For those unfamiliar, "Plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model." If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.

***Non-Gundam Group Build***

So this is pretty straightforward, build something that isn't Gundam. I literally do not care what it is, if it's not Gundam it counts (and just to get this out of the way, Bandai is fine). I do not require full paint jobs this time either, as I know the vast majority of people here build Bandai and that's it.

This is also not a prize build, but a regular group build.

>>

so you're waiting for a total stranger to do you a favour?

Here's an idea, the dimensions are listed. How about you get a ruler and measure it out next to YOUR 1/100 gunpla?
>>
Height comparison for cherno has already been posted, Gipsy guy hasn't even built his yet.

If you're looking for some in depth comparison on things like articulation, part separation, etc you are going to be waiting a long ass time because I don't think anyone wants to bother with that.

Not like you can buy either of the two without shelling out for scalper prices now anyways.

>>

You can actually figure this out if you're willing to do the Photoshop legwork. I know all of the following exist, as I have seen them with my own two eyeballs:

- Photo comparison of Plamax Gipsy and Plamax Cherno
- Photo comparison of Plamax Cherno and NECA Cherno
- Photo of NECA Cherno next to MG Gunpla

It's simply a matter of tracking down all the pics and resizing them using the corresponding figures in each, then comping them together in Photoshop. It'll take a little effort, sure, but it IS possible.
>>
>>6136337
You can skip step two and go straight to step three. Photo was posted with cherno next to a zaku II 2.0 which is like the most commonly bought mg ever and a good average for mg height.

It is a pretty easy choice. I've got the HG Turn A, but it really isn't enough to scratch the Turn A itch. The problem arises when I'll be tempted to pick up the far more expensive Turn X.

I'm also really tempted by the HG God Gundam, just because it has such fantastic super robot proportions (and its from the kitschiest series).

Let me try this again but with the picture.

Can I use Gundam Markers to touchup/hide nub marks like in picture related, or should I use whatever brand of paint is recommended as the same color in the manual? Or would I have to just matte or repaint the kit? I read the guide, but it's still frustrating my obsessive issues.

I sand them down, clean with nippers and knife and yet they still show up, so it's a bit of a pain in the ass to want to show off any of my kits like that.
>>
>>6138346
Which I always find funny because Bandai prints the MSRP on the box. I expect to see it for a couple bucks higher in US shops but not by like $10.
>>
>>6138372
If you're getting gouges like that, your form is incorrect. Nip away from the part, shave slices off the top with a hobby knife, then sand.

As to your question, the pain only hides the white, but the indent will still easily be seen.
>>
>>6138378
Similar gouges. Those are Dalongs. But I get what you mean and will give that a try. Thank you.
>>
>>6138372
Some colors like dark blue show nubs regardless of what you do sadly
>>
>>6138378
If you're careful with your nippers you can nip slices off instead of a knife. That's what i do, I've been able to get results that almost don't need sanding. Occasionally.
>>
>>6138376
$10 over retail ain't that much...you shouldn't expect to pay straight retail anyway, remember that the shop also needs to pay to get the items in. I have a little flowchart sorta deal I use to determine pricing for those rare times I shop in person:

>Do I want to have it RIGHT NOW?

>How much does it cost online?

>Is the in-store cost fairly comparable to the cost of the item online + EMS/FedEx shipping?

If it passes the test, I buy it. The way I see it, you need to pay shipping anyway if you get it online, and I am paying for the convenience of having it in my hands instantaneously.
>>
>>6138440
For an hg it is definately too much. Especially if other local shops are only selling it for $3- $5 over retail. And keep in mind that when you buy from places like hlj and amiami you are buying it for under retail price.
>>
>>6138450
I didn't think this needed to be said, since neither of us specifically mentioned grades in our posts, but the amount of overage should vary with the grade obviously. Yes, $10 over is a bit much for a HG, but I probably wouldn't bat an eye much at $10 on a MG.

