I'm trying to do that for an upcoming convention. I'm trying to make an outdoor park gazebo, like the first pic, but can't get the roof right. I gave up trying to make the thing octagonal if I want to use the decorated arch pieces, but I'm stuck on a way to make the roof. I'm leaning towards using the tan canopy piece, but since I don't have one of those, I don't know what it would look like.

No, and comic-book Bane wasn't inspired by TDKR at all. Movie Bane vaguely resembles the Mutant Leader because he forms a gang in Gotham, I guess.

Goddamn, I can't stop vomiting over how popular Bane is, considering he was the shittiest new Batman villain of the 1990s. I really hoped he would get swept under the rug but then that hack director thought he'd make a great villain for the third act.

They both fulfill different roles.
But the bad quality argument is a load of shit. Droid style arms and ninjago skelly arms ALWAYS break. They do this just by sitting on a shelf, it happened to pretty much ALL of mine. The googly arms skeletons i have from me and my brothers roughly played childhood and after years in a scrapey tub-o-lego are all completely intact after all these years.

I ranted about this once on /tg/ so this is copypaste

>As someone who lived through the Great Comic Book Crash of 1993, I can state with confidence that this is not a new business model.

>hey guys what if we kill Superman
>but not really
>we'll make a new character just so we can have it kill him
>wow that sold a lot of issues
>What if we kill Batman now
>but isn't that just a ripoff of the Death of Superman idea
>I know, we'll make a Batman version of Doomsday, and then he'll just break his back
>wow that sold a lot of issues

>As someone who was into capeshit in 1993, the neverending tide of Baneposting on 4chan is a constant hell for an old guy like (me)

>He was born in a South American prison where he heard about Batman and Gotham, so he thought if he defeated Batman all the karmic energy of Gotham would flow to him and make him rich, so in order to train he did A THOUSAND PUSHUPS every day and A THOUSAND SIT-UPS every day and read A THOUSAND BOOKS from the prison library wtf

Basically, to me, Bane is everything that was wrong with the comics industry in the early-mid 1990s, and the fact that Nolan thought highly enough of the character to make him the central figure in his third Batmovie bothered me when it was first announced, and chafes my heiney every time someone replies to posts using the phrase "[adjective] [noun]" with "FOR YUUUU" because it reminds me of what a shitty character he is FOR ME.

tl;dr I'm butthurt

>>
>>6156228
If feel the issues the brought Bane and Doomsday started before that. In 89 Venom was made. Venom was the unltiamte anti-Spider-man foe all his powers but "better" even immunity to Spider-man's edge in battle, his spider sense. He was stupid popular and it lead to a pile on of clone rivals that were greater in might than their heroes. This spike in demand lead to Bane and Doomsday. They were just the last nails in the extreme evil counters of heroes of that time.
>>
>>6156154
His silly voice for the most part and the fact that the third movie put me off the whole Dark Knight trilogy.

My problem with Bane is that it took a good story about Batman struggling with drug addiction and turned it into a meat-headed, "Winners Don't Use Drugs!" cartoon. Pic related.

It's a display case. I have one of the not branded ones and it's fine. Obviously bigfigs won't fit, and some of the taller minifigs like the princess and wizard from CMF 12 won't fit on a baseplate. Not sure if this one has the same dimensions.

You could build your own, custom sized for bigfigs and minifigs with wings, big accessories, whatever; it'd only take a bunch of plate and panel pieces.

Might be more expensive to bricklink those than to just buy this thing, though.
>>
>>6156358

I did. Sort of.

We lived in an area with very few trees, and the ones that we had weren't large enough to support the weight of a treehouse, so when I told my parents that I wanted a treehouse like the ones the kids on TV had, he went out and got some telephone pole logs, drove them into the ground, and mounted a small shack on top of them (no door, I just used an old blanket that I nailed to the top of the doorframe). He also made me a wooden ladder.

It was fun until the hornets started building nests in the corners of the inside.

Later, he took it off the poles and used it as a warming shed for calves.

You need to wait for your local stores to start clearing stuff out. If you miss those you've missed the best deals. It may take you going in every day to see if anythings changed. Lots of clearances aren't announced on websites or weekly flyers. It takes a lot of time and a little luck.

