>>
>>6037896
The fun thing is I'm not sure what family/friends are getting me.

Astrotrain looks cool. MP Primal is a want, but he's pricey. Don't have BW Blackarachnia either. TFs are always a mystery for me honestly.

Just don't get Soundwave, he has a list spot for people irl.

I'd rather have that than my assignment that's overly specific.
>>
>>6037680
Nothing using shipping calculators on my local postal carrier and fedex for a 1pound box and that is the lowest I could get for a 1 pound 10x10x5 box which is much smaller than any single item I was going to send out. My SS lives in one of those bush countries. If I ship directly from on of the main import sites since their beside him its like 15 bux though. So I'm just gonna buy him something directly.

So Alex If your lurking this thread I have one question for you. Quality or quantity. Choose wisely your answer will determine the site I use.

Hello everyone, it's last year's Santa!

I hope everyone is having fun and spreading some Christmas cheer this year!

I'm not participating in this year's exchange, I haven't really been active on /toy/ since the end of last year's Secret Santa.

I just wanted to share with everyone some of the successes last year. We had almost 100 people sign up, and only 5 people didn't receive gifts. Believe in the Christmas spirit, it was there, despite what the threads would have you believe. There were also several gifts that went above and beyond and gifted boxes worth well over $100 when the agreed upon price was $20-$30. To all of you generous /toy/soldiers, thank you for your generosity. I know it made the holiday for some people.

I want to say one last thing, I've seen some of the bile thrown my way, and I tried. I led this exchange for two entire months of my life last year. In the midst of planning a wedding an working through finals in grad school, I did everything I promised. I know 5 people didn't receive gifts, but I sent their info to backup Santas and said I was done after that. If you were grinched last year by your Santa and your backup, I'm sorry, but I made it very clear from the beginning that you should only participate out of a spirit of giving, not receiving.

Rant over. Have a merry Christmas everyone. Santa, disregard the Trolls, I suspect there will be many this year as well. Just know that your work will bring joy to many.

Goodbye for good /toy/.
(Unless I get drunk again)

>>6056663
>It's weird they wrapped everything up weeks before December even started
While it is somewhat upsetting that trolls went out of their way to discourage as many people from participating as possible, this place's secret santa cut off at an appropriate time.

A week or so before Thanksgiving is ideal since it's best to get assignments ASAP so that the participants can take advantage of Black Friday sales and the like.

Your complaints about starting too early are better directed towards /a/, which ended theirs mid-October.
>>
>>6056663
They cut off signups before Black Friday last year too. On /a/ they have signups in September and I'm wishing I had that much time, I ordered stuff before BF and it still hasn't even left Japan.
>>
>>6056711
>>6056766
Word up homies

Can someone just send me a god damned TOY FROM MY LIST?

I LIKE...I LIKE GOKU, AND CHARIZARD, AND GODZILLA.
>>
>>6056663
What the fuck are you talking about? Assignments were sent out the week of thanksgiving which makes perfect sense if BF is the unofficial start of the holiday season. If you browse /toy/ even at a token frequency you'd have seen the signup thread weeks before the deadline. /a/ gets their SS organized months earlier than /toy/s and they have a pool literally ten times the size. You snooze you lose, take an actual interest in the board next year and you won't miss it.
>>
>>6056854
I do browse /toy/ typically every day, one week was a busy week for me and I probably visited /toy/ twice in the 3 days the XMas signup thread was up and happened to scroll past it.

I see some of these threads 1000 times, I come here plenty

I do take an "actual interest" in the board. How dare you judge me.
>>
>>6056882
The first SS thread started November 1st. There's no way you could browse here almost every day and miss it.
>>
>>6056896
Well I do and I still missed it. Of course that's my own fault. (I'll also blame that the thread must not have had a good image to stand out.)
>>
I agree that sign ups ended a bit early this year, but post December would have been way too late.

Also sign ups ended way earlier last year. I'm nt sure when it was exactly, but I got my assignment on November 16th.

The year before that signs ended on Thanksgiving, which I think was perfect.

Hey, John P. I'll be shipping your gift some time next week.

