They never do. They don't care. They assume that the source material does not appeal to "the masses" even though they paid big bucks to get an established franchise name to draw in people. The execs are also throwing in their money to make these films happen so their ideas > what the fans want.

Just remember- for every 1 Transformers that makes money, there are 20 Super Mario & Hitman adaptations that don't make money. It's rarer that these changed adaptations do well- but don't expect faithful stuff anytime soon, when directors fight to be faithful, we get Hlelboy and Ghost Rider, good films that get no hype and the masses make fun of because they got no hype, because actually watching a film they're not told to like is too hard.

The TV show is the accessory. The toyline comes first.
You make the toys, you make the toys look good, THEN you put them in the show or movie or whatever. That's the force behind every design decision behind every one of these shows ever.

If you have a robot that looks (arguably) good onscreen, but is a jumbled, mushy mess in toy form, you've completely missed the point.

As long as fans of the old don't buy the toys and go to the movie, than it's sure to be a bust of a reboot. The toys are bland as hell so kids won't want it over the more colorful Ninja Storm stuff coming out. I see them as clearance bin fodder in a few months. Voltron is also coming out and that shit looks great compared to the movie zord. Modern but still nostalgic to the old show. I honestly don't think this looks that bad. The helmet and chest look pretty good. I already have a good original Megazord (with an even better one coming out next year) and don't mind the accented colors. I get the comparison to Barformers but I'd say this is a step up. I think the problem with this Knightron Megazord is the same as Bayformers...they both have unintuitive transformations achieved through film magic. While bayformer toy designers managed to somehow figure out somewhat reasonable toy representaions of the show models, BoA went the easy route and just partsformed everything.

I don't like Max Landis but I've heard some things and my understanding is that what he wrote was actually nothing like Chronicle and was more like old MMPR because he's kind of just a regular nerd so he just wanted it to be like the old shit, but they had hired him because of Chronicle and thought he would just make Chronicle again, so when he didn't, they just got someone else to come in and do it.

Yeah, that's fine and I fully expected some people to like these designs really, but he sounds like he's forcing himself to like the thing, even the Mastodon missing a leg thing he seems fine with just eating instead of taking it back and getting a replacement.

I can vouch for both of these products, though moreso for the Dragonzord than the Command Center.

The Dragonzord, in addition to being a nice, cartoony version of the original, is slightly RC(though you can't really backup or control turning), has a pilot-area for the Green(or presumably any other) Ranger, has remote-control fire missiles, has shoulder missiles, and a very nice tail. https://youtu.be/49gi0mwJf6I a demo someone put up that doesn't have a voiceover but shows the thing in action.

The Command Center is simpler, but still has some nice points about it. It has a VERY nice Zordon, an Alpha 5, a view-globe(that, sadly, only ever will show Goldar), a flipout platform with the 5 Power Ranger dino symbols, a storage rack for 6 weapons(though for whatever reason they've got molded detail of the Rangers' weapons to show where they go but decided on molding a Blade Blaster for a clip it couldn't go on and no Dragon Dagger space either).

There's also a little tower to the right of Zordon with a flip-out launcher, a 'fighting' gimmick(which just kind of smashes two Imaginext or similar size figures together when you pull the lever), and a 'jail cell' in the back of the rock face. Unfortunately, there's only videos with bad voiceovers or kid commercials, but I can tell you that if you've got the 4-inch Rangers, this is a pretty nice set and this Alpha 5 goes a lot better with them than the one that was in the 4-inch line.

Back in the day when Goldar, Scorpina etc fought the rangers several times in a season there was a decent excuse for monster figures. But that has not been true for a very long time. Also I don't think there was ever a Goldar on the same scale as the zords sold.

None of them are really all that memorable. The main bad guys of the season look okay enough but the main monster of the episode is usually dumb looking, even by kids standards.

And yea the original toy lines never had a monster to the same scale as the zords. They were the same as the figures but the deluxe zord toys never had anything to fight.

Well for the first Movie it was just an edited version of Kakuranger's ranger mech.

Something tells me though that whoever Saban got to design the new Megazord were not put into contact with either Bandai or Plex.

We could have at least got a basic Limb-former from modern Bandai at the very least. Without them though, the designer(s) seemed to lack the ability to do something even THAT simple.
