January Challenge: don't spend all of your money on lego
conversation starter >>6109897
Nearly finished now...
(Just watch me stretch this part over another month or so because I'm not happy about some inconsequential detail)
(Image is from 8888, an ancient technic idea book: http://lego.brickinstructions.com/lego_instructions/set/8888/Idea_Book )
I already failed the challenge spectacularly.
Tax return season when?
>>6109967
Rascus best guy
>>6110099
Me too. Purchases around Christmas and this month equal to
>Fortrex and Merlok's library
>U-Wing microfighter and imperial battle pack
>Obi-Wan's interceptor
>couple of Nexo blindbags
>Clay's falcon fighter
>Aaron's aero striker
>Death Trooper ultrabuild for friend for Christmas
>two BL orders
Granted, only the brand new stuff and library were full price, but I still dread to count how much all this equals to
>>6109967
>Tfw about to reward myself for diet and exercise with Lego
>>6110107
Are you saying you don't know how much you spent?
>>6110114
I could count, but I'd rather not know.
>>6109967
Daaaamn, Vladek is the niggest
>>6110110
Keep it up anon!!!
What are you gonna get?
>>6110137
I have way too many of those Scorpion swords...
>set isn't fully inventoried on BL yet
Why is this allowed? It was released last summer.
>>6110151
The Bohrok on left has the weapons attached wrong way.
>>6110150
Well it's only the end of my first week, but I'm gonna splurge as a celebration of starting out. Probably either gonna get the DC set with Scarecrow, Blue Beetle, and Killer Moth, or the set with Croc, Captain Boomerang, and the rest.
My Flash's Rogues need to grow!
>>6110151
>Whenua Hordika's weapons
Aaah those were fun ones. Earth Toa got a lot of great weapons.
uh.... disney? i dont remember much kitchens in sleeping beauty
>>6110171
Don't get the killer croc set, it's terrible. The scarecrow set is much better, but with worse minifigures.
>>6110178
>Sleeping Beauty
>>6110182
Not that guy, but both Scarecrow and Mr. Freeze-sets are 30€ here.
I want them but not for that much.
>>6110183
aww shit, mea culpa. it's cinder elle.
>>6110188
Mistakes happen. At least it makes sense since Cinderella had all those chores, although she definitely didn't do them in her ballgown...
I found some figures while cleaning out a drawer. Would any of them be worth selling? I had a lot of battle droids too but I doubt those have any value.
>>6110194
>>6110194
>>6110182
Also, terrible? That tank thing looks pretty sweet
>>6110198
I will admit, the tank is pretty good, but 80€ for the tank and some cool minifigs is terrible. Killer croc's vehicle is just terrible
>>6110153
Why haven't you inventoried the rest of the parts yet?
I mean, you're not just whining about it instead of doing something about it yourself, are you?
>>6110201
When is this out in Best America? Anyone know?
>>6110209
True, but I guess that's just par for the course for most superhero sets. I'm too much of a capefag to resist though desu. It doesn't even make any sense for Croc to have a vehicle either. I would have rather had a big sewer pipe but kids love racers. Meh
>>6110201
this should have been a lego batman the movie set and have calendar man on it. i dont understand the business dude being in it
not sure if it's the right choice of colour
>>6110235
>i dont understand the business dude being in it
>+$5.00
>>6110284
its still really cheap for a set with 278 pieces. I doubt they put the minifigure in so they could make it cost more, maybe it wouldn't sell as well if it didn't come with any minifigures.
oh goddamit, lego.
enough!
Why did i not know of this?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZzBunTuWGI
>>6110312
Cassette Bat can rap?
>>6110312
AH what a classic!
>>6110271
nice
Just came to show off my last acquisition. They sure have improved the designs over the years.
>>6110410
>the side mounted guns keep switching sides
for the love of god
This is fucking perfect
>>6110455
still not as bad as the "diversity" nod in the mixel's series finale.
(now you know why it was cancelled)
So im gunna take apart some sets and put them in a plastic bin, do i take part the minifigs or leave then together and throw them in the bin? will they get fucked over time if kept put together/weight put on them??
