Does anyone actually know the answer to this? Even companies like NECA and McFarlane have had no problem mass-producing detailed sculpts over the years. How do you have such a nicely sculpted prototype and then fuck up the final version? It's almost like they went in and made the mold worse on purpose.

Panther is imperfect for sure (seriously Bandai, no claws?), but dang, he's quite a nice looking figure. Probably not really $70-nice, but I'm glad to have him.

This was also my first time messing around with Mk 46, though I've had him since release. Man, his ankle tilt joints are so freaking tight! Anyone else notice that on their Mk 46? Hoping they loosen up a bit over time.

>>6122151
>two nearly indistinguishable, giant head
Yeah, that's my biggest gripe, the expressions are so similar.

>>6122249
>It's almost like they went in and made the mold worse on purpose.
It really does, especially given how drastic the differences are. Extra puzzling because I can't think of any benefit Bandai would get for making a less detailed mold (maybe a lower part count, somehow?). It's not like Bandai can't make such finely detailed molds either, just look at the fine mesh on Panther's suit.

>>6121449
Nah, you're fucking stupid.
Lots of companies are capable of clean paint jobs and like that other guy exampled, if Hasbro can do something like that, then there's no reason Bandai can't especially when they have better QC to make sure the paint apps are straight.
And it's not like Bandai doesn't fuck up with the straightness of their paint apps on their printed shit, albiet more rare than Hasbro's fuck ups.

DCC uses the same printing tech, but they actually pay extra money to put decent paint jobs under that and only use the print to do shading, so it doesn't look like a bumpy mess.

You guys are fucking dumb.

Only the lighting and paint are different, because molds transfer 99% of the detail completely to the production figures. Even bootleg shit will carry 99% of the detail, which can be usually worn down as fuck, but that's still 99% identical to the mold.
And most companies take into account what details can be lost during the molding process.

In fact, some of these prototypes are actually just test examples, which are made from junk plastic from the actual mold. Extra care was taken into painting/printing them because they're used to promote the figure.

That's because it only looks noticeable when it's done like Bandai's, where it's only made up of dots.

Sorry, i don't have my batgirl yet and i can't find another image that shows how DCC spent the extra money to give it a decent paint job and using the printing tech.

Here's another example then, which shows that it's only used for shadowing and highlights, to great effect.

So you can see how it actually does a transition the closer you get up to it.

Full paint jobs + print job turns out pretty well.
They need to spend the extra money instead of cheaping out and using only the dots.

Honestly, I'm not entirely sure what point you're trying to make with your stories about mold transfers and bootlegs, but if you think the production Harley's details look just as good as the prototype, cool, have fun with your Harley. Other people disagree about that, but getting upset won't help change anyone's mind.

If you have pictures showing how it is simply lighting/paint making it seem there was a significant amount of detail lost, please share them as >>6121064 is pretty much the only comparison that has been provided. It'd be a much more productive and effective counterargument than telling everyone who doesn't share your view to fuck off.
>>
>>6122805

>Only the lighting and paint are different, because molds transfer 99% of the detail completely to the production figures. Even bootleg shit will carry 99% of the detail, which can be usually worn down as fuck, but that's still 99% identical to the mold.

>if you think the production Harley's details look just as good as the prototype
I don't and it's fairly obvious what's at fault, which you probably can't see because you're using a shitty Motorola Razr to browse 4chan

>If you have pictures showing
Sorry, but it's hard to show something of something I'd never buy and what with every image is going to never exactly prove because you believe lighting and paint = sculpt/mold detail.
But the fact is, molds aren't going to lose a lot of detail from the original sculpt. They barely lose any detail at all.
Again, you're basically claiming that bandai uses inferior casting techniques, which almost every toy company has perfected. If start ups from kickstarter can do a 1:.0999999999 transfers and Bandai can't, there's something wrong going on.

And again, a lot of prototypes are made from test samples from the molds themselves, using junk plastic that was left over in the machines. I can't claim all of Bandai's promos are made from tests, but a lot of them are. Chances are both those Harleys are made from the same mold.

So whatever criticism you have for the toy, there's a really high chance you're only finding flaws in the paint/printing and/or don't understand how lighting works.
>>
>>6122754
>You're telling me that Bandai somehow uses shittier methods than bootleg companies where the molds actually loose detail?

