Challenges:
>Make a scene showing your sigfig enjoying Thanksgiving with family (or at least trying to).
>With the release of the Beatles Ideas set, make your own music-based build!
>Trigger the purists with your beautiful compatible building blocks
>Build a themed display stand for your minifigs!
>Make an advent calendar for whenever Christmas rolls around.
>Make some delicious plastic thanksgiving food.
>Depict life in Burgerland after the apocalypse (i.e. right now)
>Lepin is making rejected lego ideas modular sets that Lego will literally never build but now own the exclusive rights to
Is Lepin, dare I say it, our guy?

Anybody have any good ideas on how to make a backpack like this?

Is there a Technic pin with tow ball/ Mixel joint end yet, or is the sturdiness of the Technic pin not up to snuff yet

Yeah, a piece that's black pin on one side and towball on the other has been out for a while.

I could go with this hair and armor combo, but I think the white bobcut and black winged-motif armor are really gonna make it look like the iconic SoB

Look in the board games bin. They sometimes have boxed lego stuff there. You can also use goodwill's website.

If they haven't invoiced you yet, you can fill up another basket and it'll get added to the previous order as a second batch.
Additional batches are still subject to stuff like minimum buy though.

I feel like chocolate coated maps aren't a play scenario most people would need, but I will allow it.

I know there's already a yellow symbiote, but this Ultimate Flama makes a damn good symbiote look-alike if you add some legs. Plus I have a shortage of Spider-Man villains.

Same anon here as above post, I have a question for the bootleg anons.
I usually don't cross over into the bootleg territory, but I'd be willing to do it this one time.
Where can I buy a bigfig venom such as pic related? What brand is best?
Won these two in a raffle today at a Christmas bazaar, unopened. It's like a time capsule!

>>6029191
They both go for upwards of $30 Canadian. And only one of them seems to be for sale by any Canadian bricklink stores. Thing is though I don't know if anyone would ever buy them.
>>6029148
Aliexpress or Ebay. You just posted it, Decool bigfig Venom.
>>6029124
so thats it? no percent off on anything?
>>6029239
Not sure of the name, honestly, but I don't think it's a franchise or anything. Just a little store near where I live.
I think they also had pic related, but I wasn't really feeling it like the other one.
>>6029239
Went to some church bazaars today and one of them had those sets as one lot for a raffle and two newer sets (a little creator one and a tiny construction vehicle) in another lot. Bought in and put tickets down for both lots, but I put more tickets in for the old stuff. Really happy with how it turned out :)
Anyone else have a problem with buying used bricks? I hate it when I find something at a garage sale and find little kids' bite marks or melted candy while sorting. Not to mention the one weird-smelling MB Halo set that ends up in every lot.
I'm cheap, so I put up with it. Someday, I hope I'm well enough off to buy old sets NISB and open them. I've dreamed of putting together some Blacktron stuff from untouched bricks.
>>6029293
It's nothing unusual. I avoid used bricks myself. You never know where they've been or what's been done to them and Lego pieces are something very hands-on, so I don't want to be messing around something like that spear anon.
>>6029315
I found an ancient raisin jammed up a brick and just threw it out. Found uncommon minifigs covered in sharpie or glitter glue.
The worst is the black chrome Vader helmet I have that is covered in dog bites. I saw that in a box and nearly cried. Never found the rest of the body, so not as big of a deal.
I can't figure out a clean retractable landing gear, otherwise thee exterior of my vip service plane
>>6029187
Different anon. I actually fell for the allure of knockoff minifigs when everyone was doing all the Iron Man 3 suits. I ended up getting at least twelve of the guys, I didn't think I could stop.
Then I realized that I wasn't actually doing anything with them, and my brick-based autism couldn't let me put them near the legit shit anyway. I sold them all as a set for much less than I got them for in the first place. Oh well.
>>6029293
Bought some bricks from my one of my neighbors that were sitting out in plastic bags all day in 80-90 degree weather.

