Should I get the upcoming Kotobukiya Unit-01 model kit or should I try and hunt down the SOC SPEC fig?

Also general Evangelion thread.
>>
LM-HG, PG Eva 01, and Koto T.I. kits are still the best based on the original designs.
>>
>>6026145
Not everything has to be a general
>>
>>6026273
I have the LMHG and boy it is a pain in the ass to have to paint everything.

The SOC looks really nice but the prices are rape tier and it's near impossible to get anywhere.

>>
>>6026276
>>6026410
I can fix this.

Pre-refit Unit 00 has always been yellow, and the Rebuild movies aren't bad.
>>
>>6026315
you mean the new SOC or the old ones?
I bought all four of the new ones around six months ago, and the only rape priced one was the 02, at around 8000 yen. all the others were under 5000, the yellow 00 was 2500.
I think I spent less than 20000 for the four of them.

If you meant the old SOC, they're honestly outdated.
>>
>>6026145
Robot Damashii makes the best rebuild EVA units. They are incredibly accurate to the source and very flexible.
>>
I got the RAH unit 01, really the best representation of the design
>>
the soc specs are amazing, like really nice. bu they're old as fuck. I hamhanded my 400% and broke a join in the abdomen trying to get a crouching pose, months later I took it out of storage and moved the leg and the joint broke at the knee in a second. I still want another but it might be worth it to just get the model kit.
>>
Let me use this to ask a similar question

Best Asuka figure?
>>
>>6029241
Cu-Poche
>>
>>6026145
I love my XS-01R. Looks great, has a nice feel, very articulate, and holy shit the accessories are incredible. The upcoming koto kit looks more accurate though, and is significantly cheaper, although obviously you'll have to build and paint it.

Really just depends on what you want, but I really do think the SPEC are great.

My top five:

Cu-poche
figma (if you like the Rebould suit)
Nendo (if you like the Racing Queen suit)
Fraulein Revoltech 2.0
RAH
>>
>>6026764
New ones.

I can get all 3 for total 38,000 but that's expensive. Maybe I can balance it off using christmas cash.

>>6028989
>>6028998
Not looking for Rebuildshit designs sorry.

>>6029222
Sick trips.

I heard the original XS-01 had breakage issues so the XS-01R was released to fix them. That could be why.

Anyone know if these issues exist on the XS-08 and 09?

>>6029254
My only issue with the Koto kit is that it lacks the playability of the SPEC. The SPEC is all round ideal for me except for the price. And whatever potential breakage issues there may be.
>>
>>6029435
on amazon.jp, if you go for used ones, the cheapest right now are
00 yellow 3710yen
00 blue 6500yen
01 10321
02 6310

that's a total of 26841 for four (and not three) of them. even including shipping and proxy cost (I could do it for you for 500 yen a figure) you should stay at around 30000yen

I have all four of them, bought them used in april, and while I dont move them much, they didnt break or anything. the only "bad" one is the yellow 00 which was REALLY used (lose joints and smelled of smoke, come scratches in the paint too), but I guess that unless you play with them like a 5 years old would, or you change pose every day, they're quite solid figures.
>>
>>6029554
Got it from Mandarake instead because I trust their secondhand stuff more. Thanks for the effort though.

Are there any angels that scale with the 6" stuff? I know there were some old prize figures or something, but google's not giving me anything useful. I'd honestly be cool with statues so long as they're sized right, I want to finally put an evangelion shelf together and it'd look weird without them.

>>6037808
Which number was it? There's a pretty huge difference in quality between the first few they made and the most recent ones from the rebuilds, you might have gotten one of the old ones. Generally though, the robot damashii are king of the 6" stuff, that unit 01 is easily the best articulated toy I own, and it comes with a bunch of stuff. It's not perfect, but I honestly can't say enough good things about it. If you're cool with rubber arms and 12 inch scale the RAH is amazing too, though it and the RD are expensive as fuck nowadays.
>>
>>6037843
I got the #11 one that says tenth anniversary on the box so this is definitely one of the older ones. The robot damashii one looks pretty good and I found a decent priced one on amazon ($59), thanks my dude.