>>6110455
>Lance not "currencyphiliac"
>>6110474
no they wont, lego minifigs are very resstant they'll do this in most cases
>>6110493
so even keeping helmet/accessory on it should be fine as well?
>>6110502
yea, s'all good mayne
>>6110271
I don't get it. That's the smallest Cola bottle I've ever seen.
>>6110459
>the "diversity" nod in the mixel's series finale
What
Explain
Hopefully I still have the pics from my hydrogen peroxide cleaning so I will post them later. If any anon is on the fence about it it works like a charm. It doesnt damage pieces with stickers/prints on them so dont worry. I restored some white and gray parts from the 90s.
When will they make a Tamatoa set /lg/?
>>6110599
Never.
>>6110099
>>6110543
I'm going to put those huge gray baseplates in hydrogen peroxide tomorrow. I checked my baking sheets and they are only 13 inches wide. What else can I dunk baseplates in?
>>6110502
there may be some discoloring around connected parts if exposed to light or heat, but in a box in a closet they'll be fine for a long time
>>6110688
Just go buy one of these. After you're done, you can use it to store your nice white parts.
>>6110688
just buy a big plastic bin for a couple of bucks
And then use it for lego and other future cleanings
>there will never be a brown version of this hairpiece
>>6110708
Try vinyl dye, it gets recommended here enough. I would be interested to see the result on the rubbery hair.
>>6110698
what about cold?
>>6110345
I found pic related at my elementary school, I also some how got a hold of the silver armor as well, but don't know how, did you find something that you didn't know how you obtained
>>6110730
Yea, use the cheap ziplocks and I meant to type shoeboxes. That gives me the Idea of using one of those huge ziplock storage bags to put the hydrogen peroxide and baseplates in.
>>6110511
It's /pol/ leaking into /toy/
Someone show the moron the door.
Why aren't there more edgy purple and black sets?
>>6110746
theyd have to be d2c
>>6109967
>January Challenge: don't spend all of your money on lego
Um... Well.. I still have $20ish dollars left.
>>6110757
ive spent about 200 today and yesterday and 30 earlier this week. wtf
>>6110723
I love these >>6110700
They're wide, deep, and modular, so you can get a few and use them for all kinds of different organizational plans.
This one is a 3-drawer that I use for bricks on the bottom, plates in the middle, and assorted special stuff (mostly minifig-related) in the top shelf.
Could the anon who made a sister of battle repost his picture? I just got ahold of the riddler set and was looking for inspiration.
Damn Ive been waiting for this fig for a long time! Heck Ive just been building with him instead of the rest of the set!!!
>>6110768
>>6110764
This is a 4-drawer that has two large drawers and two half-deep small ones on top, but it's the same height as the other one.
>>6110197
Heck I'd buy a few of em for a decent price.
>>6110765
This?
I've changed her up a bit since I took this shot.
Need to canabalize more red pieces to make the hulkbuster form, Weird brick to have a shortage of desu!
>>6110543
For how long did you soak them?
What's the deal with the new star wars sets? The weren't listed in the new Lego catalog that I got in the mail and I can not find any sort of release date online just some evidence that they might be out in like England. I just want battle of Scarif so I can make my battle scene
>>6109241
They used a legit design of that in a set this year.
>>6110786
theyre out everywhere expect united states and canada. We wait until March 1st
>>6110768
>stud mixel joints
Whoa. I like that they're really maximizing the potential these things can have.
>>6110790
this looks fucking cool but what's it doing in a theme about ninjas?
>>6110789
>Also does this work for colored parts?
Not that anon, but yes. Basically, the plastic pieces start to turn color as they age because the bromine that's mixed in with it to act as a flame retardant starts to break down and turn brown, which makes the pieces look discolored.
The hydrogen peroxide + sunlight method makes the bromine near the surface of the piece "turn back on", which makes it lose the brown color and the piece looks new again. After a few years, it will start to discolor again as the bromine once more breaks down.
Because it only affects the outer surface of the pieces, it doesn't work very well to lighten transparent pieces, because the hydrogen peroxide can't physically touch the molecules inside the piece, only the ones on the surface.
I wonder if there's some way to use a certain wavelength of light to reactivate the insides of transparent pieces...
>>6110792
I added the wings sorry!