And is the guy who had Alexis W. still around? I haven't heard from you in awhile.
>>
I think my Santa forgot about me.
>>
>>6060891
Sorry, but a package is late, so I wont be shipping out today. Ill keep you updated.
>>
>>6063533
It's only the 10th and you feel that way?
>>
>>6062735
Thanks for keeping me updated! Just let me know when to look out for it.
>>
>>6060363
Some of my Santa's stuff is gonna be late because of shipping, but I wanted to send out the small portions that did arrive (since it's half of his list regardless). The only downside is that I got fucked by surprise car repair on my shitbox, and I gotta help my mom with bill payments since my dad's fucking useless. Guess I'll work overtime these next couple of weeks.

>>6060422
Don't worry about it.
>>
>>6060470
Alexis, got yours shipped, sent tracking to Santa!
>>
>santa sends me a tracking number
>have no idea which service it is for

I tried USPS and UPS and nothing. What else could I try? Hmm
>>
>>6064306

FedEx?
>>
>>6064311
Oh yeah, I'll try that next.
>>
>>6064311
Welp tried FedEx no dice.
>>
>>6061018
Thank you for keeping me updated anon, I'll definitely post photos when I get my parcel in the mail.
>>
>>6064339
DHL?
>>
>>6064402
tried that too, not sure what else to do.
There was a tracking number and a shipment ID but I've only been plugging the tracking number in with no results
>>
>>6064414
what's the tracking number start with?
>>
>>6064563
1zA and then a string of numbers
>>
>>6064582
that's usually what UPS numbers start with, could be missing a number

try a universal tracking site
>>
>>6064587
>universal tracking site
Those exist? Ok i'll try it
>>
>>6064587
So I tried a universal tracker and nothing. He probably sent it wrong. I'll send an email
>>
>>6064613
it's the most likely there's a number missing

for future reference:
USPS tracking numbers start with numbers, normally 9XXX (especially true if printed via Paypal)
FedEx tracking numbers start with random numbers
UPS tracking numbers begin with a 1, followed by a letter and numbers
>>
>>6064620
ok thanks, so its probably a UPS with a number missing, mystery solved

thanks anon
>>
>>6063533

>>
>>6067123
Aaaaand mailed out! Don't know how long it'll take but it's domestic so hopefully within a week or so.

I won't say who it is, I'll just say that they have some rather peculiar thoughts on freemasonry.

Yep it's fucking retarded. Instead of verifying payment at shipping they make you fill out half of the address. Email them to change the country. Then you can fill out the rest of the Address after. Whoever designed this system is full blown retarded. I should've used Amiami or Rakuten.
>>
The gift for my guy came in. Pleasantly surprised with how great the quality is considering the price. It was on sale but damn.

...holy shit. I wasn't expecting this at all! I'm so happy, I've had such a rough year and this has brightened up my day sooo much. I almost wish I had waited until Chrismas, but my work hours will probably kill me.
The Megaman and Predator where on my wishlist. Loved the Megaman games as a kid, and I wanted a NECA predator. Both are really cool.
This is my first 3rd party Transformer and my first Figuarts! I had a Figuarts ranger/Sentai on my wishlist to try one out, and I said I was also interested in 3P Transformers but had yet to buy one. But I didn't expect to get both! I'm saving the Figuart for christmas.

Man, this Shockwave is badass. I don't have many MPs so this is a huge treat. I don't have much time to build the Bionicle just yet, but it also looks cool. I also like the Cobra Transformer and Gundam, they'll be going on my computer desk to fiddle with.

I couldn't do anything this good for my giftee, but next year I think I'll try and go all-out like my Santa. I'm so grateful, thank you again!

>>
Mateo in Florida, your gift should hopefully be shipping out tomorrow.
>>
>>6078370
Because every year it's true
>>
>>6078381
At this point I don't care either way, the fact Grinching still happens when this is /toy/s 7th year of doing it is fucking pathetic. /co/ did a fantastic approach to it this year, /a/ was great as usual, for fuck sakes, /b/ fucking /b/ had a more organized SS then /toy/.
>>
>>6078387
/a/ uses the same format doesn't it? What's different here?
>>
>>6078390
The only difference is the inclusion of spending tiers and grinches from previous years being blacklisted on account of the same people arranging it every time.

