What's their best toy line, and why is it Wooden Railway?
had msot of this as a little kid. It wad the bomb
>>6092021
The Thomas characters made by BRIO were kinda shitty, however some looked okay like Terence the tractor or how the big tender engines have their leading/trailing wheels (although they're false ones) unlike Learning Curve
sorry anon but ertl did it better,
>>6092004
I've got the majority of the metal Tomy ones at home. Even the little gold Thomas. Wonder if they're worth anything?
>>6095389
Except for a few.
>>6095389
>>6097653
They were the best when it came to variety, but Bandai was the best when it came to the models' quality.
Here's a prototype 199.
>that face
>>6101301
>>6101301
>tfw they just recolored that as the base for Diesel 10
One of the few characters where the modern toys look more like him than the ERTLs. The ERTLs coupling system was shit though, otherwise they looked the best.
>>6101348
They did improve the couplers on the later models.
>>6097653
yeah, there are a few that looked better in prototype
then there were things like pic related
>rheneas/smudger body
but ertl reused molds wherever they could,
flying Scotsman-Gordon
fat controllers car- dick tracy coupe
d199-diesel 10
mail coach-express coach
but they didn't give smudger his correct face (shared with bertrum)
>>6101301
thats not bad actually, very like the books
just like bear was
>>6101348
>just a recolour
not quite, the diesels all had diecast faces except :
the diesel (bowled out),Derek, daisy and mavis
>>6102706
prototype better than actual release 1
henrys log car
>>6102796
actual release better than prototype 1
thumper
>he's seen some shit.
When I was in elementary school I stayed with a friend a few times whose little brother had a ton of them and the tracks, I always thought it was neat.
Thought this guy was really cool.
>>6102850
>push tail
>head chomps up and down
great feature :)
>>6102850
cute
>>6102796
prototype better than actual release 2
breakdown train
>>6101301
Why do shows for toddlers have the creepiest scariest looking characters but still being hugely popular?
>>6103899
>creepy
maybe the glazed dead eyes?
>popular
because they have faces and do cutesy shit?
>>6103891
>Culdee's front face
>>6103891
Are those couplers metal?
>>6103961
plastic painted in body colour
>>6103928
that's nothing check this jack proto
>>6103976
>hugo
any pictures of merlin or 'hasty' Hannah yet?
>>6092004
Because wooden railway has largest range of characters
>>6104197
Nope, not yet. However, in my search, I found this.
How come they have several different lines of Thomas toys and they don't use the same tracks?
>>6104817
Because they're different sizes
>>6099501
Why did ERTL remove the rods from the TECS line, anyway?
>>6105321
Cost cutting. Same reason why tomy models weren't painted with extra detail outside of Japan.
>>6106246
>>6106262
>>6106275
>>6106278
>>6104784
interesting,
does seem a bit too similar to Edward,
time shall tell,
a search for 'hurricane yielded similar oddity
if it is indeed the gwr loco it will be interesting to see
>>6105321
why didn't ertl offer the gold rail series outside of America?
or at least make the shining time/ normal series magnet coupled
>>6104817
money dear, glorious money
>>6106246
damn what a clusterfuck layout,
>sleepered track
>those random blank track pieces scattered in,
>>6106275
>>6106278
>>6106283
why did they never design these with sidings? (yeah I know)
>but anon, imagination....
>>6106262
>mavis taking trucks to a turntable
silly cow
>>6106283
random diesel taking a giraffe to a low bridge
>>6104817
I don't get why normie parents in Amazon.com are so upset by this.
If every Thomas toy line was the same size and worked on the same tracks, they wouldn't need to make them.
Each range is designed to fill a certain niche - die-cast metal, wood, plastic battery-operated.
Everyone see the new plarails yet?
