Finally had a go yesterday at recreating your Deuce with what I had. Really like how sturdy it actually is compared to how it looks. Could probably slim up the cockpit without the 1x6 mudguards, but been trying to get those pieces used in any build for a while now and got very stubborn. Just love this thing now.

Still got a lot of useful yellow left I could use for that F40 attempt before New Year.

I mainly hate current Lego design choices.

Jumper plates. Most people don't use seats with them because it makes the figs sit too high and you have to use the thin designated Lego doors if you're not building plates sideways for the outside.

Also if you're working in LDD sometimes it won't let the doors actually close but it works fine in person.

Get ride of the white around the windows. Order black or dark gray. Turn the snot under the central window on the second floor into a big flower box. Fill in the rest of the facade with more red bricks, but put a few snot elements on the front so you can add vines. Vines give good detail while also hiding imperfections.
>>
>>6087150
Same anon.

Also, your second floor I a mess. Just make the whole thing even all the way up. Use grooved pieces for detailing, not slopes. And change the dark red curved pieces on opposite side of the upper window into gray so the whole thing looks like stone.

I kinda always use lego to build random robotic animals. but i guess it falls to "robots" category.
Mixels is my favorite modern (not anymore i guess sinse it cancelled?) thing because it finally allowed me to quick build anything i want because Mixels always have tons of useful parts.
PS:
Also an autistic offtopic - its 6:00AM early morning and its dark in a place where i live.
I have a dinosaur with "Room protection" (it has light/shadow detection on his chest). And that dinosaur "Roars" if someone crosses that sensor on his chest.

The thing is - i heard it roar 2 times already.
That means its either glitching or somebody is in my place. What the fuck....

One night something inside that drawer somehow shifted and i awoke to a creepy unending laughter. At that point i had already forgotten that figure and had no idea where that sound came from.

Couldn't sleep for two days

Base it on actual architectural styles, getting good real world reference is key to a good build
What you have now doesn't really read well as a building facade. The top and bottom work well enough but the middle section seems out of place.

I also hate the lack of articulation on short figures.

Seriously, why can't they make bigfigs with the same articulation as the minifig?

I thought the Mammoth Tribe in Chima was gearing up towards this, but they went right back to arm-swivel only bigfigs in the very next set.

Question:

Have ANYONE realized that it is entirely possible to build MOST old sets by just buying all the parts and downloading instructions online?

When will the Lego company realize it will bring them money by providing such a service?

They used to do this, but the price per piece was crazy high and there weren't as many types of pieces available, so it was better to just use Bricklink.

>>6087589

No, Bricklink is an online marketplace where thousands of individual stores are selling bulk pieces, loose pieces, sets, and custom items.
>>
>>6087577

This is how I run a lean Technig collection. I buy any flagships I like and BOOM I can suddenly build dozens of other sets with maybe the occasional BL order. Having fuck-all display space really helps.

Speaking of Chinese Legos, I'm enjoying this little tiltrotor. It's a combination of six different little sets, each of which comes with instructions for three different builds plus part of the instructions for the tiltrotor. Generally everything holds together really well, minor bugs were one piece was wrong but was easily replaced and one pin was a little loose so it was also replaced. I like the design and how it uses almost all of the parts from the six sets, has room for a pilot with a little cargo space in the back. I might try and build another out of Legos sometime and rework it a bit to have more interior space.

Bought some of the recently released Nexo Knights set as a present for myself, they're great

Merry Xmas /lg/!
>>
So I recently bought a Y-Wing.
Fucking great set.
But there was a problem with the minifigs.

The print on the body of the Astromech droid is not centered like it should be, but is off to one side. And it's not just a case of it's only slightly off center and you only notice it if you look real closely, it's fully noticeable from arms length away.
I actually measured it from the edge of the arm/leg socket to the edge of the print and on one side it's 4mm and on the other side its 2mm. Now 2mm doesn't sound like much, but it's enough to be noticeable and set my autism/OCD/anal retentiveness off.

So if I contact Lego and tell them of the misprint, would they send me a replacement part or would they just say "lol deal with it"?

Also there was a bit of a minor misprint with Adm. Raddus' legs; the silver bit at the bottom of his hips/his crotch is lower then it should be, leaving a large blue section above it. Should I also mention that and see if Lego will replace it, or should I not push my luck and just ask about the Astromech torso?

Definitely ask for replacements, lego's customer service is always really understanding.

But could you show a picture of your adm radus? What you are describing is to my knowledge a very common problem and they probably won't replace it (if i understood it right).

