Hey, fine folks.

I don't understand much of Acid Rain and I'm trying to get into the series. Saw this set, lurked on eBay and saw there are plenty of places selling it, I'm just not sure if they are counterfeits or what.

Is it safe to buy them from eBay? Please advice.
>>
>>6080006
fucking typo, advise*
>>
there's AR counterfeits?
>>
>>6080006
I have not heard of bootleg Acid Rain stuff. You should be safe to buy from ebay.
>>
>>6080006
there's legit sellers like bbts and several chink stores. check the AR facebook for list of approved people
>>
>>6080006

Knockoffs are usually rubbery, fall apart, with less crisp molding, and the paint rubs off as soon as you touch them. Oh wait that's real Acid Rain figures too.
>>
>>6080006
Ebay stores usually have a steep markup but that's usually it, haven't heard of any bootlegs.
>>
>>6080006
>I don't understand much of Acid Rain
What's to understand? They're just post-apocalyptic soldier toys.
>>
The Abaddon Trooper is up for PO at BBTS:

https://www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/product.aspx?product=TOY10659&mode=retail

There's also a con exclusive Omangan Container Guard goin around, if you can find one.

>>
>>6080439
Let me clarify there are pre-orders going around for the container guard, the figure itself doesn't release for a few months.
>>
>tfw love for AR has totally died in the hiatus

damn. my figures are all boxed up
>>
>>6080456
This is a very small, niche figure line that we're talking about here. It's been known from the get-go that releases would be few and far between. I'm actually really impressed with what Kit's been able to do considering what he has to work with.
>>
>>6080332
>Ebay stores usually have a steep markup
From my experience that 'steep markup' is about $5 per figure which isn't too bad really compared to what happens to most import/premium toys on ebay.

Also if you lurk hard enough auctions from normal non-store people looking to unload their collection can slip through the cracks. I got a Raptor for $60 once that way.

>>
>>6080810
Lookin good shady, also thanks for following me on IG. I'll try to put up some good pics to make it worth your while. I've got TOC and a Marine Infantry on the way to my house as I type. I'll be thinking of you while looking for a decent way to display the wounded head!

So do I, am hype enough to keep refreshing tracking. Glad I got one before they become scarce from armybuilding. (Wish i could have afforded at least a squad myself tho)

Same here. Fedex said it was supposed to be here today then when I woke up this morning and checked, it was delayed until tomorrow. Which because of Christmas bullshit I won't be home until Monday to get it. Pretty bummed
>>
>>6084111
I had two pre-ordered but due to the fact that like 10 different import releases all came out on the same day I had to drop one from my order. Hopefully I'll be able to find another down the line.

Just for fun i did a comparison shot of his weapons compared to the other ARW weapons I have. Don't mind the custom sling I made for the Agurts Infantry carbine. The Marine Infantry carbine with bayonet seems to have been modeled off the same platform, which is a nice bit of continuity.
>>
>>6080006

Thinking about getting one of these figures. Possibly the Viking Shield first but Id really like to get the AMM Security exclusive but Ebay no longer has any. Is $35 dollars a good price for the Viking Shield?
>>
My fucking god, I love these. In grad school now, so I'll have to pay out the ass for them in a year when I'm done.
>>
>>6089658
>Is $35 dollars a good price for the Viking Shield?
Yes. That's a normal pre-rape price. Every ARW non-vehicle figure I've bought was between $33-$37 shipped.

Hasbrodrones will fling their piss bottles at you for buying a 1:18 figure for more than $25 but the fact of the matter is, these are not GI Joes. They're a level up from that.

>>6089658
That's standard for the Viking, but since it's your first keep in mind that the armor limits their poseability. The base body is very poseability and you won't get quite all of that. I'd suggest picking up the new Taste of Coffee set if you really want to get a feel for them. That said, the Vikings are great and I recommend them.

Here's my custom one.
>>
>>6090011
Seriously, this. All the best Acid Rain vehicle designs never got released.

>chapel
>medical bike
>flak bike and cart

All of these have the best feel of verisimilitude to actual military vehicles, compared to what actually has been released.
>>
>>6089963
>>6090018
Thanks for the info anons.
Yeah Im kinda set on the Viking so I think I will go for it. Either Ebay for 35 or BBTS for 30 + whatever the shipping is.
The customs look damn good.

>>6080810
I do love the sculpt on the wounded head, but I think I'm going to ad some white for a skull and then ad more red because I like my gore. I'm not sure if you actually work for the company or how you got your work in this but that's pretty fucking cool man congrats on that.

>>
>>6092945
Heres the 4 wheeler
>>
>>6092947
And this is my made from scratch gattling gun. You can actually spin in by turning the pedal, and adjust how high or low it aims by turning the front two wheels. And obviously can be pulled by the quad
>>
>>6092951
Here's the side with the pedal. It isn't a great gun, but it was fun to make, and fun to fiddle with

>>
>>6095467
>I'm loving these screenshots and diorama set ups these guys fit so good with.