I mean, based on the physical evidence, it's clear that it sure looks that way
>>
>>6122847

The teeth aren't even the same shape lol you dumbass
>>
>>6122855
Yet the rest of the head is, judging by all the sculpted lines.
Could just be shitty paint obscrubing the teeth. Notice the top lip paint on the production figure being larger than the promo.
Another thing to notice is that the angles are different, so it may be why you can't see all the teeth. Also, could be they painted the teeth by hand to mark each one as individual.

It's hard to say based on a single image, but all the sculpted lines everywhere says its the same sculpt.
Could the teeth have been a separate insert?
>>
>>6122804
>>6122801
Literally only marginally better than Hasblow capeshit
>>
>>6122847
Oh wow, so you don't even own the figure yet you're so adamant that you're right and everyone who disagrees is wrong. Makes this whole discussion rather fruitless as you can't provide anything to refute the comparison in >>6121064 most of us are forming our opinion on, aside from your own theories.

As >>6122855 said, just look at the teeth in >>6121064, among other thing. If you seriously can't see a difference in the sculpt there, then all your understanding of how lighting works (which I'm sure is vast and comprehensive) is being betrayed by your inability to discern differences in shapes.

>Again, you're basically claiming that bandai uses inferior casting techniques, which almost every toy company has perfected. If start ups from kickstarter can do a 1:.0999999999 transfers and Bandai can't, there's something wrong going on.
This seems to be a particular point you've taken offense on, but really there's no need to be offended. This is the Figuarts General, and I'm sure most people criticizing the figure here have tons of Bandai toys (I do!), so just because people are saying a particular figure looks bad doesn't mean they're casting aspersions on Bandai's entire manufacturing process. In this individual case though, yeah, it looks to me like Bandai screwed something up.

>>6122873
Ah, now this is some proper discussion.
>Could just be shitty paint obscrubing the teeth.
The main thing that stands out to me about the teeth is that on the prototype you can clearly make out the bottom of each individual tooth, whereas this distinction is lost on the production. The larger lip paint obviously doesn't extend far enough to obscure that area.

con't
>>
>>6122900
>Oh wow, so you don't even own the figure yet you're so adamant that you're right and everyone who disagrees is wrong
Hi, everyone is saying the head is a different sculpt, which is totally wrong.

Like i said, the teeth could be different because of the angle and them actually painting them by hand to give them that individual (yet clearly one piece) look by shading where the breaks would be.
Or it's just a seperate insert they didn't bother to put in

>the bottom of each individual tooth
That's shading... or not.

Either way, my point still stands.

>This seems to be a particular point you've taken offense
hahahahah
Sorry, but nope. I'm just saying that they're a professional company and mistakes like that don't happen unless china physically broke/stole/forgot shit. It's so unlikely that Bandai would send in some inferior scan or prototype and letting it be produced that I have a greater chance of becoming the King of Nintendo.
>>
>>6122900
>>6122873
>Another thing to notice is that the angles are different, so it may be why you can't see all the teeth.
I think the photo of the production Harley actually provides a better view of the bottom of the teeth, as it's taken from a slightly lower angle than the proto photo (note that you can see less of the top of Harley's head in the production photo), so this seems unlikely.

>Also, could be they painted the teeth by hand to mark each one as individual.
Maybe! This is a fair theory, I'm doubful just from the pic we have, we'd need more pics to be sure.

>all the sculpted lines everywhere says its the same sculpt.
I think it's definitely the same sculpt, but again it's a sculpt that lost something in translation from prototype to production. Aside from the teeth, it also appears that the dimples along either side of her lower jaw were nearly lost. While they're very distinct in the proto, they're barely noticeable in the production photo, and I highly doubt that's simply due to lighting when you consider how clear the other detail around her mouth shows up in the production photo.

Another area I'd point to is the detail on her hair. The detail just isn't as fine on the production sample, the ridges making up her hair look wider than the prototype. In fact, I think you could chalk up a lot of differences in detail to the fine detail getting wider overall, and thus obscuring the detail that was in the proto.

>Could the teeth have been a separate insert?
That seems unlikely as well, but hey, could be. At least you seem to be acknowledging that there is a possibility of difference in sculpt here. :)
>>
>>6122921
>Hi, everyone is saying the head is a different sculpt, which is totally wrong.
Hello. And again, no one is actually saying that. Even if someone does believe this, it just underscores the main criticism here; the sculpt of the production sample looks worse than the prototype.

Seem to be going in circles now, so just gonna leave it at that. There's not much point to further discussion on this topic anyways as neither of us own the figure to make a definitive judgment. :)

It's mostly the same spread as the grunt clone, so he has both the DC-15A blaster and the standard longer barrelled DC-15 along with an array of hands.

