For those unfamiliar, "Plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model." If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.

***Non-Gundam Group Build***

So this is pretty straightforward, build something that isn't Gundam. I literally do not care what it is, if it's not Gundam it counts (and just to get this out of the way, Bandai is fine). I do not require full paint jobs this time either, as I know the vast majority of people here build Bandai and that's it.

This is also not a prize build, but a regular group build.

It's a 1/72 kit I think, basically pg size. Cheaper toys have done hand rotationso on smaller scales.

So I'm buying from Mandarake for the first time and I was wondering how fast the SAL small packet shipping is. I'm assuming it's the slowest since it's cheap, but HOW slow?

>>6121634
Just as slow/fast as any SAL shipment from Japan, if you have experience with that. Living in west coast burgerland, it usually takes about two business weeks to get to me, sometimes faster. Most of the time spent is waiting for it to reach the states; I can't speak about other nations' postal service, but once it clears customs it very quickly gets to me.
>>
First time getting into painting and I don't mean to blogpost, but it's just such a weird feeling not fully putting parts together and saving the individual limbs in bags, rather than just putting everything together as I go.

I'm really glad I can be lazy with sanding though.

Yes ma'am. I'm using a can of Testors Spray Lacquer I got at my local Gundam/hobby shoppe.

Which gourai hip one?

The one at the top looks like they used third party joint parts (Wave?) and a clipped piece of runner to make a new hip joint. No idea what that's about.

The one a little further down with the gourai in the schoolgirl outfit doing a high kick is to fix the problem Gourai had where the one thich popped off notoriously easily by using Bandai hgbc Bolden arms parts and hollowing out the old socket to replace it with the bandai one.

>>6122844
I don't see what's so unusual about it. This is the sort of shit that's made to be an exclusive - an old kit cast in new colors with one or two additional runners of new parts. The real question is who the hell is foolish enough to buy a Super Fumina variant of any sort.
>>
>>6123391
I'm also going there in february, but I haven't lookd into it much yet. I imagine they sell p-bandai shit there, though. Can anyone confirm?
>>
>>6121634
SAL is pretty much "we'll stick it on a flight when there happens to be enough space in the hold." Sometimes that only takes a couple of days, sometimes that takes more than a month, but the average is around two weeks.

>>6121394
Nothing yet. That Schizophonic blog uploaded pictures of their OOB Cherno build a couple of days after release, so I imagine they'll do one for Gipsy any day now.
>>

That was the second kit I built.

One of the pins holding the spring on the leg tubes snapped off when I tried to push it into its socket. Managed to fix it with superglue.
The waist snapped when I tried to push it into its socket. Manage to fix it with plastic cement.
And then I lost a bead for the head tubes and couldn't find it again. Left one out at the other side so it's barely noticeable now.
Lost the no. 7 stickers - they stuck at an akward angle and then catapulted themselves away. Cut out new squares from the overprinted areas.
And the stickers for all that small raised detail looked terrible because the margins stuck out super noticeable, so I just left them off. Who the hell designed that idiotic shit?

I put the stickers on the back of its knee and seeing how briefly they lasted, I just haven't put any of the stickers except for the mono-eye.

As for breakages, I haven't had any. I did almost lose a bead from the face-tubing though and it gave me a scare. The stupid thing is that there are spares for the other beads on other parts of the body but not the tiniest ones on the head.

All in all, I was so scared of the RG Zaku II because of online opinions that I took extra care building it and it turned out nowhere near as bad.

>people even use Zippo on Tamiya Line Accent

Usually because they are using line accent on paint, which seals the plastic and prevents the solvent from attacking it.

most of these are first type of joint(used in kits with skirts mostly) pic related is what ive been looking into.
>>6122924
yeah they changed a bit but still give runners for both thigh types(not hips) because they fit to the same peg. this is mostly joint relief, in this case issue of too precise measures forcing more stress and friction as a result on stock. what they did was in simplest sense make it easy to pose and harder to break the peg.
rest is also on mostly relief and making it easier to disassemble.
>>6122958
two things. one both seem to be custom or molded there. purpose is for the same hip curve and size as the second type of hips. this allows for different clothes based off how the top looks.

This comic bothers me every time I see it. If the bitch you want asks you a question like that, grow some balls and tell her. No wonder people don't get what they want.
>>
>>6125234
But she doesn't like you anon.
>>
>>6125288

Doesn't matter if she does or doesn't. If you don't have the balls to tell her when asked directly, you don't deserve her or anyone else. Who knows, if she knows you are interested, she might develop feelings herself.
>>

Addendum: Just don't be a needy bitch about it.