That's what sold me on ARW too. They always photo some damn well. It's the paint, the fact that they don't look like shiny 'toy plastic' unlike a lot pf other 1:18. I also like how the unmasked faces aren't painted with whites/pupils which -always- makes 1:18s look like ass no matter how precisely it's done. Instead they're sculpted to shadow the eyes nicely.

Oh this SDCC or w/e exclusive?
Yea I need THIRTY OF THEM BECAUSE FUCK YOU
>>
>>6101018
I'm not sure about this, but maybe someone here knows more:

If I recall correctly the line had some small western distribution early on (so more figures available) but now it's really just distributing to HK/SE Asia +BBTS? Am I right? The last drop seemed to have really small availability here, I was lucky as hell to get my Marine for $37 from an ebay seller. That window of possibility was less than a week. As compared to early on when Sol Commanders for example lingered around for a few months.
>>
>>6101128
Entertainment Earth, and TheToySource also carry ARW, most figures are sold out though. Amiami used to carry it, not sure if they still do. Mandarake also sells it, Although their stock is low too. Pretty much everywhere that sells it is either sold out or almost sold out. I think mandarake has a single speeder in-stock or something like that.

New image of the astronaut from Kits IG
>>
>>6102488

Nice! Paint is a little poopy but I can probably just quit 3A for good and focus on this. Wait... cool bright colors... this one is probably going to be exclusive isn't it?
>>
>>6102494
Even if it is (I doubt he would make the first image released of this figure one of an exclusive) that probably means that we'll be getting a regular, differently painted version. The silver lining behind ARW exclusives is that they're mostly (depends on if you consider the green army men exclusives a re-color) just variants and re-colors of the wide-release figures.
>>
>>6102506
but the exclusives are always better colors
>>
>>6102509
Well thats the rub, it's still a far better alternative than having entire sculpts locked away behind exclusivity.
>>
>>6102494
Kit already told us on insta that the Space Prisoner will be a general release.
>>
Newfag in this thread here, im a gi joe collector but holy fucking shit. These guys look fucking amazing. Google shows me ebay and bigbad are the only sellers, how do i get figures like what Shady has? I havent lurked ebay as of this post, whats a reasonable price for a simple figure with accessories?
>>
>>6103649
Figures generally retail around $30USD, but once they pass into the secondary market they double or more pretty easily. Sol Commander was the first figure released, and he is pretty damn basic. Looks like he'll run you $50USD and up on eBay these days.

If you're serious about the line, bite the bullet and grab the Taste of Coffee set on BBTS. It's pretty demonstrative of what you'll get from these figures, and if you don't like what you find getting your initial outlay back will not prove to be a problem.

Shady does a lot of customizing to some of his ARW figures, so that's a something you learn to do yourself or pay someone to do for you.

Huh. Monetarily you made out well, but if that happens to be your first ever Acid Rain toy that's got to be a bit of a buzzkill since it does not come with a pilot figure. Further complicating things is that Sol Commanders were released with the implication they were to be used as pilot figures, and good luck finding one of those now.

If you already have some ARW figures then that's a good score.

>>
>>6120885
>>6120871
The wall thing is the only thing that sets it aside from other APCs.
There's like a billion AAV wannabes out there in the toy market and they'er all undersized. The only thing that would make 3A's worth it is by keeping its wall gimmick.

Otherwise, why not jst get this? It's larger, so it isn't just a stubby square that looks like it could tip over
>>
>>6121063
The appeal of buying Acid Rain is that they do the painting for you. I'd need a ton of work to turn that into something as photogenic as ARW stuff looks out of the factory.
>>
>>6121091
I'm pretty sure Acid Rain's appeal was the fact that they made cool designs.
If anything, it's a detriment. Their paint is why i dont buy some of their stuff. The realistic figures look awful.
>>
>>6123142
>The realistic figures look awful.
I'm of a totally opposite opinion. The more Acid Rain looks like trudged down soldiers scraping by with just a rifle and tin of meat in a world at the edge of collapse, the better. And not fancy high tech armor suits for the most part. I want corrosion paint on -everything-, it
s a world that rains acid after all!
>>
>>6123148
The only time I've really been dissapoimted with the paint is when giant chunks of it kept flaking off the webgear on my agurts infantry, other than that it's been pretty solid for a 3.75 line.
>>
>>6123142
Yeah, I think you'll find most people who buy the stuff disagree. Although, I guess that's why they buy them, obviously. I love the grime on these guys.

The Agurts webgear was a mistake, Kit has said as much. He's not planning on doing rubber skirts any more.
>>
>>6118643
run under hot tap water for a few.
>>
>>6123148
Yeah, that's nice you like the soldiers and all, but their faces are awful.
The paint work makes them look like a sloppy warhammer paint job.

