For those unfamiliar, "Plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model." If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.

***Non-Gundam Group Build***

So this is pretty straightforward, build something that isn't Gundam. I literally do not care what it is, if it's not Gundam it counts (and just to get this out of the way, Bandai is fine). I do not require full paint jobs this time either, as I know the vast majority of people here build Bandai and that's it.

This is also not a prize build, but a regular group build.

Looks like the Char's Counter Attack re-release is going up in price hard. Eight kits and was formerly $40. If you want a damn cool piece of gunpla history, you should keep your eyes on it. Selling for $96 right now on Amazon.
>>
>>6162734
Never buy kits when they're overpriced, Bandai reprints almost everything at some point or another.

What are the recommended temperatures for spraying topcoats at? I can't read the can nor am I seeing any numbers that look like temperatures written on it. It's starting to warm up a little here, I'm hoping I can sneak out soon to finish a few projects.

Getting more done on this guy, redid the white because I added too much shit for preshading not to look extremely busy, and I had the fucking chest snap in half (again) but I wasn't thrilled with the blue anyway, so I redid that. At least it's almost over maybe.
>>
>>6164312

I also learned a valuable lesson that any tint you add to your white better be mirrored by your preshades tint or it's going to look awful. The red of brown and the blue of neutral gray really stand out against each other.

So, here's my pathetic excuse for "weathering". I more focused on accentuating the edges on the bottom half as opposed to going for dirty toy as people have suggested.

It doesnt really show too well on camera though.

Any other advice anyone can give me? Going for 'space' weathering as opposed to mud or gravel or whatever. And do things in space rust? Having no oxygen and all.
>>
>>6164359
The Gundam is made of titanium, so it wouldn't get rusty anyway.

Paint kinda stops rust either way.

Titanium oxidizes, so if it was exposed it would gray out and get dull looking.

Weathering would be as simple as adding gray wear marks on edges.

They are pretty good if you're looking to get just one kit. In my experience, with some exceptions, they usually charge maybe 5-10 dollars more than it costs to buy and ship that single model from hlj or amiami. Actually, I'd imagine its size would make it even worse after transformations than the MG/RG due to the extra weight being exerted on the joints. Unless of course, they use metal in there instead.

>don't have the patience to paint
>don't have the skills to paint
>don't have the tools to paint

Also, I royally fucked up the paint on the little white pieces on the foot. I sanded the paint off, which in turn sanded off the details on it. Had to sand the whole thing smooth and since I can't panel scribe for shit, it's just a rounded blob.

So I've been experimenting with my Siegfried using artist inks for the panel lining. I think it's working pretty well, no major issues so far.

As for the process, I'm using this brand: http://www.daler-rowney.com/content/fw-artists-inks thinned with distilled water in a little vial and then shaking the shit out of it. The actual lining is done with a 0/10 brush, though you can probably use whatever. The trick to it seems to be to make sure the ink and water doesn't separate. Generally, I have to shake it back up in between each piece, as one brush dip (bleed excess on the lip of the vial) will cover a pretty good bit.

Clean up is nice and easy, I'm using a mixture of q-tips with lighter fluid and blue shop towels. Generally, the lighter fluid cleans up the excess and then I wipe away any smearing with the towel.

The ratio on this I'm not sure on yet, as I mixed until I got something a bit thicker than the pour type Gundam markers.

>>
>>6166234
I vote for GP04, it's fucking glorious.
>>
>>6167229
It's naphta based and can crack plastic if it gets into cracks or joints. It's an acceptable risk when cleaning up enamels because it evaporates so quickly but it just boggles the mind why you would use it to clean water based inks when alcohol would work just as well with 0 risk of cracking.

Also, shit's toxic and you're breathing it.
>>
>>6167236
Ah smells like similar my markers, and honestly, it's only open for a few minutes at a time. On the cracking note, I used it on my HG V2 A/B's shield and that was back last June and it's been fine.
>>
>>6167240
>>6167236
Also on that though, what's a good choice for enamel? The stupid Testors pots dry themselves out too quickly for my use...
>>
>>6167173
For acrylics Vallejo varnishes work well if you thin them a little.
>>
>>6167117
Perhaps find a medium that the ink is more soluble in? May be able to reduce shake-strain.
>>6167236
I don't think those inks are water-based.
They're specifically stated as acrylic-based and water-resistant.
Oh wait GG maybe mix them in/clean them with alcohol solution?
>>
>>6166686
I have a spray booth so I could go with laquers. But acrylics would be preferable though Future just doesn't cut it.
>>
>>6167236
Do you seriously not huff fumes?
>>
>>6167495
Then like I said above, vallejo varnishes work well if you thin them properly. Just be sure to shake the bottle really well. And let the parts sit for a couple of days before reassembling the kit or else the paint may scrape off a bit easy since it won't be cured yet.