>>6110792
Pretty sure those are the maxifig hands from the 1970s.
>>6110798
yup!!
>>6110791
Ugh that's stupid, no one is going to want rogue one sets then, makes no business sense
>>6110816
Unless it aligns with the dvd/blu ray release its kind of stupid. the peak of rouge one hype was 1-2 weeks ago and dwindling every day
>>6110819
Yeah if they come out in March they miss out on near movie hype and post-Christmas money and way before DVD release so they will just sit there, I just don't get the logic not releasing with all the other new sets
My TDKR Minifigs.
>>6110835
Kids don't get affected by movie hype the same way adults do.
They'll pester their parents to buy sets with the SW logo on them no matter how long it's been since the last movie, as long as the sets are "ones they don't already have".
This is just TLG's way of spreading it out so the parents get pestered every 2 months.
>>6110838
Anon don't shiv
That's balls awesome
I wish lego sold buckets with realistic building colors like, sand red, tan, white and greys. I would buy one every week.
>>6110846
Me too. I really want a big bucket full of dark colors. Or a bucket full of natural colors. I like yellow and red as much as anybody but I already have a huge surplus of that shit
>>6110866
If there's one thing i'd be willing to pay up for it's darker colored bricks.
>>6110840
Thank you.
The new Robin hairpiece makes for a perfect Carrie Kelley.
>>6110778
That's the one, thanks!
Do you have any recent photos?
>>6110861
Mods are asleep, post your biggest bricks
>>6110886
I swear I clicked the image
>>6110885
Yeah hang on
>>6110846
That and random plant pieces
>>6110885
>Do you have any recent photos?
Turns out I changed her back to this look to go with Magpie's hair and armor!
Arms are CMF Rock Star, head is CMF Battle Goddess (for dat pimpin gold lipstick), torso is CMF Cat Burglar, legs are from Prince of Persia, I think.
>>6110086
fucking props
does it still roll around or is it too heavy now?
>>6110838
Do they make a torso for a TDKR Joker? It was white suit with stripes.
>>6110099
>buy too much shit in November
Ok, I won't buy any in december
>right after christmas I find myself in a toys r us buying the deli and apartment building when I don't even want a city block but they look so cool
January.... January I won't buy any more [spoilerz]So I can really splurge in febuary and buy all the batman sets[spolierzzzzz]
Do pick a brick stations at Lego stores have pieces that aren't just basic bricks? Nothing super obscure, just things like panels and tiles and plates.
>>6110932
Depends on the lighting crosshatching; in a lot of scenes it's just plain white.
>>6110895
nice hot dog
>>6110906
Cheaper, more plentiful foliage and base plates is my dream.
>>6110938
Yes. They usually have panels or a door or windows. It's fairly random.
>>6110938
>Do pick a brick stations at Lego stores have pieces that aren't just basic bricks? Nothing super obscure, just things like panels and tiles and plates.
Yes. I've gotten doors, windows, levers, Travis bricks, jumper plates, many different tiles, three-stalk flower stem pieces, and several other types of non-brick parts.
The one closest to me also has two bins on the wall that are unsorted sweepings, so you can often find minifig parts from the BAM, along with lots of different pieces that aren't in the wall because they were moved out of circulation.
*engine rumbling, muffled yelling*
"GET A MOVE ON ROCKY SANTOS! WE GOTTA HAUL BUTTS AND YOU JUST DECIDE TO GOOF OFF? DO YOU EVEN LIFT?"
After a long time of preparations, a few of the spacefriends were finally about to set out on their new big adventure! However, they're dealing with quite a serious timelimit and the only vehicle they managed to get running that could both seat four travelers and also had enough cargospace to load all their adventuring neccessities was this rusty old hovercarrier.
Will they make it to their destination in time?
"Repair equipment and Fuel?" - "CHECK"
"A giant cooler full of Icecream?" - "CHECK"
"A good mood?" - "DOUBLE-CHECK!"
"Ok girls! Are you ready for our roadtrip to Spacemountain?" - "YEEEEESSS"
"Very well, now we might be on a tight schedule, but if we leave now and maintain our top-speed we should be able to arrive in exactly 6 space-cycles!"
"If i forgot anything, now is the time to ask."
