Figures No One Wants Edition

Will figures like this ever sell out?

No.

Old thread here >>6049934
>>
>>6064515
God, there's like three good parts of this toy, but then there's the GIGANTIC RED AREA instead of any kind of clothing or costume design.

Also, shitty elbows, and on mine the knees just straight up don't work.
>>
>>6064515
Pour one out for all the Misties, GOTG wave Iron Men, and Wasps out there.
>>
it's because when filling a wave Hasbro doesn't look for characters people want, they instead look for whichever comic designs will let them reuse the most parts, most likely from bucky cap
>>
I have no idea who this character is but I think she's kind of cool looking. She does need something to break up all that red, though.
>>
>>6064515
You can even see a partial fingerprint on the upper thigh.
>>
>>6064524
Those legs are probably the worst body part currently in use. There's maybe only one female body in the line that I'd actually call good, but those legs should have been retired years ago.

>>6064562
I mean, It's a really interesting way to not just design toys, but also market a line. Marvel probably has a uniquely huge stable of characters to draw from, so I appreciate that the line does D-listers regularly. Hasbro seems to have made their peace with 1-2 figures out of every wave being shelfwamers, but I wonder how retailers feel about it.

>>6064576
I'll never forget that pic from a couple months ago where someone did a baf part switcharoo with her, but completely repainted her with a red and black jumpsuit. They did a pretty good job, too.

>>6064576
It's the comics version of Slutty Nancy Drew here.

Hopefully by season two she'll get a robot arm and a new, iconic costume and we can bitch about not getting a toy of her too.
>>
>>6064562
well youre not wrong, but I think if they stick 2-4 popular characters in a wave, they whole wave will sell, especially because of the BAF and retailers. If they put all the good characters in one wave they won't maximize profits because some people only feel comfortable buying 3-4 figures in a wave, and they will eventually run out of the staple characters. When they start putting literally whos in a wave together it will sell like garbage. This is the best way for them to make money but still appeal to collectors and kids alike.

Don't forget Sentry.

Also, recent purchases as of the last week or so. Stuck shoulders all around on the skinny make body, a doslocated neck disc in Sleed Demon, and I would up shaving down Gwen's torso socket to get some more range. Pretty happy with all of these.
>>
Are the western Marvel figures ever as good as the Japanese ones?

I used to think the various Marvel figures were great and thought about collecting them, but since getting into figurarts/figma/revoltech the western figures all come up short.
>>
>>6064562
while this is most likely true... Marvel has been known to push their bullshit lesser known characters that don't sell very well. That's part of what killed Disney Infinity.
>>
>>6065171
Well the more collector-oriented lines usually have more work put into them but are also typically more expensive. It's also worth comparing them on a case-by-case basis, I know the Star Wars Black/SHF debate over which is better is a fucking can of worms around here, it comes down to which qualities in the figures you're looking for and value more.
>>
>>6065171
You have to realize that these are 1/3 the price
Marvel Legends are great for fans of characters/costumes that will never see a movie or huge casts of characters. I'm not saying they're perfect, but they have their niche
>>
>>6064536
I bought that Iron Man at Walmart for $2.80, and it is totally worth it.

It's a rock and a hard place filling waves. We don't need the 24th version of Iron man or Cap, but when they do make obscure characters they shelf warm hard.
>>
>>6065526
And the funny part is that retail is pretty much the complete opposite of what people always ask for here. Everyone's tired of Caps and iron mangs, but they ALWAYS move, while movie villains warm hard. I was still seeing movie winter soldiers at several targets in my area early this year.
>>
>>6065542
Didn't werewolf Cap shelfwarm pretty hard? I see it everywhere for 11 bucks.
>>
>>6065579
I think my area got shorted on his case, so I'm not really sure. The movie stuff seems like it sells pretty well though, I barely saw cap or iron man from the giant man wave for instance.

