For those unfamiliar, "Plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model." If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.

***Non-Gundam Group Build***

So this is pretty straightforward, build something that isn't Gundam. I literally do not care what it is, if it's not Gundam it counts (and just to get this out of the way, Bandai is fine). I do not require full paint jobs this time either, as I know the vast majority of people here build Bandai and that's it.

This is also not a prize build, but a regular group build.

I care.
>>
>>6053166
do you mean not part of the gundam franchise, or not a gundam-type MS?
>>
>>6053190
If you make a roll of blue tac or something like that, place it on the surface, and give it a light push so it sticks in place, then the widest part of that roll won't be were it contacts the model, but a bit above, and then it'll curve inwards. Even if you don't actively try to make it like that, you'll have to push things around a good bit to make it not be the case.

The widest part of your masking substance overhangs the base (the part in contact with the model) of it.

If you have that overhang, and spray largely from straight above, then a bit of paint will leak in under it, despite the direct path from airbrush to model being blocked by the widest part of the blue-tac, giving you a slightly fuzzy border.

Or you can spray in slightly from the side, so you get a direct path, and a sharp border.
>>
>>6053209
I'm interpreting it as "does not have the word 'Gundam' anywhere on the box".

>>6053210
Oh, neat. Got it, I'll keep it in mind when tackling camo.

Does anyone happen to know if the Ryusei-Go is the same berrylicious colour as the Aegis and Justice? I'm assuming Flauros is going to be the same colour as Ryusei-Go and with some minor changes I could really get into that design.

New Anon from last week. I decided to start painting for the first time. Guinea pig was a GM Sniper II in artic colors. It's really rough but it was a great learning experience. Anyways if anyone has any tips or pointers I'd like to hear em!

I offered to get an Gundam Altron/Dragon for my brother who use to love it in wing, but he politely declined. I figure it makes sense considering all his time is spent in medical classes or working.

My family bought me the Revive RX-78-2, God Gundam and the SD Neo Zeong. I'm quite happy with those, or will be come the 25th and unwrapping.

So, I am comparing the various HG releases of the RX-78-2, and I am thinking that to original HG might be the best route to go in making my HG version of the RX-78-2 T, so I will have one to go along with my SD version.

Anyone know if there is a stupidly basic looking Gundam I can spray or handpaint to look like picture related?

>>
>>6053723

i see from skirt plate that you painted the pieces white before taking them off, its not advisable since it leaves an ugly nub scar with its originals plastic colors.

there are many ways to "re-do" the apeshit stain, sand it off with a 600 to 800 grit sandpaper and paint it over, etc.

Any of them? SD is just a small Gundam, I don't see why you can't just paint the HGUC or Revive, it's going to be the same with HG scale and each would have slightly different proportions or detail. You do know you can create or cover as much detail as you want on a model with plastic sheets and putty, right?

How does one go around priming frames?

Separate the individual pieces of each part then prime (i.e. separate the leg of a frame into its components) or prime each part as a whole (i.e. prime the whole leg frame in one go)?

Feels good to finally get the waterslides done. After a year of leaving it plain I got to work. I hecked up in a couple of places and I regret not having the right setup for seamlines. While it is regrettable, I plan to put clear coat on to finish it off and hopefully hide any small blemishes.

>Lightweight
>Most of the length is beam
>No long handle that can be cut by enemy beam
>It melts through things instead of relying on mass
It can be just as long as a pole weapon for reach.

There is a reason that the beam javelin never really took off or saw much further use.

In ibo there was no beams (Until this past episode) and no beam sabers so the polearm is still king of melee weaponry.

Gusions whole thing is that it's an armored powerhouse. Plus the Geirail was kind of a shit MS even for its time.
>>

I see it like an expensive, master tooled and built Gundam with probably no expenses spared when designed with technologies from hundreds of years ago, against a grunt suit built for a combination of price and efficiency.

>against a grunt suit built for a combination of price and efficiency.

Geirail manual specifically states that it was built with "Easy to maintain" in mind over being powerful since MS fell out of use post-war and they didn't really need overly strong MS anymore to keep the peace. Same with the Graze which replaced it. The entire reason they're rolling out the Reginlaze is that people are using MS again and they need a better unit that can put up a show of force.