>>6106466
>Philip
>Ashima
>unmotorized
>Scalpers on eBay have made it impossible to buy nice comfy Thomas toys at a fair value
>>6106640
That's the story of every toy bro
Lego sets, Hot Wheels
>>6106647
>ashima has traction tyres though
She makes sounds as she's pushed or pulled along but she doesn't have a motor
wtf japan
>>6106669
always hated unpowered tomy's
got an old annie coach that had the spring in to make noise , never quite understood it,
only exception was steam making Thomas
>>6106702
Yeah, when the price for an item itself isn't bad but the shipping from Japan is fucking ridiculous
>>6106784
Tbh most ttte items I buy from Japan usually have free postage. My country (Australia) doesn't get a large variety of items stocked here. I've made a mental list of various items, I'll post them
>>6106803

There's more, but these are just the ones I remember
>>6104197
>literally Oliver's face
>>6106466
Flying Scotsman, when!?
Thoughts?
>>6107151
What do you mean anon, we have a totally legit Scotsman already
>>6107187
Trailing wheel is to big, black plastic underneath the boiler that hides the motor looks awkward and The dome looks a tad to big. Still going to try to buy it though.
>>6107216
I mean one that isn't shit.
>>6106974
shit, I'd not even noticed it,
>>6107187
cab side window a bit big, dome a bit skinny
that fake axlebox on the rear wheel, wtf?
<Hornby version is better,
(apart from the front rail across his forehead)
>>6107216
the tenders are crap size wise
the old trackmaster series was better
>>6107225
probably never
>>6107216
>>6107226
>>6107876
It's based on his CGI model(though he clearly has his model series face).
I love wooden railway. I do like Ertl and other brands but Wooden railway is my childhood
>>6097653
I always imagined bluebell to be done kind of weird gimp suit train with his face covered up.
>>6110243
what about city of truro then?
>>6110228
That's actually a pretty nice setup. Is it yours?
Why aren't there battery operated trucks?
>>6112027
With their gimmick being that they can move backwards.
>>6112027
cost?
in fairness its not often that kids have a runaway train during play, but I do agree, its odd there aren't any
although, you could always make one using a coach/van body with a powered chassis?
>>6112270
Mattel's been using the same cookie-cutter engine assembly for three years, now. It wouldn't be hard to just slap a box on one of them.
>>6110668
Yes that's my set up from a bit ago.it's been sometime since i took it down.
>>6112402
>literally phillip
>>6112402
its likely it would also be in some kind of mega set, exclusive only to said set.
hey kid
wanna /1ch/?
>>6092021
>Brio Thomas
Guessing this was before they started their own wooden railway stuff.
...how's Brio doing nowadays anyways?
My nephew gets gifted a lot of Thomas train toys but most of them aren't compatible with each other.
>>6106246
>your layout will never be as sick as this
>>6107187
Looks kinda weird here and there but it's only a prototype model so meh.
I wish Mattel would re-release this. I could see parents buying and painting these for their kids.
God I remember way back when for a birthday somehow my aunt and mom both got me Thomas the Train tracks but my mom got me the plastic one that had the ridges for the motorized Thomas engines and my aunt the wood one without either of them knowing so when I unwrapped the boxes my mom said I could only keep one and I kept the plastic because fucking cool the train moves on it's own
>>6113133
They were acquired by Ravensburger. They still make wooden trains, but they don't quite have the same charm as the old ones.
>>6113352
>Thomas the Train
>>6113133
>Guessing this was before they started their own wooden railway stuff.
Brio had been making wooden trains since the 50's
They had the license to make Thomas in Europe from the mid to late 90's
Indeed
>>6115054
>Those tiny side tanks
>>6113330
or ignoring them as being overpriced,
the crafty parents will just buy cheap wooden railway stuff to paint on
>>6113352
>my mom said I could only keep one
that sucks,
>>6113365
would it be all the plastic they have acquired?
>>6115054
>>6115999
they're ridiculously small, even compared to the squashed style of take alongs
>>6107187
fun fact Bachmann didn't bring Oliver to the current train show they're at because too many people were manhandling him
>>6116594
Proof?
>>6116660
Guy who went saw that he wasn't present and asked a sales rep.
Bullshit or not he's not there.