I really wish the new 2099 came with any options for alternate hands, just fists doesn't cut it anymore. I remember reading something about how they don't fit the pegs from pizza spidey pegs, does anyone know what hands would work instead?
>>
>>6065620
Hasbro seem to have shifter away from the tapered, conical pegs to a straight peg with a slightly thicker section. The first iteration of this type of peg that I can recall is Odin wave Iron Fist, followed by ASM2 Electro. Most of the current swappable hand figures out there have moved to that peg type--including figures on the Pizza Spidey base, like Speed Demon and Electro.

tl;dr just get the white Iron Fist and expect to paint the hands.

for as much as she pegwarms, nobody's discounting her. I'm hoping she hits ~10 on amazon with the rest of the legends they're putting on clearance.

>This also gives me hope that Kamala won't be complete scalperbait.
Her book is one of marvel's consistently best sellers. It's literally gonna be spider-gwen round 2.
>>
>>6065723
I actually ended up reading (and buying) Silk's comics after I got her figure. Then again I was already mildly interested in her character beforehand so I guess that helped.
>>
Is the marvellegends.net guy out of the hobby? They haven't updated the waves since Absorbing Man.
>>

>It's literally gonna be spider-gwen round 2.
So... easy to get, then?

Spider Gwen is available on amazon right now for retail post-tax. And less than a month after her release HTS had her on their site for retail, where she was available for 3+ months before selling out.

Non-exclusive ML are not hard to get.
>>
>>6065959
Basically, unless you're trying to find it at retail. I got a gwen without too much trouble after she was out, but to this day I've never seen one in a store.

There is supposed to be an entire wave of Netflix characters but we've only seen Jessica Jones and Punisher. I would put good money on Daredevil being in the list as well as Iron Fist and Luke Cage.

That gives us 5, any guesses on the other 3? Maybe Killgrave, Fisk and Elektra?

>>
>>6066025

>>
>>6065977
Yyyyyyeah, that's almost certainly the truth with retail shops and them stocking highly sought out figures. But no serious collector should be hunting pegs anymore, so it's always going to be a moot issue and not even worth addressing.

The rarity of figures at retail stores is as noteworthy as the rarity of horse drawn buggies. I'm amazed with how it's still ever being brought up as a factor that could impact somebody's life.
>>
>>6066006
I'd love a Daredevil, Punisher, Elektra, Jessica, Kilgrave and Fisk as the BAF.

Then have them follow that up with another wave with Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Diamondback, Stick or whoever else would make a significant pick from Danny's show.
>>
>>6066053

I wonder if a Netflix wave went over well if we'd see a chance of getting an Agents of Shield wave.
>>
>>6066035
I've actually liked all their other exclusives bar daredevil because I always hated that costume. Black ant is still one of my favorite shameless pizza-spidey repaints. It's just that another reuse of buckycap would be weird enough on it's own with so many better options, but then there's the fact that literally the comic BP before him was on the same body. When what body a particular legend is on makes so much difference, It makes no sense at all to use buckycap again.

>>6066046
>But no serious collector should be hunting pegs anymore, so it's always going to be a moot issue and not even worth addressing.
I mean, I understand what you're saying, but I think a lot of it comes from the frustration with the choice of either hunting in person, or paying scalper prices for figures that are barely worth retail. I've gotten lucky with most of the chase figures this year, but I never caught a restock on movie panther and ended up paying 35 for him in september. Shit drove me up the wall.

Retail is so weird, because it obviously informs a ton of decisions about what characters we get, and then ends up being hell for actually finding one or two characters out of any given wave. You'd think this wouldn't be a problem well into the age of online shopping.

>>6066053
I'd absolutely love it if they tossed in a hand ninja two per case. Hell, have red and black variants.
>>
>>6066058
I don't see a whole AoS wave selling much, but they could throw out a figure here and there placed in a few waves until we get at least most of the main team, maybe. I'd buy them.
>>
>>6066006
There's no way they'd do an entire wave of Netflix characters. They'll probably split them up among multiple waves.
>>6066058
>>6066107
No one gives a shit about AoS, only character I could possibly see getting a figure is a Ghost Rider, and that's very slim.
>>
>>6066074
>hand ninja two per case
That's a wonderful dream. But since they aren't the heroes of the story, army builders don't get doubled up.
>>
>>6066111
He basically looks like the current ML. Then again, they keep putting out iterative do-overs of the goddamn Iron Fist every wave, so I guess they could do an MCU Robbie Reyes.

