>>6186543

I've mentioned this so many times that I'm starting to sound like I'm promoting it but I'm not. I use the Sony Alpha A200. Its good enough for what I need and cheap ($200) but the pictures are a little soft and it's not very fast. I'd only really recommend it as a starter DSLR

Looks like ass. You probably just pointed the camera vaguely in the direction of the figures, took the picture and posted it, without even trying to make it look good, or taking several shots and choosing the best.
Fully expected you to play the "My poor old potato camera/I tried/please no bully/it's just for fun" card.

inb4 all the butthurt and white-knights try to defend these and say they are in any way ''good''.

Kek

You have the floor Anon, take us to school.

Anybody following these threads knows I'm all about constructive criticism but being an aimless dick with nothing to contribute is just pointless.

I don't wanna hear any of that "I don't have to do it just to have an opinion" bullshit either because...

A) If you don't do anything that makes >>6186986 >>6186995 >>6186989 literally better than anything you've ever done and...

B) Its like bitching about politics without voting. Yeah, you're entitled to your opinion but nobody's going to take you seriously. Maybe you'll figure out how to troll when you finally finish middle school.

He's right though those photos are literally shit. Yes he was an ass about it but he actually gave legitimate criticism. Better than the usual you "cant pose for shit" or "learn how lighting works," faggot posts you see in these threads. These photos are some of the worst I've ever seen.

>>6186933
You. Read this.
http://blogs.adobe.com/VideoRoad/2009/03/cleaning_out_the_green_on_gree.html
>>
>>6187567
The fallacy is that a person who is not capable of producing a better item does not have the moral high ground to criticize it.
Example: "I don't like this chicken." "Hmph! Let's see you try and cook it better!" It's a way to make a personal attack by criticizing an argument. The complainer is essentially accused of being unreasonably demanding by finding fault in something that he or she couldn't do better.
The issues were pointed out in >>6187561.
Deal with those and you might take better pictures, instead of sitting there getting tushy toasted because somebody did what you asked.

>>6186986

>>
>>6187567
He told you what your problems were. Just because you didn't like his tone or whatever doesn't make the info wrong. Also whether or not they can do better is irrelevant in this case because it doesn't change what you posted. Those pix are what's being critiqued. Nothing more.
>>
>>6187610

>Better than the usual you "cant pose for shit" or "learn how lighting works," faggot posts you see in these threads

To me, what >>6187561 had to "offer" is cut out of the same cloth

>>6187619

Whoa now,

Asking for a little specificity isn't white knighting. What >>6187561 posted isn't critique, its shit-talking for the sake of being abrasive. It's basically "here's why you suck" without any suggestions for improvement. It just ends up sounding like that kid who acts up in class because they don't get enough positive attention at home.

Criticism would be something along the lines of "adjust your light source" or "back away from your subjects" or something that relatively hints at what >>6186986 >>6186995 >>6186989 could do better.
>>
>>6186469

>>
>>6187672
>Asking for a little specificity isn't white knighting
The guy wasn't even talking to you. Why do you think you're entitled to "ask for a little specificity" on the other anon's behalf? He's the one that asked for opinions, and people gave them to him.
>To me, what >>6187561 had to "offer" is cut out of the same cloth
So? It's not about YOU.
>Criticism would be something along the lines of "adjust your light source" or "back away from your subjects"
_____

>Out of focus
>10 x larger than it needs to be
>dark and grainy
>poorly laid out
>unfunny 'joke'
Seems pretty straight forward. If a person can't read that, and figure it out (especially since there's several threads on the board right now that have tons of information on how to do it better) then taking crappy pictures isn't their biggest problem.
Just because you didn't like his tone or whatever doesn't make the critique wrong.

Possibly looking grainy on your computer because you are viewing them at a greater size. Try resizing it down slightly and see if that takes off a bit of the grain.

Its hard for me to tell which of my photos are good, and which aren't.

Not trying to sound like a Like-whore here, but my personal favourites get less likes and comments on social media, than some that i don't like thaaaat much.

