Challenges:
>Make a scene showing your sigfig enjoying Thanksgiving with family (or at least trying to).
>With the release of the Beatles Ideas set, make your own music-based build!
>Trigger the purists with your beautiful compatible building blocks
>Build a themed display stand for your minifigs!
>Make an advent calendar for whenever Christmas rolls around.
>Make some delicious plastic thanksgiving food.
>Depict life in Burgerland after the apocalypse (i.e. right now)

The tracks on the BWE feel unfinished, what with the axles sticking out and that big plate looking like an afterthought. Also I really can't get over how the set is just a tad under minifig scale. It's a serious missed opportunity.

>Looks like she has a single long arm, that runs through her torso and is probably some sort of soft rubber, with harder plastic at the ends, to not only accommodate regular minifig hands, but to also stop the arm from just sliding all the way through and coming out.

That was my first thought as well, but TLG hasn't made torsos that you can fit a bar through in 30 years - did they really mold a new style of torso for that set?

Semi-unrelated, but if someone has the Ultimate Axl, I'd like to see what his torso looks like from a few angles.

How do you people feel about these sets?

Are they modulars for poor people?
>>
>>6031729
pretty much, but im always a sucker for sets that come with multiple builds out of the box. be it mixels, (rip in peace) creator, or even dimensions, i feel like alt build sets are both more bang for your buck, and "inspire" alt uses and creativity, seeing as you need to use the same parts, to make different things

though like you said, those specific ones are nice cheaper "modulars"

>>
>>6031729
I think of them more as "gateway" modulars for the casual/new builder. They're more in line with the other Creator sets in that they're meant to be a way to demonstrate building techniques that hobbyists can use in their own creations. The expert level Creator sets are sort of like Lego's designer showcase: a place that allows their designers cut loose a little and make something they really want.
>>
>>6031755
Not a single set, but I always loved the universal sets that came out each year. I really haven't found technic interesting since they switched from bricks to beams. The sets now remind me of work instead of feeling like playing.

Because I'm a dingus and missed out on the discussion last thread:

The Duel on Naboo set looks like it'll be a $25 set like Carbon Freezing Chamber or Hoth Attack. It would be great if it were a 900-piece diorama like the Death Star Final Duel, but Lego likes to put more than 3 minifigs in a $90 set, and there's really no other good minifigs to put in the duel scene.

>>
>>6031729
I have the bike shop/cafe set on top, and I really dig it for a simple expansive setup. I like the small stuff, like the ATM and the different ways for figs to access the different floors. I honestly don't think I'll rebuild it into other setups...
>>
>>6031989
>>6031992
Also, being serious here, if anyone wants me to do a quick writeup review of these two sets (like I did for the Monster Fighters Mansion from LEPIN), I will.

I know me and /lg/ sometimes get off on the wrong footing, but I do really care and want to give serious reviews of these things for people who might be on the fence about buying them, especially for chinese sets that lego themselves dont produce.

After christmas I should have access to two more of the knockoff modulars, the knockoff avengers laboratory, the queen annes revenge and the imperial flagship, so expect writeups for those shortly after the holidays.

Your collection is dope, though. I know thats an older pic because ive seen it posted before, cant wait to see the full setup!

Old speeder of mine,
>>
>>6032142
Firestar Toys candy skull.

Third party but printed on real lego part. Good quality for sure, no randomness like some chinese stuff can be (and im a big supporter of knockoffs and ill even admit the third party have the better printing options.)
>>
>>6032141
Could be a knockoff too.

Theres a LOT of alt-colored parts you can get from china or even third party, I figure a lot of that stuff slips through the cracks of bricklink all the time (I mean, come on, when you see a seller from HONG KONG selling 3000 Aayla Secura head pieces, you know somethings going on.) and most people dont report it because hey, they ordered a part and got it as advertised, so yeah.

Like I said a thread or two ago. Whomever makes a "bricklink for knockoff parts" will be a millionaire in a few months. So many good unique pieces or recolors of existing pieces.....shit, the two new hulkbusters I got have recolored parts that are spot on and match with actual lego colors and their grip is just right. No stress to existing official parts.