Also, I apologize for misusing the term "retail"--when I do my little price comparison equation, I do take the lowest HLJ/Amiami price for comparison. ie, not actual retail price.

What's the recommended waiting time between hand painted coats for Tamiya acrylics? >>
>>6138722
Yours looks pretty good. I suggest picking up a grey gundam marker as the black is just too heavy on white/lighter tones.

Also for RGs i find that you HAVE to cut the decals down to size because the excess sticker just looks messy on the detailed look of the RG.

Compare the decals on the skirt flaps between our kits and you'll see what i mean. Granted mine have been top coated too so it blends further in.

What are the best Build Fighters kits?

I picked up the standard Transient, and I was really pleased with it. Looks great, exceedingly few stickers, very poseable, etc. Anything else generally fit these descriptions?
>>

Some of the revive kits have very minimal stickers, gyan and the gundam come to mind. I think they only had stickers for the eyes? I'm looking forward for the revive ground GM.

I have enjoyed the majority of the build fighters kits I've built. The only ones I've really avoided are the ones that are built on very old molds (like the Build Mk.II or Qubeley Papillon). For the most part the whole line seems relatively solid though. Here are some of my personal favorites:

Wing Gundam Fenice
GM Sniper K9
Crossbone Gundam Maoh
Gouf R35
Dom R35
Try Burning Gundam
Gundam EZ-SR
Amazing Red Warrior
Lightning Z Gundam

I also have a soft spot for Denial Gundam, because I love his colors and design and he's a long lanky kung-fu Gundam with a beam ponytail, but note that his ankles are kinda limited. Which is quite disappointing for a martial arts type design.

Oh, Zaku F2000? That's not a Build Fighters suit actually, it came from the short-lived Gunpla Builders anime. But anyway, I've heard nothing but great things about it! It's built on the Zaku F2 mold, which is actually one of my favorites--it's not the most articulated or modern, but it is a pleasingly solid mold.

I actually just bought it last week but haven't built it yet.

Beargguys (and Petitgguys) are kinda a unique build, if you don't mind the """aesthetics""".
Hi-Mocks are cheap; also very few stickers.
Burning variants are fun to pose with that spherical abdomen, great articulation, and the Build Burning is the cheapest.
Sniper K9 actually has all parts needed to build a vanilla GM Sniper II.
EZ-SR comes with lots of parts if you're into that kind of thing, but sadly cannot complete the vanilla EZ-8.
Other than that, I think most of them are ok.

I have a Honoo, currently doing some extra water decals on it, they help detail the large white parts considerably; I think some blue decals can improve the Transient as well. Honoo has the green highlight stickers and the yellow on the rifles.

Exia DM has quite a few stickers, other than the ones behind clear pieces and eyes, there are two yellows for the chest vents.

I've also just realized the Beargguy's only stickers are the eyes.

I'm quite fond of the Jim. Even if it's based on a slightly older kit, I believe?

But then, I'm a sucker for the fat-ass yellow kits. Make it yellow with feet wide enough to stand on one leg, and I'm probably going to buy it.

Might not meet your standards for poseability, depending on your criteria.

I use a #11 xacto knife, a 8.3x magnifying visor and a square ruler when working on the decals.

Whether I cut them on the sheet is determined by how much trimming I need to do. If its a simple straight cut I'll just do it on the sheet, but if its a lot of detailed work I'll take it off, lightly apply it to my cutting mat, then trim it.

As far as symmetry goes, I don't worry about that as it just seems to happen when you cut as close to the decal as possible. Plus once you get it trimmed and in place, then top coat you really don't see it.
>>
>>6139533
It's not really a screw up its just something I learned from working on RGs almost exclusively at first. My first RG was the MK II and I didn't trim at all, now a year plus later all the edges have dust coating them and it looks awful.

