Where to buy second hand Shinkis:
>eBay, Amazon - generally overpriced, but you might get lucky.
>Mandarake, Rakuten - search 武装神姫 and don't trust listing images.
>Yahoo Japan Auctions, Suruga-ya - you'll need a proxy if you’re not in Japan.
>Taobao - some shops ship international now, so you might not need a proxy.
>Amiami, Jungle-scs - occasionally get some preowned.
>Check the BST threads, My Figure Collection, and Busou Shinki World too.

I have a feeling that this will help me ease out of the money pit of buying guns too. Def gonna start ordering more kits and add ons. Megami devices look interesting too. Shame i didnt have the paints to add on the little details though.

You don't need much in the way of paints. Something as simple as 3 primary colors, white, black, maybe metallic silver for gun finish or drybrushing. No more than they need, a pot will last you quite a few models.

Even if you don't paint, a quick round of panel lining with a Gundam pen(or other .3mm or smaller ink pen) and a matte or flat finish topcoat would do your girls a world of good.

Anything on how to make skirts like these? I've been wanting to make a skirt for my Jinrai.
>>
>>6140102
I imagine you measure the length of the skirt, cut a circle out of cloth about that radius, cut a slit in the circle and cut out enough of the center so that you can fit the peg between the waist and torso through it. Make it into a cone shape and stitch it to hold it in that shape, put it in between the parts.
>>
The blank face from Taobao are resin recasts, right? How grainy are they out of the box?
>>
>>6140118
This, basically. You can trial-and-error a skirt pretty easily just eyeing it. Look up (human sized) skirt patterns and learn from them if you wanna do it right. Also look up instructions for a pleated skirt if you like that look.

Scratchbuild from MSG parts
>>

Do you know which parts?
>>
>>6140335
Not sure but those tails are C-line (2.0mm?) and C-line + pipe cover (or whatever that "zaku-like" pipe was called)
Bot are cheap and easy to get on HLJ.com and other online shops
>>
>>6140313
Both look like they use a piece of wire as the interior. Gourai's uses one of the cables from Koto's MSG Cable set, cut up into the individual segments and with a hole drilled through the center to put the wire through. Jinrai's looks like a spring from their Spring Unit 3.0mm set. Both tailtip parts look scratchbuilt.

I bought a master airbrush brand vent booth, but it arrived with a huge dent. The outer box was great, but inner box had 5 inches of intrusion, like someone literally dropped it onto the curb from 2 stories up, then put the dented box into a shipping box.

Amazon's return service was seamless, and I was able to return it at no cost to myself. I decided to use the money I got back to build my own booth after that. Nothing fancy, since I'll be moving after 18 months and will likely have to toss it.

I've been testing it out this week while on pto and I'm really enjoying it. was fun to build and fun to use.

the airbrush compressor and brushes are the generic master airbrush ones, but they seem to be working really well. This is the first time I've airbrushed, so take that with a grain of salt. I do feel that the paint goes on smoother than when I used cans tho.

I plan to use it for all the muscuto kits, megami devices, MGS and gunpla stuff.

Oh let me give you a good tip. If you buy anything else for your AB, I mean anything else, buy 2-3 hoses or a really long one and put as much hose between your ab and your compressor, it'll cut down on the moisture you'll get if you ab for too long and it makes the surging / dotting you get go way down. They're really really cheap, you can even pick them up at Harbor Freight.

For anyone breaking their Materia's wrists, it seems half the Megami Device ones are the same mold, so you can use one of the extras you have from the MD kits to replace the broken ones.

>>
>>6140415

I keep thinner, water, and windex in them for my ab to flush it. They're great bottles for that. Plus if you knock them over, they don't get everywhere.

Plus the product itself is good. I got some of their brand new salsa they just launched just today.

What kind of fan did you use?

