Got my order in for one Zaku Cannon earlier this week! How many did you grab? I tossed in a set of super parts for a DX Chogokin VF-31J too, as I managed to snag one over at HLJ.

Don't particularly like the VF-31's super parts, but with how past DX super parts have sold I figure it's better to jump in now, rather than pass and regret it after the price triples.

>did anyone else notice the preorders are still up for the prototype Dom and Gouf on Nippon yasan?
I think NY almost always tends to order a little extra when it comes to exclusives, primarily so they can sell then for a massive upcharge once they're released, but as a side benefit it lets them keep preorders open a bit longer.

>>6190237
Ahhh, good catch anon, I didn't even think of that. Char's still got that rad muzzle flash effect going for him, though! But I must say, I really, really wish they had simply included that effect with every Zaku release.

Really love all the tampo detail on Dougram, and the modelling of the cockpit is awesome. Out of curiousity, what's the diecast content like on him?
>>
>>6190703
My nitpick is every time the Dougram gets hit Crinn screams as if someone is poking him with a hot rod. You're in a giant robot dude, you're not being hurt yourself, chill out.

Although really thats more of an issue with the mecha genre as a whole

>>6190843
The blue parts of the feet, back of the knees, and lower part of the torso are all diecast. It gives it a really nice weight and balance. Let's me do things like that running pose from the last thread without having it fall down.

Whoa, that is a hefty amount of diecast, especially considering how sparsely it's been used on other Hi-Metals. Thanks for the info, anon!

>Although really thats more of an issue with the mecha genre as a whole

That's one of my biggest gripes about the genre as well! Like every time an enemy ace is chasing down some grunt, the grunt is screaming his head off while being chased (recent Macross series are particularly bad about this). I get it, the grunt's just cannon fodder and they're trying to show how terrifying the enemy is, but come on man, maybe if you focused on your piloting you'd actually survive!

That's one of the things that made the Stark Jegan pilot in the first episode of Gundam Unicorn so rad; no complaints even when faced with a swarm of funnels, just charged straight in. And when he did get whacked, the only thing we hear from him is his dying thought cursing the Sleeves, haha.

>>
And by "back of the knee" I mean that whole blue quad area. The round parts are diecast and the flat parts are plastic. It does seem to have quite a bit, although I don't have anything to compare it to, this is my first Hi-Metal
>>
>>6190698

What I like the most about Dougram is while the main char may be a teen, he's not a whiny emo bitch and he actually gets shit done. Crinn would beat the living shit out of amuro/benagher/Kamille and the like.
>>
>>6190796
Oh shit , I didn't even realize until now but both the linear gun and the linear cannon slide back to simulate recoil. This thing is full of surprises.

It's definitely a good amount. In contrast, the only sizeable metal parts on the Hi-Metal VF-1s are the feet (there's a tiny amount to reinforce a few of the joints, as well).

Awesome about the recoil effect too!

>>6194486
Man, thinking it over, I'll probably pass on the reactive armor then and put that money towards the SV-51 instead.

>>6196636
Haha, I've had that happen too. Ordered something off one of the stores, then before I got the payment request, SAHA stocked the same item at a lower price. Since you pay immediately for SAHA purchases, I was able to use that as my excuse when I asked Mandy to cancel my earlier order, haha. They're pretty cool about cancelling orders as long as you contact them about it (rather than letting the payment link just expire), so don't be afraid to go that route if ya need to.

Grats on snagging the Zaku, btw! Hope you're able to secure the cheaper one.

Just got mine early last week! It's honestly hard to keep myself from wanting a second one to show off the optional equipment like the alternate head or the hip-mounted missile launchers. But I absolutely love the figure, and I can't wait to team it up with a Zaku Cannon in the future.

>>6190793
>Got my order in for one Zaku Cannon earlier this week!
I would like to preorder one, but I don't have the funds to pay for the preorder right away like Nippon Yasan requires, so I may just wait until they pop up on Mandarake.

