Where to buy
>GSC Online Shop - some figmas only are available through their online shop
>Amiami - usual place for buying, to some people, shipping is a bit higher due to packaging
>Hobby Link Japan shipping is usual lower, but their prices are a bit higher, private warehaouse is available
>Hobby Search Japan - items stay in stock the longest
>Mandarake - search figma or フィグマ
>eBay/Amazon - only if you hate having too much money. Avoid bootlegs, you can spot them as 'Chinese version'
>http://jungle-scs.co.jp/ - Seems like you can fine some good deals here
>Check the BST threads, My Figure Collection for any offer/deal

Anyone have some custom figma they've made? Any tips on doing it?
>>
>>6144073
I've made abominations before, but not using figma- just cheap broken things. That made me realize trying to customize a figma wasn't within my skill level.

Practice a whole lot on cheap broken shit first. This goes double for painting.

If you need to do a lot of sculpting, you could try Aves Apoxie Sculpt- it's easy to work with and pretty strong. It will stick to most plastics with a minimum of prep.

Am I the only one having issue's with Leonidas' shield?

His forearm seems too thick for the armband so it will only peg into one of the two slots at a time but not both
>>
>>6144464
Nah, a few reviews and anons reported that. I found that dipping the piece that surrounds his forearm into medium to hot water softens it so I can apply it over the arm and then the shield then placing those parts into cold water managed to make a solid fit once the forearm piece was embedded better around the arm and the pegholes of the shield.
>>
I'm such a fucking stupid piece of shit, I had the Saber 2.0 re-release in my cart on ami-ami but forgot to actually pre-order it and now the pre-orders are sold out.

I didn't know that was a thing that could actually happen, I figured they'd wait to see how many pre-orders they got before printing them, is this how things usually go? I'm new to figure collecting.

Well what series are you into? There's probably a figma somewhere either in anime or video games. Otherwise Saber 2.0 is a fun general figma but I put Ninja Slayer (original) on top with all the accessories so you get a quite a bit bang for your buck out of a single figma.
>>
>>6144729
I've already gotten figmas of the series I'm into that have figmas, which is why I'm out of figures to buy even though I want to get some more.

Just asking for general good figs to see if any of them catch my interest is all.

Well on top of Ninja Slayer and Saber 2.0 I always feel tempted to recommend Aegis from Persona 4 Arena to be a fun general figma to have. Good display potential and her alternate colorway really pops.

Otherwise my last choice would be the Silent Hill Nurse figmas. The paintwork is superb given the source material they had to deal with and the optional heads gives a little extra fun to me.

Annoyed they upped his price but let's be honest...you aren't getting a cheaper one on the aftermarket. If the exchange rate doesn't nose dive by then you also aren't paying much more than you did back when he was released. He was like $45 + shipping and it's looking like he will be anywhere from $47-50 + shipping now.

I'd be more annoyed if Shielder got a 900 yen price hike literally 3-6 months after release with a re-release.

overpriced generally, overpriced shipping. Figures come in fine condition.

Most recent purchase was from them. Paid decent prices (very near MSRP), came in perfect condition. My one gripe is that they package cushioning with newspaper rather than what HLJ or Mandy do.

True, no one really cared for school-uniform Shirou other than to be a completionist. The idea of a new Archer arm was just something I slapped on while writing that post.
I really just want a more modern looking Archer, though, I appreciate the original's look more after reading the VN. Coatless Archer with more weapon accessories would be cool too.
>>
>>6143777
>>6143780
>>6143781
Thanks for those shots of UKYO Miku. You made good use of her wild hair to sell that "blowing in the wind" look. The printing on her, bike decals and sculpt everywhere look great indeed, on top of that nice articulation.
As for the tiny pedals, I guess it's just the team's style. At such a high level I imagine not having big blocks for pedals can allow for a more responsive sense of control, once you learn how to use them that is.

Now all that's left is to see just what they do with the Nendoroid, whether one is a collector of them or not. Part of me is hoping they might sneak in a figma-usable helmet since the art has her holding a helmet way too small for a nendoroid.
>>
>>6144701
Wow this chick looks cute, I might preorder...

>5800 yen
What the fuck?
>>
>>6145163
Welcome to the new figma standard. Accessories drop, prices rise.
>>
>>6145167
This makes me upset.

Such a great looking character yet its gona cost me 50 dollars to buy another generic anime schoolgirl when in the past it was 30ish. Ffs the preorder thing also makes me mad. A new facial expression or another clothing like a scarf would be tons better than a fucking scruncy.

I'm pretty peeved off.
>>
>>6145163
The days of hype buying figma you think are cool or cute are over. The prices are going so high for any figma with a decent spread of accessories that you need to really LOVE the property.