Worry not, I wasn't trying to make empty compliments. The suit was the 'perfection' and you are 'perfecting' your ability to do it justice. I respect that.

Goodness knows I won't bother to do that with my first kit for a while, largely because it looks surprisingly good out of the box.
>>
>>6125841
That depends, do you feel more in the mood for gun gimmicks or transformation gimmicks--ranged or melee?

Is the Cherudim the Designer's Color Ver? You may also want to get stands and effect parts for its 'bits'.
In the Kimaris Trooper's case, you may be tempted to pick up the Grimgerde along with it, but do you feel up for that?

I recently built both the HG Turn A and the HG Unicorn Full Armor Destroy mode, and I found it extremely refreshing that they both used stickers *very* sparingly. They both look great just with some (extensive) panel lining and some minor paint (mainly the eyes).

quick thoughts on this thing:
- everything needs paint, as it comes molded only in black and white
- similarly, masking is a must for the front flap and the rear, as well as the turbines in the back
- every piece and section you want to attach needs superglue
- the canopy is clear plastic, painting it with clear blue is really hard to pull off if you are using a brush
- its comes with A SHIT TON of decals, I just used a few ones
- the wheels do spin!

any cyber formula fan should try to give a try to one of these kits, they are not that expensive, but require plenty of effort

You need more precise criteria mate
>>
>>6127701

The only thing that looks gaudier than that clusterfuck is the Blunderbolt kits with that backpack nonsense.

Katokifags have no standards, literally just "pile more useless shit on" the fanbase.
>>
>>6127721
Better-looking as in not looking cheap and not being covered in crappy stickers like a bunch of other HGs.

I think the Unicorn works well mainly because 1) it has a very simple colour scheme, so it doesn't really require extra stickers, and 2) it has a fairly busy design, due mainly to the psycho frame breaking up the otherwise all-white armor. A bit of panel-lining also really adds to the kit's complexity, "making it pop."

I don't really know what I meant by higher quality, though.

Pretty much anything from the Origin or IBO line. They objectively beat the pants off of it in terms of detail, engineering, and price. Whether you like the actual look of them is subjective.
>>
>>6127784
Armor detail is pretty sparse on most IBO robots, but I guess you can argue that the inner frame makes up for it.
>>
>>6127737
The "put a bunch of shit on it" mentality is literally the point of these full armor kits. They're about excess.

I'd also hesitate to call it gaudy. It's only made up of four main colours, and the silhouette isn't really all that complex considering all the shit tacked on to its back.

As for the Thunderbolt kits (I'm assuming you're mainly talking about the Psycho Zaku), they're interesting given their in-universe explanation. The Zaku with its massive backpack and weapons arsenal is a sort of last-ditch effort in an ongoing arms race between Zeon and the Federation. It's a desperate ploy to combat the newly introduced Gundam, and the Zaku's gratuitous design alone demonstrates how terrifying and overpowered Gundams are -- I think it's a very successful design in this regard.

Actually you would be surprised. The Graze and Shiden are probably the most bare, but stuff like Barbatos Lupus, Man Rodi, and a bunch of the others have a bunch of little panels and details on the surface armor. Not to the level of origin kits, but more than most HG had just a couple years ago.
>>
>>6127790
I don't think that's the point at all, the FA Gundam in thunderbolt is just a ludicrously geared. It's just the aesthetic of that particular variation of the universe.
>>
>>6127790
>The Zaku with its massive backpack and weapons arsenal is a sort of last-ditch effort in an ongoing arms race between Zeon and the Federation

Not exactly. The Brotherhood forces were breathing down the Zeon outpost's necks and had already attacked their ships directly, killing off most of their MS. Zeon reinforcements weren't going to arrive in time so they took the zaku frame they were using to test out the prototype reuse-P system on and loaded it up with pretty much every weapon they had hoping to save their necks and stall for time until reinforcements arrived. The system turned out to vastly outpreform their expectations. Originally Zeon barely gave a fuck about it.

In the manga at least, that's just what the designs for all of them are like, not just the ones in the thunderbolt sector. The MS guarding and attacking A Baoa Qu are like that too and the zaku II used for operation british as well. We'll have to see how the OVAs for the second arc handle the designs, but in the earth arc a lot of the stuff still has things like joint covers at least.

I agree. I really really hope that the new OVAs get to this part and we get a kit of it. It's one of the sexiest GMs out there and has a great looking rifle.

I also want a kit of thunderbolt Guntank and Gouf.