Also, nice shot of the standard Zaku II. I can't wait to get one of them eventually, too! I'm curious if the missile effects that come with it will be compatible with the Zaku Cannon's missile launchers, 'cause that would be great!

Man, this A.N.I.M.E. line is really hard to resist. I can't wait to see more like a Gelgoog or other MSV designs!

Nice! Welcome to the desert crew, haha. Sweet posing with the grenade too! And yeah, it is seriously gonna look so rad paired up with the Zaku Cannon.

I've generally been avoiding preordering at NY too. Not a big fan of their customer service, I feel their shipping rates are pretty poor, and then the prepayment thing as you mentioned. But with how the Desert Zaku immediately got bumped above MSRP after release, the relatively strong USD last week, plus my need for the VF-31 super parts, it was kinda the perfect storm for preordering, haha.

You'll love the standard Zaku! Definitely a must-buy. I hadn't even considered the compatibility of its missile effect parts with the Zaku Cannon, but now you've got me curious as well.

>I can't wait to see more like a Gelgoog or other MSV designs!

Yeah... After overpaying for one preorder, I figured Mandarake was the way to go. But I do notice the Desert Zaku jumped in price, so i'll probably try to place a preorder soon.

>Sweet posing with the grenade too!
Thanks! Yeah I kinda like the grenades better than the missile launchers.

And I seriously want a Zaku II right now, but I'll be getting a FA Gundam soon as a gift. So I'll hold out til May for a Zaku II.

>>
>>6202462
No, but I've had some issues with paint chipping off in the past, and I've been wondering if topcoat or something similar could prevent that at all. Most notably my Arbalest's light blue paint on the shoulders and my A.N.I.M.E. Gundam's white paint under the crotch have both seen some significant paint loss...

I have been looking into this myself, I was planing on doing some panel lining/subtle weathing/decaling and sealing it with a matte topcoat. I was unsure what would be the best because topcoats are usually done over painted surfaces ala gunpla.

What I found was this stuff seems to be the best for unpainted surfaces. I have not bought any or used it yet, but it gives a nice matte finish for people who have used it on their RDs. The down side is you have to use ventilation when using it, it is very bad stuff for your lungs.

Nothing was promised tho.

It's not like they'd be able to do the designs justice anyway. If even Volks can't get the feel right in their plastic kits, then what hope does TN have?
>>
>>6202531
>If even Volks can't get the feel right in their plastic kits

I dunno most of the FSS kits I see look pretty awesome.
>>
>>6202645
The IMS kits lack many subtleties due to being designed with CAD. Stuff like >>6202466 is sculpted by hand.
>>
>>6202667

I would still buy damashiis of every single FSS design even if the "subtleties" were lost
>>
>>6202669
Oh, I would too, but they absolutely wouldn't be a replacement for GKs. Mortar Headds are the most beautiful and well-thought-out robot designs out there, they deserve top tier representation. Articulation and computer design would get in the way of that.

Anon, the Volks sculpts are like 99% the same as their resin counterparts. Can you tell if this is plastic or resin?

The only gripe I've heard with Volks kits is that the engineering is awful and you need to paint, and this is with all their kits, not just the FSS ones. Bandai could do way better.

Forget RD though, what we need are some SoC's.
>>
>>6202819
That 1% matters.

>Can you tell if this is plastic or resin?
I already know it's the IMS. But even if I didn't, you can easily tell it's not hand sculpted because the shins are too "perfect".

>the engineering is awful
It's not fantastic, but it's not -awful-.

Some of the earlier ones had issues like orange peel on bare plastic and fine detail parts being gummy looking, though. Haven't heard of any such issues on LED and Terror.

>you need to paint
They're model kits, dum dum. Don't forget they need glue as well! How horrifying!

>Bandai could do way better.
You know they would tinker with the designs. And not for the better.

