Does anyone have the joyride warthog, or any other vehicles I suppose, and can you fit regular gi joe/acid rain figures into them?

Pics would be awesome but obviously not needed.

Jada made a Warthog that's 1:18 scale.
It's the 14" one, but they added monstertruck wheels to it that makes it look overly large.

Everything is perfectly to scale with 1:18 figures though and has plenty of legroom.
I have this and i love it.

Apparently Marauder has dropped word that they may be working on a WWII series.
>>
>>6211540
Neat.

Figures or weapons? Link?
>>
>>6211562
Both. They mentioned it in a Facebook post.

"If we are working on a large project, we will make our intentions known early in the process. Here is the "official" notice that we are planning a World War 2 series of figures and weapons. More details to follow, but now we are on record so if others annonce similar projects, our project is not a surprise. ;-) MJ"

They already have most of the common German small-arms covered, so there's not a whole they need to do/redo there. I hope for fallschirmjaeger, and Reds, but we'll probably need to sit through regular 'ol infantry first.

That picture isn't mine.

And i bought mine when it first came out, so they were very easy to find back then. For both the Jada warthog and those Joes.

Various keywords to find the Jada vehicle: 14 inch, diecast, jada, warthog, halo

I've seen it at conventions and it doesn't seem to go for above retail price either, so it seems to be common. They sold a weathered matte one as well

>>
>>6216530
OK? You're a weird guy, friendo. I've never posted about scale in the ML thread and that's why I'm posting about these. In a 1/18th thread. Because they're 1/18th figures. You're the one shitting up the thread.

I want fantasy figures and was OK with the larger Mythic Legions ones, but since these are looking good, I'd rather get these than a bunch of them.

Although, I'm not sure why I'm even responding to your bait. Oh well.
>>
>>6216314
Yeah, I kind of wish they'd done the non-D&D line first, but I also realize that most of the point of the Greeks was to establish the bucks and the relationship with the factory.

Every additional theme they expand into is going to require more unique tooling, but having the manufacturing base in place means that they can replace arms/legs/torsos as needed and start doing variants based on more than just armor and paint variation.
>>
>>6216530
Not him but.. you just come in this general to brag to another scale and then pointing finger to others to do the same...?
You ar ethe worst. Pls remain in your containment general.
>>
>>6216314
Honest question, why do you think it is an huge improvement?
Maybe it's the colors but this figure here doesn't do anything for me. She looks a bit "off", like if something is wrong, but can't really point out what it is.
>>
>>6217144

also compared to my gorgon she seems to have a better industrial finish, we will need to wait how the real toys will look but just take a alook to the greek figures and compare.

>>
>>6230069
Yeah they're kind of aimed at the artfag toy audience more than hardcore 1:18. The figures are okay, way overpriced but cool looking. Kind of gummy, not very hard plastic.
>>
>>6230069
>> i never purchased 1:18 figs but isnt this super expensive for a figure like this?

Not for Acid Rain.
>>
>>6230170
A lot of people are going to jump down your throat for the "gummy" comment. But I have to agree. there is a certain "tacky" feeling on the surface of these guys.
Also,
I noticed the "Space Prisoner" showing up on Ebay and I don't know if this is a "fallen off the truck" issue or not. I don't really care for the "gritty" look on the face paint.
>>
This is kind of a weird thing I've been mulling over for a while. Do you guys think the old GI Joe ARAH sculpts were sometimes cooler than their 25th Anniversary updates? I remember thinking so many figures looked cool as a kid, and then when I saw Hasbro's new modern remakes I was just bored or unimpressed.
>>
>>6230195
>Do you guys think the old GI Joe ARAH sculpts were sometimes cooler than their 25th Anniversary updates?

Well, yeah, the modern line is mostly repaints of the same handful of bucks, with the classic details frequently being secondaries instead of figure specific molding.

The fact that bar a handful of exceptions, most of the ARAH figures after the first year were original molds built off a single skeletal buck means they ended up more unique and varied.

The main things the new figures have over the old ones are increased poseability thanks to ankles/wrists, improved detail (particularly in some of the face sculpts), and a much greater ability to swap accessories thanks to the vests.

The fact that 25A+ has been heavily invested in direct updates of old figures is also a strike against it, because it essentially hampered the creativity of the team, which only got to really shine with stuff like PoC, where more original designs and characters got to be brought in.

I've heard marauder gun runners' weapons can look alright with 6" toys, yea or nay? Normally I'd look elsewhere, but they've got some guns that straight up don't seem to exist in 1/12.