I still don't know how to feel about these. I want at least Harley and Barb, couple of Batmen and maybe some villains, but overall it just doesn't appeal to me that much.

Then again, I'm not too much of a DC guy so most of these mean nothing to me

>Red Hood uses the Mr. Freeze armor piece
What's wrong with this? The piece allows a fig to wear the classic dome, while the underlying form-fitting mask means that you can also do it that way. Two options for your Red Hood.
>>

I'll tell you what I've seen and heard. Keep in mind you may want to check to see if these are real and/or correct before you commit to them.

Walmart will have the 10697 XXXL Box for $30. That's 1,500 parts in terrible and mismatched colors. Not bad if you just need bricks and stuff. They will also have dimensions team and level packs for $14.

Target has a free reindeer polybag if you spend more than $25 on lego this week. All LEGO Dimensions Team, Level and Story packs on sale for $10. They also have several sets 40% off (Minecraft Crafting Box, City Training Jet Transporter, Creator Changing Seasons, Super Heroes Gorilla Grodd Goes Bananas, Friends Livi’s Pop Star House)

Toy R Us has select sets 30% off. Maybe more?

CVS has buy one, get one free on select toys. No idea if Lego is part of that. Maybe they have Mixels on sale?

Barnes and Nobel have "Educational Toys and Games
Buy 1, Get 1 50% Off List Price".

Lego.com says "sale on select items" and they are offering free shipping. And don't forget the snowglobe if you spend more than $99.

Go for it. It's a fun, challenging build that took me nearly 20 hours. Just make sure you have room to build and store it, the excavator is an absolutely enormous set.
I'm thinking about getting a second one to build the B model, which is apparently one of the best feats of technic engineering ever.
>>
>>6032873
whoa, you're right

Though I'm not sure they were ever original.
>>
Why are lego so expensive compared to how small the sets are? For example, on a lot of buildings, you just get the front.
You can get much bigger toys for a lot cheaper.
They can't just be turbojews, there must be a reason.

I've been thinking, is it because of the bricks themselves? Like, they can't make a big mold, everything has to be made separately and fit together properly and be painted and shit. Also, they can't just make it hollow inside so I guess that's also a reason.

That was me posting about the blood on muh Legoes. There's a totally ghetto toy store a couple hours south of me that I go to sometimes (it's only half as far away as the genuine Lego store). Their basement is full of small containers of sorted pieces, but they don't ever wash the parts they take in, so you find all kinds of dried food, hair, etc. stuck to them. On the plus side, a lot of parts are cheaper than their cracklink prices, and there's no shipping, waiting, or minimum purchase. They also give me coupon tickets that I can redeem the next time I come by, so every $10 I spend on one trip is a buck off the next time. I wash all the stuff I buy secondhand anyway, so it doesn't really matter to me either way. Still a fun story to gross out my friend who flips sets and doesn't MOC.

What do you think? Anyway, it looks like Joker is putting together a team of Batman's most obscure enemies from one of the trailer shots.

>>6033502
If I had to put money on it, I'd say that Batman catches all the big name villains except the Joker. He gets away on the balloon chair from that set. He then has to gather up obscure and rejected Batman enemies to help him defeat Batman (or free the big budget bad guys).

How do we convince LEGO to re-release old sets again?
>>
>>6033537
Only if they pick sets that didn't have raised baseplates and if they get some sort of artistic freedom to change things up to atleast suplement parts and colours they phased out years ago for a plethora of reasons.
Demand will be the biggest factor though.
Most turbospergs (myself included) will still prefer the original phased out parts of the originals. So whilst they are already a small minority, the diehard afols will probably want the originals. While there are exceptions of sets with very rare parts that are now expensive on the aftermarket (often the aforementioned raised baseplates, parts that put usefulness above structural integrity and weird colours) most old sets are relatively cheap to bricklink since they consisted for largest part of very basic and common parts.