And /co/'s is just people being nice and buying random items posted on Amazon wishlists. It's less a traditional Secret Santa and more just good will..
>>
>>6078394
I've wanted to do a secret santa on here like /co/'s but the idea is always shot down because Amazon doesn't have all the shit they want.
>>
>>6078398
I'm involved in all three boards's festivities and I honestly like the way that /a/ does it better. When the people involved aren't total shits, it's a lot more fun.
>>
>>6078390
The user base makes things very different here. /a/ takes the Santa part seriously and checks shit and makes sure it goes right rather than /toy/ that runs on the honor system and little else.
>>
>>6078390
Different anon but /a/'s secret Santa event has been run by the same people at least for the last 5 years. That level of experience really helps combat a lot of issues that can come from this. They also have some set rules when new people/emails are added such as limits and what not to discourage scamming of fellow anons. The biggest flaw with /toy/ is everyyear is bascialy a new one for everyone involved and it leads to much easier manipulation and mishaps. Also I'm sorry, but /toy/ is full of a lot of good interest, terrible follow though people. At least three years of Secret Sandra the organizer either vanishes or passes the buck and that leads to a mess of mystery where we never will know how good or bad those years went becuase those organizers where either scamming or more likely thought it be fun and didn't have the maturity to stay to the obligation even when it got hard.
>>
>>6078398
And I want to say "fuck them" because that is selfish as fuck and makes me think they are the grinches.
It's suppose to be holiday of cheer and giving not entitled brat mode.
>>
>>6078401
toy is a bunch of autists and late blooming retards, you shouldn't expect any maturity here.
>>
>>6078406
Aren't you the selfish one here?
>>
>>6078401
In a way I blame whimpy santas not holding up their promises or not giving info on faggots who really do screw people over.
>>
>>6078409
If we are going to split hairs we should be caring about the board as a whole and make sure scamming is nonexistent. That no poor soul gifts and then gets bummed out that they were taken advantage of where it be grinching or getting a pile of used junk. /co/ system this year would have been a great because we decide what to give and pass it along, no one gets screwed and there can be ways to check off who got something and who didn't further reducing grintiching. Amazon has next to nothing I want but I rather bite that bullet and make this a better SS and closer to the fun and good times the others are. /toy/ is always nothing but drama
>>
>>6078416
If you like /co/'s system so much then why not just try and run it yourself next year?

There's no reason why the two can't run alongside one another, you know.
>>
>>6078412
I agree 100% that is the heart of why /toy/'s is so bad compared to the others. It's a lot of work I understand but it still bothers me how needy /toy/ seems about Secret Santa, starting as early as October some years trying to get it organized but having no one willing to shoulder the work load in a good manner of that needy bunch.
>>
>>6078421
Yeah that went to hell when /toy/ tried that stunt in 08. Lot of in fighting and shitposting over who's was the best and complaining that we shouldn't need two. This place has a lot brain problems anon.
>>
>>6078416
/co/ gets issues with people putting up multiple wishlists. If you're searching for a system that works you're not going to find it, they all depend on people being honest.
>>
>>6078431
Then clearly the problem isn't with the system but rather the people participating.
>>
>>6078431
>/co/ gets issues with people putting up multiple wishlists
Your post shows that they catch it. The organizers deal with it and eliminate it when they can. /toy/'s SS are basically "shut up. it's not as bad as you hear."

>If you're searching for a system that works you're not going to find it
lot of place have and as you said and that other anon those running it and organizing are the difference between a good year that lives for the spirit of the season and a pseudo beg thread with scammers.
>>
>>6078439
No, they don't catch it. They get suspicious but there's ultimately no way they can prove it happens, and it's piss easy to do.
>>
>>6078421
I love to run it but I already manage two each year so time isn't there and bluntly I don't like /toy/'s community. I come here because time to time I find good people and threads but as a whole it's just a bad community.
>>
>>6078444
Yeah, I know how you feel. I was actually considering running it myself this year but all the shittiness killed my drive to do so.

