So it was. I looked at a really low-res pic of the box last night and it seemed like the biplane wasn't there. But weren't there rudimentary instructions in the Lego Magazine too? Kinda like how Jango Fett's Slave I alt model (the one that looked like a bug) had instructions in the May 2002 issue

How cool it could be if we lived in a world where Moana sets werent girl-exclusives.

Imagine - a Lego set that is a back of a giant crab that uses shiny Lego-money and treasures.

dude wat
Bonkle sucked back then.
It looked like a bunch of copypasta figures that made of sticks with holes in it.

Now the designs are sleek + they have a shit ton of armor/surface parts to make things that look appealing.

Back in the day i always hated Bionicle because it looked like kids thing. Now it looks way more complicated and cool.
>>
>>6140316
I prefer the old aesthetic. They looked more alien and robotic, they fitted the islander aesthetic better.

I didn't mind the sleek look for hero factory, since that was the aesthetic they were going for with the setting. Doesn't work for bionicle in my opinion.

Because I parted together the 60s Batmobile from the Batcave, and I've been thinking of what figs should I get for it? I don't want to pay arm and a leg for official ones (I know bootlegs exist, but not looking for those right now). The new Mighty Micros Batman looks pretty good, I just have to swap the legs and maybe the head.

I was thinking that TLBM Robin looks pretty good, if I were to just, again, swap the head. Are there any better options around or should I just roll with these?

nearly every detail of this was a concession. In order to fit a minifag at the roof line I couldn't use a reg steering wheel, but it resulted in a better cockpit. The "side mirrors" were added because the fender flares are to dark and broke up the flow of color, and that required the blue slopes directly in front of the windshield. The use of the orange atv fenders up front was just a happy accident that wouldn't have happened if I had the orange cheese grater I couldn't find.

Anyway almost a 918, definitely not a 917 or gt40, but it evokes them, and it's gulf racing colors.

>does anyone else think lego is pricing themselves out of the market

No, because only autists buy non-Lego sets and everything is decent value if you buy during sales.

I'm satisfied in knowing that all the complete sets I own can be sold for 80-150% of their original value if I ever quit. It's a safe hobby. For example, the Pet Shop modular I bought for $250 (not on discount) is now worth $300, used.

The one line not worth buying are the minifigures, which have achieved a kind of bubble in which 4 collectibles are worth the same as 2 regulars plus a truck sized vehicle.
>>

>>
>>6140411
I dont believe this. The boxes usually make sets look big and worth their pricw but when you build them theyre always disappointingly small
>>
>second year of Nexo Knights
>STILL no hairpieces for the full cast

They really cut a lot of corners for giving two of them common ones, but then there's stuff like Axl's mohawk only one set, Aaron's hair being exclusive to keychain and Macy's hair more or less not existing yet.

I want to have a casual crew on my Fortrex.
>>
>>6140453
How long did we have to wait for the ninjago team's hair?
>>
>>6140446
For some reason the most commonly accepted pricing method among people into lego is price per piece.

It's retarded because it discounts if the set itself is any good or not, along with discounting what the pieces are.
>>
>>6140409
>not buying Lepin
>>
>>6140454
I'd love to say until Rebooted (2014), but then again everyone have really common hairpieces.

I'll check if you give me a moment.
>>
>>6140456
I look at it as price by piece, then decide if the set is worth buying based on how unique/useful the parts and minifigs would be.
Even if the set isn't "good", the parts might still be good to MOC or mod stuff with.
>>
>>6140460
>muh minifigs
>muh unique parts
>>
>>6140460
If I want parts or minifigs I'll boot up bricklink and buy them. The only sets I ever really bought as parts packs were loads of mixels, but that's because they were dirt cheap and the ball joints were still brand new, they hadn't hit bricklink yet.

I don't understand the idea of buying a set for it's parts when there's much better alternatives.
>>
>>6140389
Yes. It's worth it alone for Ghost Rider. Everything else is just a bonus.
>>
>>6140460

>buying whole sets for unique pieces and not Bricklinking
>>
>>6140464

Sets over $100 are usually worth it for parts.

Modulars are like double the cost if you bricklink them. I was going to bricklink a 2nd layer for Pet Shop with new parts and it was almost 1/2 of the set at retail price. Used was cheaper, but still worse value than just buying a 2nd modular set.

Checked.

On sets everyone got hair on 2014, except for Nya who had hers on 2011, and Zane with his stupid robot hair last year. Hairpieces for Nya, normal Zane, Jay and Cole in right colors existed before Ninjago even started, so in that regard it was better off than Nexo.

So I'd give Nexo couple of years.

>It's retarded because it discounts if the set itself is any good or not

How are you supposed to put an objective price, which can be used to compare the inflation of LEGO over time, based on an entirely subjective aspect of a set?