But definitely try it. As i said, their customer service is really good.

There's both figs.

Raddus isn't really that big a deal. It's not the big blue gap that's I dislike, more that the silver sits lower on the crutch then on the legs and isn't flush. But it's a minor annoyance at most. One that I'd fix if I can fix it easily, but other wise I don't care about it that much.

cool man, glad you dug it! I like how you use those 6 wide fender pieces ofor the side of the doors for those classic racecar curves.
Funny that it's sturdy like that, since your hinges go from 4-wide to 2 i guess you don't also connect the front piece with the cockpit underneath with a plate? I was inspired by a video from Jamie Bernard on the lego site were he used it to build angled walls for buildings. While some are more kid oriented, there are some pretty neat tips on there and apparently they added a shit-ton of them since i last checked.

look at irl reference of different styles/periods of architecture and see what makes them different and what are the consistent 'rules' it follows. With these rules i mean both the logic of buildings in an IRL structural intergrity way, as well as consistent stylistic choices. By all means do whatever you want, but by sticking to a couple of base rules that all forms follow it prevents it from looking like a random clusterfuck. (i.e. decorative and rounded, or angular with square and simple surfaces) Deviating from these rules can be cool, but let there be a clear IRL reason for it(also a rule basically).
Iike for example a building with a renaissance style but it has an extra level that is very modern looking, because it was added in the future. Or a medieval cobblestone castle with weird smooth monolithic black shapes on it, because it now houses interdimensional aliens.

This way you can make a very logical and consistent building, but also really add a story and character to prevent it from being boring.

Original space theme? that could take away from Star Wars line! No.

Shitty plastic that leads to parts breaking? it's cheaper so it's good enough.

Let's price this gas station at $80 and see how it sells, maybe we can upmark the inevitable police stations.

Lego's just shifting its priorities. Making great toys is just too expensive.

So we have some really good MOCists in this thread, and I think you know who you are. If a bootleg company stole your design and sold it, how would you feel?

>>

>Not coloring her skin Lego yellow.

>>
>>6088586
I wouldn't care. Hell I might even buy one. I never understood treating your MOC as some sort of intellectual property. You should share your design if you can. I rarely use LDD but i've shared every file i've completed. MOC's are like memes, it's not really yours, it's just your contribution.
>>
>>6088593
You could say that about any medium of art though anon. Its more sharing your technique to the world so they can get inspired. Not copy your design and sell it!
>>
>>6088586
Rather honored, I suppose. Imitation is the greatest form of flattery, and I'd be happy that they think my shit is good enough to turn a profit. I would probably buy one myself just for the novelty of it. No point letting it get to you. If it ever happened (which it absolutely won't) nothing could be done about it anyway due to China's fucked up/non-existent copyright laws.

It's a different story if it was a single person re-selling my shit on the MOC shop or MOC nation trying to pass it off as their own. Then I'd make a big deal out of it because I can realistically contest a single person stealing my work, but I won't try and fight an entire country and their fucked up copyright laws.
>>
>>6088586
If i was asked i would probably agree and let them produce my moc and probavly be flattered.

But if someone stole my moc i would honestly be pissed. I don't have many principles, but the importance of ideas and consequently their protection is high up there. But i know i wouldn't be able to do anything about it and try to take it as a compliment.

>>6088603
>>6088590
>>6088593
So knowing that China is basically a force of nature at this point, and there is nothing you or lego can do to stop them, would you rather post your MOC and have potentially thousands of people have it in their homes, or not even post at all? That seems to be the choice right now, at least until China starts regulating and enforcing IP law.

>post your MOC and have potentially thousands of people have it in their homes
But I already do that though. I basically always give out ldd files of the stuff I make when people ask for them. I'd love to have my work in thousands of peoples houses. Lego should be about sharing techniques and fun designs between the community. Hell, if I can inspire even one person to try out and build something they otherwise wouldn't have, then I've done my job as a builder. As long as some asshole isn't stealing my work to make a profit, that is.
>>
>>6088595
>medium of art
It's a craft if it's anything like that. This is about configuration more than it is about creativity.

It has always bothered me how personal people are with MOCs. I've posted things before and then somebody posted an improved version. That was really cool. I learned something from that. This shit should be as open sourced as possible so we all have access to the best techniques. I'm personally annoyed when people post things and then refuse to explain how they did it as if it's some sort of trade secret.

>>6088603
I don't think you can actually copyright an MOC, can you? Lego is protected trademark. You can re-sell them in a configuration but I don't think you can copyright something that's only possible with someone else's stuff.