>what we need are some SoC's

>>
>>6202978
It's early as fuck, but I honestly believe that by the end of the year the Dougram will be in consideration for figure of the year. It has so many genius design elements, like certain aspects of the head and how Crinn fits into it, and the thigh joints.

The shins are the same as the resin kit, anon. In fact the only big difference between the two are the joints, which are all covered up anyway.

My point about the engineering in Volks kits is that compared to Bandai kits it's awful. Stuff like IMS A-Toll's shoulder connectors being made of nothing but polycap material with no plastic reinforcement and ripping just from the assembly (some anon on /m/ had a field day with this). It doesn't matter if this is a Gundam or MH, that's bad design period. Bandai is far more experienced than Volks when it comes to both toys and models, so naturally, I expect them to pull it off better. Still, Volks sculpts are really hard to top- just look at Wave's garbage by comparison.

I prefer SoC because of the size. I don't want my MH to be tiny fiddly messes, I want them to be massive display pieces full of glorious engineering and detail.

Having one myself, the only two gripes I have with this near perfect figure is:

Shoulder cannon can't move side to side, even the msia version could.

Well it is 00's 10th anniversary this year and fans have been begging for some new releases. Still, it is disappointing that Bandai appears to be doing the minimum amount if effort required instead of making completely new suits from the show.

Ok guys, awhile back I got the normal versions of the Zaku and RX78-2. Just a had a little fun changing up the poses and accessories. Now I'm craving another one while I wait for RGM-79.

Im beside myself on getting Dom, Gouf, or Char's Zaku. Really digging the Dom though but Char's Zaku is pretty slick. Help!
>>
>>6204725
Char's Zaku is known for having loose/wobbly legs. The Dom and Gouf are both excellent, personally I would go with the Gouf but everyone else is gonna tell you to get the Dom. IMO you get better accessories with the Gouf but you can't really go wrong with either of those.
>>
So I missed the boat big time on the dougram and I'm trying to play catch up. Mandarake is a no-go so far, but they've also had a pretty steady supply of glaugs for sub-retail; is that normal for the line or is the dougram really just that hot? Push comes to shove, I've got an order in at amazon, but I'd rather not end up with them unless there's another choice.

Agreed. The MK-V is my favorite Gundam hands down but I am having a hard time justifying buying it again. What I am dying to know is the missile pods are going to open this time. If the ANIME sub-line can have open missile pods with effect parts, then the premium ver ka line MUST have it.

>>
>>6205053
It doesn't work like that. The little car is probably $0.5 or so. It's only there so people will think "hey it's expensive... but look it has a lot of accessories".
>>
>>6204334

>>

Not really. Bandai would rather mold a few extra pieces onto an existing figure and sell it as a new release than create an entirely new figure from scratch.

I am a full armor freak.

I got RD FA Gundam, Hi-Metal Armroed VF-1J, Chogokin DX VF-25S Armored Valkyrie and Arcadia VF-0S Armored.

I will get this FA 0 Gundam when it is 40% off due to the obsolete mould.

I think it was to be updated to fight on par with current tech but it was scrapped and never saw deployment, hence Lasse only had the naked 0 Gundam with the condensor.
>>

>>
>>6205053
I think most of the ever increasing cost of RDs is subsidizing fixed costs for stuff like molds. That would be why stuff like the Saturn is so much more expensive than the original Gundam. The Saturn will sell so many fewer units that it has to cost way more to make up the production costs that don't vary by unit produced.
>>
>>6205148
I was waiting for ssomeone to point that out. The vulcans don't fit because the two hatches for the shoulder missiles are in the way.

I think I am seeing a pattern.

Super Mini Pla Xanbungle led to Hi-Metal, because the latter sold well.

Super Mini Pla Ideon sold well and might prompt an SoC reissue.

Both Super Mini Pla Gaogaigar and Daijuujin(Dino Megazord) both released after their respective SoCs.