The hands is where things change up a bit. In addition to the red paint on the armor, the Captain also has a pair of spread out hands (pictured here) that aren't included with the regular trooper.

I'm very glad you asked that, btw, as I had assumed that the Captain had the exact same accessories as the grunt. Noticed the new hands only because I was double-checking to answer your question!

Oh also, in case you don't already know, you can slightly pull down the clone's legs at the thigh swivel. This gives you greater clearance of the thigh armor relative to the hip, which really expands the range of motion there to allow things like crouching poses.

I got one for drawing, and for some reason, I can't seem to get the knees to function as double joints unless the lower leg is twisted 180 degrees.

Are they supposed to be this way? seems a bit strange not being able to do some poses where you need to bend the legs back all the way

That's a question liable to start a fight round these parts. I'm fine with the black series so I skipped the figuarts, but I've heard they're both good and very comparable to each other. That's a question pretty much everyone who did a video review touched on, so youtube's probably got you covered.

I'm putting one in an order with the january stuff so I can't say yet, but he seemed to be pretty well received too. I have no idea what's up with the specialist version though, I remember seeing them demo before the movie came out it but I haven't heard a thing about it since.

I think K2 looks way better than the Black Series; the sculpting is sharper, the proportions seem far more accurate to me, and the SHF has a great sort of dull-gloss finish that looks perfect for K2. Articulation is also excellent with strong, tight joints where you'd expect them and good range of motion. Holds poses and balances very well as he's not particularly heavy.

On the downside, he lacks any sort of weathering, which was probably the main thing that visually set K2 apart from the other Imp security droids in the film.

The better proportions of the SHF were more important to me than the weathering, so that's what I went for, but if that doesn't really matter to you the Black Series is probably all you need.

Same kinda deal with the Deathtrooper. I think the Black Series has overly long limbs, whereas the SHF looks much better to me in that department. SHF articulation is also better, making varied firing poses easier to achieve. Still, the Black Series is a good (and good-looking!) figure for the price, and again if you think the Black Series looks good it'll likely serve you well.

In short, neither K2 or the Deathtrooper are really stand-out releases. I think they're better than their Black Series counterparts, but not so much better that I would unequivocally recommend them over the BS (whereas I would absolutely recommend avoiding the BS First Order trooper in favor of the SHF).

As for the Specialist Deathtrooper, he's apparently going to be an exclusive release with a preorder/release date TBA.

Thanks for the responses. K2 is the only one where I considered the BS, because of the mentioned weathering and clear joints that make it more movie accurate, and yeah after watching a review it's bigger. But the SHF just looks nicer and seems to pose quite a bit better too, so idk, maybe I'll just get both. The BS Death Trooper on the other hand looked pretty lame. I guess I'll just wait on the SHF Specialist.

Also sorry for the lame quad get

Not that guy, but gummy plastic aside there's really isn't much difference articulation-wise between the Black Series K2 and Figuarts K2 (Figuarts has an extra toe joint). Size is really the biggest factor to consider when it comes to these two figures.

Meanwhile, I believe the Figuarts Death Trooper is absolutely worth recommending over the Black Series as he doesn't have those absurdly skinny legs and the benefit of double-jointed elbows for gun posing (I really can't stress the second point enough).

Honestly I've always thought SHFs were overpriced and an absolute sham for Kamen Rider figures. I almost caved in for the sentai figures though, especially dairanger.

I caved when they showed renewal Black, RX. Not spot on as far as proportions go but I wanted suit accurate figures on that scale since I already own the SICs of my fav showa series.

I found a ZO before any of the other releases first though, so now I have black condor, ZO, Black, Shadowmoon, RX and Ultraman. I almost got Bio but since Robo is so badly proportioned, I chose to not get the alt forms. All I'm really missing is Winspector, Gavan ans Dairanger. They won't ever do Maskman since sentai shf is just dead so that's... something I want from the line but will never have.

The body on the first one is ass, armor on the legs gets in the way of most poses so you're just left with the arms to play with. I really love the Figuarts Star Wars line but the first Stormtrooper gave me some serious fucking buyer's remorse.

I don't know, I have no clue if they've got some kind of system to check that sort of thing. Maybe email them about it? It might be worth a shot if you/he just wanted to avoid amiami though, I know hlj has them for slightly cheaper and they're much more flexible with their shipping.