>>
>>6033537
The best bet would be to collaborate with a large Lego community to slightly update a classic theme (like the suggested Adventures line) and submit it to Ideas. If the sets were basically the same, most people wouldn't mind. Or maybe they would. But as long as it got the votes, Lego would have to comment on the submission. How would Lego react to a classic IP getting 10k votes?

I think I understand why they put this jokester in the wave now. They wanted to give people an easy way to gather asylum outfits so Batman can capture the obscure villains, but they didn't want to prevent a D-lister from wearing their iconic costume.

Since Joker is a must in this series, they decided to just make him the one with the Arkham wear. This way they kill two birds with one stone without compromising another spot for an additional Joker minifig.

How do you feel about the minecraft sets?

I think the big ones feel empty and extremely overpriced, even for lego.
However the small sets are quite good. Got two of the cheap dungeon-cave ones and combined them. I don't really like minecraft as a game but I like the way it looks and I think it translates well to lego.

I think they're good landscape sets; a nice contrast to the licensed theme trend of vehicle builds. The buildings they come up with always look fun to mess with and are as cozy as some of the Creator houses.

I think the choice of keeping the pixel texture to an extreme minimum is great for non-Minecraft fans to allow integration with the rest of their collection, while it's also good for Minecraft fans because they only need to buy Classic boxes to make bigger worlds.
>>
>>6034072
The Crafting Box set at least make sense, because it's not the predefined biome/area from the game, like The Nether or Dungeon, but it's just a set of pieces that you can build stuff with.

Other than that, sets looks okay as a Lego renditions of Minecraft, but bland, because they're made from mostly plain bricks and plates.

Anyone know where I can find one of these, unused, for a reasonable price? I don't care about the box being sealed or not, I just care about the parts still in their baggies and the stickers unharmed. I've wanted this ever since it came out, but my family was extremely poor and couldn't afford it, and by the time I moved out and was making decent pay, it wasn't available anymore, and it now costs over $250, not even including shipping. I don't understand the audacity of people selling a $40 set for over $200, AND making me pay an absurd price for shipping as well. 7894 is also on my wish list.

If I had of bought them from Big W outside of the sale, I would have payed AU$1097.00 and if I had of bought it from Lego Online, I would have payed AU$1194.87.
I think I did alright.

Hey PB, I made this for you just now. I shot the same image using different light detection settings on my camera, and this is the result. The baseplates are white, but because the walls of the room I shoot in are cream-colored and the lightbulbs I use are standard yellow house lights, the bounce light that hits the pieces is not pure white. As you can see, most of the detection settings make the whites look yellowed, but "Tungsten" gets bold, optimal colors for the backdrop, the minifigs, and the baseplates. (The photograph is a lot more vivid and white than how the actual set looks to me in real life).

You might be able to use your camera settings in place of buying expensive bulbs, depending on whether or not you're using a fully-enclosed white-walled lightbox, or you're just shooting in the open like me.

Your best option is probably to just try them all out with different colors of pieces and see what the result is. I'd guess the warm white is a little yellow, and the cool white is similar to the output from a fluorescent light, but I'm just guessing.

You can really make use of light as a visual cue if you know what your options are.

Ignore the price, I just grabbed the first link I found, also, sorry for the horrendous link. Like I said, I ordered the set with Spiderman UK in it which has much nicer figures, the spider gwen in this one is horrific compared to the real 3rd party print or the tits mcgee POGO print. Pic related. 3rd party on right, POGO brand on left.

If nothing else the Doctor Who set has some really nice minifigs and makes for a cool display piece. Combine it with the Dimensions sets and it gets even better.
>>
>>6035412
Yes, you can make a 'wanted list' with a selection of parts in specific colours (even the minimal amount and if you want it new or used)
You can then then search by store for those pieces (now called 'buy wanted lists'?) and see how many of the different parts you want they have (not to be confused by the amount of parts they have in your wanted list that could just be 1 type they have a huge amount from)
The layout is now a bit different from the last time i used it, but i'm sure you can find tutorials on the web somewhere that can help you out with the terms i gave you.
