BBTS is getting Sixshot in next week if my emails aren't telling me filthy lies again.

Still waiting for Wave 4 of Titans Return to go up somewhere.

Toy Fair soon-ish.

So who's everyone's favorite standalone titanmaster?

Mine's Sawback, although I can see Shuffler dethroning him (if I could ever find him).

>>
>>6169814
So the back bit of the runway is unpainted grey?
>>
>>6169810
>but his head sucks ass

Conveniently, that is a VERY solvable issue in this particular line.
>>
>>6169810
Headhead's issues are:

-TM head damages the tiny pincers over time
-No waist swivel
-Shoulders and knees could be loose out of package.
>>
>>6169810
Hardhead is the only toy I got so far only because it was literally all I considered giving a chance from wave 1 and 2.
It has pretty good playability, the cannon can be moved in robot mode so you can not only aim it but also store it on the back if you are posing it on stand by, the shoulders have good range of movement but the chest is too fucking square to let you use them to their full extent; though it doesn't matter than much because you can still do all you need with them, the legs are kind of shitty IMO but they are still solid and there's no issue at all with getting it to stand and pose though more dynamic poses are hindered by the lack of any articulation on the feet; which is something you can remedy by getting a Tamashii stand as it has a hole on the back to peg one in.

Be wary that the QC on the line has been really hit or miss. Mine came with some details from the calves botched, its right arm has some trouble pegging in place for tank mode, and the slot for the titan master was floppy as shit.
>>
>>6169821
>-TM head damages the tiny pincers over time
First I'm hearing of it.
>>
>>6169823
The ridges on the TM head get caught up in the pincers, and they can damage them over time if you remove the head every now and then. This doesn't happen if you flip the head TM head over, but the TM head will end up with stress marks if you do so.
>>
>>6169817
The back is unpainted and is covered by the sticker.

Which is weird for if they want to save paint, they shouldn't paint the other part of the deck- but they did.

If they keep the way the back is with the other part, they got a pretty much perfect carrier deck, with the difference in colors and proper molded details.
>>
>>6169735

Be nice if they made a Titanmaster Kup withcartoon colored faceplate. vehicle doesn't really matter as the head is the point. Almost any redeco of an existing vehicle mold will do. Maybe the Jeep / Airbike

>>
>>6169940
It's done so you can have the clear chest window (i think it's unnecessary...) without machining another mold for the black parts...just put all of the parts on the clear-yellow runner.

Anyway, the black coating is actually not too bad...I had trouble identifying it as clear yellow plastic. I wouldn't use the 3mm stand hole though...it's probably too small with all the paint.

The annoying this is that we KNOW they can use more than one sprue for these guys. Buzzsaw has grey, yellow and black, Action Master Shockwave had grey, purple, and red, so having a separate piece for the yellow would have worked, and the head didn't even need to be rubber, the antenna wouldn't snap that easily if the head used regular plastic.

Bayformers had a wide range of quality variations, RotF and HftD had the best, Dotm and AoE had some shitty toys on them, TR has pretty good quality overall with some known issues (croc mold weak knees, Highbrow and Scourge lose nek connectors).

16 for Onslaught is a good price he has an awesome bot mode, altmode not so good but still passable.

The first two movie lines, the 2007 movie and ROTF, have the best toylines, including their "post-movie" lines; Allspark Power and ROTF's untitled 2010 TF line and Hunt for the decepticons. With Movie 1, the better toys are generally the non-movie based characters. ROTF has most of the definitive retail toy versions of the characters.

DOTM is when things started going downhill; suffering from simplification and budget cuts, though it's not completely terrible, and now people seem to think of it as OK. The new characters from the toyline are generally alright, but most of the returning characters from the first two movies got worse toys, with exceptions like Megatron.

AoE was worse, but the Dinobots are pretty neat toys.

Its been weird going from being a 90's kid where BW did't get much respect, and us BW fans being the young kids of the fandom, then it becoming a fandom darling mostly everyone had accepted and loved in the early to mid 2000's, then seeing it gradually fall out of favor as new and younger fans come into the fandom and don't "get" the beast era at all.

Before the movie and the Classics line brought a huge wave of new fans and nostalgic people in, it was in pretty high regard. Lots of Botcons centered around Beast Era stuff. It was pretty crucial to the fandom's formative years on the internet. Disdain mostly came from outsider circles who mostly knew the G1 cartoon primarily.

The CGI is unpolished, but I do think the characters themselves emote pretty well, even better than a lot of newer CGI shows.

I wouldn't really consider ROTF and the 2010 movie recent history, in terms of the franchise. I was thinking more with current shows and comics especially now that they've sort of solidified the concepts of fembots within the cannon with the whole Camina thing.