>tfw no Quake, no Melinda May even though she'd just be another new head on a black widow body, no Hive or even a MCU Mockingbird.
>>

Are you me? I really like the wave too minus Kamala, which I guess is more out of being indifferent to her than not wanting her. Sandman looks alright, kind of wish they gave him a smaller frame. I'm looking forward to Shocker, Green Goblin, and Symbiote the most. How are those three (especially Shocker)?
>>
>>6066521

How much is the old Sandman running these days. He's smaller and probably a lot better, imo.
>>
>>6066521
I only have shocker, but he was the one I was looking forward to most and he's a little disappointing. The bracers are great, but they make the kneepads look extra cheap in comparison. His expression is just kind of weird too, I see what they were going for but it doesn't really get there. He does the job overall, and I'm happy to get another member of the superior foes, but I can't help but feel like he could have been done better. Different anon, btw.

>>6066554
Not sure. I think this Sandman's biggest flaw is not coming with normal hands. I was one of those kids that would prefer a standard figure against a gimmicky one. Not to say the sand effects aren't cool. I would have sacrificed that extra effect head and the extra sand effects for normal arms. Probably due to budget and/or packaging constraints or something. It's water under the bridge, and I'll happily forgive them if they nail Mysterio when he happens.

do you think we'll ever get to the point where figures can essentially be made "on demand"? I dont even mean instantly, but just some ability to order more specific batches instead of getting the preset case assortment, which was manufactured months ahead of time

I feel like its been decades of the same old case assortment and preorder process which seems incredibly outdated in our current marketplace and is obviously the root of shelfwarmers

I think you hit on the biggest problem already, that whatever you're just now seeing in stores was made months ago. Even when they do see a particular figure getting scalped, their only option is to release another case with more of it and by then it's old news. That's probably not going away until/unless 3d printers go full replicator in the near future.

I think the best workable solution would be for western companies to just take preorders and have set release dates. They produce what they need, people get what they want, everyone's happy. The biggest thing that would keep it from happening with a line like marvel legends is that they wouldn't get to make as many nobodies without a-listers in the same case to prop them up. There's a reason bandai and max factory play it safe a lot of the time. Also, retailers probably wouldn't like playing second fiddle, but I'll admit I don't know shit about that relationship.

Nobody is talking to you fatbody.

The toy isn't rare so there is no hunting down, it's also the holiday season so i'll most likely be at target this weekend.

Throwing two figures in a box and printing a label online takes a total of about 5 minutes. Maybe add 2 minutes to that since it's international. USPS pickups are free and can be scheduled easily.

If his post was nicer, I most likely would have helped him. People on /toy/ have been very generous to me and I have gotten some great deals on here and I'm trying to pay it forward.

So how about you lose some weight, hit the showers, and get a clue.

The new green goblin is on a new torso, right? It's blowing my mind that they still gave him a 4mm peghole in his back instead of the way more common 3mm. As far as I know they haven't made a stand that uses those since the toybiz days. Normally I wouldn't care, but come on, he's even supposed to fly.

>>6070805
I think there's a pretty common thread between those two camps though, popular characters move while the nobodies don't. I'd maybe even list Captain marvel as an exception because she was actually the rare figure of the the allfather wave when it first came out. Hasbro just made a case of it for every man, woman, and child on earth, so supply caught up pretty quick.

Glutting is becoming an issue
Hasbro over estimated the demand and we are hitting troves of slow selling figures
At most this year should have been the Civil War wave, and Dr.Strange wave mix up who's in the waves but it should have only been a summer and fall wave.
The four extra waves are kicking shit and making pegs clogged. Watch, next summers waves will be the most priciest and rarest.
Bravo Hasbro, you made the same mistake with Marvel Legends you did a decade ago.

I'm getting a Darkhawk figure, so I'm happy.

Definitely getting him, and might pick up Major Victory and Nova. Don't care about anything else in that wave.