I do agree that price per piece is not perfect, but the only other objective (and in my mind best) alternative is price by weigth
>>
>>6140515
>objective price
You can't make an objective price.
>>
>>6140516
The word choice may not be perfect, but my argument still stands

You can't measure a sets subjective aspects, but you can measure it's contents
>>
>>6140520
And the value of it's entire contents is subjective.

Hell, weight would be better if you want it to be more 'objective' because then you're basically just measuring how much raw plastic it has, and you can value that in more concrete terms.
>>
>>6140523
1. Yes, value is subjective, a price at which an item is sold at a specific place at a specific point in time however is not

2. Have you even read my first post on the matter. I clearly wrote that i too think that weight is the most objective measurement, since "piece" has too many variables
>>
>>6140533
>Yes, value is subjective, a price at which an item is sold at a specific place at a specific point in time however is not
But measuring whether a set is a good deal or not by part count is still bad, as it ignores all kinds of things people may value a set for (design, type of piece, etc).

My point about the weight thing wasn't to say that's a good way of valuing a set; it isn't. I and most people don't have plans on melting down our sets to sell the plastic off. I was simply saying it would technically be the most objective. All it does is show that trying to go for an 'objective' price is futile.
>>
Lego has improved tremendously in value over the last 10 years. I remember when City vehicle sets had about 3 pieces taking up 75% of the model; a massive cab brick and a chassis.

Late 90s was good, but there was a precipitous decline in 2000 which coincided with the company being fucked financially. Bionicle saved the company and the modulars - mostly Green Grocer - pushed them into being a literal collectors item.

Green Grocer is a lovely set. Got it on my shelf, but it's a bit dusty and missing some pieces. Need to sort it out.

Not very ethical but if it saves you 20% or 25%, worth it.

>But measuring whether a set is a good deal or not by part count is still bad, as it ignores all kinds of things people may value a set for (design, type of piece, etc).

I think our argument happened due to a misunderstanding.

If I want to measure how good a deal something is, I base it off of the value that item has for me. I need a subjective method, as the thought process is entirely fixated on my personal opinions. In that case I agree, price per piece or price per weight is pretty much useless.

I was however arguing in favor of price per piece/ price per weight based on the inflation argument started by >>6140411 , where an objective price is needed.

In conclusion I'd say both methods are useful in the right situations and completely useless in others.

I'll not continue this discussion, as to not clutter up the thread. Thank you though, I actually really enjoyed it :)

I imagine they are bought though, I've seen auctions for sets hit pretty high marks, so I imagine it's the same for buy it now and bricklink stuff.

If you want to invest in Lego, target the big sets and exclusives. Essentially if you have the money to buy like 10 $200-300 sets and the you sit on them for a few years, you will probably double your money. If you hold them for a decade, you might actually start getting over $1K.

Same is true if you look for seasonal and online-only Ideas like the Research one with women.

Sometimes there's weird coloured parts on bricklink.

Some of them are prototypes or just weird finds that somehow slipped out from lego's clutches (I remember seeing a bunch of marbled bricks, like two colours on someone's flicker. Apparently they were made way back and some of them slipped into outsiders hands.)

But sometimes parts are made in unusual colours for big displays, and when those displays get broken up, the parts are sold. Who they get sold to or whatever I don't know, but that's why sometimes you'll someone with a unique colour part in quantities of hundreds or thousands.

Sup /k/locki fans - i really need an advice of how to clean big and super dusty sets.
Finally went to parents place and took this castle i built when that theme was around.
Want to use it as a display base for Nexo Knights villains figures but damn.
IT IS SO DUSTY.
I dont want my new minifigs even touch those dusty bricks.

How to clean it?
Is tearing it apart and washing with water - the only option? or there is another?
WHAT I WANT:

I want it to be new and shiny. Is it even possible for a set that was under the dust for couple of years? I want it look new so it would fit new Nexo Knights sets..

When it comes to pirates, who are the good guys and bad guys for you?

For me, one crew are the 'good' guys, they're pirates so naturally they aren't altruistic but they're jolly and fun. Then I have an evil crew who are edgier.

Both bluecoats and redcoasts are basically evil empires, and the Islanders are neutral.

Just asking because I've seen a lot of people say they saw the imperials as good guys and the pirates as villains, which I never understood.
>>
>>6141643
>When it comes to pirates, who are the good guys and bad guys for you?
To me the pirates always the good guys.
I think it was like that all the time.
1) good guys-pirates that are just "Having time while searching for TRUSURE :^)"
2) bad guys-the Governor/soldiers that are huge poopyheads that say NO FUN ALLOWED

Pirates is an epitome of crazy childhood dream so they always will be the "good guys"...even if they steal and kill.

Yeah it is annoying. I don't mind Star Wars, but the sad fact is that it can't coexist with a big space theme, since Star Wars is going to define sci-fi completely over the next few years.

How many Castle subthemes have there been that are straight non-magic lowest-fantasy settings?

