Looking to get a set for my nephew since I had a blast with them as a kid but I honestly have no clue what I'm doing
You'd think a basic kit would be maybe $40 or so nowadays but goddamn this shit's expensive
I was eyeing https://www.amazon.com/Carrera-GO-Ferrari-GT-Experience/dp/B00NAR2KGM/ but it seems like the models are on the nice side, he'd probably ruin them pretty fast
Other (cheaper) option was this https://www.amazon.com/Scalextric-Micro-Hyper-Cars-Race-Set/dp/B00IJZIFW8/ but the reviews make it out to be shit
What do?
Any recommended brands?
I want to get him a traditional slot racer, not one of those new fangled anki things
Scalexctrics is the gold standard. 10 years ago, my dad bought me a $240 set with 2 Lola GP cars, like in your pic. The track was an elongated ovular figure 8 with a bridge and railings. It took skill to keep them on the track.
$40 will buy you shit that is kitschy and will instantly lose its value.
Carrera GO is fun, but the cars are pretty tiny. That track is awesome though...
Maybe buy a bit simpler track in larger scale or buy used?

I'm trying to find something but most stuff is from third party sellers or out of stock and therefore probably won't arrive on time
maybe I'll check out some hobby stores, better luck there probably
there aren't many where I live though

one of the first result for "slot cars" on Amazon, I assumed it was a thing
this is the next gen of slot racers https://anki.com/en-ca i want this sooooo bad
I could never get gud at slotcars because my cat would swat them off the track.
I wanted to see if slot cars were a fun hobby, so i got a golden bright set for seventy bucks. It's basically super cheap, but it's pretty durable. I wasn't going to drop hundreds of dollars on a simple oval if I was bored of it in half an hour.
Golden bright licenses to a ton of places, I got a 'fast lane' slot car set from toys r us that has a fairly huge layout. I think it was called long bridge challenge or something.