>Not taking out Dodai with flying kicks

i hope they get to the part where the redhead is reduced to baby brains, since that's my fetish.

also excited for HG atlas, I wanna see how sticker-y it is

Was it? I read all the way up to the most recent chapter like a week or two after the ONA ended, it's kind of all blended together into a single timeframe
>>
OK I've been working on my RX-78-02 and have been enjoying the build process way more than I thought. Definitely gonna get another kit when I'm done. So what do you guys think? RX-79G or the Gundam MkII? I wanna get both eventual but which one should I get first? The current kit I'm working on is the MG so I wanna stock with that.
>>
>>6128027
Mk-II 2.0, the Ground Gundam is pretty dated.
>>
>>6127822
We need more fucking Rodi variants. Where the hell is the Garm Rodi?!!!!
>>
Repainted full sticker. now to wait until that new set with the rifles comes out.
>>
>>6128121
Hopefully in an options set like landman rodi's legs are. If not maybe a separate release post s2 like rouei was
>>
anyone know where you can get replacement parts for a HG rx-78-3? I broke the front skirt part and I need a replacement.
>>
>>6128132
Probably not. It has like an entirely different exterior armor than Man Rodi does which is too parts heavy for an option set and doesn't seem popular enough to get its own kit if a predominately featured protagonist suit like land rodi is being regulated to option set parts.

I'd rather have a spinner rodi anyways but that's never happening.

You could always step up and make your own.

Seriously though, I am infuriated over this. The Rodi line is quite possibly my favorite thing in all of the Gundam universe, and the fact that we will probably never get a Spinner Rodi kit makes me sick to my stomach. Fuck you Bandai, for milking Grazes to death instead of these beautiful toad boys.

IBO Kimaris Trooper, IBO Astaroth, Origin Zeon suits are great to check out if you're looking for good looking, sturdy kits that look good only with panel lining and some sanding. I love the Unicorn HG Schuzrum Galluss but I would hesitate to include the Zeon suits from Unicorn HG line because of the stickers they need for the sleeves and black areas on the chest that are always somehow large swabs of stickers across curved surfaces. I'd rather have them charge me more for those kits and have more runner/separate color runners.

I have to say gunpla fans are more fortunate in terms of choice compared to toku fans.
>>
>>6127790

I usually hate 'stack a bunch of shapes' on it but I don't mind the Thunderbolt designs at all. In fact, that's the only main Gundam design I've liked since the original RX 78 and the dark blue Titans Mk II

>and the fact that we will probably never get a Spinner Rodi kit makes me sick to my stomach.

The IBO decal set released in that hobby magazine has decals specifically for Rouei and Spinner Rodi(The magazine specifically points this out). HG Rouei wasn't announced when that set was released. Also Spinner Rodi is going to be appearing in the next episode of IBO again.

Pray hard brothers
>>
>>6127739
Both hg unicorns are pretty good quality for their age. Id vouch for the untransformed one since it looks great oob or with just a little panel lining.
>>
>>6128244
It's not mine. And I'm not entirely surprised at the thick paint job, the majority of that Rodi is 3D printed and the paint is covering up the very visible print lines.

I am praying so, so very hard. And I am not a religious person.

how does one install the LED units? given their odd outer shape, i figured they must twist and lock into place, but it looks like they just sit there under the neck. specifically asking regarding MG origin rx-78, the tab for the on/off switch snags a ridge in the torso making it a hassle to remove. have thought about glueing it in place

Hmm. Good to know. I own the HG (unbuilt, but I own it) and was feeling tempted by the RG's gold chrome. At the same time though, I didn't like how mushy the sculpts were on the gold parts. They look thick and doughy. So along with the floppiness, I guess there's no real reason for me to go for the RG anymore.

The best way would've been to very carefully cut around the actual emblems so there'd be less "sticker" over all on the suit.
Then paint extremely carefully on the remaining border. Still, you'd be out of luck for what sticker was left being shiny, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

The GM Sniper 2 uses a modified RX-78-2 2.0 frame for the legs and arms which is super detailed and also has a larger amount of construction with more functional such as pistons that retract in addition to having a 3 axis pelvic joint instead of a simple ball joint.

So yes, the RX-78-2 Ver 2.0 frame is better than the Nemo frame.

Honestly the only thing that Bandai could have done regarding the GM Sniper 2 is to make random ass cut outs on the shoulders inner frame and the front crotch armor inner frame like they did for the RX-78-2 Ver 2.0

The Nemo doesn't even have internal frame for the crotch armor or side armor, so those connection points are making it look more bare than it actually is. If you remove the crotch armor inner frame from the GM Sniper 2 frame along with the shoulder pads, it instantly looks just as detailed if not more so than the Nemo.