Water traps work great but they aren't 100%. I had a hobby pump exactly like yours, I live in FL so the humidity is bitching here and I would get moisture spitting in about 45 mins and have to quit for the day. Going from 5' to 25' extended it to about 2 hours just cause it's tough to blow water up a coiled hose.
>>
>>6140378

It's a 5 gallon with two .5hp motors. It's super quiet and with a 5lb tank, I can turn it on for 60 seconds and airbrush for hours without it ever turning on. It may be big but it's quiet and if anyone is about to buy a new compressor, skip the $100 hobby pumps and get this one, it's $125 and can get free shipping with a Prime trial.

it's a VenTech VT DF-6 DF6 Duct Fan, 240 CFM, 6" with some silicone working to cover the exposed wires. The master airbrush booth moves 4CFM. a bathroom vent 80 cfm. this one did 240 cfm with a somewhat thicker filter in between and so it works pretty well. I can see it move the paint in, but not so much that its pulling dust onto what I'm painting.

I don't know how long it'll hold out for, but at 25 dollars, I'd be happy if it lasted me several kits.

decibels are about 70 (the level of playing music) 12 inches away, 50 across the room, and 30 (a quiet library) in the next room. I thought it'd be too loud, but I listen to music when I'm modeling so it doesn't bother me, and my neighbors haven't complained. It's kinda like background white noise really.

>>6140522
that's actually really well priced and quiet. My duct fan's louder. I bought my compressor some years ago when I was in NYC apt living standards where you pay for smaller things. if I had the option, I would've liked to go for your compressor with the tank.

Thanks! I tried a tri-color pattern in this one that I initially based off pic related, but I wanted a white base and more funky polygons.
I don't know about tips, since most of the work was just basic masking and airbrushing, but I guess the most important thing is to not to thin your paint too much, since runny paint seeps under masking tape and makes the lines look a lot less crisp.

The whole THIN YER PAINTS thing applies mostly to handbrushing than airbrushing though, since it's nigh impossible to spray paint right from the bottle.

>Looks like you started with a black base coat, then grey and light grey?
>Doesnt the previous coats bleed pretty badly if youre going from dark>light? How many coats did you do per layer?

I wanted a white base for this color scheme and it's a lot less work to mask than if I went light > dark.
Bleeding wasn't too much of a concern for me anyway since all the armor pieces were painted in the same sequence.
I pretty much just eyeballed the number of coats but it was something like 2-3 coats with 6-7 passes per coat.

I don't get it. Why are they splitting their Busou Shinki know-how and stuff into the FA:G and Megami Device lines? Why didn't they try to keep it as one thing?

in b4 Megami Device animu
>>
>>6142611
FA:G is a spinoff of their own Frame Arms mech line. Megami Device is an Apsy/Humida original.
>>
>>6142611
Beyond what >>6142613 said, they're promoting interconnectivity between their various lines. The Gigantic Arms extension kits for Frame Arms have connectors meant to go with their upcoming Hexa-Gear line, for instance. Megami Device and FA:G similarly share connector ports and a lot of basics of their body structures, and the interconnectivity is an advertised feature.

Because everyone's free to take their own shot at the whole robot girl craze?
>>
>>6142613
More accurate to say it's a Apsy/Toriyama/Kotobukiya thing along with whatever artists they can get on board. It's worth noting that Toriyama Toriwo was the producer for Busou Shinki back at Konami, so it's essentially the old team all back together again under a different company. Among all of the lines, that makes Megami Device the closest to a Busou Shinki spiritual successor as we're going to get both thematically (since they're outright supposed to be miniature robot girls whereas Frame Arms Girl is left mostly up to the builder's imagination, with the upcoming anime even being said "one of multiple possibilities" for what a Frame Arms Girl setting might be) and woth the people involved.
>>
>>6142613
>>6142639
I thought the MD and the FA:G comics/drama CD whatevers were pretty much not-Busou Shinki?

So what's with the redundancy of two similar lines with similar premises?