Yeah, 1:12 fans don't care about army building or buying weapons for their toys, so there's very little demand.

Probably because you're so used to paying $25-125 for gummy plastic figures and GI Joes cost $6-80.

In general, Ive been buying figures so long that I've come to realize it doesn't matter, except when it comes to durability. I've bought expensive shit that has come with gummy/hard plastic that breaks easily.

Personally, i find that Hasbro has the best plastic. It's inexpensive, has come in gummy and hard plastics, yet it their figures are by far the most durable toys I've ever owned.

>>
>>6237282
Is that the Super Hero Showdown figure? They're... nice to look at? Brittle as fuck though. I have Spider-Man and I literally fear touching him. I've posed him a bit, and even with gentle movement I'm concerned I'm going to ham-hand it.
>>
>>6237282
What >>6237285
said. Had a Sue Storm that looked fine until I opened the package and when I pulled her out, her leg and the balljoint for that leg was left in the box. Didn't even feel the thing snap. I've had to buy a replacement for my spidey, too, because while he's gloriously spindly in his design, the friction of the ball joint on my first was stronger than the rod holding the joint together. It's not GPS instant crumble, but it will break sooner rather than later.
>>
>>6237285
Showdown figures aren't brittle, but they will fall apart because the joints are so loose.
They're mostly ball jointed, so they can be put back together.

>>
>>6240988
Probably?
You can do it with the males. Also they just make a nice change up with the current figures. I have one of the sweet ass blue t-tops as a freebie. I mean if you want the figures to be unchanging that's cool but you might want to go for a shirt-sleeve environment for some set ups and that provides the option. It also allows for glueing on some gear (vests) and just changing torsos for different load outs. I want white ( which may be coming out) for cold weather gear and add-on winter hoods have been suggested.
>>
>>6241561
Yup. Roadblocks rides a bit high but you can dremmel the ball down a little or give him a scarf to cover that up. *Some* Star Wars heads work. With everything you have to expect a little work and that can mean expanding the hole or a touch of stick-tak as well. Some people had problems with hand swaps on the Valks but mine were fine. I haven't tried Joe hands and vice-versa though. I may as I have 2 Joes who currently are missing a hand each.

Anyone got a clue about what this year's Joecon theme is going to be?

Python Patrol? Iron Grenadiers? Some random theme from the the 80s cartoon (like Pyramid of Darkness themed sets)? Or will they finally break down and do Cobra La?
>>
>>6246108
Most likely Python Patrol. They have new molds for Vipers and Cobra Troopers to play with, not to mention that we STILL don't have Python Patrol versions of the Cobra Command leadership cast (CC, Baroness, Storm Shadow, Destro, Major Blood, etc)
>>
>>6246111
Iron Grenadiers would be better. We still haven't been able to secure a proper Iron Grenadier army building box set, Ahilliators were given a horrible redesign by the club, and Metal Head needs to be re-released due to the fact that he was scalped to hell and back and is up there with Dial Tone, Footloose, etc in terms of key characters that goes for $200-400 on the secondary market.

Also, it could tie into the idea of doing a cartoon themed box set: DIC Copperhead (different mask which covers all of the face), DIC colors Zarana, Captain fucking Gridiron, Rocketeer version of Hawk, and other Battle Corps repaints of existing name characters

No, Low light or night viper alone and loose cost like $20. But loose figures sometimes are cheaper.

Yes, like this anon said >>6247728 easier to find, reasonable price, good selection of characters and designs, the only minor problem is that some waves have awful paint jobs on the face, Pursuit of Cobra and 30th Anivversary lines are great too, but the best figures are scalped to hell.

Marauder has a selection of both male and female character heads as well as the "mix and match" feature for a lot of customization but they are also "Joe Friendly" and do pretty well for mods and modern versions of characters.
They have actually strived to keep basic figures as army builders and allow the customer to "make the characters into characters."
It woudl be nice to see a couple of "hero" figures down the road though.
I myself is waiting for a lull in sales so they can stock up. (warning to first time browsers on their site. - If it's sold out you won't find it.)

>What companies do you guys suggest? Boss fight studios seem to be pretty cool from what I've seen

Boss Fight Studios is comprised of people who were responsible for G.I. Joe's sculpting during some of the brand's later (and best) years and were also hired-out to do the sculpting on Marauder's figures and newer accessories. They're also doing sculpting on FreshMonkeyFiction's Eagle Force Returns line, the (somewhat controversial) Dime Novel Legends Kickstarter and an upcoming zombie themed Kickstarter. Meanwhile they're still doing sculpting for the Collector's Club.