But, I'll concede and add the caveat to my post that I mean actual characters that show up in something (anything) and get any kind of role, not toy-only repaints of shitty legend class figures that could literally be anyone.

I mean, how many memorable female transformers characters do we even have?

There's Arcee, from pink car to blue motorcycle and everything in between.

Blackarachnia/Airachnid for spider shit.

Slipstream to get a female seeker.

Strika to get a proper ugly brute.

Wingblade as the fanvoted waifushit.

Strongarm as the cop actually dressed for the job.

And what, Override? Gotta have a leader there somewhere. That's barely half a dozen, and I'm being generous. At least it's fairly evenly split down the middle.

Character wise? You got that, plus Elita-1 and her crew, Minerva, some obscure micro masters like Discharge from Japanese G1. Airazor; the first to actually get a toy designed as female. Botanica, who never got a toy, but worth noting. Thunderblast from Cybertron. A whole bunch of minicons, but I wouldn't blame you for looking over those. Alice and Sari from ROTF and animated, though those are mostly human. Ripclaw from Beast hunters. Botcon exclusives like Antagony, nighttacer, and Flamewar. And some IDW femmes.

I know, right? Especially when I make it clear I'm talking about unique/reusable character archetypes that are female. There are already tons for males, I was wondering how many female ones there were.

A lot of the main cast already have their niches. For the most part, you'll know exactly how Ratchet, Shockwave, Grimlock, Starscream, and others will act and interact purely from the tropes they've carved out for themselves. And that's not even mentioning OP and Megs, who are practically multiversal singularities based on how similar their incarnations are.

Okay, so I know that after the parents complaining about ROTF's complex transformations, we'll never get that glorious, nearly puzzle-like level of Transformers again. But why is TF engineering so damn lazy nowadays? Like, a good example would be TR Weirdwolf's huge paws just hanging off the back of his damn arms. Same deal with Skullcruncher's claws, just sticking out sideways from his forearms. Yes, I understand the transformations need to be simple so kids can do em, but simple =/= sloppy.

I like a lot of the aesthetic of Titans Return, but I just can't bring myself to buy any yet. The transformations are painfully lazily engineered in my eyes, and the bot modes really suffer as a result.

I'm aware that the TR figures are heavily G1-influenced, that's what I like about them. And no, Bayformers weren't my first by a long shot, I've been collecting since G2. I just loved how complex the ROTF line was so I mentioned it.

I do sort of take exception with "it looks sweet" and "nothing wrong with it" though. I look back on G1 fondly, but I can accept that the engineering back then was mostly pretty primitive, and that some things clearly were a product of that poor engineering rather than a willful choice. I mean, it's pretty telling that when you look at the Headmasters cartoon or official art, Weirdwolf has no paws hanging off his forearms. TR was a chance for Hasbro to fix that old engineering and do it better, and it seems like they just chose to pass on a lot of those opportunities. They could even have engineered a way to fold Weirdwolf's paws up, but also allowed you to leave them out if you wanted them "G1 toy accurate." Best of both worlds, giving us a choice, etc. But they didn't. Like I said, lazy.

Well someone on a different forum has a similar opinion, on how primitive TR line is- lack of rotating hand, rocker feet, etc.

The guy almost sperg out when it was pointed out that unless people are willing to pay leader price for a deluxe size figure hasbro will never do those kinda of thing for such G1 like line. The guy can't accept it and kept saying that people will pay for them as TR is aimed at "adults."

You would need some extreme engineering and budget to get most of the TR deluxe figures to have moving feet. Just like at Kroc and Hardhead. How many part would you need to get the feet move side way without destroying the general G1 look? The answer is a lot.
>>
>>6171365
This would actually work, but i think they'd go with gigatron for the name of megs.
I'd still buy it.
>>
>>6171141
Why do you gotta be such a shit about it?
>>
>>6171559
Nah, you don't need extreme engineering or budget. Most problems are really easy to solve. A properly placed balljoint with a divot cut out of the cup area could easily replicate the range of movement they currently have plus give you ankle pivot. It also wouldn't "destroy the G1 look," as the balljoint would be concealed within the shin armor and only the tip of the foot would protrude out.

The thing is, you don't need a lot of money to make these figures better--just a little bit of thinking and planning ahead. And if I, a lowly restaurant server with no background in engineering, can think of simple and cost-effective solutions for these problems, that kiiinda says that Hasbro isn't trying very hard.

holiday anon in the philippines again, its been awhile, its ironic i ended up bed ridden straight after my first tf haul, while better now the haul i did get ended up being luckluster as my own country ended up getting wave 4 stuff the week after i got mine.

