I realize its a vague description, kek. Its just that, where I'm going with my collection, MMC's stuff tends to stick out. I'm going for Chogokins, Macross, some Hot Toys, Sentinel. MMC is a great company, but right now I see Feral Rex next to all of the former and he just sticks out aesthetically.

Most Transformers aren't painted and most are chunky and stocky, hence the toy feel, at least in the sense that they have toyetic proportions compared to Japanese Robots.

IDW Overlord is one of the few sleek and tall looking Transformers, along with some other IDW verse designs if done properly.

How is the Carnifex plastic and build quality compared to Bandai SoC?

I know that it should be more playable than Macross plastic.

Of course, it should be better than the failed QC Sentinel Dancougar.

The new official trypticon looks much better than fortmax and Metroplex but I always wanted this design in plastic form. Shame he'll only really go with legends class dudes. Even then Only Shapeshift did legends class WFC/FOC stuff. I'm not sure if Iron Factory's IDW/Dreamwave derived cybertronian modes aesthetically meshes enough.

his transformation is rediculus but that's a minor grip with how both modes look. As a result his torso doesn't feel all that solid. The transformation itself is a bunch of panel moving on thin arms

The reason for this isn't that I don't think it's a quality figure, but I've already fucked my MP Optimus Primal up pretty badly after only a few transformations (the shiny paint on his chest seems to rub something on transformation) and I really don't want to do that to another figure.

MT did a cross dimension comic. Of note is that Bee, the Seekers in dinoarmor, and the hodgepodge scrap magnus show up. Also what I can only assume is Jetfire is the only character in a new design we haven't seen before and has a Cross Dimension-esque name: Buster Skywing. I just picked this up. I really don't know why I passed this last time I saw it in the wild. Lots of play and a gorgeous robot mode only marred by the PCC ports being somewhat temperamental and the range on the elbows. Double gatling gun hands are great. Only wish he was a bit taller so he can loom over some of the mid sized FP/MT cons. Rioter and Striker are taller but he goes good with the aesthetic.

Even the better companies produce a stinker every now and again. But off the top of my head, the most reliable seem to be:

Mastermind Creation's Reformatted line has been pretty damn good overall, though their Not-Lockdown (and his remolds) are pretty shit so avoid those.

Iron Factory produces good stuff on the whole, their usual issue is tolerances being a little tight on most things.

Maketoys usually does good work.

Master Made is pretty good, but some people don't like the superdeformed look so there you go.

That's a tricky one because even the best companies have misses in either design and QC, but in my personal experience Maketoys, Mastermind Creations, Fans Project and Iron Factory have been very consistent quality wise.

KFC has had a lot of misses out of the box and STAY AWAY FROM PERFECT EFFECT.

That being said, a good rule is to always watch a review of somebody who bought the product you are looking for in retail. Don't trust people who receive review copies because they often gloss over faults.

Never bothered with the add-ons after my not-arcee disintegrated.

Although their version of the cassettes were pretty good for what they were.

From what I've read it's usually their figures with thin pieces/ connections like Leonidas and their arcee mold. The plastic tolerance just isn't there and usually snap with minimal effort.

The best thing to do with them out of the box is find a pose you like, set them down, and never touch them again.

Optimus and Soundwave already have masterpieces out that are spot on for their G1 looks. But if you really need one for Optimus, look up Toy World Primorion. Arcee has one coming up from Toy World called Leah, but I don't think it's anytime soon.

For more g1 stuff, look up Fanstoys, toy world, DX9 and Maketoys.

Price wise, it's hard to say, usually 3rd party is more expensive but the masterpiece-like figures are pretty competitive to their official counterparts.

Oddly enough I have no connection to PMOP and just want a good cab Prime. So the PE one (at the moment) looks pretty tempting. His combing with the ginrai mold is just a bonus.

I know a lot of design aesthetic leans toward to the lean and lanky bots, but it's nice to see more THICC things on the horizon. There's a good handful of stuff that is a bulkier, like TFC's combined Poseidon, MMC's Strika, and Spark Toys Alpha Pack, but Fans Hobby's entire design aesthetic revolves around chunky, beefy bots. He's heavier than he looks, with the die-cast in his kidneys, however the main issue people have with him is if you rotate his arms forward enough, he unseats the tab holding the hood-chest down and the flap that covers his underboob. Also the panels on the insides of his legs are known to not hold as tightly as one would hope. He's still a really good figure if you want a Jazz.