>Turned it down because it was hot as fuck in Louisiana, instead I continued the practice of begging mummy for Lego money
>Now am 18
>Work for $7.25/hr in Louisiana
>Still spend most of it on Lego because I have no responsibilities, but I am now thinking about all that I could have if I would've worked 8 years ago
>>6029293
I just bought a lot this week, and it wasn't too awful. Still chucked the whole lot in the wash. Everything came out fine, save for one piece that got bent and the obvious teeth marks on some pieces.
Thinking of putting the stuff I'm not interested in keeping on bricklink with a bunch of duplicate CMFs.
>>6029293
The question is, how to perfectly clean all LEGO elements ever, in batches, in methods that restore them to factory–new condition? In a manner that's not destructive at all in a way that could harm connectivity, such as how laboratory glass is cleaned in acid to dissolve the actual outer molecular layers of glass as part of the process. That might affect fit. But what else? Sonication?
>>>6029383 how to perfectly clean all LEGO elements ever, in batches, in methods that restore them to factory–new condition? >>>6029326 nearly cried.
Is this autism or OCD?
Easiest way to thoroughly clean something is just stick them into a giant tub full of dish detergent and scrub them down with a brush.
Make sure to sort through them first, because as others have mentioned, lotta weird gross shit is found with them.
Some people just stick them into the washing machine, but if you use warm water, which you should, i can see them denting each other.
>>6029409
> Is this autism or OCD?
It's relatable when talking about a chrome darth vader
Just saw the Thrawn figure coming in the new ghost. I have never been so exited by the prospect of a figure and then so completely let down before.

personally i'm thankful they finally covered one of the coolest final fights of the movies
just wish it wasn't so small
they could have had an intersecting lower platform, with catapult mechanics for force jumping and at least one giant pink vertical energy beam

>>6029562
Pretty sure the general consensus is that the set looks unfinished. I have to agree. At the very least they could have extended the laser hallway and have the back portion include a fucking wall. At least a wall in the background would make it look finished. I'd imagine the laser gimmick itself is to blame, for which I'm disappointed, same as any other time they sacrifice cleanliness for a play feature
>No LEGO Technic
Another shit thread.
>>6029562
I'm fine with the size it's at; licensed sets come with the expectation of minifigs, and for a scene that only includes three guys, I don't think a lot of people are gonna go for a bigger version of the Duel of the Fates.
The singular semicircle really gives that unfinished vibe though. Maybe two would have made it alright. The laser wall gimmick is neat.

>look at all these cool technic things!
>all good looking ones use a ton system
I personally prefer system builds because i can build at a lot smaller scale and still make stuff look good and fun to play with and get a lot more moccing bang for my buck. I like to build in minifig scale because i already have a lot of it and can use them side-by-side. I personally think technic beams looks like crap, but if you go modelteam style that is alright to me.

>>6030246
Alright, here we go. This is what my Legoverse looks like from outside time and space. I shoot really high skies, wide vistas, and other angles that make using a real lightbox impractical, so I turned my room into one. Those two pole lights each have three bulbs on them, regular CFL bulbs on the top two spots and UV blacklight CFL bulbs on the bottom ones. I got the lights at Walmart for $20 each. If you can't get your hands on stand-up lights, the main thing to making your pictures look good is understanding bounce lighting.
TO BE CONTINUED in next post
Here's the way the lights are positioned when I'm shooting something. Those paper circles attached to the lights are homemade baffles. They block the light from shining through from the lampshades, and are extremely important since I couldn't find more appropriate lights that already had opaque black shades. The point is, you need to make sure that you can control the direction that light is being emitted from, as I will elaborate on in the next post.
>>6030279
Target was having all Lego 20% off yesterday. I don't know how long that will last though.
>>6030289
In this picture, the red arrows are the hard, direct light that's going directly out of the lightbulbs. Thanks to the positions of the lights and the baffles, most of the direct light is aimed away from the table. It hits the walls, the ceiling, and all the other crap in the room and turns into a softer, more ambient light, represented here by all the yellow dicks aimed down at the table.
>>6030292
In this comparison you can see the difference between aiming a light source directly at the set (top) or using bounce light (bottom). With a direct light source, you get a lot more reflections off the surface of the pieces, and it looks more like a toy. Creating ambient light makes it seem more "real" and immersive.
>>6030294
This is especially noticeable on minifigs, when a direct light can cause vertical bands of white light across the face that blots out the printing.
Here's the same shot with and without direct light.
>>6030279
its whatever they have. mine has all of last years for 3 bucks each
>>6030298
However, direct light can be used when you want to simulate the sun at a very low angle, as long as you have enough bounce light coming in from elsewhere.
Happy to take questions and I hope that helps!
>>6030302