Even properties I love I find myself not ordering and then later finding them sold out or the price has gone up which justifies my desire to not order it even more.
>>
>>6145174
Christ, nearly the reason I buy figures in the first place I'll have to toss out the fucking window. I can see what youre saying is accurate with all these people preordering the Berzerker shit.

Still bullshit they're now trying to leech money off real fans while the people like me who just like cute or cool things are at least stopped by the price tag.
>>
>>6145120
Fingers crossed for a 2.0 reveal at wonfes
>>
>>6145181
The prices have taken a huge jump just in the last month or so. Stuff being released in May is 900+ yen less expensive than stuff released after May. It's ridiculous. It's a HUGE jump and we've already had several huge jumps in the past year. With that said even some of the stuff in May is a rip off. That Persona 3 MC comes with basically nothing, meanwhile Link DX comes with a shit load of stuff.

Also it doesn't help that AmiAmi isn't honoring discounts like it used to. They are looking for any reason they can to jack up prices. Basically if you don't order DAY FUCKING ONE chances are the discount will drop down by 3%, then if the figure sells really well pre-orders will either close or it will go to full price or both. AmiAmi isn't keeping pre-orders open as long either which means either GSC is making less figures or AmiAmi is just looking to justify higher prices.

HLJ isn't really being all that competitive either to be honest.
>>
>>6145191
>AmiAmi isn't keeping pre-orders open as long either which means either GSC is making less figures or AmiAmi is just looking to justify higher prices.
I think it's two fold. After what happened in 2016 -massive shelf warming everywhere- most shops in general are doing whatever they can to drive sales including creating artificial scarcity like Nintendo. They also obviously want to increase their profit margins by punishing any fence sitters which is a dick move. Have something PO'd for cheap at AmiAmi and want to add another figure later? Well have fun paying full price PLUS Japanese sales tax! Yes, AmiAmi is now charging foreigners Japanese sales tax which makes them 800¥ to 1000¥ more than HLJ at full price when you factor in shipping.

I think GSC is also trying to create artificial scarcity by closing PO's much earlier than they normally would even if the demand for more is there. It's better to sell out completely before release rather than be left sitting on excess stock for months on end. They make a bit extra to cover defects and give stores a bit of extra stock but not enough to shelf warm heavily. This unfortunately means smaller runs and higher prices. I believe Void is priced like he is because it's a limited run and it's also why he sold out early despite his huge price tag. I believe these recent price hikes are also partially related to this new strategy. It's all about generating panic induced buying on both a retailer and manufacturer level. Because does anyone seriously believe Guyver III is selling so well it should be sold out at multiple shops and have it's price raised at AmiAmi SIX MONTHS ahead of release? I sure don't. It's abnormal as fuck unless some of what I said is true.

It's pretty nice, GSC didn't fuck up her face although it's a bit realistic and the posability is really nice despite lacking a separate hip joint

Its kinda lackluster in accessories but the ones it comes with; are ok

They don't illegally mark things down to avoid customs if that's what you mean. If you deal with customs and custom taxes normally then AmiAmi won't change that for you. If you're from countries that don't have customs or custom taxes then don't worry about it.

It's a removable torso so it's possible the moron who put it together forgot to put the piece back on. If not...they have drastically altered the design, made it look worse and of course it's inaccurate. That floating piece helps reduce the pot belly effect and also covers up some gaps

If this piece truly is missing from all copies and GSC refuses to send out the missing piece for free I will cancel it even though I desperately want a Gilgamesh figure. This kind of mistake on a figure this expensive is unforgivable. The paint job isn't looking so hot but the lighting in these pics sucks badly even compared to this shot here. Of course the joints look way duller than this prototype as well but I kind of expected that. When don't figma joints look dull?

It's like I traveled back in time when Samus was released. Are you guys new to the figma game or something? This happened with every single armored figma with metallic paint ever. Even the highly regarded Saber 2.0 is exacatly the same when you compare it with the official pics.

Figma Gilgamesh has exactly the shade and shine of paint I was expecting, and I'm perfectly fine with it. In the official drawings the armor never looks that shiny, and if I want to look at a shiny Gil I already own the Chogokin.

Gold in promo pics is a lot more reflective than the (true) prototype.
>It's still your damn fault for expecting Max Factory to do something with this figure that they never ever did before
They've literally done it with the gold on the first Figma Iron Man. That isn't the first figure with a candy paint job either (Scarlet Rain, but with candy red instead of candy gold)

Again, quit making excuses for a figure that runs for, what, 9800 MSRP? Why are you whiteknighting them so hard?