>I found a decent priced one on amazon ($59)
I'm pretty sure that's the sdcc version. I think it comes with the same stuff, but be aware it's made of translucent plastic.
>>
>>6037882

I missed it when it was going around for $40 and definitely won't be paying $120+ for it now. I have the RD Eva 02 and it is legit one of the best articulated figures I've owned. Maybe... maybe someday I'll run into an EVA 01 RD for non stupid prices again.
>>
>>6037882
Oh I see, explains why it's cheaper i'll have to look for the regular one.

>>
>>6026145
I have the robot damashii unit-01, it's the rebuild version but the differences are minimal and don't bother me, it's a nice figure.
>>
>>6037808
The current verdict is the SOC SPEC XS-01R.

Don't even bother with the revos, they're either painfully outdated or eyesore
Rebuildshit

>>6037937
Not good. The only decent Revo evas are the EVO series and even then those look terrible thanks to the designs themselves being shit.

>>6040875
I'm glad I never fell for the RD meme, or I would have had to put up with those hideous hips and that awful green placement while overpaying out the ass.
>>
>>6041310
>SOC SPEC XS-01R
the RD unit 01 is cheaper on amazon
>>
>>6041354
But also a lot more underwhelming. And much, much less visually appealing.
>>
>>6041310
The SPEC is fantastic. The only drawback is that the diecast feet get really loose, really fast. Other than that, it's the best option if you want a TV version Eva that looks good out of the box.
>>
>>6041310
>Don't even bother with the revos, they're either painfully outdated or eyesore
The revos are fine, but only parts of them. You need like three of them to make a good revo.
>>
>>6041442
The dude has a hate boner for the rebuild designs, so being a revo isn't really the issue.

There really isn't any decent figures of the TV designs, the few figures all are quite old and have dated engineering.

I think I had the PG kit when it first came out and looking back I have no idea how I put that thing together as a child.
>>
>>6041437
Do they? I've only had mine for about 2-3 days now but they're holding up fine.

But jesus christ, the figure feels so good inhand and the diecast placement is perfection.

>>6041442
How much is the standard revo? Like, $40? Assuming MSRP.

And you still end up with ugly Rebuild designs too.
>>
>>6041466
>so being a revo isn't really the issue
It's part of the issue. Not only does it look like shit, the engineering is also shit.

Just because it's not the core problem at hand doesn't mean it isn't part of the problem.
>>
OP here, I finally have all 3 of my SPEC Evas in hand. They're absolutely fantastic, thanks for reccing them.

Do any figures of the Angels at this scale exist though? It'd be nice if I can have some monsters to display with my trio.
>>
Okay, I'm looking for a unit 08 figure but all I can find is Revoltechs and it's only 6 1/2 inches tall. Does anything larger exist?
>>
>>6047181
Yeah, there's a Medicom RAH for that too, around 10-12k yen on mandy. They look amazing and the size is really nice and bulky, you can find a few reviews on youtube, definetly gonna buy one for myself someday. However the revos are very nice too, they have clear eyes too which is a great touch, I own both Unit 08 alpha and beta, the alpha one ends up looking pretty big while mounted on the re-entry shield. There's model kits too that are larger than the revos but I have no idea if they're good or not.
Hope this was helpful, unit 08 is the best!
>>
>>6047190
I like the looks of the revo but this is going to be part of a unit 08 themed custom computer and it's just too small. The Medicom looks perfect though, thanks!

A personal favorite of mine is one of the early Real Model toy line by Sega. I know they're kind of low budget, but as far as I know, this is the only figure I know of Eva-01 from episode 19 with the human arm. It also includes the face without helmet, crazy.

From the Ban Dai model kits, I love the Sachiel HG one, very unique figure with the rubber body, building it was pretty fun.

There's a limited edition version of the SOC SPEC Unit-01 that comes with the Zeruel battle damage.

It is very obscure though, and quite difficult to find pictures of.
>>
So my Revoltech 100 is still a decent thing to have?
>>

If you don't mind the fact that the design it's based upon is shit, I guess so.

Probably the only decent engineering ever put into Revoltech Evas.

OP here, I have a request.

Could someone else with the XS-09 Unit-00 post a pic of the entry plug? For some reason the one mine came with is thinner than the ones on Unit-01 and 02, and the end with the grey segment is flat rather than rounded off.

I only just noticed this, for some reason. I'd appreciate if someone could confirm for me if it's intended and part of the figure or it's some weird ass manufacturing error or someone swaped plugs when selling it to Mandarake.