*whispers*
"Uh..."
"When is the next bathroom stop?"
>>6110895
what an awful nail color, try something darker
>>6110946
That's a really sweet ride anon
>>6110958
Yes, but nobody ever updates them.
>>6110946
that faded smile head has some serious shit
>>6110951
I made a little forest scene and I had to scrounge every single plant piece from every set I've had since childhood just for this, Lego just needs more landscapes
>>6110968
Very cute scene tho anon
>>6110973
Thanks I made it for my Bigfoot figure to live in
Took my sweet time taking pics of this, but i'm glad the anon here recommended me to build this set.
I bought it pretty much on a whim on force friday or whatever because of extra points, free shipping and the fact that the pieces were seemed useful. It also looked non-specific enough to fit in my non-licensed setup and very easy to reconfigure into something else.
After i saw the JANG review about i had a bit of buyers-remorse. But now that i've built it and fiddled around with it, i've come full circle and really enjoyed modding it.
The interior was very skeletal and open, it didn't even had a console and you could see the cheater wheels through it. So i maximized space to the utmost extreme to seat 4 figures, actually have a console and steeringwheel and even nice cushiony seats. I made it so that there is a enough space and headroom for figures with very long hair, airtanks or some type of crazy to sit in it.
>>6110956
thanks
>>6110960
Yes, he was in a bottom of the (lego) barrel kind of situation for almost two decades. He truly deserves his opaque black visor and flame decals. But now his dark-ages are behind him and he spends his time chilling with his waifu and spacefriends.
>>6110793
Dude it's honestly one of my favorite vehicle builds in a while, overlook the Ninjashit.
Also the Samurai minifig is badass. I don't even collect Ninjago really but the minifigs this year aside from the Ninjas are stellar.
>>6110985
I think its modular nature is probably the best thing about it. You can just build an xbox hueg laser and chuck it on the back of it, or a big deflector shield disk, or a missile installation, or a rack for some speeder bikes, etc.
GOD FUCKING DAMN IT
Now what do I do? Fucker seriously came with TWO NUMBER ONE BAGS! AND NO NUMBER TWO BAG.....
Waited all fucking day for this shit, had to order it from target because they were too lazy to actually stock it at any of the FOUR fucking targets we went to,
So fucking pissed right now.
>>6110846
Dear god this. Also if Lego made parts packs with varying sizes of bricks. Like 10 1x4 bricks, 10 1x6 bricks, 10 1x8 bricks, and so on.
>>6111041
Call or email Lego, they'll send you the second bag. Might take awhile though, sorry anon.
>>6111049
Would they really do the whole bag? I mean, I was going to attempt to hit them up anyways, but I foresaw this as being a major BITCH of a customer service fight....
>>6111054
They might ask for the number off the instructions or a receipt or something to prove you bought it.
But lego is usually pretty good about that kind of thing.
>>6111049
I mean, they should. They typically replace every missing piece, so if everything from number two is missing, then that's what you can expect.
>>6111054
I've never had a bad or even neutral experience with Lego support. See what they'll do.
the Exo-suit is such a great set
>>6110746
What is this set from? Ninjago?
>>6111070
I agree.
I hope we get more ideas sets that aren't licensed.
The Fishing Store coming later this year will probably be good too.
Any of you mind trying some treads on this IRL? I'd do it myself, but I don't have enough of the tread pieces on me right now.
>>6111041
get creative!
>>6110924
Neat, thanks
>>6111041
What kind of person doesn't just rip open all of the bags into a pile and builds from that?
I wouldn't have even noticed until it took longer than normal to find the piece I needed.
>>6110171
Nice job on Mirror Master. May have to steal your design. Though the X Wing pilot torso bugs me a bit. I think plain orange would be more fitting.
>>6110219
Being a DC fan is suffering, as their sets tend to be far worse than the Marvel ones. I really want Blue Beetle and Killer Moth, but the Scarecrow set just isn't worth it, imo.
>>6111186
What about when you realized you had four of the gigantic white fenders instead of two?
>>6111186
>What kind of person doesn't just rip open all of the bags into a pile and builds from that?