And I can easily tell that the difference between the gold on that Ironman and on Gilgamesh isn't going to be that much when having both in hand.

>Again, quit making excuses for a figure that runs for, what, 9800 MSRP? Why are you whiteknighting them so hard?

Again, I'm not excusing anything. After pretty much every figma with metallic paintjobs on pieces of armor and weapons (off the top of my head some Nanoha ones, various Sabers, Samus, Animation Ninja Slayer) I was expecting exactly what we got.

Seems to me that you want everyone to be as disappointed as you with this figure, sorry to disappoint you (again) but that's not my case. If they totally fucked up the proportions, faces or whatever I will be as vocal as any other about those problems, but as far as paint goes this is what everybody should have expected from the very beginning.

If you want a shiny ass Gil you can always buy the Chogokin, it looks fine when displayed with figmas.

"Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me". I hope you guys have learned your lesson. Do you know how candy paintjobs work? It's a silver base layer, with a clear paint layer (eg. clear yellow) over it. Typically sealed with a gloss coat. That first Figma Iron Man actually has it, Gilgamesh and the recent Iron Man release does not.

Bandai also did the same thing with Figuarts Garo, which looks almost similar to how Gilgamesh looks (gold paint versus silver paint -> clear gold). If you were to compare mustard gold Garo with the newer Garos that actually have the candy gold paintjobs as advertised, the differences are night and day in-photos and in-hand.

It's not that everyone has high standards for expecting something pretty basic, especially for one of the most costliest Figmas, it's just that you have piss-poor standards. 2chan is also disappointed with how Gilgamesh is turning out.
Get some standards nigga.
>>
>>6147743
I actually prefer this paint job because this paint will be more durable in the long run and will allow for more even applications

>>
>>6147820
>I actually prefer this paint job because this paint will be more durable in the long run
If you have a problem with candy schemes scratching up or something, then you either treat your stuff like garbage or you're a piss-poor modeler. Enough said.

Perhaps you should actually seal your models with a finish, eh?
>>
>>6147817

Of course it would look shinier if they actually decided to use a candy painjob on it, but just looking as the track record of Max Factory you can see that they almost never use that method and just go for simple metallic paint that always looks more flat, even more so when you take a picture of them using the camera flash and the shine completely disappears. I've never said that it couldn't be done better, I'm just saying that as I was expecting something like this to happen, I can't really feel disappointed or fooled.

I also believe that Gilgamesh isn't going to look that mustardly in hand. Seems to me this is exactly the same case as Samus, she doesn't look as shiny as the promo shots but it isn't bad at all.

At the very least there's the Chogokin for the people who want a shinier Gilgamesh. There are other options here.
>>
>>6144947
asui when>?
>>
>>6147813
Noone really expected them to cheap out like this considering the super premium price
>>
>>6147844
You're still missing the point.

The problem isn't just that 'Gilgamesh is less shiny', but the fact that Max Factory painted him in a completely different method as always advertised.

It's one thing that a silver paint is different from another silver paint (in the case of Saber, and many other figures for example). It's a completely other thing for something to be painted 'normally' instead of a candy finish.

If Gilgamesh ended up still retaining the candy finish but was more dull, then you'd be in the right. But that's not what happens in this case, it's Max Factory baiting its consumers and then swapping with a much cheaper method.

It's not just something that doesn't happen to look as shiny as its promo material, which has been your excuse for Gilgamesh turning out like shit.
>>
>>6147281

>>

>>6147857

Figmas already cost way more than back then even when they include jack shit for accesories, so it's logical to think that Gilgamesh is expensive because they included a figure and a half in the same box, not because it was going to have an amazing paint job.

If they decided to use a candy paint job like that other anon suggested on it I'm sure the thing would cost no less than 13000 yen.

i collect kamen rider stuff, and bandai does that all the time without the price jumping significantly.

for a 9000yen figure, you would expect it to have such a paint job. especially if it always had it before the one-minute change (when people already secured their pre-orders and are kinda screwed)

Yes, what Max Factory is doing here is bait and switch. I never said otherwise. And, again, I'm not defending this practice.

But you are still missing my point: that this is still the very same case as what happened with Samus four years ago (proto Samus was also painted with the candy finish that the actual figure lacks), and there's still people who seem to be unable to learn something from all of this.

I already said this before, "Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me". If this was the first time Max Factory has done something like this I would understand all the people getting mad here, but that's not the case. One should learn from past experiences unless they want to be fooled over and over again.

>i collect kamen rider stuff, and bandai does that all the time without the price jumping significantly.