This was the prototype for Movie Realization EVA 01. I have this figure, I love it. It's not as poseable as the RD or revoltechs and it's more around 7-8 inch tall but it's articulated enough.

It's a great "redesign" or take on the EVA 01 design and trying to make it slightly more "real" without going overboard.

This is the line that died then got revived to get Takeya to make those samurai Star Wars figures.

>>

This on the other hand is actually pretty fucking cool. The emphasis on white with blue highlights is actually a nice mirror of Rei's plugsuit.

>>6054360
Cool, if I ever chance upon one by accident I'll get it.
>>
>>6054325
Alright, after doing some research online I've found that whatever the fuck I got as my Unit-00's entry plug is definitely not what it's supposed to come with.

What should I do in this situation? I know Mandarake is a secondhand store so I'm not sure what they can do to help.
>>
>>6054364
yeah, I still haven't been able to find the whole image, you can see a hint of their ver of Eva 02 there in the back in this cropped image. I do really like the way they did EVA 00 to mirror Rei's plugsuit too, plus it's not all that often anymore that we get a 00 figure with that shoulder-hand cannon.
>>

Now I'm confused, I found some spic site which shows the entry plug being fairly similar to the one I got. Unfortunately the top of the plug is not visible so I can't confirm if it has the flat top like mine. Pic is the photo from the site.

However boxart and stock photos show that the entry plug should be more like the one on Unit-01 and 02.

What the fuck is going on? Is this normal?

Also I got it from SAHRA.
>>
>>6026145
I'm thinking about getting this. It's only 30 pounds I believe. Does the company making these evas have a good track record on previous figures tho? It does look good but I just need to be sure.
Also do the parts come pre painted?
>>
>>6055174

I have it but I haven't built it. Green and black parts are molded in and pre-painted. You'd have to paint the green stripe on the horn, but the green details on the arms and such are molded in green and some are pre-painted parts.
>>
>>6055872
In that case does it come with the tools to paint the figure or am I gonna have to buy that separately.
>>
>>6056314

you're going to have to buy it separately. It looks good out of the box and imo best sculpt for EVA 01 minus getting the Medicom 12 inch with rubber suit over the joints but you'll have to paint some small details yourself, like the stripe on the horn and the gray parts on the knuckle.
>>
>>6049020

As are the seam lines being located in the same obvious places as the LM-HGs.

The ideal option here is to go hardcore on the Koto kit, removing seams and painting the entire thing. Of course by the time I finish I probably won't feel like playing with it, which defeats my original plan of painting my LM-HG and keeping this one safe to fiddle with.

I kinda want all three so theyre the cheapest I guess? Way cheaper compared to the specs or RAH.

>>
>>6086049
They're the cheapest ignoring the revos and model kits but they also have the lowest value for money. $150 is going to be the price you pay for 2 in a best case scenario, not 3. And what you get looks like absolute shit. I mean seriously, those fucking hips.

You're seriously better off dropping the dosh for the SPECs, the RDs and RAHs are a waste of time.

There's also the fact that they use the hideous Rebuild sausage design and have some of the dumbest sculpts I've ever seen on anything related to Evangelion.

Just look at how fucking retarded pic related is.

Also, look at those awful peanut knees.

You came to this thread for advice, so there it is, take it or leave it.

I don't get the comparison here, the Movie version kit has been painted additionally by the modeller (knuckles, horn, kneecaps and probably airbrushed the entire thing too) they've also done seamline removal and shit as well. the factory painted parts on the rebuild are only present there because they're not supposed to be on the tv version??? if anything it should be compared to an OOB bandai kit

If you're on a budget, the NGE Revo isn't bad for the price, and is probably the definitive figure of Asuka Langley SORYU. That said, she's rather outdated and outclassed by the 2.0 Revo, her elbow joints break easily, and her worst design flaw is probably her hair restricting her head movement.

OP here, my XS-01R's left foot seems to be getting incredibly loose, particularly the forwards and backwards movement. Is there any way that I can tighten the joint?

You could try putting some future to tighten the joint.

If not, you could buy my old XS-01R and use it for parts.

I usually find that the Eva model kits look the best when it comes to detail.

I have Unit 01 right now but I'm looking to get all the other suits as kits.

I'm not sure if they sell 09 or Kowaru's in kit form though.