>I don't think you can actually copyright an MOC, can you?
Apparently you can. Go try and submit a popular builders work to Lego Ideas, Bricklinks Moc shop, or Moc Nation under a different name and see how quickly it backfires.

Nobody has the right to profit off of my builds but me, and I'm not a fucken scumbag so I gave away my designs.
>>
>>6088637
There are artists that work in lego and sell their work and own the rights to images of their work
It's just a medium like anything else, paint companies don't own the paintings made from it, and there's enough art made of found objects that it really doesn't matter what the work is made of.
And you can resell bricks as MOC sets, there's several sites with that exact function
>>
>>6088660
That isn't copyright. That's just community control. I'm talking about the legality of saying someone can "steal" an MOC.

>>6088671
Of course you can resell anything after configuring it yourself. But there's no way you can copyright an MOC. You can copyright an image or specific design. But Lego is not just a medium, it's a copyrighted product. You cannot claim intellectual ownership of it just because you configured it in a certain way. Just like someone on Etsy can't claim IP rights over a craft they made with an old Apple computer. They have every right to sell it, but they do not own the IP, and can't own the IP.

>No, I don't think you are in the clear. Copyright covers works of original authorship fixed in any tangible medium of expression, even LEGO building bricks. http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/17/102 Your picture of someone else's LEGO creation would likely be an infringement under 17 USC 501 because the copy would be a reproduction in violation of 17 USC 106. You would be inducing your customers to infringe. Historically, there was doubt about the extent of liability for inducing copyright infringement
yeah there's obviously some real consensus there, anon

>>6088686
I'm saying you can't copyright an MOC, not that's it's right/wrong to sell someone's MOC.
>>
>>6088694
Two lawyers agreeing that you can't sell a copy of someone else's MOC because lego bricks count as a tangible medium of expression for copyright purposes.

That's a hell of a lot more weight than some random fuck on the internet.

A very merry Christmas to everybody in the Lego General!

As some of you may remember me blogging about a few weeks ago, I got a Poolside Paradise for Christmas. This was fun to put together and the set has a really neat design despite being mainly a few 1x1x6 and 1x2x6 bricks and some curved windows. Something I wanted since it first came out, so I'm very happy to be able to finally cross it off my wish list.

The lower level has a small kitchenette with a pink tap, a coffee maker, and a stove, while the upper level has a pair of swivel chairs that look out over Paradisa and a big bunch of flowers in a very modern and hip transparent head-shaped vase.

One thing I thought was a little off was the door leading into the kitchenette. The way the cabinets are positioned blocks the door from opening all the way as you can see. If you move the cabinets one stud to the right it has enough clearance to open fully. I had to check the instructions a few times to make sure I put it together right. I assume they put the cabinets across the floor plates to increase stability, but I'm not a fan of how it blocks the door like this.

>I don't know how to comment on a post
Since it's obvious you are dangerously new i will give you some hot tips and ettiquette pointers so you don't make it so inviting for people to shit on you.
1. lurk moar
2. resize your pics accordingly. Think what you want to show and how big (or rather small) of a resolution is neccessary for that. (protip: it isn't 4032x3024)
3. Try to refrain from imagedumps when they aren't neccessary. Make composite images to show multiple angles of one thing. Threads on /toy/ have a limited amount of imageslots. Once it is full, a new general is made. When everyone dumps images for every little thing, threads will go sanic fast and make it hard to communicate and find posts in previous threads.
4. The group of people that frequents these threads isn't that big. These threads are slow. People will remember what you posted two threads ago.

The trick is to get the wanking job first, and then schedule your MOC building around that.

>Shouldn't the door open outward?
That was my first thought, but it clearly has the stud on the far side, and you should always follow the instructions.
>>
>>6089659
Oh, never mind, I figured out the problem.

This set is supposed to come with this door:
www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=73436c01

but when the cracklink dealer put it together, they used the opposite door instead:
http://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=73436c01

which is why the instructions show the handle on the outer side of the door.
>>
>>6089664
Fucked up the link but whatever

Thought I had one of those white doors already, but it's the same side as the incorrect one they gave me. Shoot, it's probably too late to complain about it too.

They did something similar with Kylo Ren's shuttle last year too.

Progress!