I also collect Bandai stuff and own some Kamen Rider figuarts, but we're not talking about Bandai here, but Max Factory. You can't really apply the same logic on both, just look at the ridiculous prices of the Berserk God Hand Figmas. That's why I believe that a Gilgamesh with better paint would cost way more than 9000, even if it shouldn't really be that expensive.

>have the Chogokin

In case anyone's wondering, the Chogokin kind of sucks as a toy. It's very pretty and heavy and all that, but it poses like shit and isn't really satisfying to mess around with. That's mainly why I'm getting the figma.

Also, I always thought the promo shots just looked like gold paint. Compared to the Iron Man promos he just looks like a dull gold, so I guess I expected it.
>>
>>6147586
I could absolutely see Bandai reissuing it in light of this whole situation (and the general Fate hype right now). It wouldn't be the first time they've gone out of their way to shit on Max Factory - just look at the Ryuki SHFs they made after Max Factory used a loophole to make Kamen Rider Figmas, or the Bruce Lee they announced once the Figma had gone for a while without getting released.

You wonder why people haven't learnt from a figure from 4 years ago?
Companies change in 4 years, people also forget a singular figure and the paint issues because this issue doesn't come up as often with Figmas. It's only a bigger issue lately with Iron Man and now this other figure in a short time frame, so it's still fresh in the minds of people.

Yes, there are hints in the past that this would be likely but they have being so few and far between that it's understandable people might forget.
Looking back on Samus the difference between promo and in hand doesn't seem anywhere near as drastic as the Iron Man going from Metallic to something that looks like Hasbro plastic.
I guess from this point though, people will be aware of this paint issue alongside the inability to sculpt real life faces.

Personally I only barely recall a small shitfest in regards to the Samus Figma so I'm not surprised some people have forgotten.

Don't know about that, man. Samus was released in 2012 and rereleased two more times in 2013 and 2014, and each time it had the same paintjob different from the promos. It was also the start of the /v/ shitfest and namecalling that got worse when Skyward Link was released. If there's a figma difficult to forget here on /toy/ is that one, actually.

>The main appeal was the fact that it's a Figma Gilgamesh.
Cool and you're still getting it anyway. Given Figma's track record with making Fate figures, I'm just stumped at the reaction over the "dull" gold when that's how Max Factory has been painting most of their armored Fate characters for years now (even the Saber 2.0). In this regard, I don't get the people who were expecting Iron Man Mk7 levels of "shiny" finish.

>Many people don't have or want the Chogokin, especially at its current price tag.
Maybe if you're a latecomer, sure. It's not Bandai's fault if people suddenly want it now when it was plenty available at the time. At the same time, it's not Max Factory's fault if people staved off of the Chogokin while waiting for a Figma version.

Besides, I remember a lot of people who wanted a stand-in Gil in their Figma collection buying the Chogokin at retail pricing with very little issues, a lot of which were surprised at how well it fit their other figures. Also given the very little fighting he did in Zero, it's not like everyone expected him to be as dynamic as any of the 2.0 Figma out there given how those didn't even exist at the time. If anything, with it being based on his Zero appearance and all, the bonus inclusion of the cups and jug served to make up for the limited posing.

In regards to the Figma, getting the shirtless look from FHA combined with a more dynamic skirt-cape and articulation scheme were what practically tided me over as someone who already owns the Chogokin, in which I'm sure a number of people feel the same way.

Because the figure in events has always been shown like that until last minute. Why are you blaming people for expecting something that has always been advertised? For a figure that costs 9000yen of a popular franchise, people would definitely expect something that looks like it.

There's a difference between something not looking as nice in the promotional material versus outright false advertising. Why is it an issue that people are upset about it?
>It's not Bandai's fault if people...

Perhaps it was because I knew I didn't have studio lighting so I didn't expect it to look 1:1 to promo shots anyway.
I won't dispute that the paint is different and it's a shame about the differently coloured ball joints.

"...is a warrior's greatest weapon," as a king as awesome as Gilgamesh had once put it (pic related)

On that note, I think 'Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy' was received well in Japan.
In any case, with Sony working with Good Smile here and there, it'd be great to get a J&D TPL figma with all the Eco powers (Jak 4 too, but that's /vg/ talk now)

>>6148839
I know people are just getting it and it's the middle of the week, but I'm surprised at how few shots feature Ea, or the second body. I haven't come across one to show Enkidu fully as yet.
>>
>>6148839
I wasn't expecting it to look exactly like the promo shots but I really wish they'd calm down on the "bullshots" and stick to trying to represent stuff properly. I expect things like sculpts being a tiny bit softer or paint not being 100% perfect but the finish/overall look should be represented honestly.