Just tr skyshadow, perceptor, topspin, gnaw, brawn, roadburn, rid skywarp and scorponok, tr shuffler and repugnus the first haul, found a sealed dotm roadbuster (judging by the bootleg gunpla the place also sold and the cruddy paint work i suspect its either a bootleg or "lol hasbro" again) for just below retail, and today an sm store worker pointed out a cw ultra magnus for clearance of 1500 pesos which when converted is pretty nice though the paint on the face is a tad fucked (i also wanted the mp so hesitated but technically australia never got him so why not).

Overall i somehow blew 500aud on those mentioned, plus 2 shirts and 2 psvita games, never ended up going to the great places you guys mentioned (though we did go to manila but waking up at 4am to go fucking sucked and where we went only had the toy kingdom that the tf's of trwave4 first shown up, apparently out of stock)

i promise in the next 2 years ill tour those places, been bed ridden for over a week and further complications didnt help, thanks for reading my blog, patreon link down below

Don't mind him. There's always one anon that gets super-triggered whenever someone expresses any kind of discrimination over ANY figure. Apparently you are supposed to buy EVERY figure without question and not complain about them.

That said, I also abstained from many Transformer purchases in the past few years because of the cheapness. I came back for TR, and I think the level of complexity is pretty fun. I find the toys extremely satisfying to fiddle with, since you can get them between modes in under 30 seconds in most cases. I'm not saying I don't appreciate the level of engineering in the old RoTF toys, but if I want a puzzle, I'll get a rubix cube. Also, there's Masterpiece.
>>
>>6171588
>And if I, a lowly restaurant server with no background in engineering, can think of simple and cost-effective solutions for these problems, that kiiinda says that Hasbro isn't trying very hard.

No, you're not thinking of a simple and cost-effective solution. You just THINK you're thinking of a simple and cost-effective solution. It's easy as fuck to say "well they just should have done THIS", but you have no idea about how that would actually affect the cost and manufacturing of the toy. I'm not saying I do, either, but at least I'm aware enough to know that I shouldn't be calling the shots in a professional industry that I have zero experience with in any capacity.
>>
>>6171679

Were they really that hard to get though? At least to the extent of still being butthurt about it five years later?

>>
>>6171830
I went by my local TRU just for shits the other day. It was absolutely pathetic. Transformers have been relegated to a 3-foot-wide shelf space, and the only thing they had from Titans Return were two pegs with nothing but Wave 1 Legends. There was a single empty peg for Deluxes (which apparently cost $23), and everything else was RiD trash. Although I did get myself a Bisk.
>>
>>6171824
Not butthurt about it, I own them all. I just feel bad for all the people who never got to experience the glory of say, a FE Bulkhead, and had to settle for the RID piece of crap instead.

And yeah, they were actually pretty hard to get, for me at least. Like the anon above, I never saw a single one ever, and that's back when I was toyhunting several times a week. I eventually had to buy them at inflated prices online.
>>
>>6171848
I stupidly passed on FE Bulkhead at TRU because I was going to pick up that Brawn repaint of him. Well that of course got cancelled and later came out as a fucking overprice Cloud exclusive. Fortunately a couple of months ago I found Bulkhead for like $15 at a local comic shop. So that was nice.

I need to get another FE Arcee, though. I used her in a custom when I was younger and now I'm kicking myself for that. I actually had a back up mib but it turns out she had flaw in one of her feet and it broke immediately.
>>
Are "articulation budgets" actually a thing? I see that term passed around sometimes when people talk about restrictions the tf designers are meant to follow.

It sounds stupid as fuck, like designers are seriously being told to chose between wrist swivels or ankle tilts as though getting the vietnamese kids to pop an extra friction joint together during assembly will make a figure too expensive to be profitable. I'm wondering if it's a real thing or something the fandumb made up.
>>
>>6171865
>Are "articulation budgets" actually a thing?
Articulation costs money to engineer and install, so... yeah.
>>
>>6171865
It's real. No matter how minor a process seems, it adds up when you're manufacturing on a large scale.
>>
>>6171865
A friend of mine worked as a designer for Hasbro for a bit (not on the TF line though). I asked him about this once and he shrugged and said he'd never heard of any such practice. That combined with the fact that, like you said, it just SOUNDS ridiculous, makes me strongly suspect that it's a made-up rumor.
>>
>>6171841
Many TRU, Walmarts and Targets are on hold status with TFs until corporate hs more info on how the new movie is effecting display space.
>>
>>6171875
>(not on the TF line though)
there's the important part, Transformers require a much more vast and varied amount of moving parts for transformation
>>
>>6171865
You are grossly under educated. It's not the worker popping on the part. It's adding the extra cuts in the cast molds (or even added cast molds), it's the additional wasted or added plastic that must be factored in for that joint, it's the risk of engineering issues(strain of plastic, stability of the alt mode) that arise when adding the extra parts.
Also profit is weak on TFs, the demand is there and for over 20 years they kept the same price range on toys even when the dollar kept weakening but now they are in this lose/lose state where they either make a great toy but it's going to be $35+ a deluxe or what they are doing now which is keep cost as low as they can but sacrificing engineering.
>>
>>6171926

Ok I'll admit that retarded and know shit about the toy market but why doesn't Hasbro just kill all the "other" Transformers sublines like those step changers and shit they had and doesn't only concentrate on a very small number of figures every year.

