Honestly...I think the faces do look better than the original promo shots but the overall loss of texture and detail is too much to ignore. It's basically an out of scale and differently proportioned version of the SHF. The difference being that the SHF actually has the proper sculpting and proportions to accentuate the more "classic look". This looks like it should be coming out of SFV but lacks any of the detail or texture you'd expect from that style.

Pros of Storm Collectibles Ryu:
-Has 4 more hands than SHF. SHF has hadouken hands pulling triple duty because they don't include kung fu pose hands or charging hands like the SC.
-Hadouken effect is subjectively better because it has two modes and looks beefy. SHF effect looks kind of generic and small but it should work well with Chun-li so that's a plus.
-Can remove gi.

Cons of Storm Collectibles Ryu:
-Out of scale, is 7 inches when it should be 5.9 inches like the SHF. Ryu is 5'9'' tall.
-Stand looks kinda shit and annoying to use.
-Super soft looking sculpt and questionable black wash that isn't heavy enough to accentuate details properly. Total loss of texture and details.
-SFV proportions.

I'm canceling mine because it comes off as a worse SHF and they haven't shown off any females either. It's a shame, I kind of wanted a SFV display but this just doesn't capture SFV that well.

The hadouken throw is bad too. Arms can't cross in front of chest and effect itself is sculpted with that in mind. You can see it in this shot here (pic related) The SHF can actually have the hands meet in the middle like they should and of course the charge looks better too.

Please for the love of god, do not drop the ball this hard on the SHF.

oh geez, it's another thread with ignorant people who don't understand that different lighting and using colored plastics will make a sculpt look different, despite being 999999.99% accurate to the original prototype.

How cute. Sorry but the texture in the sculpt has been lost either by thickly applied paint apps, crap factory molds or bad planning that didn't account for the former two things. It's not unusual for detail to get lost in the final production version but they clearly made the sculpt too subtle and the paint has covered all the texture work. Look at how fucking smooth it is.

Go look at all the places with fine details. The gi, the hair, the tattered ends and hem of the robe.
Just look at the fingers.
All those fine details are still there and the fingers' details are actually sharper and more apparent. Guess why? LIGHTING.

If any details were actually lost in the molding process, those finely detailed areas would be the ones that would lose the most detail.

And no, spots missing a WASH detail doesn't mean the sculpted detail is gone. It just means the wash is inaccurate like washes are, especially when they're handed over to 4 year old chinese to be painted.

I had hope for Storm Collectibles, but this has kinda killed the dream.

I didn't want Ryu that much anyway but at this point it's just gonna be about who churns them out in greater numbers. I think the SHFs look pretty piss poor too, and those are the prototypes. I'm expecting the final versions to look much worse.

The one figure I want is a Juri, but I have my doubts on both sides. SHF will make her look like some kind of retarded sailor moon character like they did with Chun Li. Storm Collectibles will make her look like a tranny.

Isn't this the same company that's responsible for putting out the Mortal Kombat figures? If so, any hope I had for that turning out well is out the window with how he came out.

Who else is looking forward to a heavily discounted SC Ryu?

The early Naruto SHF looked terrible from day one. There was never a point at which they looked good. People were just excited because Naruto figures. Same way people got excited by SHF One Piece and those were mostly garbage too. Yeah the prototypes looked marginally better but still.

The Street Fighter line despite some whiny naysayers who wanted the SFV looks replicated is looking like it's in good hands. Ryu and Chun-li are both accurate to the older style and generally look like decent figures.

Sennin version compared to regular version looks night and day from each other. you can say that to the DB line too for the early released figures but they have improved too like Awakening Goku, Broly, Super Vegeta etc.

It's a $55 figure via Bluefin and a 7,320 yen (over 2,000 yen more than SHF) for Japanese customers. Plain IS horrid. The articulation isn't up to the task of doing iconic poses either. It can't charge a hadouken as well as the SHF nor throw it as well as the SHF.

It looks decent enough, definitely the "best" Mortal Kombat figure in terms of pure articulation. The scale is of course fucked and those soft rubber parts may not hold up well over time. If they are molded in color and just have a wash added on them you don't have to worry about paint cracking too much though. I'm assuming they are molded in color.

If you like the price, don't mind the scale and don't mind the use of lots of soft parts then I say go for it.

all it needs to fit in with is its own line. I dont mash universes/figure lines together and leave my shelves looking like a jumbled mess so this is fine with me

Paint-wise it's not even close to the prototype. It looks plain as fuck.

Articulation however is below average. He can't pull off his signature moves, what's the point then?

The one thing I'd say I'm not feeling on the SHF is the chest being kinda hollow to allow for better articulation...it makes him look too thin. Anyone else feels the same about thaT?

Also I'm surprised Bandai is making that poll for japanese buyers considering SFV is much bigger in the US. I wonder what are the chances for Ibuki or Cammy. Akuma is a given.

Well I'm glad I didn't plan on buying this but at the same time I'm depressed about it. Too many figures these days end up being downgrades, it just wears down my spirit.