>You've been building some terrific stuff lately, LQ. It's been cool to see how your skills have developed.
Thanks, that means a lot! It's funny, I was just browsing /tg/ one day and saw a still from a cartoon I liked as a kid, and suddenly this whole setting concept just exploded in my head.

A year ago I was pretty sure this was the best car I would ever be able to make, but now it doesn't really fit in with my newer groundcars because it's so blocky and SNOTless.

im a person who likes bane, and i agree with most of what you said, breaking the bat was/is a shitty trope, and he's quite often bad

but every so often he is well written, and as a character, i feel like the idea of "a character that is batmans equal, but isnt good" could be well written. to me bane SHOULD be another path batman could have taken, down a road slightly more insane.
batman does martial arts, bane does wrasslin
instead of tech, venom
deduction, force
rich city, poor island nation

i cant remember what series it was, but i liked bane when to defeat batman, he became ra's henchmen, and fell in love with talia

but this is /toy/ and lego general not /co/ and batman general, so i'll TL:DR with

i like bane, and i really really want this bigfig, so him and killer croc can be friends, and i'll probably make them a lego tea party
>>
>>6156514
noice. its not a set i like nor would want, but i would pick it up for 100, for the same reason i love friends/elves sets, theres a shitton of small decorations, and thats great
>>
>>6156533
old toys go on clearance early/mid january, new stuff moves them out, and space needs to be made

late q4 stores dont sell much, since everyone already bought what they want a month prior on big sales, so they dont bother marking things (especially new things) down

if its not already gone, then it wont go on sale till closer to easter (which should be the next big sale period)
>>
>>6156545
a bunch of walmarts in canada where clearing out a bunch of sets, including krennics for 60 dollars. my local walmart in canada? no sales, fuck you
>>
>>6156554
You present a very well-laid point, and I agree that this is not the appropriate board for discussing the matter.

My final statement on the topic is that I don't like how the character was created and rushed into the story just to make sure that Batman's temporary x-Treme replacement could make his debut in the embossed gold-foil cover three-times-the-regular-cover-price-with-fewer-story-pages Issue #500.

Can't wait to see pics of your tea party!
>>
>>6156565
I kind of just want to get a credit card with price protection so I can buy lego full price and refund if it goes on sale/clearance later, but the only cc I can see with that only allows 4 instances per year, which seems pretty low
>>
So i bought Joker's Notorious Lowrider literally the minute it was put on shelves right.
I come into the same store today and guess what, shit was marked down by 15 yurodollars for fuck you reasons. Pretty much all other batman sets were marked down 15% too. But even though the purple catbike has some neat pieces, i couldn't get myself to buy two of them for 27 a pop to get a full set of purple rims. Do you guys think the minifigures are easy to resell atleast?
Then i saw they had the pizza mama mia van and i bought just because it had 4 trans orange 1x1 plates to mod my camaro. I mean the set is pretty cool, but i might have a problem.

Also i got a certain package from ages ago wich really made my day. I'll whip something up with it.

>>6156590
It honestly wasn't that big of a deal. Ofcourse it would be more efficient if i just plan shit out and exclusively use bricklink (i mainly moc). But every once in a while i want to support LEGO directly. Since they absolutely outdid themselves with the lowrider and created a set that catered to me this much even though i don't care about the batmans, i felt it was fine to show support and buy it day one.

>>6156589
The pizza thing was a bit of a joke, i actually liked quite a few of the new sets they had for a variety of reasons but wanted to stick to just one 20 yurodollar set after doing an exam. But the fact that this set had more pieces i could use for finishing old mocs caused me to buy this one. (the other contender was the med azure robot, but then i would just start ANOTHER project around the light-brick instead of finishing up an old one)
>>

There are actually a lot of small style cowboy hats, Joker style is the smallest, those in the video are likely based off the Black Hawk cowboy hat know for it's collapsible ability so as to hide it when indoors, it was the most common for Rangers in the late 1800s.

Anyway, if you want to know how the series is, I can tell you'll be receiving some bricks in cool trans colors, cool looking villains that can make interesting OCs and some action features that make everything very toyetic but that i don't know if you, as an adult, will appreciate. personally i do.
and the mech sets have those nice new joints that can be useful.

so far the only thing I don't like about Nexo Knights are the titular characters, but even they come with cool pieces to make sci-fi armors.