They all have some differences in construction and the way they're jointed but they're all pretty compatible (as much as actual G.I. Joes are compatible to one another) because they're all designed and sculpted by the same folks.

Apart from Acid Rain and all the stuff Boss Fight is doing there's also Hiya Toys, which has the 1:18 license for Aliens and Predator, and the Hellscreamerz Kickstarter. If you don't mind the cartoony aspect there's The Corps from Lanard. Their figures are mostly shit but the chunky plastic vehicles have an early 2000's Joe vs Cobra feel.

For vehicles and things like watchtowers there's World Peacekeepers sold at discount places like Big Lots, and a lot of the Chap Mei stuff (like their animals) scales well with 1:18 despite the figures being old Kenner-style. Most Chap Mei stuff can be found at Toys R Us under various labels like Animal Planet.

They've been saying this for years going back to the first film and look what the movies have done for the brand. It's practically dead.

>Among the ideas they came up with were a “G.I. Joe” film set in World War II and a new version of M.A.S.K., the 1980s-era secret-agent series, that doesn’t feature the adult superspies seen in the cartoons but rather a multicultural group of youths in Detroit who come upon “magic technology” similar to what fans may remember. “That’s a story relevant for today, but if you remember the cartoon or the toy, we trigger your memory and you take a look,” Lead Writer Akiva Goldsman said

The movies were successful though.
They made more than 2x their money back, which would including marketting too.

I think what they're really missing out on is a video game franchise, which for whatever reasons, Hasbro doesn't want to do, despite the success of other military VG series (CoD, Halo, etc) in the toy market.
>>
>>6249530
The movies were moderately successful, enough to warrant a sequel and "maybe another one if The Rock can be bothered to get around to it".

But the brand as a whole suffered. Retailers ordered huge amounts of the original movie line and then had to extend the $5 sale price permanently before clearancing them; later waves were dumped to Ross outlets and Hasbro had to revamp the planned Pursuit of Cobra movie followup by disassociating it with the film just to get retailers to carry it.

Then after PoC there was the whole debacle with the Retaliation release being rescheduled, and the first waves stagnating. So the brand's gone from being carried at all major retailers to being a Toys R Us exclusive post-Retaliation. As much as I hate the Transformers movies you don't see that brand getting dumped by retailers after the films.
>>
>>6249449
I think this clusterfuck "shared universe" is a huge mistake. So would a G.I.Joe Babies crammed with sullen tatted and pierced millennials.
>>
>>6249540

>>
>>6249573
You can't buy them at any major retailers right now even in the U.S.

Toys R Us only ordered enough of the 50th line for it to basically be a holidays "one and done" this time. They've been gone for months.
>>
>>6249530
I think they should stop fucking around the bush and market these at adults since kids today are stupid.

Give me what they did for the 1/6 crowd in the early 2000's: multiple action figures of soldiers from different eras and theaters with lots of accesories.
>>
>>>6249540 As much as I hate the Transformers movies you don't see that brand getting dumped by retailers after the films.
Yeah, but retailers continued ordering GI Joes after the first movie. It got rebranded because Hasbro didn't think it was worth it to keep using Paramount's royalties, but retailers continued ordering GI Joe products because they still sold.
GI Joe 2 being rescheduled and being stuck with the product for a year without any support is what killed it in retailers eyes. Movie lines are sold mostly through the recognition of the characters, and because GI Joe 2 pretty much was a redo with a whole new set of characters, both fans and casualswhobuymovieshit weren't buying up toys of characters they were familiar with. So that shit stuck around for an entire year, if stores even bothered to stock up after wave 2.
I know my local Targets stopped ordering stuff despite empty shelfs after two months, so wave 2.5 never happened for me.

Transformers got support because none of their movies ever got delayed. If there was a year from release of the toys to the release of the movie, you can bet your ass retailers would be soured and fans/casuals not buying the mess of characters no one knows.

>>6249578

I enjoy my army men with a twist of scifi and fantasy. No Adventure/Safari/IndianaJones shit, plz.
>>
>>6249233
They tried that.

Girl Dial Tone, Arab Breaker, Black Ripcord were basically shitted on so badly, the later two didn't even get invited back to do the GI Joe sequel

Also, SJW race bending basically rendered the entire MASK revival part of the Hasbro/IDW Shared Universe dead on arrival in terms of that bullshit (Matt Tracker is now black, Sly Rax is both Asian and clean shaved, Gloria is Hispanic and to add injury to insult, they jetisoned ALL of the minority characters in MASK save for Julio.