>>6030347
I do. I still have three of the minifigs, or at least most of them, including the anime hair. Can't find the rest of the actual sets' parts though and I know a bunch of them were lost/ruined/etc from parental neglect during house 'cleaning.'
That fucking instruction though holy shit, was that a real thing?
>>6030347
I regret not getting more of them, I only had one of the tiny sets.
The animu styled minifigs were weird looking though.
>>6030349
Yep, Mountain Warrior combiner set. My dumb ass actually did it as a kid even though I realized it'd be impossible to separate. I did it specifically to see if I could get it apart without breaking it.
Somewhere, in some kid's bionicle bin that inherited mine after i had to give it away during a move, is that exact piece combination, still stuck to this day

After the fall and rebuilding of man's civilization, it's held up as a philosophical example of the hubris of the Great Ones.

Found 'em, can't believe they're still together after all these years. I think this is the earlier versions instead of the second-year versions? I've got the guy with black spiky hair too except I can only find his hair.
Don't remember what sets I had; think it was the big white mech with the light brick (which I still have as well and which also still works- with the original battery!) and the quad-treaded tank with the disc shooter, parts of which I found in the yard years ago along with some stuff like neon green radar dishes.
Thank God I know Bricklink exists now to replace that stuff.

The angry faces look like hot garbage but the normal faces are fine, I feel.
They look better than some of Lego's own faces from their 'transitional' years.
Helloooo
This 1x2 brick with arm holes comes in blue, and I've got one on order
Or maybe he's a tiny little spess muhreen
>>6030300
Cool. Thanks for that, I've never been able to photograph my /tg/ minis well with homemade light boxes so I'll try your setup.
>>6030330
Any idea what polybag? I can't seem to find anything about it.
I guess he needs bigger pauldrons if he's going to fight Lego heresy

Have you seen my minifig photography guide? It's made by someone who doesn't really know how to camera, but it might help you out.

The regular Lego aisle said "a free set" and the pink aisle said it was a Disney set, so I assume you have your choice of either a City or the Disney. No idea which ones, sorry.
>>6029955
THAT'S what that was supposed to be?
>>6030394

It's cool. I assume it isn't anything special, or there would be more buzz around it. Maybe i'll phone the stores tomorrow and see if I can't get any info.

I'm really glad they made her suit gender-neutral. Definitely the way to go for coats and thick clothing, particularly if it's for a new nonexistent faction like Antarctic Explorers.
On an unrelated note, any of you remember that game on Lego's site where you explored levels with various Creator models? You had to collect some bricks to use new ones and I believe the original version of this was one of the enemies.
>>6030381
Oh shit, which set is that from? What was it used for?

Well, here's the guide I made for shooting minifigs. It may or may not be helpful depending on what your camera can do.
(1 of 3)
>>6030463
>mostly construction vehicles
Huh. So the minifig arm connection is just coincidence?
>>6030470
Woah, this one's new. You've really been expanding your line of minifig guides and self-help products, LQ.
>>6030469
Yeah, somebody in the Lego General showed me how to do it. The connection is really snug, but not so much that anything's being stressed. It holds a lot of weight and is about as tight as a new shoulder joint. The only downsides are the visible gaps at the tops of the holes, and that the arms sometimes come out because only friction, not actual clutch, is holding them in.
This is the camera I use, currently selling on Amazon for $24.99.