I've built almost every RG now so I have experience with a lot of them. Loads of mistakes like broken waist joints and shoulder parts. It's why I learned how to use putty.
>>
>>6139552
>and not just get relegated to the badly drawn manga side story

Yeah, I would really not suggest the manga to anyone. If you like the MS designs just stick with the kits, you really aren't missing out on anything good with that manga.

Wait time between coats of acrylic paints?
Same as enamel: Manufacture recommended 1 hour.
Wait time between an undercoat of acrylic and an overcoat of not-acrylic?
You're waiting five days to a week on that.
Acrylics dry just as nicely as enamels, but are shit on cure time.
As for recommended ratio, Tamiya's official recommended ratio for airbrushing is paint:2::1:thinner, for handpainting I usually fudge up a ratio with more paint/less thinner than the manufacturer's airbrush ratio.

Though yeah, word of warning if you use the Jigan Build Knuckles; With the Hi-Mock's gimmick of being able to use 1/100 scale hands with an insert, the balls for it's 1/144 scale hands are on extra long stems, so the Jigan Build Knuckle hand stems need to be fully extended straight to even to stay in.

The slots in the forearms appear to be identical, so you should be good on the shield thing.

>>6139871
The actual Pledge we use for clear coating is Pledge Floor Polish with Future Shine (name may vary slightly, but be sure you're getting polish). It's also good for tightening joints. You sure it's the look you want though? Pledge gives sort of a high-gloss shine, people commonly use it to dip clear winshields in to make them gleam. If you want a matte topcoat, which is the most commonly used for gunpla, I hear Testors matte spray is a decent cheap one.

According to swannysmodels, Pledge Wipe&Shine is the brand I should be looking for. Tamiya is good but very small and pricy, also super small applicator.

The orange one is just OK and seems to be different chemicals cause it fucking wrecks my nose but does a good job, has a big brush too.

Mercury Adhesives aren't cement but they are still really good and the reason I mention it is that if you have to fill a gap that doesn't line up 100%, you can get super thick versions of this shit and really fill a seam.

Model Masters has the best applicator and you can't spill it. Works as good as any of them and also minimizes the smell to a huge degree.

There's nothing monstrous about simply snapshot ting models; they're hunks of plastic, there's no moral wrong here. >Are we talking hot glue, or "Hot Glue"

Hot Melt Adhesive (I knew someone was going to make a remark about it).

And it's a custom of 6th form. I was testing out he idea on my standard barbatos while I wait for the 6th form kit to come in for the HLJ contest. I basically did what I was talking about earlier and used the face part "Mask" to press into a blob of semi-hardened glue until some oozed up into the eye holes, then cut it to fit better into the mask. It's semi-opaque but lets the light shine through and glows now at least.
>>
>>6140838
That sounds really neat. I'm waiting on my Lupus, but I'm really excited about finally owning a Barbatos at last. I had to make the comment, because this is /toy/ after all. It's like streaming Kung Pow after referencing it, tradition. Happen to have a picture of your Barbatos if you have it painted up currently? I'm quite curious.
>>
>>6140206
I thought the warheads were grey? You could line the circles with a darker color, or even paint them slightly darker or a tad brighter of grey if you do not go with red now.
>>
>>6140877
HLJ contest rules don't let you post WIP pics outside of the contest. And I just said the kit hasn't arrived yet. I'm just in the planning stages at the moment.
>>
>>6140186
>you generally don't wanna topcoat over them

who the fuck said that?
>>
>>6140883
Aw, they don't? So if I were to finish a kit I started on but didn't finish and put it into the contest, it wouldn't count? I posted WIP pics a few times here and on /m/. I thought a contest would help motivate me to finish it but I guess not.

>>
>>6140915
Correct. You also have to have bought the base kit from them.

>>6140917
You cant get nice, clear parts with it, but with some clear color paints over it then it will be good enough for my purposes. It's going to have light from an LED obscuring any swirling or bubbles in the pictures so it doesn't matter much anyways. After the contest I'll just swap the original eyepiece back in.

Nah, that's incorrect.

