Welcome to the LEGO general, where we have primary fun with secondary market value.

FAQ: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1YVt-4sibEMFOU8H484MpB-K6rNla5SIYdHZG8lyCHLQ/edit?usp=sharing

So, have you seen anything at your local 99 cents "only" stores?

Meanwhile in the UK, they are all still full price.
Offers occur like 3 for 2 but the two I want- The Dr Who sets never are on offer with each other.
I'm still resistant to buying them individually.

Any offers I should know about?

Once again begging for anyone who can pick up a 99 cent Wizard of Oz pack for me, I'm in the US and will pay cost plus shipping

Seeing this makes me feel a little annoyed I wasn't in the States for a little longer than I had been over the winter break.
>>
>>6164747
So I found some old series 13 minifigures. (got King and squid face alien) and wanted to know what the old codes did. I went to the site and there was no information and I'm a bit dumb searching for info because I keep getting identification info for other series. So what were they? game unlocks?
>>
>>6164827
99 cent stores for .99 and Five Below for $5 to $3.50 depending on location. This is starting to bleed into online shops and a lot are showing up for $3 and $5
>>
>>6164855
There used to be a game based around the CMFs called Minifigures Online. Starting from Series 12, the minifig packs had codes that would unlock that particular character for use in the game. The game shut down in early 2016, and the codes thing ended in Series 14.

Since the functionality is gone, the code unlock page on lego.com/minifigures is gone too.
>>

Both great pics. Good job Anon!

Your mech's forearms are awkwardly long. Have you considered using 90612 (the shortest socket) or 90611 (the second shortest)? You can make 90611 thicker by pushing small tires onto the axle part.

Alternatively, you could lengthen the torso with a taper towards the pelvis, rather than just adding Technic liftarms.

Good ideas. But the arms are going to look disproportionate anyway; might as well go a size larger and use the armor shells.

I think the tiny hips and stubby legs are the real issue, making everything else look off, but I haven't got the parts to remake them.

Ah, I see. I suppose there's more utility in having the option open of adding bar-based attachments to the shells.

Specifically, parents apparently complained that instructions were not provided for the alt builds, resulting in unhappy children. That's why the only multibuild sets you see nowadays have instructions for all of the builds.

To be fair, alternate builds having their own booklet isn't a new thing, I have pic related and it has both instructions.
>>
>>6164957
Does anyone have any legitimate citation for this, or is it just speculation?

I just assumed that "not paying the designers more money to make alt-builds" was just a cost-saving measure.
>>
>>6164961
Yeah, parents do a lot of stupid shit sometimes, including assembling the sets and gluing them like they were model kits, but I have a hard time believing enough of them pressured Lego like that.

I miss the alt-builds too, even though I never built any they were good suggestions.
>>
>>6164961
>>6164985
I always thought the alt-builds weren't there to give you something else to build, but just to show that the thing lego is good at is building other shit.
It seems kind of obvious that you can build whatever you want with lego, but it might still have been worthwhile telling people through the alt-builds.

>>
>>6164990
Same here. It's basically a visual way to show "Look, you can build all of these things... or anything you want!", because sadly enough, many people (not just ones born recently) have a hard time understanding that you can branch out beyond what the included instructions show.

No no, you're not nitpicking, you're right. I was just using "city" as an overall blanket term. Having grown up in an Australian country town (which actually gets called a city despite a distinct lack of city-like features), a smaller scale display appeals to me more. Think something like Springfield, where kids have enough room to have tree houses in their back yard.

IIRC the one in the Avengers set is more of a 70's muscle/sportster (don't quote me on that because I don't know shit about Avengers), the cars in the Batman movie seem to be firmly placed inthe late 70's- occasional compacts and smaller cars just coming out but lots of gigantic 8-wide full size road boats still on the road (New Yorkers, Delta 88s, LTDs, etc).

When you try to belittle people for where on the timeline they gained interest, you're not "protecting" your hobby from "casuals" and you're not "keeping a gate". You're just sounding like an angry bitter old fart who is stuck in the ways of the past.