>>6030481
SD card reader, probably?
>>6030481
It's called a USB line ... I'll show you later
>>6030481
I use the cable that came with my store-bought camera, but it takes an SD card so you could just slot it every time
Here's Baby Marine holding up two minifigs in his hand to prove the snugness of the connection

>>6030524
>>6030524
>>6030524
This thing really solidified my love for the brick. I've had it longer than I can remember, and the desk case is still with me today.
>>6030542
Honestly, I'm not sure. I really like Freeze. I was hoping to like the mech build more. I think it is using the same base as the 2017 Nexo suits. I don't usually like fleshies, so Batman and the guard are kinda meh to me. I don't think I had any sand green bricks, so now i have a handful of those. The stickers aren't offensively setting specific, so that thats a good thing. New utility belt is a fun idea. Big ugly ice cubes are fun. I hope to think of something cool to use them for. Oh, the tubes! I like those. Again, not sure what I'd use them on. If you're interested in more pictures, let me know.
>>6030576
Do you have the earlier Keaton/TLM Batman to compare him to? I'm interested in seeing how they adjusted the torso print after removing the belt.
Also, Freeze mech closeups please. You say his seat is the new piece for the Nexo Battle Suits?
>>6030524
Probably either this...
iv recently moved to a place where a lego store is obscenely close to me (less than 10 minutes)
compared to where i previously lived and never went (three hours)
few simple questions that i feel like are obvious answers i just dont know
1. how often does the pick a brick wall (and its figure) change
2. how often do they dump new kinds of parts in build a fig
3. are the pick a brick walls actual "sets" and do they have number codes/online instructions
number three is the most important, because i may have shoved 100 baby brickbuilt penguins into a tub, and forgot what their mother looked like/how to build her
>>6030524
>>6030589
Or this
I got a lot of milage out of both really and still have most of the pieces to both sets despite 2 brothers
>>6030585
I have the BvS armor bats, the super old killer Croc hovercraft Batman, and the one from the Gorilla Grodd goes banana set. Here I have removed the armor and belt.
>>6030585
>>6030601
In this image, I have added the belts to printed belt batmen. it looks better than I would have thought.
>>6030603
Looks like a cheap keaton batmobile without the belt part.
>>6030585
Here is a picture with Victor inside the "Exosuit". Notice at this angle you can't see the third towball on the hip and the arms don't have an obvious attachment point at the shoulder.
>>6030605
This is the rear of the mech without the folding bit. The shoulder towballs are molded onto the 'frame' and it has a technic pin hole on the bottom. I also tried to include nice poses for the hands so that you can get a look at their details.
>>6030604
Batman* not batmobile.
>>6030609
Looks like it's using the same frame piece as some of the Nexo Knight stuff next year.
Just as a final thought on The Lego Movie styled batman, I included a picture without the masks. I like how the eyes are on a black band for TLBM figure. The eyes look like eyebrows almost.
>>6030604
>>6030611
If someone wanted to commit heresy, they could make a really buff shadow by removing the bat logo.
>>6030616
I agree. It looks like a useful piece. Lots of connections.
>>6030590
>1.
I've been told several different stories depending on who I talk to. Most agree that the parts in each bin are basically random. Most will say something along the lines that the bin is refilled with the same part until they run low then they pick something new. That means if they have 40 cases of white picket fence, it will be on the wall for a long time.
>2.
No idea. It seems really random to me. Again, maybe when parts run low?