>>
>>6141881
I don't know, but I think light magic still constitutes 'historical' (it's not like toylines go for accuracy). By light magic I mean the odd wizard or so.

I suppose lego does like to throw dragons in a lot, so that might bog down the number a bit.

Do you guys have actual lego stores in your area? Where I am, the employees actually pre-fondle the bags for you. I usually just do it myself as it's part of the fun, but today I was short on time, wanted a red hood, rolled in, fondled two bags and a guy comes up, asks what I'm looking for and just says oh yeah, we've got them all sorted in the back, two minutes later, I'm walking out with exactly what I wanted.

And I've got 2 lego stores in close proximity, London and Milton Keynes, feels good man.

>>6142043
I could be wrong about this, but I've always thought part of what made Star Wars such an explosion both in 1999 and 2015 was that we'd had nothing big Star Wars-related for at least 10 years before. I mean, yes, we obviously had all sorts of comics, books, video games, etc., but a feature film gets the kind of exposure that those other media can only dream of.

Pretty much what the title states. You can buy (or jew them out of them, if you claim to have bought the set and the parts were missing) various parts directly from LEGO. It's generally cheaper to buy from Brick Link, but I've had luck building minifigures on the cheap using the B&P service.

I heresy'd off the alt face and ordered a Venom torso from Bricklink last night.

It came off decently easy with a few coats of Brasso, then some nail polish remover to get the leftover bits off.

I'd recommend just doing it in one go with nail polish remover, since its a more heavy print and nail polish remover seems to be the stronger alternative to Brasso.

Nevertheless, you should be able to remove the print without all too much trouble, I'm not sure why LEGO ever even put the alt face print on there in the first place, since it looks like shit.

Good question. The microfigs were never a real species of its own. It seems they were just shrinked by Pym-partikel, what you can see with the Ant-Man microfigure.
Otherwise you can find some taxidermits or mummies of them as gold trophies or statues. Kinda bizarre, but some wealthy lego people have bizarre fetishes.

Has there been a consensus on what to call the figures made from the minifig trophy?

For me they are microfigures. Like i wrote in >>6143153
But its debatable if they are their own "species" or just shrinked minifigures. Like the Les petits hommes, if anybody knows them.

Oh. I always thought "microfig" referred to the piece used primarily in LEGO Games, here in the center of pic related.

They're not useless, they're pretty dope if you're into tiny vehicle stuff. Mario Kart/Mighty Micros style.

New thread when? Warum/??

When we reach image limit.
Or when some faglord decides to make one too early again.

A set under $50 probably isn't worth saving, because even if it doubles in value in 10 years, that just means $50.

The sets that are good investments are the $300+ sets, for a few reasons:

1. Very expensive so few people buy them, meaning there aren't many left unopened after they're discontinued

2. Exclusive. The UCS Star Wars stuff isn't sold at Walmart, so the number of people who are able to get one is lower.

3. Popular IP. The Taj Mahal is worth a lot of money these days, not only because it's a huge set but because everyone knows what the Taj Mahal is. UCS Star Wars stuff is a good bet for this reason.
>>
>>6143259
This reminds me of a video I saw once about sealed set value when compared to parted out value.

And if you just wait few years, only polybags are worth it. In every other instance parting out gives you more.

Thanks!

I started making the third member last night but ran out of time so I'll hopefully be able to finish and post the whole tribe tonight.
>>
>>6143264
Is he the track itself?
>>
>>6143259

Bingo.

You need money to make money.

Big sets, licensed sets and exclusives are the safe investments. Big sets in a series like SW or the modulars are the best return earners (likely x3 within 3-5 years of retirement). Green Grocer is now $1500 for a set that was like $200 at release.

thank you!
Its kind of sad. Seems like there is no reason to buy any of sets in term of saving money in future?
Most of them are quite cheap and around 50$.

Kind of...yeah. Every time i search for old 90s-sets from Ebay i dont see them being extremely unreachable in price.

The only old sets that got expensive ive seen so far, are some early 00s bionicle/hero factory/Technic...

Speaking of battle packs, I picked these two up yesterday. Had to try three different stores for the Imperials one.

I found one of the Battlefront Rebels packs buried away in the second store, kinda regret not getting it now.

I think the Lego bug is really fucking hitting me. Over ten years of Lego abstinence, and in the space of three weeks I've bought the Hovertank and these pictured, ordered Battle On Scarif off Amazon, asked for the AT-ST for my birthday and placed my first Bricklinks order for the Shoretrooper leader minifig

Shit's all downhill from here

I think we must make this into a new KLOCKI-MEME.
How much memes Lego general ever had?

1) That meme with putting a City minifig and Bear on every box
2) KLOCKI clown
3) Minifig face that puking into a garbage
4) ...??? (this croc)

Islanders were always good and mostly just minded their own business, Pirates were usually the villains, but I'd play from their perspective usually. Sometimes the blue and redcoats would be stealing the Islanders' treasure for their empires, so you had some of both from them.