>Does anyone have any legitimate citation for this, or is it just speculation
Speculation. Others think it's where the brand series are more toyetic then older lines with games, shows, licensing and apps and some think it's them perfecting it by having lines that are the 3 in 1 and even Dimensions encourages this. And finally some guess what you do, that it's rather pointless to waste time/money showing off a design that isn't in the instructions.
To be blunt I doubt the anon(s) saying it was parents are correct because the solution would be to just pay the extra 10c to make the institutions or offer them online. Think about it, parents want the instructions of something you already pay to build, why stop all together?
Sadly you always have adult collectors that anytime there is change their knee jerk reaction is to blame kids today or parents of said kids rather than the scary truth that the world just changes, leaving them behind.

I've been using this torso for a lot of my custom X-Men figs, but I was reluctant to also give it to Jean, because then Jean and Kitty Pryde would look like the same figure with different hair. Which I guess would be more accurate to Silver Age X-Men, when they all wore the same outfit, but there's a reason they changed it and gave them all distinct outfits, because it's visually more interesting that way.

What anon is saying is that legs in that particular color weren't in production at the time that the Wonder Woman figs were made. Red was one of the colors that happened to be in production, so it was cheaper to make red legs with flesh printing than to make flesh legs just for the WW sets.

The reason why the two Classic Space minifigs in the Exo-Suit are green is because at the time of production, there were three colors of torsos being made: black, red, and green (the green ones were TMNT, I think).

The biggest gripe with the set was the flimsy side panels of the main body of the ship. I've thrown together this proof-of-concept Frankenstein mess of a thing to hold them down. It works great, but completely removes the ability to store carbonite han in the ship, so this is going back to the drawing board for now.

something small to cover the spoke in the back would be nice also, but honestly its a cute little thing. adding more just could make it busy and/or much bigger quite quickly

>70900 The Joker Balloon Escape for the exploding part
>70901 Mr. Freeze Ice Attack for the wall
>70910 Scarecrow Special Delivery for the security gate
>70913 Scarecrow Fearful Face-off for.. A platform
>>

Yes, that set was a limited edition store exclusive.

Yes, LEGO zombies are also highly desired.

If you look closely at Wyldstyle, some of her prints (her hair streak particularly, I believe) are painted on.
>>
>>6166709
Zombie Bride and Zombie Groom only appear in that set. Those two are usually must-haves for anyone making a zombie amocalypse.
>>
>>6166719
But why would dad create an agent of chaos in his perfect Lego city

Didn't the kid make Lucy?
>>
>>6166724
The prevailing (semi-joke) theory is that Wyldstyle is The Man Upstairs's waifig. As someone who used to doodle on his LEGO with Sharpies, I don't think a 8 1/2 year old kid could do customs that well.
>>
>>6166719
That would explain how her streaks are so fine in the movie when the IRL piece has big streaks.

I have a niece and nephew who both like lego. But it's becoming a secret pleasure because they are middle class in a high class school district. They tell me when friends come over, they made fun of their collection, called them "cheap dolls". Apparently recording myndane bullshit on the biggest newest apple product is what's fun, basically the worst behavior possible.

It seems kids like lego. But the range of kids wanting a full series shrinked. But that already was 15 years ago.
Thx to licenses and adult lines they compensate that with older kids and adults buying some Batman or StarWars.

My hope is the dinosaur portal (even though we just got dino sets through JW) or a return to semi-pharaoh's quest (more likely)

(Incoming obscure ass logic:)
The alien commander from Alien Conquest originally helped Amset Ra try to take over the world, tried to help Atlantis take over the world, and tried to take over the world himself. As a big FU for the multiple defeats, he unleashes a dinosaur portal deep in the jungle during his retreat.

So, if we take the city subthemes as soft reboots for these action themes, they did underwater, space, jungle... next will be egypt because that's pretty much all that's left.