The same kind of person who has a brain. The pieces are sorted into bags to streamline and optimize the building process. What kind of idiot would go out of their way to make building the set harder on themselves? The only reason I could think of where doing that would make sense is if you really need to pad out that build time by taking twice as long to find pieces.
>>6111203
Sometimes it's fun to go old school and pour out all the pieces. Sure, it takes way longer, but you feel more accomplished when you've finished building it.
This worth it? Clayface looks a little eh, but I'm a sucker for brick built figures.
>>6109302
Is build-some-figures worth it?
>>6110941
Hmm. Does Space Pimp have a similar torso?
>>6110477
He loves the pig.
>>6111213
I guess if you know someone in the lego store that is chill with you it is worth it not op
>>6110846
The fact we still haven't got realistic Creator castle set bothers me more than it should.
>>6111195
The Robin is from the new Lego Batman Movie (except for the legs and slingshot. I don't know where the legs come from but the slingshot comes from Bart Simpson) and the Batman came from the one Batman V Superman set (pic related)
>>6111234
Nitpicking here, but why no duel molded legs for Superman here? He has them in the other BvS set he's in.
>>6110946
Everyne loves the spookmobile!
>>6111238
*dual molded.
>>6110968
Needs mushrooms!
>>6111234
Legs are from the Adam West show version of Robin.
>>6111238
They don't do dual moulded legs for cheap sets, do they? iirc the set in the picture was only like $15
>>6111195
also that isn't batman movie robin's original face
>>6111244
Now that you mention it, duel molded legs are not very common in cheaper sets. I never noticed that before.
i dont miss chima.
but i miss legend beasts
I revamped K-2SO's legs tonight to make the thighs more shapely. Also did some shaping on the torso but I'm not settled on it yet.
>>6111195
>Where is Batman's head from, and basically all that Robin?
Batman's cowl is from the Green Lantern/ Sinestro set a few years ago.
Rest of Batman is from the rooftop battle with Superman set.
Robin has the headpiece from the Lego Batman Movie Robin.
The head is Lois Lane from the Dawn of Justice set.
And his body and legs are from the Adam West Batman set.
checking old sets is fun.
>>6111303
What a shit character
>>6111303
neat use of printed tiles for eyes
and these thumbs are great.
>>6111303
oh, and the tires are neat, you should rotate him a bit.
i want to see from from other sides.
>>6111041
Means you bought a Chinese counterfeit set. Well known sign of this. Many such cases. Sad!
>>6111041
this happened to me once with the Bionicles blue-orange crab thing from the first movie, but i was a child so we brought it back to the store, we got a refund, they took all of them off the shelves and i never got to have that set
>>6111349

>looking at bricklink

>decent price, Germany
>decent price, England
>etc, etc
>hey it's an Americ-
>FUCK YOU GIVE ME THREE TIMES WHAT EVERYONE ELSE IS ASKING
>>6111353
how is that retarded?
>>6111362
why would they take all the sets off the shelves for one defect
>>6111365
Well it must have been a defect with the whole batch.
>>6111319
I just want to put that thing out of its misery
why isn't there a function on bricklink to add stores to certain categoried bookmarks?
>>6111382
there is anon
Look for favorite stores
>>6111210
i hate the head. i want one piece, not a bunch
>>6111372
That is a pretty big leap.
>>6111408
but it's all lumped into one thing though
>>6111186
Considering I had JUST finished bujilding the LEPIN brand Imperial Dreadnaught ship, and it was exactly as you just described (million bags and pieces, no numbers, free for all), a little structure and organization was a GREAT change of pace. Dont get me wrong, I love the sheer chaos of a build, the hunt for the parts (especially right now as I just hit the jackpot and got hooked up with both a pain killer AND adderall prescription. Want to talk beauty from chaos? Or sorting your bits and collection in a matter of hours?) and the awesomeness that comes from making something beautiful out of said chaos.
Really im just major pissed because I wanted the damned car since seeing the first leaked pic of it (hell, in GTAV I essentially MADE THAT SAME FUCKING CAR over a year ago! Its like destiny.) and after a few setbacks, finally got her to get halfway through the build and BOOM, no full car for you......
>>6110312
Can someone explain how Wojtuś destroyed the mightiest weapon of Lego universe?
>>6110985
That's hilarious and cool at the same time!