AFOL entitlement.

Kids love vehicles, TLG makes money by catering to what kids love. Some adults prefer buildings and seriously believe that TLG should release sets that will hurt their profits, just because fewer than 1% of their market audience wants them.

A lot of the ninjago and nexo vehicles are becoming pretty dumb looking and vehicles in general tend to use a lot of large specialized parts
It's ok for kids to like them, but AFOL's have good reason to be tired of them
Also they make vehicles as well because a mid priced vehicle set looks better than a mid priced building set in terms of size and being a complete object

Adult fans want more buildings, but seem not to realise that building sets that aren't top-price like Prison Island, or UCS-price modulars aren't going to be very satisfying as an adult either.

See: MARVEL Tony Stark's Malibu Mansion, Ninjago Kryptarium Breakout, etc
>>
>>6157386
Funny thing is that most of the buildings and playsets aren't really that good. From Kryptanium Prison to Assault on Hoth.

Sure, there are some good ones, but most of them are 100$ or over. Cheap playsets that are actually good are pretty rare

Question : Is there any length ideal I am supposed to limit myself to? It's 20 studs long, will this kill proportions next to other speed champion cars?

I've always held that you can build a lego-vehicle not a vehical out of lego. Even the best replica betrays it legoishness Under light scrutiny. And if you want opening doors or seating for minifigs you get a big swollen inelegant thing. that's why I'm a vehicalfag, I like the compromises the medium forces you to make, helps to keep your mind flexible.

That's the fun part of building at minifig-scale for me. You need to try to distill the essence of a specific car down to its replicable features, and run with those.

With this Porsche 930, I tried my best to capture the iconic Porsche headlights, because if I could, then the first glance would instantly scream "Porsche". I'm sure a more skilled builder than me (a low bar, to be sure) could build a more accurate and more detailed replica, but I still like how this MOC ended up.

This is also why I really love the upcoming Speed Champions Chiron set.

If you've ever seen pictures of the Chiron in real life, then you'd know that the Lego model just instantly evokes the sweeping curves that form the side profile of the vehicle. It doesn't need stickers to do this, just bricks.

I love hate the hard factor of trying to replicate a real car in lego while keeping some defining aspects of it that instantly make it recognizable.

After picking up the Speed Champions Camaro and Hot Rod sets, I was hooked I wanted to build more in that limitation, six wide, clearance, defining characteristics, but having that lego fun feel, I love how bashful they are just throw them around they don't just fall apart, which is another build quality I aim for which increases difficulty greatly at times -.-

Cleaned out the Stingray to this in the end

I don't know that it needs the xbox-huge supercharger, though. It might look cool enough with just the sleek, long hood.

Also, if you're still concerned about it being too long, you could maybe chop a stud off the back end of it. As I recall, the C3 had a pretty truncated rear end.

I like the round 1x1 tiles on the headlight bricks that form the B-pillars, they go a long way towards blending the four-wide cabin into the six-wide body.

For you, smoothed out the hood. The hot rod and the camaro both have that nice little engine swap feature, so here this can replace that. Cheers for the comments, I am still considering the rear end, to cut it down a bit or not, after counting it against the black and red camaros it fits right beside them, and would still ride in the trailer which was a feat i was chasing

Have you tried using smaller wheels? Speed Champs wheels and fenders are absolutely gigantic in comparison to a minifig and force you to raise the entire beltline of the car to compensate (you've got one single plate over the fenders!); I've seen lots of people have success just using smaller wheels and either brick-built or no fenders and giving them much more room to work with to shape the vehicle.

They also tend to end up scaled better to the figs themselves if you care about that.

>Thanks but is it a good representative of the entire theme? I want to get one to test the waters.
It's a good representative of this wave of the theme at least; A combining Vehicle where the secondary craft can become an add-on for the Battle Suits, a cool Rock/Lightning villain, and a Squirebot (Dennis, one of the few with a given name).

Lance himself, however, was one of the weaker knights last wave due to his unwieldy weapon of choice, the lance.
While he had plenty of different, interesting builds for them, the fact was they were long pointy things and very few of his first wave sets played into the charging nature of the weapon.