Does Ms Muzzie not come with normal arms AT ALL? And which Iron Man is that supposed to be? Is Falcon Iron Man in the new comics or something?
>>6030624
Ms. Marvel doesn't come with normal arms probably because swapping out limbs is technically illegal, unless there's a whole spare torso they're not showing. That's the Super-Adaptoid, a robot that can mimic super-abilities.
neat set but the power functions look disappointing
>>6030646
I guess there's only so much you can do with power functions on an jet model.
I actually can't think of anything other than landing gear and wing flaps. Maybe opening/closing the cockpit.
>>6030646
i'm far more interested in the B model
technic designers have been on a roll with the B models recently
>>6030622
thanks for the answers. i was talking to a (suspiciously) nice worker in the store, and he was letting me dig through the boxes of build a fig in the backroom, but other than older things that were "watered down" with new stuff, it was alot of the same thing. i figured they got random boxes of shit that rotated at some point, and they just dump them all together
tl:dr, box they filled figs with has 800 cowboy hats, and 4 old pink wands
that and the two times i had been there since moving (less than 2 weeks apart) the fig changed from a tiny green jeep (and there were no wheels left on the wall) to the penguins. so i figured there was some sort of a schedule for the pick-a-model itself
i really wish the jeeps parts were actually there the first time i went. would be nice to have had alot of extra wheels
also the fact that the second visit, on the wall were train towball connectors, but no wheels to make a train
that and alot of sand green 2x1's for some reason
Is that a new worm gear I spy?
>>6030658
>>6030622
actually, now that im looking through all the pick-a-model's in that link ALOT of the parts on the wall that arnt in the penguin, ARE ALL parts from figures there
i guess the "new bricks" on the wall are most likely going to be penguin parts once the next model kicks penguin out the door
>>6030664
Yes sir it is also great for bevel gears and meat sauces
>>6030658
You should probably ask the suspicious nice person to be friends. Maybe see if they are single. Can't hurt to have an inside man.
>>6030667
They just get boxes of parts to put on the wall. They also get some boxes that have parts for the models. The boxes are called k-boxes if I'm not mistaken. Here is one I bought. It has 1x2 dark red bricks made in Mexico. You just get whatever the store gets in. That's all the wall is.
>>6030455
Lego World Builder and World Builder II. Excellent games.
The Defender was a friendly character only- all of the enemies were animals, mostly crabs, scorpions, and alligators, and with World Builder II you'd also get lions, sharks, and a T-rex!
Today on my lunch break I worked out it should be theoretically possible to create AND, OR and EXOR gates with Lego's new pneumatic system. If I can work out other basic logic gates it should be possible to create a pneumatic bit adder.

Looks like she has a single long arm, that runs through her torso and is probably some sort of soft rubber, with harder plastic at the ends, to not only accommodate regular minifig hands, but to also stop the arm from just sliding all the way through and coming out.
>>6030812
>Looks like she has a single long arm, that runs through her torso and is probably some sort of soft rubber, with harder plastic at the ends
Oh! I can see that now. So her Chima fists are being held by regular minifig claws. Sweet ass design.

6 USD doesn't seem like much. Don't CMFs go for around 5 nowadays?

Why would they give the Hulks of all characters VEHICLES instead of a building to smash down instead?
>>6030912
For variety? Every Hulk set so far besides the Hulkbuster has been a destructible playset.
>>6030912
Because then it would just be a clone of Hulk's Lab Smash, which was an excellent little destroyable playset
>>6030885

I had the component sets for the combiner. I put it together like that, once. I eventually got it out by sticking a tiny flathead screwdriver into the space and prying the #2 axle fractions of a millimeter at a time. I didn't build it like that again.
What was /really/ hard to reverse was a step in making the alternate build for Uplink (for some reason I can't upload the pic). Unless I was doing it wrong, to reverse one step you had to partially remove a sticker to expose a Technic hole. At least, I think--the only time I did it, it was with a friend's set. We managed to reverse it but agreed not to build it again.

Go to a goodwill outlet store. Be prepared to spend at least a couple hours there.
When they bring out fresh tables of goods, situate yourself near the ones that look like they have lots of miscellaneous toys.
When the last table is set in place, beware the flying shrapnel and grabby hands of others who are there for the same reason you are.
Duplo and Bionicle will be your most common finds. Occasionally you might get a part of a boxed set with instructions.
On checkout, pay $1.29 / lb for lego bricks.