Timeline wise this is my understanding of how things went:

Apsy collaborates with Konami to make Busou Shinki.

Apsy get contracted by Sega and Kotobukiya to create Phantasy Star Online kits focusing around female robots

Konami pretty much drops Busou Shinki after the anime

Taking the experience they had with the PSO kits, Kotobukya takes notice of a demand not being fulfilled and collaborates with Shimada Fumikane to make Frame Arms Girl, both to take advantage of a lack of mecha musume figures entering the market with Busou Shinki's assumed demise as well as to promote their own original kit brand, Frame Arms.

>>6142683 (contd.)

Frame Arms Girl flies off the shelves.

Apsy, who'd been working on a prospective MMS4, Machineca, which would be a body type unhindered by Konami's want of a durable toy for children and had been on display at numerous shows in the hopes of finding a production company willing to take a risk on them, sees Kotobukiya pull off Frame Arms Girl, thinks "these guys might be able to make this!" and approaches them to see if they'd produce Machineca for him. Kotobukiya brings him on board, confident after their experience with Frame Arms Girl.

Kotobukiya also brings on board former Busou Shinki produer Toriyama Toriwo who until this point had been running his own garage kit brand Rampage Ghost after supposed separation with Konami.

Konami takes notice of this and tasks Kotobukiya to produce Arnval and Strarf as model kits. Possibly to fuck with Apsy and co.

Possibly as a backup plan for Machineca in the case Konami pulls out and also possibly as a message to Konami that they won't be jerked around, Kotobukiya, Apsy, Toriyama enlist Shinada Fumikane to design something around the new Machineca bodies to show at the WF alongside the upcoming Shinki Kits. These are the Megami Device prototypes we saw show up alongside the shinki kits.

Shinki kits turned vapor only showing a painted prototype for Arnval and unpainted prototype for Strarf for several events. It might be safe to assume Konami pulled the rug out from underneath everyone for perceived transgressions of Kotobukiya even giving Kojima the time of day with several collabs including a FA and FA:G drawn by Yoji Shjnkawa and even a kit of Kojima Pro.'s mascot spaceman. This is par for the course of how petty Konami can be, remember they also threatened to sue Kojima if he accepted an award for any games he made for them.

First wave of Megami Device releases while Frame Arms Girl continues to grow and bring in new fans, subsequently raking in dough for Kotobukiya.
>>
>>6142690 (contd.)

Seeing how much profit they were making on Frame Arms Girl, Kotobukiya enlists Busou Shinki TV anime studios TBS and Pony Canyon to make a TV anime for them based on the idea that Frame Arms Girls are tiny battle gynoids (sound familiar?) while at the same time writing on official blogs and twitter accounts that this is only one of many possibilities of a setting that Frame Arms Girls can show in and doesn't ever invalidate other fans' views of what they might be. Note that Pony Canyon and TBS have been screwed by Konami in that there was originally planned to be a LOT of merchandise to be sold along with and bundled with the Busou Shinki TV anime that ended up being wasted after Konami pulled the plug on the entire project. The BDBOX bundle shinkis even suffered a lot of limitations, like no armor or extra parts, and delays due to Konami's meddling.
>>
>>6142690
>Konami takes notice of this and tasks Kotobukiya to produce Arnval and Strarf as model kits.
Nah, I think it was Kotobukiya who approached Konami to continue Busou Shinki as model kits. Koto prototyped Arnval and Strarf while still in negotiations and moved ahead with FA:G and Megami Decive as fall back plans.

Frame Arms Girl essentially has no established canon as stated on official channels by Kotobukiya. To translate a tweet I can't grab at the moment since it's been long since buried, "The girls can be 15cms tall or 15 meters tall, the manga and anime is just one of many settings they could be in."