I honestly can't tell what makes a good photo.
>>
>>6197573
Subject matter can affect it. A photo of a store shelf full of Marvel Legends can get more likes/comments than a nice photo of an anime import.
>>
>>6197583
This is true. People usually like things they know, like a shitty picture or iron man will get more attention than a cool picture of a lesser known character.

But unless it's your job, try not to think about it. When it comes to photography (and creative stuff in general), taste is very subjective. Sure there are guidelines you can follow, but at the end of the day, people like what they like.

Ditto. I think most people find stuff searching tags of stuff they're already into, so my marvel and star wars shots usually end up being more popular than something of bruce lee, for instance. It pretty much comes down to people liking stuff other than what I do, and being ok with that is a pretty important life skill.
>>
>>6197573

As far as Instagram likes go it really depends on what hastags you're using and how popular the character you're shooting is
>>
>>6197573
I posted a photo last week, it didn't get many likes.
I deleted it, then posted the same photo with a new caption and it got double the amount of likes it originally had within minutes.

Instagram is a very fickle place

Time of day has a lot to do with it too. Mid morning seems to work the best
>>
>>6198575
Time is relative to where you live, obviously. So you had to find out where the majority of your followers come from, and post depending on that schedule.

Personally, i think it works best to post during evenings though. People tend to check instagram before going to bed or after work, rather than in the morning where they have to get ready for the day.

youre right. Just realized that my most liked photos are Zelda related. Its the majority of Zelda Nerds i guess, rather than people actually interested in toyphotography. Likes on Instagram don't seem to be a good indicator for quality then.

Pic related is my most liked photo by far, and personally speaking, i don't think its that good.

I also think that cute photos tend to get more likes than funny, creepy or "cool" ones.

He looks fantastic, but the chrome paint scratches easy, the flaps that cover the holes his hands rotate into are super loose and everything is super tight when you open him. You literally have to loosen a couple screws in his lower legs so that they will actually slide properly without excessive force.

Aesthetically he's great but QC wise he's a mess.

I just have to accept that I'm not good at this. I use my smartphone, so I'm already using lesser equipment, but I don't know. Something about my shots seem so unimpressive, especially when compared to those of others. I want to say it's my composition and posing.

To the likes and topic thing: pic related has to be one of my personal favourites of my photos, but the response was pretty.. quiet.

People tend to like cutesy and happy photos more than gruesome ones that make them feel uncomfortable i guess.

Either that or the thumbnail is boring because most of the photo is held in few shades of red.

It's the thumbnail, it looks monochromatic in a muddy way.

It's a damn good picture, I like your Metal Gear stuff but I've found that Instagram is a game of thumbnails

Funny thing is that I just took that picture from my couch with a red blanket over it.

As seen on this picture from the side, they are already taking so much space also if you know how big that MP-Not Victory Saber is you would understand why I had to take the picture that way.

It looks like you're using a cellphone so I'd stick with either outdoor shots, posterboard or another solid color background, like a wall without texture or something

You could also invest in a DSLR, the background on these were my couch

I'd love to do this shot with practical effects instead of poor photoshop fuckery. But i don't know how
>>
>>6207330

>Is this still too dark?

Yes it is. If you can't tell whats happening in the thumbnail then its too dark.

>practical effects instead of poor photoshop fuckery

Cool, just don't go down the slippery ACBA slope where you start taking mediocre to bad pictures just because they have some aversion to editing.

I promise you, NO photographer worth anything thinks this way--- post is and always has been part of the process. It's like saying "I'm going to carve something out of wood but without sanding or finishing it" They also tend to miss their white balance A LOT.

I recommend using your cell phone flashlight or a bright ass LCD flashlight a couple of feet away in a pitch black room and set the camera to a low exposure setting.

Set your camera up on a tripod or a sturdy base, manually focus it and turn off the autofocus, and set to time or use remote.

Pic related is an early experiment in the technique but you get the gist.

Canon PowerShot SX150 IS that my father lend me after he buyed a new camera.

Its decent in outdoors but no matter what configurations I put, I cant get average pictures (they always look noisy for me).

Any recomendations? (I will post a picture for referente later, batteries charging up).