Tamiya also makes decent clearcoats but in my experience I got better results with Vallejo.
>>
>>6167590
Aren't Tamiya's the ones that are as small as their regular paint? Seems like you get less for what you pay for.
>>
>>6167602
>quality>quantity
Remember that.
>>
>>6167602
Your supposed to thin it. and when properly thinned that little bottle will last you longer than a spraycan of tamiya clearcoat will at like half the cost.
>>
>>6167590
Would you recommend Alclad's over the two?
>>
>>6167271

For painting or for wash?
>>
>>6167646
Alclads clearcoats are enamels (Except Aqua-gloss, which is one of those weird acrylic-lacquer things). They work well enough, spray and level and look really nice, although in my experience even months later if you handle models coated with them they tend to feel a bit tacky after a minute. I think that finger oils may react with them or something.
>>
>>6167664
I thought they were all lacquer. That means I can't use Aqua gloss for enamel washes.
>>
>>6167659
Wash. For painting I usually go for Alclad, Gaia, Tamiya, or Mr. Hobby.

It's not lacquer, pretty sure "Aqua" stands for water based, but they dissolved something unholy in that water.

Sure does. You wanted enamel, what did you expect.
>>
>>6167669
>That means I can't use Aqua gloss for enamel washes.

>Except Aqua-gloss

Aqua-gloss is safe for enamel washes and I've done it before with no issue. Just be sure to not let the aqua gloss sit in your airbrush after your done for the session. If it dries you are never getting that shit out of your brush.
>>
>>6167735
Could've sworn pour type Gundam markers are enamel, which I've never had an issue with them eating plastic.

No? There are topcoat options that come in bottled forms that can easily be airbrushed. Or even decant the topcoat itself and airbrush it to conserve topcoat.
>>
>>6167926

Seeing as that's not really nice gloss IMO (the reflections aren't that clean), yeah, I think you could get there with Future. Future isn't the best gloss topcoat, but it does work. You should probably give it a shot if you already have Future on hand, since you can just wash/scrub it off easily anyway if you don't like it.

Kind of. They can still be strong enough to protect your paint from most things as long as you let them cure properly. Most paint scrape occers with plastic on plastic contact though and enamel and lacquer topcoats aren't going to prevent that any better than acrylics will.

Just kidding. As a colour blind person, are you able to wear some sort of colour correcting lens? Failing that, a way to help you see the differences, at least when it comes to intensity, is to take a photo and then invert the colours. I know it doesnt really help to make it 'look right' but at least you know what the intensity of the colour should be like.

Go to your local hardware store and get a big jerrycan of pic related, it will clean anything.

This to be honest. No need to waste expensive thinner on cleaning when the store-bought ones are just fine at the job.

Does anyone actually apply every last decal on test suits/70+ sticker, minute detail suits?

The Zudah was an unexpected gift from a Zeek friend of mine. Hi-Nu is a gift for my brother. Still waiting on five more kits to arrive in all.

>>6169053
I do occasionally. I did it on my mg sazabi ka. It depends on the suit and what your lookin for in terms of looks.
>>
>>6169181
I can see it on a MG, or a SD. But HGs are so comparatively small, especially with tiny stickers.

Finished topcoating all of the parts of my Zaku, but I've gotten the orange peel.
Can someone help me find out what variable fucked me over?

Topcoat: Alclad II Flat (prethinned)

Airbrush: Iwata HPCS

Air pressure: 20 pounds

Humidity: 30%

Temp: Google listed this as 51, but I set a space heater an hour before I started to warm up the room, reached room temps. Then, I kept it around 4 feet behind me, still on.

Only did one coat.
>>
>>6169238
>Only did one coat.

There's your problem.

Yeah any decal that would be legible would be bigger than a person in scale. I've seen people do it well in war models but it's a lot of custom work.

nigga, how many flat oranges have you seen? orange peel is a defect of gloss coats, it doesn't apply to matte

like anons said, do another coat
>>
>>6169238
That's pretty much what alclad flat looks like. I can never get it to look right, it's just dead flat and gives every piece this terrible texture. It's weird because I always have good results with alclad gloss and semi-gloss but the flat never seems to work out for me.
>>
>>6167910
It must have been 10 years ago or more, my dad got me the Liger Zero with Schneider armor model kit. Right around the same time New Century Zero was on Toonami. I terrified one day I'll be cleaning something up and find my old model. It must look terrible, I would twist pieces off the sprues because I didn't know better.
>>
I asked on /m/ but perhaps you guys would have ideas too.