Whereas Megami Device have a VERY explicit setting as 14cm mini gynoids that are produced in year 2046 to year 2047 (the years increse as real life years increase) that help people in homes as well as even having a battle game system that their owners pit them in along with a canonized battle point system. All of that info is available on megamidevice.com, albeit not a lot of it is translated yet. Though I can assure you there are people getting on that. I'm personally sitting on a few unit summary scripts for WISM and the unit summary for the first SOL unit was posted last thread as was the translation for the stat chart.
>>
>>6142707
Masaki Apsy, and therefore Machineca, weren't with Kotobukiya til well after Frame Arms Girl had a few kits released. This was stated by Apsy at a talk show that occured at the WF that they annnounced the Shinki kits and MD kits at. Can't really provide proof of that other than say I was personally there though... sorry.

No you see the F.A.G. union was always engaged in under the table talks and kotobukiya corp fenced off their assets but when the M.D. nation annexed LOL and BRB they effectively culled the masses support and overthrew the Shinki empire. Today we have an amalgamation of sovereign states and an impoverished proletariat of picco neemo who still abide by the sarajevo treaties.

I like to imagine that after the 'mother corporation' that created Shinki went under the designers and engineers decided to carry on and make Megami Device, retaining cross-platform compatibility with classic shinkis.

Here's the translation for her description again:

>A Megami that's specialized in air combat.
>Using the flying units on her back, she accurately shoots target enemies from the air while flying at high speeds.
>Equipped with both a beam gun and beam sword, she has no gaps in close to mid range combat situations.
>By combining armor with SOL Roadrunner, a Megami developed alongside SOL Hornet, she can go into "Full Armor Mode" enhancing her mobility to an overwhelming degree only exhibited by a combined SOL unit. However in this mode, the unit giving up her armor is left unarmored and vulnerable so it is difficult to combine armor in the middle of battle.
>"SOL" stands for "Sonic Operation Lady". They are also among the first Megami to have two designers involved in development at the same time.

I think maybe that's because the master might not show up nearly as often as the FA:Gs. They probably had room in the budget for her to be animated in 2D as compared to 3DCG because she doesn't show up as much.
>>
>>6142836
This bugs me more than anything, that CG looks terrible. I understand that they went to cut corners as much as possible and make the models move at "silky smooth" 5 frames per second but these are BDs and will cost an eye or something, the CG should look nice at least.

>>
>>6142842
I know they're being cheap, but the CGI serves to make the FAGs look more like toys. They're deliberately going for an uncanny valley effect: what's the difference between a human and a toy, and what's the difference between an anime character and a toy made to look like an anime character?
>>
>>6142842
It's being aired on TV, so you'll probably see it on nyaa, assuming one of the many streaming sites pick it up or a fansub group does, before the BDs are even out.

Doesn't really seem like we're going to get much in the way of that for the frame arms girl anime since the master in that seems to be the most normal of normalfags, but I'm still looking forward to it. Anyway, I'm hoping gourai will tear the cannon off her back after running out of ammo and club hres with it since she doesnt have any other weapons

I thought Hresvelgr was out already, but I see she is still on preorder.
What's the official sale date?
I'm wondering if I can get a single shipment with her and MD catgirl

The release date is listed as the 25th on MFC, it should be out within a few hours.

Some places are breaking street date it seems. Some in Hong Kong.

Nah, they're usually pretty rugged for toys.

But it's true that heads and certain armor pieces are prone to falling off. The bodies themselves really are rugged though.

Well most liekly happen based on a store owner in HK is normally that they get sent the goods few days beforehand so everyone in asia can have the same release day. Sometime the shipment is quicker that normal and since most of these hobby stores are kinda small. So they have little storage space hence once they get the goods, they just sell them asap

I'm going to say it

Hres doesn't look good most of the time

imo the artist doesnt draw nice grills which translated into a "bad" model. Hres FA itself is kinda a clusterfuck design by itself so I'll let that slide

Why not? I think she is nice. Her only problem being too much competitors which can be defined cute with more ease.
Also she comes loaded in the kit.