Think of it ilke this, wouldn't you be buying them still if they didn't have all that paint?
The designs are what attracts people to them, not the slop.
>>
>>6124935
I didn't buy your pic related, that's for sure.

If ARW had GI Joe style shiny plastic sheen all over and painted whites/pupils eyes I would be much less interested in them.

I think Acid Rain approaches faces perfectly. Whites-pupils eyes are so very often botched in 1:18 and even if it's sone well, it forces a character in a picture to be looking one way instead of the more versatile, vague shadowing of Acid Rain eyes.
>>
>>6124942
>I didn't buy your pic related, that's for sure
I did and the jeep was a huge fucking disappointment. It's literally just a fucking green army man jeep i could have gotten in the 80s and 90s.
Not worth the added megabucks, especially when previous included more figures for the same amount of money.

Said figure itself? Amazing and a lot of fun. Highly wanted because paint jobs aren't needed to make a great toy and the 3 pack set sells for too damn much now.
>>
>>6124935
>>Think of it ilke this, wouldn't you be buying them still if they didn't have all that paint?

No? People buy them because they fill the hole left by ThreeA when Ash became all about vaginas and "clean" figures except without the delays and bullshit.
>>
>>6124935
>The designs are what attracts people to them, not the slop.

>The paint is a part of the design
Not really, as seen with the popularity with the green army men.

>I don't really care for the 3A designs in comparison
It's a fair comparison, since they pretty much liftted the grit from 3a's ability to sell overdone grit. Even the mannequin style faces are seen on both lines.
And just like Acid Rain, the non-gritty stuff sells pretty well.

>>6125007
Yeah, sorry, but people like them for way different reasons, especially since people like myself buy the clean figures for both lines.
>>
>>6125024
>And just like Acid Rain, the non-gritty stuff sells pretty well.

I don't know man Ebay and forums are full of people trying to get rid of white and glow robots. No one really gives a shit about them. People want the painted ones.
>>
>>6124990

Acid Rain sculpts are too simplistic to be worth it without the extra paint. It's the combination of everything that makes them cool imo. Otherwise they are just like $30 Gi Joes with less stuff and gummy plastic..
>>
I own the viking shield, king, and a marine. Preordered the transformable atv and abbadon trooper. These toys are what I have wanted from joes for years.

I'm with you. I don't mind the softer feel at all (it's not like it's so soft it warps and makes the figures unable to stand or anything) and it has less sheen when unpainted which I also like.
>>
>>6125455
The figures themselves arent gummy plastic tho. Go feel up the actual body of one of the figures, if you think thats gummy plastic then youre fucking retarded.
>>
>>6126321
What type of plastic are the soft arms anyways? I wanna use it for my line
>>
>>6125454
ebay is also full of people getting rid of their 3a figures with gritty paint everywhere.
Your point is so awesome... and i just bought something because i can't help myself.

>>6125455
>Acid Rain sculpts are too simplistic
You're nuts. None of them are simplistic, not even the ones with mannequin-styled heads.

>>6126321
>The figures themselves arent gummy plastic tho
>almost all joints are rubbery sounding revoltech clicks
>heads are all squishable
>arms can all be flexed
>body itself has give
The body doesn't feel completely rubbery because it feels like a solid piece of plastic, so there's more mass to not make it feel rubbery.
Only the legs and its joints seem to be made of hard plastics.
And I'm not one of those people who pretends either type of plastic is more/less quality. No one here knows what quality plastic is, unless they're actually a chemist who worked on these figures.

>>6125836
The plastics are much more flexible than GI Joes and warping happens because of being poorly packaged and remaining in a bent position too long.
>>
>>6126833
>warping happens because of being poorly packaged
How? They're incased in foam
>>
>>6126870
I mean about any toy that gets warped, like Hasbro figures.
You can warp the AR figures just as easily... unless the plastic starts splitting instead and rubbery plastics are known for that. Anyone wanna try?
>>
Kokomo toys ebay page just listed some marines if anyone is looking.
>>
>>6131869
>$45
I told myself I'd never pay more than $40 for a non-vehicle Acid Rain figure but fuck it, I just bought one. The Marine is the best figure yet and the one I have needed a squadmate for photos.
>>
>>6131869

Don't quite know what this will be, but I'm tentatively excited. I do love tiny action figures.
>>
So like is EVERY figure touched by the same one guy during production? i have trouble believing this
>>
>>6136801
Yes, each one is kissed by Kit before it ships out.
>>
>>6136801
recently he actually hired on some people, but for a while(maybe even still) they were all handpainted by him.
>>
>>6136710
Sounds pretty interesting, weird that I can't find anything on the company he references.