Thankfully this wave seems to be rectifying that, not only with the Twin Jouster vehicle, but also his Battle Suit and exclusive Lance Vs Lightning set, which features a mini-fig scale mecha horse for him to ride.

Ah, well the front end was pinched from the Intercept Orbit's instructions on an Ijad Frigate. Up until that point I just sorta had one of the small bumps you used to see on the underside of the boat sets so that they could slide along the carpet.

And I was hoping to get into Intercept Orbit. Need to drag some people from my club into it first, learn the rules and try and work out how I can build some Culture ships…

If worst comes to the worst, I can just join the local armada scene with my Lego fleet.

I like what you've done with your Frames and what you've done with the broadside guns. Is that a spanner piece clipped on to a rod, or some other lego magic?

Nicely done, and nicely done Battlestar fleet. You haven't thought of trying your hand at some of the Cylon base stars? I think there's a three prong technic piece that you could build the arms out from and some of the longer smooth curvy bits might work for the arms?

Not sure if it'd be as neat as your Galactica, though.

on bricklink is there an easy way to take a set and see if itd be cheaper to order all the parts for and make rather than buying the set new in box?

Nice work (again) on the bridges of the Star Destroyers: I didn't know there was a piece like that. Neat simplification, too: I'd have got caught up in trying to form the hull from two of the base wedges hinged together… but that would just make work.

The arms are a single tube going through the torso allowing you to make it longer one one side. She has normal fig arms but comes with big handes she can hold!

Flying death clamp(s)
Basically an ordinary space fighter made specifically to engage larger ships by charging in and penetrating their hulls with a vicious set of talons- normal guns at long range, but up close, they extend on prongs resembling claws they're held on, and fire/rotate at random into the enemy ships' surface, utterly gouging it out. Against similarly sized fighters it means getting in stupidly close to use what equates to a net to mince the other guy, but since the weapon system is a set of actual guns, you're better off shooting those.

A system adapted from asteroid miners, which would use such tools to make more regular cuts in rocks and lug the cut-off components to refining stations.

Batman movie maker

I'm starting to think the lego batman movie is just a big meta joke by lego mocking how everyting they make has to have some connection to batman

Also this shit costs 35£

Brace yourselves for thousands of shitty youtubr videos made by stupid kids who think they can make le next big hit

this is just lego getting in on an existing market/product range.

Look up stikbots

I'd actually buy that. The phone cradle grabber thingy looks kinda simplistic, but not bad. Maybe we'll finally get the Lego official movie maker app for android. I like Batman, so I'm fully ok with every set in 2017 having a utility belt or cape recolor.

I personally try to keep 6-wide builds around 16 studs long (wich even with wide fenders and tires sticking out can look a bit lenghty from front to back)
I have shorter builds but those can start to look a bit tall when you make them seat two side-by-side.
I started a prototype for a 7 wide build that i'll try to make into a van with the parts of the Mystery Machine to check how the proportions work out for that.

it was discounted for a reason, apprently the box was wet, and the fish instruction booklet suffered the most, though it's still useful.

16-18 was what I was aiming for, I overshot at first, i've cut it down to 18 now, i'm not sure how I feel about the front fenders atm, might try a different pair tomorrow and see what else I can cut on it or smooth out

Batman is a beacon of poor taste, of course cunts with low standards are gonna lap up every half-baked piece of shit with his name on it.. Lego would be fools not to cash in on this

This is so bad, it is great.

I hope he trains on "Never gonna give you up!"

You're right, this is LEGO getting in on an existing product range.

Look up LEGO Moviemaker, a set that's older than most people here.

Thanks anon, torso just came in with my last cracklink order, head came from the sweepings bin at the MoA Lego store.

Your potato camera sucks.
And your mech is a mess.
No clear silhouette at all.
>>
>>6159160
I second this.
Maybe use the Jurassic World bubbles and put 2 engine pods off to each side, each with a skinny grabber arm? Kinda similar to those things in 2001: A Space Odyssey.
>>
>>6159387
Those control sticks ought to be connected to something.
>>
Anons that build large ships, space or otherwise; how do you start?

I'm wanting to build both a spaceship and a regular sailing ship, but I never actually know how to start off so I just end up doing nothing and getting frustrated.
>>

Just like irl, build a hull first. Google a cutaway of the ship you want.