What's the best way to transport gunpla? I'm going to be moving soon and I'm worried about parts breaking, specifically small parts like high grade V-fins.
>>
Mg zeta plus c1 or 1/100 graze custom?
>>
>>6169394

I took all the little bits I was worried might break and pack them up in a small box. Then I took the models and wrapped them up in bubble wrap and packed them tight in a regular box. It takes a little time but everything made it ok.
>>
>>6169412

Only one leg in and I hate it. The tolerances are whack and the PS plastic feels like it will shatter the moment I breathe on it. I can't even finish building it since some pieces require gluing and I want to paint this bastard.

Shame, I was really looking forward to building it. Since another one a few threads back wanted a size comparison with a MG, here you go.

Dropping this here from the shinki thread since it seems cross relevant. This is specifically for a T hip joint found in Megami Device kits, but it should be applicable to any number of other things to reinforce a joint.

I kind of doubt you guys have any issue knowing how to pin things but I figured it couldn't hurt.

I'm starting to wonder if Apsy is a massively overrated hack who can't into mechanical design or Koto didn't adopt Machineca for mass production properly.
>>
>>6169928
They mentioned they had to rush the first waves out the door and apparently didn't catch the tolerance issues of the t hip til too late according to some talk show. It'll be fixed in future installments as Kotobukiya usually does.

Other than some issues with fragility, which I've found isn't really a problem provided you aren't a hamhands or a plamo newbie like most of shinki thread is, the kits themselves are fantastic.

The partswap gimmick is really cool and the kits are all molded in the correct colors so painting isn't necessary whatsoever unlike a lot of other koto kits.
>>
Is this still the current thread?

What are my options for gunbuster and diebuster kits? I've only found some old resins and a SD-esque gunbuster. Are there any modern garage kits or something?

Otherwise i guess I'll have to make some customs.
>>
Hey Gunpla Meisters. I am about to embark on building my Zudah, and I was wondering how I should go about with the sanding if needed. I have 60, 100, 240,400, 600 and 1000 grain(?) paper. Which would be the best to use? Or do I use different ones for different nubs?
>>
>>6170102
600 and 1000
400 if you need to remove a lot of material, but I never use it while doing nub removal
>>
>>6170107
>400 if you need to remove a lot of material
or the material is hard, e.g. resin
>>
>>6169933
There's a bunch of guys over at the shinki thread who have trouble finding pin vises in their area.

I bought the cheap (non-swappable bits) option myself so I'll need to upgrade to a proper pin vise.

If you're in Asia you can get pin vises from Gunpla or Tamiya model car shops.
>>
>>6170201
Well yes, but we aren't talking about resin here are we?
>>
>>6170212
You know, I was about to comment about how that was kinda douchy but then realized were taking about a snapfag not knowing what sandpaper to use, the chance that he has some resin option kit for the zudah is...remote.

Carry on.

I don't know the exact brand, but they're SMD LEDs from a store called Model Train Software. A bit on the expensive side at $2 a pop, but I figure that's just the cost of avoiding the hassle of soldering something so tiny. They have a few different sizes - the nano size was small enough to fit in the Gastima's head, and the pico ones are small enough for me to embed them in the hilts of the beam sabers.

how do i get smooth prime coat? it get a texture like sand, where i live the weather is really hot and dry.
i find really hard to get a perfect spot, if is not sandy i get overload of paint.
>>
>>6170473
If the texture is sand, then the primer is drying in the air before it can land. If you're using a rattlecan, then try warming the can and not spraying when it's too hot. If you're airbrushing, try using Leveling Thinner and/or Mr Retarder to keep the primer from drying before it can even out.

Also just straight up might be too thick, in which case it's gotta be thinned. Don't be a moron like me and spray unthinned primer straight from an airbrush, it ends badly.

Legit kits even with free shipping are local prices because they have to import it as well.. Getting bootlegs, your choice is fairly limited, and third parties are pretty expensive by themselves.

you can if you can shake that shit super hard after dunking it so that you don't get pooling, then it really works well

In fact I think brushes often hurt more than they help with future

I literally spray shit from a tiny bottle of it and shake it off then you stick it in a box and don't look and it pops out looking nice

If you look at it you think something went wrong because parts can turn a little milky etc but it all works out

the only thing you can't have is drips