Also good to hear that the production issues were company side, not the design side. Explains why we've gotten like 5 figures in the last few months.
>>
>>6136710
Is B2FIVE an existing series? Can't find any info on it via Google.
>>
>>6136710
Wait does this mean he's switching acid rains scale?
>>
>>6138527
No. B25 is doing all the production on the smaller scale stuff, presumably they just licensed Kit's designs. He also said it shouldn't affect the current ARW production schedule and in fact they've worked out some production issues that had been slowing down everything.

my birthday will be on february and my girlfriend asked me to choose a gift. So I chose this little fella here. He will be my first acid rain figure. Any toughts on it? It's a good "first figure"?
>>

get King, he's way better
>>
>>6145602
Any actual problems with Argus? I only fear the camo suit
>>
>>6145634
from head to toe. he's the worst. And the rifle is too big. I just picked up 6 Kings. KoKomo on ebay has them for 30, shipped.
>>
>>6126876
I have tried to destroy these. The ball at the top of the legs can warp/split after sitting in boiling water. If the figures are too stiff, run them under the hot tap.
>>
>>6145879
>from head to toe. he's the worst.

It's like the same damn figure with a new head and gun lol. If he likes the design it's just as good as the others.

Bucks team ranked as I like them:

1.King
2.Bob
3.Argus
4.Steel
5.Jack
>>

>>
Does the Raptor Mk1 have any weight to it? Looked really light in the review I watched.
>>
>>6148039
I don't have a scale but yes, it's somewhat lighter in hand than expected. It still doesn't feel brittle in my opinion, though. Pulling it from the axle for the first time I felt like I was going to break it but that didn't happen and since that virgin time it's hasn't felt too tight since.
>>
>>6148099
I should note that you pull the wheels from the axle to transform it.

I'm not a fan of the Laurel marine's shotgun (too cartoonish) or the labor Laurels and their mining tools (even more cartoonish) so this is the best weapon I've seen on a Laurel yet.

I dunno if I want it to come on a 'scrapyard' version, though, and I dunno if this is just a one-off custom or something that's going production.
>>
>>6162851
Isn't that just the Laurel Corpse with a visor?
>>
>>6164009
>Laurel Corpse
well shit I don't know why I blocked that one out of my mind.Pprobably because of its ugly stupid color.

I want to see that gun on a better Laurel. I haven't bought a Laurel yet because I haven;t like any of the color/weapon configurations.

B2Five is gonna be shown off next weekend at the HK con
>>

I've long admired this range's look as I've browsed /toy/. Thinking of taking the plunge with how cool the upcoming Abaddon Trooper looks but have a few questions:

Are they likely to produce others in the Abaddon line like officers or is it likely to be just the troopers?

Are the heads on these guys interchangable?

Where is the best stockist to get them in the UK outside of buying on eBay?
>>
>>6174570

>>Are they likely to produce others in the Abaddon line like officers or is it likely to be just the troopers?

Okay, guys. I wanna grab one of these guys. Argus or Jack?
>>
>>6175079
On Ebay there's a King from a US seller I've bought from before @ 32.99 shipped to US, I'd rather get that than a Jack or Argus if the price is comparable

Not a fan of Jack but I think it's a little better of a figure than Argus if you have to pick one of the two

Just subjective opinions on look and accessories here, none are bad toys
>>
>>6101018
Literally me and what I was about to rant about.

I fucking love this line but it's almost IMPOSSIBLE to get ANY figure.
I had Bob and Jack from somebody here and that was legit almost a year ago.
I CAN NOT get any others as they're gone everywhere.

So I caved and sold Bob for almost $80.
Stuck with Jack now.

I'd probably also pick King if I was pressed. Jack's sheer number of guns is pretty fun, although I'm not a fan of the anime hair, but it does give him character. Argus has a sweet headsculpt and I for one like his fuckhuge sniper rifle. His cloak comes off of course and he looks cool without it too.

I mean, they're hard to get hold of after the fact, but the marine infantry and taste of coffee were up for pre-order for at least six months on bbts.

>>6187797
The missile pods/arms(?) I'm sure they're just stiff, or the paint has them a bit frozen, but I'm just super worried about things snapping.
>>
>>6187807
You've flipped the shoulder panels up and out of the way, yeah?

It's probably just the paint wash and it having sat in the warehouse for a while) since the strongholds are one of the oldest ARW things made. Maybe set it somewhere warm and then just trying to rock the joints back and forth a bit.

I don't know of anyone having issues with the vehicles breaking, they're pretty sturdy. Good luck!
>>
>>6187788
I don't have the Stronghold but the first time I ever transformed my Raptor I had to take its virginity and pull real hard enough to -CRACK!- the legs off the axle. I guess the paint had made that real tight? I was terrified I broke it but fortunately nothing happened and it's worked fine since.