Iok is really damaging the whole "strong" image they're trying to enforce though.

For the dijeh i just used some aves apoxy putty to make the dragonbone pauldron and cemented it to the top of the right sholder. Its not too heavy so it doesnt weight down the dijeh. The head is made of the djieh head with some master gundam skirt parts to make the sides and top of the helm. I went with a dijeh because i didnt want to ruin an mg zaku if i messed up.

For the kit on the right, i basically took my old brave commander type and added styrene plates over its body to make it look like plated armor. For its sholders, i used the wrist armor from an old 1/100 ng wing zero custom.

if you have to succumb, make sure you buy new kits or really cheap gm kits, i bought 10 kits and had to ship it all back to AUSTRALIA for 7000 yen. I weeped

I did try Gundam maxiboost and the gundam pod games

Playing maxiboost is fun if you do an arcade mode on your favourite machines you havnt played with yet (like legilis)
But DONT play against otaku, they will kick your asshole and mock you by standing there and blocking. My excuse is not getting used to the arcade controls from ps3 and being one versus two japs. Fuck them. Only 100 yen a play tho, arcades are real cheap.

The gundam pod was fuckin A
You are essentially inside a cockpit and the build fighters music plays, its orgasmic. You move with pedals and fly over the map shooting zakus or gms. Its heaps of fun.

In short, try out the arcades. But dont get scammed by ufo catchers. (Unless you ask one of the workers how to play, they will give you a few tips)

>He doesn't carry his trusty, custom HG in an official Bandai Gunpla holster in case someone challenges him to a gunpla battle.
>>
>>6056554
Oh man, I'd have weeped too. My plan was to just bring an extra luggage bag and fill it with gunpla. Although, now that I think about it, that probably wouldn't end so well for the gunpla since the bags of luggage are kind of just thrown in there and probably spend the whole flight crushing each other..

I've never heard of maxiboost until now but alright, your advice has been noted.
Man, you're making me even more hype to play the pod though. That's the main thing I'm looking to play. Are the pods and other arcade games seen in any common arcade, or can I only find them in some super specific places like huge shopping center arcades or something?
Also, how friendly/helpful were the workers? I planned on asking for help since I won't know how to play the games, but I was afraid it wouldn't amount to much due to the language barrier, and I've heard a lot of japs don't really like tourists so I was worried they wouldn't be too friendly. Not sure if that last thing is really true though, just what I've heard.
>>
>>6056569
Trust me if Gunpla battle was real I would spend more money on customizing than kits.

Waterslides are on the blue backed material, right? Normal decals are not?
>>
>>6056594
Usually. In my experience the sticker decals and waterslides are different shades, though honestly they're really similar shades.

Damn. I might have to leave them off my Nu in that case. Thank you.
>>

Just to latch onto your subject.

Are waterslide sheets specific to the gundam model, or can you just use any since its mostly engineering babble?
I really like those small numbers and markings on all the plates and shit, and I want them for my Barbatos kit to liven it up.

Carry on can work too, one backpack and a bag of gunpla will work

Have you played extreme vs series before? Otherwise its still fun on arcade.

I played it at a building that had restaurants on the first floor and then a large arcade on the second floor that had ufo catchers and a crepe shop. It was in Kyoto, nijo station, which actually is only two stops from the actual Kyoto station that has the kyoto hotel and kyoto tower. If you stop at that famous station, take a ride to Nijou. You will see the building when you exit. However, visit yodobashi camera near Kyoto station for fantastic gunpla displays.

As for requesting help, brush up on a lil Japanese or buy a phrase dictionary and learn the key phrases you want. Japanese people are very very friendly, and are happy to help you. Knowing a bit of the language will score brownie points too.

Wherever you heard the locals being unfriendly bullshit, has never visited Japan or has a bad attitude and stinks like shit.
>>
>>6056604
If you're talking about the Nu Gundam Ver. Ka then they're waterslides.

>>6056606
No rule that says you match kits and decals, but generally you'd want to match decals with kits since the decals were designed for the specific kit.