Now Galient Super Mini Plas have been announced, that means potential RD or Hi-Metal on the horizon. I am pretty sure the Mini Plas will sell out quick. But in general, candy toys are made in smaller quantities and also appeal to primary school/teenage consumers.

The relative size of the cop car threw me off as well, but as >>6206708 points out the command car really is a fairly small vehicle in-universe and Labors are relatively short mecha (generally around 8 meters tall, compared to Mobile Suits which are usually around 18-20 meters), so the scale is appropriate.

Here's a display video of Saturn, and a few shots have both the police and command car in-frame together (though not on the same plane):

I don't really see it. Has Tamashii even announced anything from this decade for the RD line this year yet? I'd say their focus is squarely on the 80s and some newer Gundams. Trying more 00 stuff instead of the shelf warming Seed RDs seems fairly likely to me, but who knows.

There were plans for more suits in the IBO line but after Barbatos and Kimaris bombed sales-wise, they probably hesitated to continue (a shame since they were really neat figures - Barbatos especially).

Are there any RD-like Mazins? Meaning no diecast (so no SRCs) , good articulation and high playability. The closest thing I could find was the koto Mazinkaiser kit
>>
>>6214347

Lupus is supposed to be released this year I thought? And the original figures seemed to have done just fine, of course I don't know where I would find sale data anyways.
>>
>>6214542

There's an old Revoltech that's an ok figure
>>
>>6214542
Closest to your description is the Revoltech.
>>
>>6214181

>>

>>6213532
Fuck yeah, I'm in. I've got the Gouf and RX-78 and they're pretty great for what they are.
>>
>>6214622
Who knows? All we have is a report from last year that they would be making more IBO suits but they haven't even released the first Barbatos' option parts yet, let alone showed off or announced anything from S2.

I personally think the line is on indefinite hold at the moment while they reassess how best to handle the RD releases in relation to their substantially cheaper gunpla line (because the price gap is insane).
>>
>>6214622
I'm only speculating but regarding IBO sales, it's probably doing ok (considering it hasn't gone on clearance or anything), but it's not exactly flying off the shelves as Bandai probably hopes.
>>
>>6214636
>>6214638
fug, forgot about that one. I don't hate revos but would prefer a figure with smooth joints.
I know why many Mazingers are made with diecast (chogokin coming from the show and all) just wishing there where more options without it, simple affordable action figures of one of the most famous robots doesn't seem like asking too much
>>
>>6205182
>Bandai would rather mold a few extra pieces onto an existing figure
If only they'd give us the 'wings of light' of the 0 Gundam with this release.

>>6215233

>>
>>6215233
I don't understand what Bandai's doing with MBs. It's clearly undersupplied considering they always sell out in the first second the preorders go up. Even high demand waifu statues that are made-to-order last longer than that before they decide to close orders.
>>
>>6215355
I'm more annoyed at the increase in prices with not much to show for it.
>>
So what's the difference between SRC and SoC? What do you get for the higher price point? Mainly looking at the new Mazinger
>>
>>6216681
SoC are generally bigger, have more metal content, more paint, are actually capable of transforming and usually include every accessory the mech uses. Some of the older ones, while still having impressive engineering feel really antiquated compared to SRC releases due to their age.

SRC are usually more durable and capable of more dynamic posing. They're sort of an in-between of toys like RD and big expensive collector's figures like SoC's. SoC is basically meant to be stuck on a shelf and admired, you can play around with a SRC figure a lot easier.
>>
>>6216681

SRCs dont't have transformation gimmicks and have those really, really shitty old school diecast-on-diecast joints that are no longer used on SoCs and Metal builds, because they're hot garbage and will kill your toys after a few months of light posing. Avoid them, they're overpriced trash.

The RD is based on the CG design from Frontier, but the original SDF design is very different. Much chunkier and smoother- it had real presence and a feminine touch that was missing from the Frontier version.