I mean, comparing this thread with the one on /a/ is just depressing.
>>
Seeing that /a/ has practically the same system, what is it that makes it so much better than ours? Is it just having the same organizers over and over and actually blacklisting/whitelisting people? [toyspoiler]Will it go to hell too because one of the two organizers will step down next year?[/toyspoiler]
>>
>>6078441
>They get suspicious
how?
>>
>>6078441
Actually the coordinator has caught it and has a "naughty" list that prohibits them from participating and he doesn't include their lists.
>>
>>6078448
A combination of the same people running it each year and the people participating in it genuinely wanting a good time for everyone.

These things fail when everyone is assholes.
>>
>>6078449
Dude people get accused of it if there are two wishlist addresses in the same city or if there's some overlap between wishlist items.
>>
>>6078444
>>6078447
It's something about the majority of people that collect toys. I go to all kinds of conventions and shops and the more toy oriented buyers usually have a sour mood that could be compared to the Gunshow's Anime Club and Endsville where basically they just want to hate on others and cause issues. It's frightening how much of that I see on /toy/ considering how diverse the community is here.

>>6078448
A lot of it is /toy/ is idea guys that don't follow through where /a/ has a sense of obligation as a whole. /a/ looks at their community and want to keep it good and to have pride in it's operations, there are a lot of people that put their hands in making sure it's a good event, same with /co/ and a few others. /toy/ sadly seems more incline to just wanting a place where they can be gifted toys and what not. The staggering amount of used toys that get shuffled around is a sign of how many here are basically wanting people to play mom and buy them a new shiny rather then actually care about the people they are gifting. Pulling that kind of shit on /a/ would get you lynched, you are expected to honor the rules..
>>
>>6078401
>tfw 3 years being grinched by /a/
make it 4 if I don't get anything this year. Santa Loli and Santa Faggot didn't even respond to my emails those years.

meanwhile, /toy/ hasn't let me down in the 2 years I've participated

So again it fixes itself, you just don't gift them. That's the magic of /co/ system you the Santa decide what risks you take rather then get screwed over by bad luck and an a inept organizer.
>>
>>6078468

Why don't you prove that by telling me how things were handled there?
>>
>>6078469

You don't understand how /co/'s work do you.
>>
>>6078490
Why would anyone who grinches in a /toy/ format be any more inclined to not grinch in a /co/ format? They'll put up their wishlist and then never touch the threads ever again, which is EXACTLY what they already do.

Again, the format is completely irrelevant. The only thing that makes it work or not work are the people participating in it.
>>
>>6078501
Technically you can't Grinch in /co/s format. Basically you the buyer pick who to gift rather then being told who to gift. Yes there are abusers but a lot of /co/s gifters gift people who gifted them. That's what I did. That's what a lot did. I even gifted a second guy, he might never gift anyone but in /co/s system that's not hurting anybody.

>The only thing that makes it work or not work are the people participating in it.
And the organizers have the most impact of that. Which is why /toy/s is such shit while others don't even have a quarter of the same drama with triple the participants That said I won't argue with the point that /toy/ is full of shitty people compared to the other boards.
>>
>>6078515
>you're supposed to gift people when you get gifted

Gee, so it's "enforced" with exactly the same honor system as here. /co/s organizers have exactly the same amount of power as they do here (virtually none), the only difference is only that /toy/ is populated with worse people.
>>
>>6078540
>Gee, so it's "enforced" with exactly the same honor system as here.

>All assignments have been sent out!
Come on anon use your head, even if this is shitposting you can do better then that.
> the only difference is only that /toy/ is populated with worse people.
On that we agree.
>>
>>6078546
There's nothing compelling anyone in /toy/s SS to actually send out a gift, regardless if you get gifted yourself.
There's nothing compelling anyone in /co/s SS to actually send out a gift, regardless if you get gifted yourself.