But I've hit a brick wall; I need more parts to finish this off, and I can't build mech legs to save my life (to compound to the first issue)

How would I go ordering stuff on Bricklink?
Do you folks have a go-to BL store?
Do I buy stuff in bulk from Ebay?
>>
>>6089940
Make an account, make a wanted list of the parts you want, use their shitty search to find the stores that have most of what you want, place order, wait for seller to send you an invoice, pay, wait to receive parts, receive parts, get pissed off because they're in bad condition or missing, bitch to seller, get blown off, leave negative feedback, get negative feedback, bitch to admins,
>>
>>6089989
I've never had a bricklink experience that bad...
>>
>>6089992
The worst (really, the only truly "bad" experience) I had was a seller who sent me

1. the wrong colored minifig head (not a big deal, but annoying because the one they had listed was sort of rare and I already had 10+ of the one they sent)

2. a bunch of cracked minifig torsos that can't hold in legs

3. the torsos were full of play-doh and other gunky stuff

I told them about the wrong head and the cracked pieces, and their response was "we don't have that one" and "we try not to sell cracked pieces". After I gave them neutral feedback (literally "cracked pieces, dirty pieces, shipping was fast"), they gave me neutral feedback and blacklisted me from their store.

>>
Went to check out the boxing day sales this morning. Here's the discounts if any aussies are going to brave the crowds.

Myer: buy 1 get 2nd half price
David Jones: 20% off
Target: nothing
Big W: just their normal sales on random things. Nothing great.

Bit disappointing desu.
>>
>>6090184
>those lameshit discounts
Bah, not even worth fighting the crowds for that.
>>
>>6090181
I like this style of hands
You'd have to fine a way to have it grip things and make it thinner, but it gives you some good finger articulation
>>
>>6090184
>mfw i used discounts and a gift card to get the detective office from myer for 100 dollary doos
>>
>>6090181
Those are some really neat improvements.

I don't have an idea for different hands, but i have an idea how you could enable them:

Change the hero factory arms for this:
http://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?id=99478&idColor=11&view=buy&ccName=4593567#T=S&C=11&O={"color":11,"ss":"DE","cond":"N","nosuperlot":1}

And then put this piece where the hands would go: http://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?id=64888&idColor=11&view=buy&ccName=4286267#T=S&C=11&O={"color":11,"ss":"DE","cond":"N","nosuperlot":1}

Now you have an axle/bar connection instead of that ccbs ball connection

Yeah. I've only had one scam attempt and one non-communicator that sent a package a month late.

I almost had a NSS go through on the second one, order came in yesterday. Two more days and they would have been screwed. They still haven't responded or looked at any part of my messages and their feedback indicates they've done this for at least eight orders recently? At least I got the stuff.
>>
>>6090420
I wish feedback comments had more room. How am I gonna communicate all that in a single post?

I got the stuff, it was all clean, order was complete... is it worth neutral feedback?

it's a beauty, and the build has lots of interesting techniques and some I feel are experimental. The only problems I've found with this is the wheels don't spin too well and I don't really like how wiggly the part of the car with the dashboard and steering wheel feels

>>
>>6090483
Yeah, I can see it. Except maybe for the tiny hips and legs.

If it's just the joints, you're probably better off getting a handful off bricklink, but I think these sets are worth buying. Some neat new parts in there, including the body/cockpit.
>>
>>6090540

Queen Annes Revenge

Imperial Pirate Ship

Green Grocer

Avengers Lab

All Lepin Brand, all going to be reviewed.

Extensively.

And posted in these very general threads, much to the dismay of purists. I made a promise though, and I intend to stick with it, for all my fellow HulkBusters. Did it for the Lepin Monster Mansion and got some good feedback due to it, so I work for anyone here who may not have the fundage to get the "pure" versions.

And I do it....

For free.

"Lepin Avengers Lab", coming soon!

The missus got me Creationary, Which is awesome. And someone from work got me that Hydra Sub with underwater ironman and Cap. Kind of cool.
My B wing I bought for myself went missing but got a refund so I'll get a Y wing maybe.
Not a massive haul, but I've still got 4 Modulars to build as well as a whole bunch of cape shit.

I'm new to minifig heresy, so forgive me if this is a dumb question:

I'm planning to use this guy's "legs" for a custom ragnaros from wow. Since ragnaros is a being made out of fire i'd like to keep the blue parts translucent. But blue doesn't fit his colourscheme. Is it possible to paint over the blue parts but still keep them translucent?
>>
>>6090963
I'm no expert, and I don't know if it would even work, but washes (really watered down paints) could technically work. Most companies that produce miniature models have some available.

Don't quote me on this, though.

It might also be worth your time trying to separate the 2 parts of the mold like that one anon did with Ghost Rider's head flame, for the sake of painting.