Just look at that picture of the Yamato toy I posted. It's old, but the sculpt was spot-on.
>>
>>6220497
>>6220470

so in other words, there's nothing wrong with the RD proportions or looks, it's just that it's different version of the Queadluun-Rau.

The RD looks like their Frontier Queadluun-Rau too.

Just the announcement from 2015 that they would put out new stuff for the new season. Which is odd considering the only non-renewal things they could do (that I can think of) would be the two Venom recolors from the final battle and the regular Shadow. The Behemoth and that aquatic AS from the Christmas novel wouldn't work very well as RDs.

I suspect the Metal Build Arbalest ended up replacing that announcement though. It wouldn't be the first time they made a text announcement of new figures for a new season of a show and never followed up either.

Could Rex, Vidar and Bael be teased in May?

Maybe it will really depend on the Gunpla sales, but given that this is S2, selling a figure after the show is aired sually fails unless there is a follow up season (s1 to s2). Cross Ange and Aldnoah Zero both failed on that account.

Oh well, I just ordered Barbatos and Kimaris from Amiami at 62% off. I just need something poseable figures with medieval weapons.

Got tired of rifles, bazookas and beam sabers. My Dunbine guys all have swords. I doubt that I will ever have the opportunity to get a figure with a mace or lance that is from a medieval combat context.

SO far, RD short term lines tend to fail and shelf warm to 50% off. They ve tried rebooting many Gundam series already.

The most successful lines are the ones with comprehensive character lineup and high production quality including: Dunbine, First Gundam anime and Patlabor.

Everything else were either just protagonists or failed.

They might have intended to bring a mixed cast like Extreme VS.
>>
>>6222079
Aside from that, older comprehensive lines include 00s2, Code Geass R2 and Gundam Wing. Maybe Fafner too as I am unfamiliar. L Gaim is also a web exclusive one.
>>
>>6222080
Gundam Wing was missing Taurus and Virgo etc, but close enough.

>>
>>6222243
I'd love a Gusion Rebake Full City.

>>
>>6222079
The pattern is that they obviously go for the protagonists. I nthe case of Dunbine, once the Zwarth was released, it opened the flood gates for more and I myself played catch up with the Dunbine and Billbine(reissues) knowing that more were coming.

I think they will go comprehensive if the non-protagonist machines are popular enough.

In the case of Wing Gundam, they had Tallgese and Epyon.

Gundam Seed did the first 5 Gundams, but latter half only had the three nuclear powered ones, no druggies as they are hideous.

Usually non-protagonists don't sell.

00s2 and Code Geass R2 had the luxury of being released when the animes were current. 00s2 also had the special case of being released in parallel with HG, very similar to when Seed Destiny aired with HG and MSiA on offer.

Nowadays, the successful lines are the ones that don't have any model kit counterpart. So that is why popular 80s real robots and 1979 First Gundam are selling well.

It is pretty amazing to see the ANIME line being so comprehensive for an action figure line, along with its MSVs.

>>
>>6222365

>>
>>6222079
I think it's a little early to decalere Patlabor to have good staying power. Let's see how things like the Saturn sell. It'll be interesting to see if stuff from Patlabor that doesn't usually get figures sells alright. Persoanlly, I can't see very many people wanting stuff like the Economy Ingrams, but Saturn and the Phantom seem potentially interesting given the lack of other options for them.

>>6222080
Fafner was far from comprehensive. They were releasing characters nobody likes (Neun and Zehn, Sechs at that point) just to reuse tooling. Some of the most popular characters (Dreizehn, Zwolf, possibly original Vier) never got made. Much less any of the tons of new stuff from Exodus or whatever we'll see in the new project.

Eligor is different than the Codarl chest and other bits have a different armor arrangement. Is not that hard to do and also it might come with three variants from Sabine,Fowler and Casper

As for Shadows they could easily repaint Kurz version, making it red add Codarl I Gatling and toss out the Zaied variant.
