I think you or someone on your side touched on that awhile back talking about minor differences in Link's design that make pretty big differences to someone who cares.

I actually really liked Other M, it had some heavy handed dialogue and NOT MUH SAMUS, but if you read the pretty decent manga it at least had some precedent (Adam not authorizing Samus to use the harmless heat shielding until after she trekked through the lava area was pretty bullshit though, but I chalk that up to seperation of gameplay and story- not very good separation, but better than randomly finding the upgrade lying around), but I still think the Other M suit is the worst design in the series and also just not very good on its own. I think a large part of what makes the Prime suit so much better is honestly just the bigger shoulder pads with the spiky things, they're just so iconically Samus.

My dream Samus figure would be Metroid II's Varia suit from the box art, that chunky beast was so damn sexy. That and a Chozo statue/Torizo and I can die happy.

A lot of prize figures these days are really nice in quality. They have a bad reputation (rightfully so) as cheap shit with god awful paint jobs and assembly issues but they've stepped up their game over the years. Hell, some of the prize figures coming out these days could be considered "scale figure" quality. They may have less detailed sculpts and less paint apps but what is there is cleanly applied to the point where a $20-30 prize figure won't feel like a total waste of cash. Which is nice because some characters, designs, poses, etc can only be gotten in prize figure form.

Here's the thing, the panels are shitty and run counter to the entire shape of the suit on other m. Even someone who buys it might not like it after a while and never know why.

If you look at the Smash 4 version, it tries to alleviate these problems and sort of succeds. On the Prime suit, the panel lining is all following the general shap of the piece it's on. No line is uneeded, or out of place, nor is it over bearing. The round shoulders follow that same pattern with similarly round panels. While the ribbing on the suit mimics actual ribs. On the shins, the panel lines don't lead your eye back into the shin, instead it forms a diamond shape which leads your eye both up and down instead of in and out, so your eye follows a path around the suit more.

On the other m suit, horozontal lines thrown in for no reason serve to stop your eye's flow of movement. While the panels on the shoulders are nonsensical. Horizontal breaks there only lead the eye from one shoulder to the next jumping raggedly at the center cuts, while the kibble byt the red chest only further serves to counter the overall roundness of the silhouette. On the m's thighs, it tries to emulate what worked on both Prime's and the og's design withouot really knowing what made it good. The eye is drawn into a blank circle with a random slash drawn that cuts into the upper thigh, which pulls the eye away from the bland circle.

The other M suit could have worked well with minor modifications, however it's like the artis didn't understand gestalt lines, or how much the human eye likes to see paterns in things. This isn't even going to proportions in which the prime suit does better, but this is soley due toi the sculptor here.

The Prime 1 Barrier suit (they should get rid of that terrible "Varia" romanization already) is one of the most ridiculous of the franchise as far as proportions go, the shoulders are even broader than usual (and that's saying something) because they seem to be connected to the shoulderpads instead of the actual body and the legs are too long. It's even worse if you actually compare both of those to Samus face size.

Honestly, considering the Other M suit is one of the better designs, I'm glad they didn't stick to whatever rules you've apparently married yourself to.

Personally I do think the Other M design is one of the worse versions of the regular varia suit, although I wouldn't go as far as to call it overall bad so much as it just has some bad choices involved in the details that other ones don't, but imo the Smash 4 character model looks great and like completely turns it around and makes it so I no longer notice any of the things that bothered me about it, so clearly the problems were pretty subtle if just a different character model of the same suit was able to rectify them.

The left to me was always more feminine looking. Even the gun looks smoother than a feminine penis. The right suit looks angry as hell. The chest eyes, the rib cage, obviously the shoulders. The mask looks more compact. The definition on the right looks much greater because of what you would probably consider nuance. I think Ice Kirby's the only time he changes color unless you count Rock/Stone where his whole body warps because of the power.
