I also got him this big Bubbles playset. This one is carnival themed and it's sweet. My nephew liked them. There's a Buttercup one that involves hamburgers that I saw as well but he already has Buttercup so I didn't bother with that one.

Here's a look at the Buttercup playset. I have no idea who the new characters are. Are they from the old one or are they new? I don't remember them.

They couldn't even give swivel shoulders to the main figures. I keep debating picking up Mojo's mini-set, but everything in the line is, well, like you see here: Flat facades of almost interesting things along with gimmicks that barely go together visually. I mean, for fuck's sake, the most 'action' subline to this series was a set of roll-backs where Buttercup gets a cannon, Bubbles a bunny, and Blossom got a goddamn stapler.

Plus, fuck the new designs.

Nah, hate on Z if you want, it at least had the honesty to say that they weren't the real PPG and just took the name and ran with it in an entirely different direction. The new series, unless it got better, has had nothing but hollow echoes in terms of new designs, ruined old designs, completely fucked themselves over for telling any kind of story.

Back to toys though. At most, I want the 3 single pack PPG and maybe Mojo and Princess, but I'm waiting to see them drop to the low clearance because they're just little statues. I think the girls can turn their heads, but there's no passion or original idea in these damn things.

Those are the Derbytantes from episode 2 of the reboot. They aren't very interesting since they're generic "skater girl" types but it's nice to see they've gotten toys.

Yeah, that's all they do. I've been following the line ever since it's announcement since I'm a big fan of the original. The original figures from the 90's actually were pretty rad, but these are just...mediocre. They don't do much besides turn their heads. This is the first time of me hearing about the playsets, though, and they look a little nice. It's nice to see how they're actually using plotpoints and ideas from the reboot. Even if the reboot is disappointing garbage, Spinmaster could have REALLY picked up the SU license and put their effort into that.

It's a little known fact, but PPGZ got a short lived toyline in Latin America and Brazil where it was EXTREMELY popular to the point where it won a poll on CartoonNetwork.com against the original show in terms of which one kids like more.

For some reason, yes. The show was a way for the Japanese to have their own reboot of the original. It was moderately successful in Japan, going on for 2 seasons. There was an English dub of the show, however none of the original voice actors were used (most of them being voice actors used in a certain other little girls reboot that Lauren Faust has worked on) and it never made it to America. It was really popular in the Phillipenes and Latin America.

I haven't seen the reboot, and I probably never will. I like these toys because of muh nostalgia. those new playsets with the flat villains look lame. I don't like that they keep releasing 'new' figures with things in their eyes (hamburger, jewels, fire, etc)

I'm gonna get pic related as soon as I find one. mainly because I want a cooler Buttercup. I hope they release more villains. not flat ones, and hopefully ones that I actually recognize. Is Him in the reboot? also rowdyruff boys when? gang green gang set when? that dog when?
