

Everworld was good, the problem was that it just stopped. Yay, we defeated the witch! If you were more interested in the story of the god-eating alien god, or the introduction of modern technology and ideas to the fantasy world, go fuck yourself, series over.

A fair complaint, especially since the alien eating one of the gods was such a brutal moment in a series of brutal moments, then never really gets followed up on. I wonder how much of Everworld was ghostwritten compared to Animorphs, if it had continued it might have gotten worse before petering out.

That's the other thing, I still hated that 'and they just abandoned everything and never tried to go home' ending they got. I'm just damn glad that I read Everworld to the end so I was more than prepared to drop series after when they turned to shit.

Theres a reason why they're all based in China, it's because China basically has no IP laws worth shit and it's hard to enforce.
>>
>>6218129
totally legal

1) since the manufacturing base in a country with loose patent and trademark laws that are virtually unenforceable anyways.

2) Hasbro doesn't choose to pursue legal action otherwise they could go after the design and management team that are spread out across the world.
>>
>>6218129

China basically doesn't give a fuck about intellectual property and a lawsuit is far too expensive and costly to pursue when the chinks can dissolve and rebrand before they suffer a loss.

Basically if the symbols and names are different Takara doesn't give a fuck.
>>
>>6218140
Then Hasbro/Takara could easily go after the companies themselves. For example MT clearly is based in Japan. but Hasbro/Takara has never demonstrated any interest in that.
>>
>>6217566
i'm still salty over the soft rubber use for the hands on rts lockdown

>>
>>6218129
there's basically nothing illegal about it.

If the branding is distinct enough then the only case they could really have is with likenesses, but most 3Ps differentiate themselves enough from official products to avoid this.

Companies based in the US and most western countries would just be sued by Hasbro until they can't afford to go to court anymore though.

This. I watched Animated for the first time a couple of years ago. So much fun. Almost as good as Beast Wars, but the writing and character interaction there was better.

I suppose Prime gets a "Meh", and G1 gets a "good for nostalgia only". Although the movie alone is pretty fantastic. RiD can bring up the rear. I could barely get through the first few episodes.

Not sure if this has been discussed already, because I skipped Inferno, but... does anyone know the purpose of this dislocating fender on the front of Grapple? I don't see it getting moved in any of the steps in the instructions, and none of the box art shows it in the dislocated position. Moving it doesn't seem to offer any advantage during transformation, since it actually reduces clearance in the wheel well.

>>6218524
It's just to fill in some of the space left by the wheel moving back in robot mode