Thanks anon. I'd prefer plain orange too, but I don't have that. Looks like he's got some gear on him so it's not too bad. Now I just need Boomer and then I'll figure out the Top and Weather Wizard
>Being a DC fan is suffering, as their sets tend to be far worse than the Marvel ones.

Need ideas for colour combinations of in-atmosphere industrial sci-fi transporters. Ideally 2 main colours and one accent colour with one of the main colours being dark bley
ok /lg/, what should I do? I'm kinda on the fence here:
buy Toy&grocery store:

>>6111301
>i dont miss chima.
the fuck did you just say?
PS:
Jokes aside - it was Chima that literally made me go back into building Lego.
When i saw those small Crow-Flyer sets i started to buy lego again.
Now im a fully lego autist with tons of sets.
I have like 4-5 of Crow Flyer sets. Those had the most awesome Lego minifigs ever.
Also that amazing Gorilla-Mech.
It looks like some Megaman Boss.
>>6111301
>giant red bottom lip
>>6111322
hi /r9k/
>>6111634
chima's downfall was weak writing of the show.
i dunno what were they thinking, it was writter like for 5 years old.
meanwhile the sets were more aimed at 7 year olds.Speedorzs were difficutl to start.
>>6111627
Oh i always hated the praise for jang he's boring and bland. At least brickvault and just2Good have charisma

I have never read something so aggressively retarded since that book that some CUNT proclaimed was a sequel to Dracula because he was Stoker's great great grand nephew.
Fortunately I didn't pay for either of these books. They both have one thing in common - If you listen closely you can hear the author masturbating with the turn of every page.
>>6112636

>>6112640
>Vader being hunted by the entire Rebel Alliance
that sounds exactly like something that's cool in concept but then falls apart with every moment you think about it
Well, I knew there would be risks going in, because performing heresy on a curve is a LOT harder than doing it in straight lines, but I went through with it anyway.
I wrapped a piece of tape around it like I normally do, but then tried to cut out a curved section over the flesh printing. Unfortunately, the act of cutting out the tape left a nice little carving around the collar.
My only consolation is that it probably won't be that noticeable in future pictures.
>>6112675
The main problem is with the curved edge of the area. The rubbing process is easier to do in a back-and-forth motion, because it's such a small area that it's hard to make a good circular motion and you just end up going back and forth, or moving outside of the boundary. That's why the line at the top of the collar is shorter on one side.
Everything I've done up to now was in a position that could just be rubbed off with a straight back and forth motion. I might try the eraser and use a microfiber cloth to buff it afterward.
>>6112581
ah you south Canadians amuse me so
>>6112693
The other option is to cover the area as best you can with straight pieces of tape then rub. Then you reapply the tape in a new area and start over until you end up with a mostly curved area removed.
>>6112700
Yeah, I think I might do that if the opportunity ever presents itself again. More time-consuming, but the printing seems to be really well-sealed and didn't have a problem with me pulling the tape off of it a few times, so maybe that will hold true for the next one.
Have you guys ever bought a set with the intention of selling it later on, and did it work out?
I see a bunch of sealed sets on ebay with 200%+ markup, even if they aren't retired yet
>>6112719
>200%+ markup, even if they aren't retired yet
The thing to remember there is that if mom and dad need to get Timmy a Lego set and it's sold out at the local walmart and target, they'll pay whatever they need to. That or the guy is delusional.
I've bought a few sets to sell, but that was only a few months back. I figure I'll open them if the "lego is worth more than gold" thing doesn't work out. Pic related

Upper front plate doesn't curve at the bottom like that and is way too long. The lower front plate shouldnt have clips there, they should be on the upper plate if at all and move it back a bit, where the UFP and LFP meet shouldn't be in front of the tracks. The top of the hull is too tall, it should end at the sloping along the sides or be one plate taller at the most. The turret is not far forward enough, put it far forward as possible after readjusting the front and consider adding a pronounced turret ring. T34s didn't have skirts along the side like that and the bits directly above the track don't bulge up like that either. Consider changing the corner pieces where the front armor meets the sloped sides as the front should be flush all the way to the corner.
Do those things and it should be a nice T34-85.