Yeah, I really want a Baron now, also what wave do you guys think had the best vintage Captain America / Iron Man? I didn't start collecting Marvel Legends until the Civil War wave came out and I really don't like these guys that much anymore.
>>
>>6071592
It's not that I don't like Capt. he just looks too derpy to me
>>
>>6071179
I'm not necessarily excited, because I don't read Nova, but I' be getting him to go with my Miles and Kamala. And since the body he's on is pretty good, unless the new GotG wave is plagued by the same super rubbery plastic as the last, It'll be a pretty good figure.
>>
They really need to make a new 6" The Lizard and Dr. Octo

What is the best First Appearance Cap. Hasbro has made?
>>
>>6071712
They made one. It's on the left. If you count Toy Biz, there are three.

>>6071712

>>
>>6070863
Hasbro really sucks with distribution. Like I can't tell if it's poor planning or some sort of chain effect from releasing a wave that didn't sell as well. I don't know about other areas, but mine usually get a wave a few weeks after it hits, then nothing for a while. It will be like six months later, then bam a new wave each month. Sometimes they'll skip waves, but a year from now we'll see that wave later. No other company I know does this, not even in the toy industry.
>>
>>6071666
Regular one is also delayed.

Hopefully since they took the time to sculpt scaling for all those limbs for the newer Hob Goblin and Green Goblin figure, they'll actually sculpt a scaled upper torso and reuse the Goblin upper arms for a classic cap mold that ACTUALLY has scales where it should.

Are you Canadian? Because all we had were hawkeyes and machine mans, but now we also have a fuckton (10-15 per store) of number 6 from the rhino wave. And that's it.
>>
>>6071629
Mysterio too.
>>
>>6070882
>Yeah, we've basically had a wave hitting every month and a half this year.
Not here. We got allfather, allfather, briefly rhino, now we're at red onslaught and what I assume are cases of only cap/iron man from the giant man wave.

I just secured a Walmart Bucky, too!

And why double up on Black Panther? I would've added Black Widow or Spidey to complete the exclusive quadfecta.
>>
>>6072345
Word is the only reason Spidey was exclusive to that three pack is that for Civil War at least they couldn't sell a figure of him on his own for whatever reason. Pretty sure all Civil War Spider-Man toys had to have him packaged with someone else.

Does seem weird they'd release two Black Panthers again, since they already made him more common through revision cases. Having one of him and two Scarlet Witches, or even replacing him with Black Widow, would have made a lot more sense.
>>
>>6071179
I'm loving Champions so I'm probably gonna pick him up

>>
>>6072411
Okay? Don't see what that has to do with whether or not anyone gives a fuck about Captain Marvel
>>
>>6072354
It would have made people a lot more happy to get War Machine Mk III packed in there instead of Mk II, and maybe repack Ant-Man instead of 2X Panthers. I mean, if they're going to revise most of the CW assortment anyway, go all-in.

That said, I've got my BP and don't really care for it. Might pick up some of the otherse with BAF pieces and complete Giant-Man since I'm already 1/3 there.

>>6072580
He's actually like a giant space marine now. But even back then, few artists drew him this abstract other than in certain moments. The way his jaw looks is a tad wonky, and though the effects of his body are cool, I personally prefer my Venom a bit less goopy and what not. It's definitely a cool design though, but not my favourite Venom.

Well, if the asker is looking for a stylized Venom with absurd articulation, they wouldn't be wrong. The other options are pretty much just the Select or the Legends otherwise. They all have their niche.

Hopefully not long.

There are rumors Eddie might be coming back though, he's confirmed to show up at some point (along with Flash) and there's a big special issue coming up, Venom #150 because that's how many Venom issues there will have been in total.

I'm glad I took a chance on green goblin after being disappointed in hobgoblin, he ended up far better. The joints still aren't great, but the lack of a cape actually does him some favors there, the new glider is way easier to get him standing on, and the new head is amazing where hobo's literally looked unfinished.

DESU he has what might be best painted head hasbro's done in the entire line.
>base green plastic
>black wash on everything
>black paint for mouth and around eyes
>white for teeth
>yellow eyeballs
>orange iris
>black pupils

If they'd included an osborne head he'd be pretty close to perfect.