If you read the rules carefully, they say you don't have to have bought the kit from them--it just needs to be a kit that they have sold at some point in time. ie, you can't use some random third party or bootleg kit.
>>
>>6141055
>When are they going to implement wrist swivels?
Are you sure you know what that term means? Swivels mean the ability to rotate. Aka, what Gunpla have had for ages thanks to their balljointed wrists. I am assuming you mean the ability to tilt up or down for better rifle/rocket launcher holding. Which they have given this mold with those weird "cuff" pieces. See >>6139639 for a pic.

Read the comments in the different categories. They confirm it has to be bought from them or you can't claim any prizes. Some people lost out last year because of this apparently. The rules also mention that you may be asked to provide proof the kit was purchased from HLJ.

at least they now have that builders set of multiple fixed pose hands, but they don't come in a small enough size for the HGUC victorys or f91, so they're still dragging down quality kits with their shithands.

Yeah, I much prefer it this way; With the Default Holding Hands, you have something that can hold a weapon but look semi-decent without one while Bandai saves on precious runner space, plus this gives them more incentive to pump out dedicated hand option kits.

Just got this after months of looking, should I panel line everything on the runner or afterwards? I think the former is easier and quicker but the latter's the proper way to do it.

If anyone's wondering I'll be lining it with a fine permanent marker + rubbing alcohol.

The armor greatly limits his mobility, especially, the legs, which can't be put straight at all. Still a very fun build though, and you have all the parts to make a regular purple zaku F2 inside too.

Swivel means turning or rotating about one axis, so an arm bend would be a swivel. Chairs swivel you know?

And I mean those little ball-shaped hinge joints that let the wrists bend in and out, like on figmas. It would make it easier to hold guns with big stocks and bazookas under arm.

I didn't know it actually came with enough parts to be a regular purple zaku too. part abt its legs cant be put straight is interesting though, so what do you mean? like the knees can't stand straight or the hip-to-thigh joint can't be straightened due to the skirt armor?

>>
>>6141588
The knees are always slightly bent due to how the armor/leg is assembled. I never noticed it before building it, it never has totally straight legs like in this picture
>>
>>6141561
You essentially get that sort of motion with the new piece on that GM. Probably not as much range, but eh.

Also, that may be the definition of the word, but when talking toy joints, swivel generally does NOT mean that. An "arm bend" joint is usually referred to as a hinge. This is why joints that can bend in the middle and rotate on pegs at one or both ends (like Figma or Revolver joints, or Marvel Legends shoulders) are referred to as "swivel-hinge joints." In fact, for the world in general swivel does not mean an elbow-type joint. If you don't believe me, Google Image "swivel" and look at what the vast majority of results are.
>>
>>6141648
I completely agree. Aside from a few, like the Hyakuri and Hyakuren, I thought all the IBO Season 1 MS were bangin. I bought nearly every one, and some in 1/100 as well.

Season 2 is...weak so far for me. It feels like someone else designed it. The only ones I like so far are the Vidar and Gusion Rebake Full City--and even then, I still prefer the first Rebake. I hope they make more of the Rodis, that would really save S2 for me.
>>
>>6140652
They are ripped from bandai's mg strike rm whike the akatsuki armor they ripped from some resin group. They may or may not be compatible with sine banssi parts because even though DM copied the runners, there is still some variance in the thick ness of parts for joints. You can't even swap out the poly caps properly between the shitty DM talgeeses and the real ones without cutting or increasing the diameter of parts.

I did a little bit of reading on it, titanium does have a very strong protective oxide film which protects it from rust, but apparently said coating CAN start to corrode in oxygen-free environments (space?) or under high enough temperatures (I'm thinking atmospheric re-entry might qualify?) It might not look like traditional rust we're used to seeing though.

Anyway, I looked it up cause I was curious, but weathering simply makes things look battle-worn in a way that humans instantly understand. Even if it's not feasible, that's ok. It's a fictional robot series.