It's the same shit.
>>
>>6078561
It's not. You want it to be for whatever reason but one system isn't asking you to do anything where the other is giving you someone to shop for and they are to do the same.
I have no idea why you need to think it's all the same short of wanting (You)s
>>
Hey Stephen

Your gift will be coming directly from Amazon. I'm sorry I couldn't take the time to wrap it and everything but I wanted to make sure that it would get to you in time for Christmas.
>>
>>6078579
whether or not the system asks you to pitch in is irrelevant if there's nothing whatsoever enforcing that request - which there objectively is not in either format. If anything that makes the /co/ format worse if there isn't even the suggestion that you ought to be fair. You'd wind up, at best, with a small handful of gullible suckers doing all the wishlist gifting for a bunch of leeches who have no intention of ever giving back. More likely you'd end up with the same kind of dead threads the current format has with nobody being stupid enough to want to gift anything to anyone.

The only way to make either format work here would be to use enforcement measures that would break the global rules.
>>
>>6078585
No problem, man. The thought is what counts.
>>
>>6078587
Actaully /a/ gets around that
Actaully they all do
You act like anyone follows 4chans rules to any extreme
>>
>>6078585
>orders it off Amazon
>can't gift wrap it
Is this some level of new shitposting?
>>
>>6078606
Don't you have anything better to do with your life than bitching and moaning about things that don't concern you at all?
>>
>>6078613
By that logic why are you here?
>>
>>6078613
Amazon is running free gift wrap now. If anon bought it from there he know that and could have gotten it wrap. Hence my weird question because it's almost like anons are making shit up. I mean I figure that since it's strange as fuck on such a slow board the anon he is gifting replies only moments after the post.
>>
>>6078621
That and Stephen is somewhat common. Which Stephen is the message to? How would Stephen know it was him? I swear this board makes /b/ and /r9k/ seems smart.
>>
>>6078621
>I mean I figure that since it's strange as fuck on such a slow board the anon he is gifting replies only moments after the post.
Some of us have nothing better to do on a Sunday night than mess around on the interwebs, broseph.
>>
>>6078621
There's no free gift wrap though?

>>6078628
There are only like 20 anon's participating this year.
>>
>>6078631
>There are only like 20 anon's participating this year.
and three of them might be getting grinched?
That is fucking sad.
>>
>>6078631
I thought there was but still why not pay for the gift wrap, you claimed to be sad you didn't wrap it so why not use a service offered?
>>
>>6078631
Holy shit really? Wasn't the number closer to 60 last year? I know the early years it was getting closer to /co/s numbers but I guess shit got so bad everyone pack up and left. That's what I did at least.
>>
>>6078642
>Wasn't the number closer to 60 last year?

>>6048126
>We had almost 100 people sign up, and only 5 people didn't receive gifts.
>>
>>6078361
I have participated in /toy/ SS for 3 years now and the past 2 years were great. I really don't care if I don't get anything I have other presents that is getting.
>>
>>6078645
I feel like those numbers are a lie based on the amount of people who were complaining.
>>
>>6078645
Dude >>6048126 is lying. For what reason I can't tell you but we haven't had close to a hundred since 2012.
>>
>>6048126
>but I made it very clear from the beginning that you should only participate out of a spirit of giving, not receiving.
See this is why I don't understand why we don't just pull a /co/ Amazon isn't perfect but that makes it 100% this with 0 drama. You can't bitch about grinching if it can't actually happen.
>>
>>6078651
He's trying to make himself feel better after everyone bashing him about how he ran things.
>>
>>6078631
But there is Gift wrap options.

>>

I mean no offense but if you're going to pay someone to gift wrap things theres really no point to it anyway because its just as lazy with no thought.
>>
Out of curiosity, since i know secret santa on here is absolute trash now and I've avoided it for a few years now even though I wanted to enter at least once-

-Where the hell did people like caboose go, or the rider guy who was doing all the giveaways of MP shit and stuff? Are giveaways still a thing here anyway? I'm on every day and the last one I can remember is the one for the revoltech venom snake.
>>
>>6078677
Who cares dude. You got the guy a gift, that's all that matters. No need to reply to these autists that need their boxes rapped in shiny paper that you'll throw away within ten seconds.
>>
I can see from this thread that most of you are insufferable assholes who deserve to get grinched and I can't wait to see it happen.
>>
>>6078684
How do you know it's the same anon? He never said he was the same anon.

Believe that it is just shit posting. The system works and for some reason there are people every year determined to try and scare people away because they hate seeing nice things.