I feel like in this case it was dishonest. Also the joints not matching is pretty annoying. Yes, I know they don't paint their joints and a perfect match is impossible but they could be color matched a lot better than this and they have color matched better than this in the past. It really feels phoned in for such an expensive release. It's articulated well enough and has enough accessories to not be a total disappointment but he could be nicer.
>>
>>6148848
Honestly, I don't know about that, but the ball joints being the same colour as the armour would've been better. We know it's always a gamble with joints though.
Still it's more shiny in >>6147126 but it also seems a little dull in comparison. I go for Gil I go for GOLD. I'll play Battle for Bikini Bottom if I just want 'Shiny Objects'

>>6148864
Why would we need an Archer 2.0? Saber 2.0 was replacing a five year old mold with a ton of issues that new technology was able to fix. Archer is a new release and while he could be improved upon in areas there is no immediate need to do so.
>>
>>6148429
If it's legit (which it might be because it was an old figure) then congrats. She's pretty great- articulation is hindered by the skirt but otherwise she's superb. Excellent sculpt and sublime paintjob too, especially on the scythe and skulls. One of my favourite Figmas to be honest.

Topic: Is Figma Shimakaze worth picking up? She's about £35 on Mandy, or £45 with the bonus item (whatever that is- extra face?). I've never played/watched Kantai Collection but I love the design.

We don't need it, it would just be nice.

A ''better'' face in the style of Saber, who leaned more towards the animations than the VN, plus his hair down look and smile, along with actual arrows (maybe even effect parts?) As you say Archer's current figma is pretty good, but the coat could be sacrificed for his alternate look (with or without the grey cloak) and themed under Fate/Grand Order.

It's all in the spirit of capturing the character more completely really.

Doesn't seem to affect the price of other scalped figma like Guts, Ryuko, Archer, Saber and many others who've reached and surpassed the 10k mark.

Because scalpers rely on stupid/desperate people to make money. There's not much hype on this particular figure.

Just punch that in to keep up-to-date with the latest Gil stuff. Alternatively replace "フィグマ" with "figma" to see other results.

Damn. That's where I've found one for reasonably cheap (if it's legit) but I have no way of checking it's real.

I'm saying in general but the major red flags are if that figma is from China or is absurdly cheap for what it is. I know that Ironman is pricey aftermarket so know a $20 deal is really sketchy.

The one of the few cases when the promotional picture varies by a huge margin from the actual product. Realistic face sculpt has never been figma's strong suit, Bruce Lee, Solid Snake, Indiana Jones suffers from this weird anime-esque aesthetic.
With that said, it can look somewhat decent under certain lighting but not quite worth the price point given the poor amount of accessories it comes with.

I mean ive seen youtube videos of bootlegs, sure its not quality but it makes it no different than an american toy. I guess im a simple man with simple needs, as long as the face isnt fucked up and the joints stay in the pose im fine with it. Besides u can always buy joints to repair them
>>
>>6152444
http://fmshopvn.com/FIGMA-SINON-FAKE_8_101033.aspx

I see the justification but after dealing with the real thing it may just be more doable to save up and settle with the actual figma unless bootleg quality gets to a decent enough quality. The link above shows one but the reason I avoid bootlegs is the possible inconsistency of quality and why I rather vote against it unless you're really strapped for cash and can work to make it look good and hold up. The only other justification is using those bootlegs as spare parts.

That's pretty subjective honestly. I can easily see why some would prefer it, but I can see it the other way around as well.

I personally always liked a deeper gold for Gil's armour and I prefer the hair down look. Looking at Fate/Zero shots, the blue on the figma is more accurate. I could go on and on, but it really comes down to what you want more.

I can't even bring myself to say that the use of metal on Chogokin makes it that much better even visually, because it's just not as accurate to the anime. But if you don't care about anime accuracy then this point is moot. Really comes down to what you want.

All in all they're even. And this is from someone who got Gil's price way, way down thanks to good deals on TOM and saved up points.
>>
>>6151655
>>6151657

The only thing more disappointing than this figure is the lack of effort on the part of Figma to justify its purchase.

Only two faces, without additional accessories (videogame, bag of minimarket for example) and an uninspiring design, it seems that they did not even bother to do it well.

How much Figma became the Japanese version of Mattel?

Well, figures how Fubuki and Tatsumaki It is possible that they can if they can be within the range one expects from Figma (only looks at Slain and Kusanagi), but that will depend on the response that has the figure of Saitama and the level of popularity that will have the second season of OPM, but Definitely figures like Genos, Sonic Speed from Sound and others will definitely be a terrible design if they do not learn from their first mistake: Saitama