Still, if you're not bothered with the specifics go ahead. Make your ZAFT Barbatos or something.
>>
I have a Hi-Zack and I don't like it at all
What do I do with it? I'd get the Vanargand conversion kit but I don't know if I want to spend so much money on that
>>
>>6056609
The Nu Gundam SD.
>>
>>6056560
That's mostly true of custom builds too, they can be stupidly expensive once you start buying equipment and materials. I imagine that big ass Jesta mobile armor that won a contest cost a few hundred in supplies alone.

My airbrush setup and collection of paints I still have probably cost me like 700 USD. Not to mention my spray booth and respirator mask, plus the table to put all that junk on. And my putty, HIPS sheets, various cutting and scoring tools, etc. Yeah a lot of them are one-time purchases but are good chunk are really consumables.

Good idea. And nah, I haven't. I've heard of it though, guess I'll try it when I'm there.

Thanks for the directions! Also, thanks for answering all my questions, it's really helping me with planning out the trip.

Are there any other areas you'd recommend going to?

Well the head currently rotates and looks up and down from time to time but I'd love to see some more movement in the arms, or just panels opening and closing across the body. I'd pay whatever stupid amount of yen to sit in the cockpit if they made that an option too.

No worries man, that picture of garma I posted, was in a Gundam bar in Osu, Nagoya. Its called Sieg Zeon. Its a very Lala themed bar but the guy who owns it used to be a zeon soldier cosplayer and his collection is impressive. However it opens at like 5:00pm and a coke costs 500円...

But its very comfy, he put on the episode Tobe Gundam while I drank my coke. When I decided to go, he got out from the bar and we both saluted each other and said "Sieg Zeon!"

Nagoya doesn't really have much to do though, sakae is a good choice if you do go, and Osu is like a cosplay district. Id recommend just going to the big three, Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka. Although, an occasional detour to a new place is fine, be adventorous! If you can do it, take a shinkansen to Hiroshima to see the A-Bomb dome. Its actually quite the emotional atmosphere when you go into the museum and look at the displays of destruction.

If you want, do some research into midnight buses if taking a shinkansen drains your wallet too much in the trip. Ive done it three times. Entirely up to you though.

Staying in a manga cafe overnight can be cheap, for less than 1000 yen you get access to internet, a chair that leans back 90 degrees lying down, and mango everywhere. But a hotel might be more convenient if you are a first timer to Japan.

>Wherever you heard the locals being unfriendly bullshit, has never visited Japan or has a bad attitude and stinks like shit.

This is honestly my experience as well. Locals were all super nice and helpful across different cities, I was in Gifu, Nagoya, Tokyo, Kyoto and Nara and from museums, to restaurants and bars, they were all nice. The only rude guy was the multiple storey moe pillow store in Akihabara I got lost to, he got offended when I asked him if he had any gunpla or revoltechs on any of the floors... but really that was just that one slimy looking guy. Everyone else, from all ages were super nice.

Probably the G-Self.

It would make sense because Turn A was the 100th.
>>
Thirteen SD kits for $110. Two box sets, to be entirely accurate. Does that price seem acceptable?
>>
>>6056888
I can see it now.

There's going to be a special edition like the Turn A did to help drive up sales. This might be a tactic Bandai will employ because G-Self really wasn't that popular.

G-Self is also a great design. Both Turn A and G-Self are meant to really do a new take on the original's look, I actually like both. That being said, I don't collect MGs so I don't have a horse in this race.

So, how do the rest of you posting here feel about older gunpla? I have been looking at the 80's MSV kits, as well as the older G-generation Zero / G-generation F kits, but I have noticed some issues between older and newer suits. Mostly it is scale - compare the SD kits below - would a kit half the size of a SD really be worth around the $5-10 or so average cost? I can completely understand markup due to age/desire for the kit, but I feel like I might be getting shafted in the long run if I start picking up stuff like the Zaku Minelayer or Tank, and the CCA movie SD kits. Thoughts?
>>
>>6056885
What kit is that? Hard to read from the box
>>
>>6057085
Char's Z'Gok. HG.Just cropped the image to remove my RX-178 and the majority of the unneeded counter space shown in it, because it's not needed and only takes up space and loads slower for people looking at it.

Turn A's design was different and strived to be different. The build for it is unlike any other MG and it deserved the 100 slot. G Self looks different, but doesn't try anything new. It definitely looks like a Fisher Price toy.

I've got my fingers crossed for Age 3 MG, but I know that'll never happen.