In beast wars years we used to get like what 20 toys a year? Why not just go "fuck it movie year, kill everything make 20 movie figures and sell them for 30$?"
>>
>>6171930
Because who would buy that?
>>
>>6171897
I think people who are solely TF fans often overlook the extra amount of engineering and production that goes into a Transformer compared to any other action figure.
>>
>>6171937

People buy games with a 4 hour campaign for 60$ and then pay 20$ per every DLC, buying a 30$ toy for a screeching kid isn't that wild.

Plus most tansfags buy 3rd party deluxe shit for 100+$ they'd gladly pay 30$ for something with good or at least ROTF tier engineering.
>>
>>6171940

How long DOES it take to design a TF toy anyway? Year? Two years?
>>
>>6171930
>just kill all the "other" Transformers sublines like those step changers and shit they had and doesn't only concentrate on a very small number of figures every year.
Short answer: Less toy space, less brand power, better chance of being pushed out of stores. Gi Joe did exactly what you ask twice and both times it lead to them being pushed out of market. Another example is Marvel Legends before the soft relaunch with IM3. Taking away space makes a more collector market.
>In beast wars years we used to get like what 20 toys a year?
At the start due to weak brand of the original TF near the end we had closer to 50 toys in a single year. and also each years added to each other. RiD and Armada continued this trend with a large amount of toys in single years.

Also what you are asking puts us on Takaras road. Where they make themselves 3-6 MPs a year half of which are repaints and retools. Almost all their sublines are just them taking Hasbro toys are reselling them with a different coat of paint/slight retooling and even then they are still way behind on staying up to speed with those.
Basically a smaller line but higher quality would mean:
1.would be harder to find/buy even online
2. very limited amount of characters and molds, even more so than now
3. a potential death of the brand when sales go bad one quarter
>>
>>6171948
If Takara is anything to go by it's 2 years to design, 2+ years for engineering and prototyping. Consider how early they show test shots and how long it is after that you get the toy.
>>
>>6171349
>>6171351
>>6171352
>>6171353
Someone went to a lot of effort to make a mediocre custom. Doublecross would have worked much better.
>>
>>6171945
This is a bad comparison. The perceived value of games among consumers is higher, even if the truth is a disappointingly short campaign with no replay value. Parents, especially nowadays, view games as something that will keep their kid engaged and glued to the tv/tablet, and toys as cheap playthings that will soon be forgotten and cluttering up the house.
>>
>>6171959
If that was the case we'd never ever have movie toys. It takes a few months for actual design and prototyping, then about 6 months to manufacture. Times vary depending on the line and how fast it needs to hit the shelves.
>>
>>6171965
>Doublecross would have worked much better.
Get on it then.
>>
>>6171971
>If that was the case we'd never ever have movie toys.
Like you shared at the end ifferent processes with more money involved also consider how accuracy greatly varied as well as transformation engineering where you have some deluxes and even leaders that were very simple to transformer while others were an engineering mess to get into both modes. They also reach out to other teams to make it, the TF toy staff usually triples in size (and cost) to get those molds made and produce. Another thing look at AoE where the head of the TF brand admitted the simpler TFs were a mix of limited time to develop and kid friendly friendly.
People assuming it's always the same funding and teams on the projects. It's not. A non TF example was Jurassic World where it was every team of Hasbro working on something for the brand.
>>
>>6171971
He said Takara anon.
>>
>>6171971

Hasbro changes teams on transformers like the change pants too. The reason why current toys are shittier than what we got before isn't so much cost saving as it's the fact that TR is like the teams second try at transformers with AOE/CW being their first.

>>
>>6169626
I own a few Imaginext and they actually only have 6 poa(legs move together), not 7, the point still stands though.
Even look at the DC blind bag heroes, decent paint, the head moves, arms move and it has a waist swivel, same price as the Marvel blind bag heroes that are also unarticulated and have way worse sculpts and paint.
Hasbro overall has better full scale figures though. Despite TFs taking a dip in quality as of late they're still better than damn near anything Mattel puts on at the same price.