The only thing, the ONLY thing that didn't get fucked over was Miles Mayhem but even then Miles is now an ex-GI Joe member (from the 60s) and is the default Big Bad of the Hasbro Shared Universe, because IDW turned all of the Decepticons good and scorched earth Cobra so badly that they can't bring it back without serious backpeddling they don't want to do out of spite
>>
>>6250050

Yeah; what they did to M.A.S.K was a crime against humanity.

The franchise was already SJW friendly and yet they purposely salted the earth for no good reason except because they could.

Ironically the whole "Miles is a former GI Joe who specialized wetworks shit and other war crimes stuff, gone rogue" thing is a pretty clever way to reinvent Miles and give him a major boost in credibility. But everything else renders the revival so beyond the pale, such an insult for fans who've been waiting for a revival for ages, that it can't salvage the reboot.
>>
>>6249970
>but retailers continued ordering GI Joe products because they still sold.

They dumped the Sand Serpent and the last vehicle sets along with the Target exclusives at outlet stores. They stopped putting Rise of Cobra merchandise on shelves and wouldn't carry any more movie-related stuff until Retalliation.

Hasbro already had a chunk of Pursuit of Cobra merchandise in production when retailers pulled the plug and refused more movie-related merch and forced them to revamp, which is why PoC Zartans with Arnold Vosloo's likeness and the like were available on ebay for years.

PoC sold alright at normal prices despite the Destro shelfwarmers so they carried Retaliation, but it sold for shit, which is why most people had to buy the later waves from online retailers and brick-and-mortar stores stopped carrying the brand altogether.

I don't remember this.
My WalMarts had an end cap of Rise of Cobra figures during Christmas and those small box sets for full price at full price.
Then in ~late spring/summer they started carrying the Pursuit of Cobra figures. Same with Target. It took a while to get these, because of them changing the name, but what matters is that these stores continued ordering GI Joes.

All clearance stuff happened in January/February, which is pretty normal when no new product is being released and all you have are girl figures. Snake Eyes also got clearanced, like bumblebees, but he actually went fast.

You want to pretend that the SKU/title change fools these companies like they're shitty AIs, but if GI Joe really was such a poor seller like you're implying, big box retailers wouldn't carry it regardless.

GI Joe going more leftist

>Mediocre news for fans of GI Joe! Hasbro is planning to reboot the franchise as part of their goal of creating a Marvel-like shared universe with all of their toy and game properties, according to a profile in the LA Times. Sadly, the company has failed to learn any good lessons from the middling performance of the last two GI Joe films, which took the campy 1980s cartoon and turned it into a boring, modernized generic action flick with heavy helpings of military porn. The solution, according to Hasbro: attempt to modernize it again, this time with a “millennial approach.”

>“The world has changed, and I think you’re going to see GI Joe changing with it,” said Hasbro exec and person with a name that would fit perfectly in a 1980s British arena rock band Simon Waters. “There’s going to be a much more contemporary approach to the whole franchise, and that will allow us to develop different characters.”

https://www.bleedingcool.com/2017/03/28/hasbro-planning-gi-joe-reboot-millennial-approach-still-doesnt-understand-franchises-core-appeal/

The comic already has Salvo turned into a fat brown woman. The writer is an SJW who has said guns scare him and that politics and "diversity" will be big in his run.

From an interview with the writer:

>SITTERSON: Exceptionally frequently and exceptionally heavily. Especially given the current geopolitical climate, with the rise of multiple ethnonationalist movements, the troubling militarization of the police and our own president-elect threatening to start a new nuclear arms race. This was something that was very much on my mind, and there were a couple decisions made as a direct result of it. The first is moving G.I. Joe away from being strictly an American team. The Decepticon Skywarp is our first non-American team member, but there are already more in the works – human ones from real world countries. The other change is our choice to have the Joes use lasers. Not only is it a nice nod to the Sunbow cartoon series (which is where Giannis and I first fell in love with Joe), but it avoids the more ugly aspects of the concept. To me, there’s something grim about putting heavy-duty, real-world weaponry in the hands of these heroic characters. Our Joes prefer to solve problems without brutality, and they’re talented and well-trained enough to manage it. I actually think that G.I. Joe can do a lot more good in another way, by embracing what has always made the series great, going all the way back to the cartoon series, where people of all genders, races, and ethnicities willingly came together to accomplish a goal.