Yes, Mattel is shit, but everyone knows that. Or are you saying your comparison is serious, and you are saying that Bandai's paint jobs are just as bad and that's why they're using printing tech?

I'm really getting tired of people defending a shitty tech just because Bandai is using it.

Many companies are capable of producing ACTUAL paint jobs that are great.

Yeah, I was hoping the upper part of the joint could pull out like the thigh pulls down, ruining accuracy for better posability, but that's just not the case. It's a really noticeable omission given the Deathtrooper and Scarif Trooper have no issues with it. Not sure why they didn't fix that.

It seems like 6133628 is saying that only the Bruce Lee figure is good, so everyone circlejerking over poor prints are exaggerating the 1950s tech.

And the only reason Bruce Lee looks as good as he does is because of the skin tone. Darker skin tones makes the littledotseverywhere less obvious, just like Mace Windu.

This whole discussion has always seemed so weird to me. I own bruce, freddie, jedi luke, and mace, and I think the faces all look varying degrees of great. Freddie is easily the worst across all of his heads, there's overspray the others don't have and his mustache just looks really underdone like it's barely there. And even then, the face is good. I've never once picked one up, squinted at it and said "man these are terrible look at all these little dots."

The first time I took a close up pic of bruce's face I was surprised, but that tends to happen when you blow something up to five times it's normal size. Long story short, I love it, it's fine in person, and I hope they never stop. I'm looking forward to bruce 2.0 and han.

>>6133681
Hasbro's faces would look ten times better if they just stopped using glossy plastic for their heads. The paint isn't great but they all look like they're fresh out of the clone vat.

I was half kidding.

Yes there are a few misfires but I don't think it's the face printing by itself. In-hand they're not as bad as what people make it out to be but the ones that really stick out in my opinion are because they're accenting something else thats off. Gold hair, pale skin etc.

I think the main reason Bruce Lee looks so good is because he's tan and has black hair. Mace Windu is black and bald and he looks just fine.

Overall I don't think its the face printing as a whole but the specific figure--- just like any line. MAFEX is an extreme example, Figma's Bruce Lee is dog shit but their Hulk is pretty good.

What you have here is a classic example of hit or miss.
>>
>>6134132
That's not hit and miss.
If it only looks good on figures with darker skin tones, it's very much an example of what the print jobs doesn't work on.

It's called fail.

They're not fragile, but some areas (eg. thin hard plastic antennas) may be.

The head snapping off thing sounds like a quality control issue, which practically all figure lines can suffer with as they're mass-produced.

It's not the yellow but that they decided to sculpt a "T-shaped" joint on the crotch piece that bothers me. It just looks really cheap on what is supposed to be a premium import.

A slightly more "V" shape design like the first Bruce Lee would have looked more natural. But alas it looks like I'm passing on this one...

They should have used the new hip designs from their DBZ figures on Bruce. It doesn't break the sculpt and can still do 90 degree kicks forward.
>>
>>6137288
They are using that hip design, there's just no cover piece. The jumpsuit just doesn't provide enough wrinkles and bagginess to hide the cuts like other types of pants.

AKA poor sculpt/engineering.

Heres a really good deal for the Shf Black/gold Mk 6 iron man. It's a really awesome figure, if anyone was thinking about getting him.

>There is no compatibility of facial expressions, but it is possible to replace each head. Just be careful as the neck becomes loose if you add the last time this time.

If you have both, you can choose the new face you want, put it on the new head, and then put that head on the old body. It's doable, but it's not great because the the ETD one was a bitch to actually take off and put back on.

Still some of the best bruce lee figures on the market.

We're still at page 7 and since there won't be any new figure announcement(atleast from what I see) in the coming days, this thread will likely stay alive for a few more days.

Maybe he likes the watermark, mate.

So what was the final verdict on Tony stark and headswaps? I remember people saying it wasn't just an easy one to one, but what exactly is the problem? I'm kind of at the point where I have enough of the damned suits I might as well get stark too.

March?

I've just checked some other stores, and they're saying February 2017.
>>
>>6143372
It could be a late update on their part if AmiAmi confirmed March as the new release. I won't be surprised if shops can be slow on the draw for that.

Also I checked out the official site and this came up:

Ball peg that connects head to neck is smaller on Tony's head than the suits, so you just have to balance it on there or make some other connection yourself. Looks good enough though..

It's a little tall though

Yeah looks a little better on the 42. If you really need the head to fit securely and look its best, you're gonna have to do some kind of custom neck configuration.
