As always, report and ignore shitposters, second you feel the other guy is dumb resort to that, DO NOT acknowledge them as they crave it, and remember, we all have opinions, some good (mp10 is awesome) and some shit (some like pic related just because he's HUGE) but we still have our freedom to choose, for freedom is the right of all sentient beings.

So I have a few questions, first up is pic related.

I want a GOOD and DECENT representation of optimus prime but in DELUXE size (since I have a megatron in everysize), yes I have a g1 bias but to give you an idea of how open I am the megatron from cybertron makes for a fine generations galvatron, so any good looking deluxe optimus, please steer me in the right direction if you please.

The second is harder, I'm also a seeker fag, I have all current hasbro mp11 molds, but I also want the coronation set for starscream, should I jump some hurdles and buy the reissue of the takara mp11 and sell off my hasbro crew (even though a takara sunstorm would rape my wallet), keep a second almost identical starscream just for his cape, or can anyone point me to a stand alone cape and crown?

I have been told the 3rd party set intended for mp03 works, but seeing how the heads are different the crown wouldn't work now would it?

CW Liokaiser is up on EE now, w/ a coupon code and G1 diorama thrown in as well. http://www.entertainmentearth.com/prodinfo.asp?number=HSB6639&id=CA-108078943

Anyone going for it? The deluxes look pretty sweet, despite Sky Lynx being so weird as the main 'bot

WFC prime is also quite tall for a deluxe

It's either a knock off Classics voyager Prime, or the redeco that came packaged with FOC Grimlock, exclusive to Target. They were done up in shiny bits, didn't look too hot really.

There are tons and tons of decos of that mold. Look it into and pick whichever you prefer. It's really good. People hate the "forearm kibble" but that's about the only thing holding it back.

Newfag to Transformers here, had some gifted to me in 2010 and since I was younger I didn't care take proper care of them and donated them about 2 weeks ago. I want to start collecting Transformers really badly; what would be the best way to start? I love the G1 series but they're simply too expensive.

Me personally, I thought about starting with the 5.5" scale figures. Thoughts?

>best way to start

If you have a budget, stick to any and all newer toys from the current generations titan masters or combiner wars lines, the "deluxes" (which are the same size as what you posted) are generally good though with the combiner wars line there is alot of obvious reuse where's the newer titan masters line is less apparent depending on which you buy.

If you are willing to bid on ebay you have lots of options, if you know any characters simple type their names into the transformers wikia, look for a toy section (or scroll down to the bottom if the entry is small enough to accommodate that) and have a gander, then watch some reviews and go from there.

If you want g1 faithfulness and are willing to pay alot then stick to the masterpiece line but perhaps make one-2 purchases a year on characters are actually know, don't be like me and try and buy all the masterpiece jet transformers in one year, it fucking hurts (but I don't regret it, just my wallet)
>>
>>6015050

If you want to buy Transformers on the cheap, patience pays off. Hang around boards (and here obviously) and you'll inevitably catch wind of all the sales and what not. At random times, Walmart's site or Amazon might throw up crazy discounts.

Lots of TF toys also turn up at stores like Ross, Marshalls, and TJ Maxx months later for significantly less than the original price. Combiner Wars voyagers were $25 US retail, and several of them can now be found for $10-$13 in those stores.

Sometimes shit that's hard to find because it was released at the tail end of a line even ends up there, hilariously after lots of people panic and give in to crazy ebay prices.

Yeah, hit up Marshalls and you may find the G2 Giftsets for like $35. Ridiculously good price for 4 deluxes, 1 voyager, and a legend. I know most don't want those color schemes but goddamn.
>>
>>6015078
Never got the G2 Superion but the Silverbolt hand breaking thing sounds like a deal breaker.

I mean it's still a damn fine price even if it's just 4 deluxes plus Powerglide, but I'll pass on it personally.
>>
>>6015080

There are usually enough "mine is fine" reports to justify a gamble on QC if there's a cheap enough price - but that's me. Totally get being cautious. There are more important things to do with money in life for sure.

Only QC issue I ever really ran into was one of those many Ruination redeco sets from back in the day. The grey camo one. I had it sealed for years, eventually said fuck it and opened it. Two left combiner fists. It was actually kind of funny.

I interrupt this quiet thread to show tf_pr's latest post, legends highbrow.

Does takara win again, well no, the head is based on obscure angles from the show and was chosen simply so its more than a simple block head like most appearances had him cast as, if anything apart from *MAYBE* the head sitting up too high (I seen the retail highbrows in hand) the hasbro version is fine.

I'm only stuck with this one because once I buy into a "set" I need to complete it within the same line, really the hasbro one has a better deco and the head isn't as bug eye'd, for die hards of japanese headmasters and completionist like myself only.

He's a variant of the "dead end" mold, specifically a newhead retool of streetwise, he does the job fine since the car kinda homages a nissan Z but you can't help but feel he was a cheap cash in of the mold, a problem for those who bought multiple sets like myself.

So yeah, he's solid but he's from a toy that's been reused a fair bit
>>
>>6015110
The deco looks nice but his goggles are a little too big.

Either way though I don't think I'm picking up the Highbrow tooling. The copter looks too blocky for my taste (especially from above).

>>6015107

Good mold despite being overused. He can be found on sale easily so go for it. Probably the best G1 inspired Prowl outside of the Masterpiece.
>>
>>6015107
He has a handsome headsculpt. Very solid toy if you don't mind that he doesn't have his iconic hood chest or door wings.

Despite that he's better than the Universe Prowl that did do those things.

>Hasbro seemingly further lowering the budget and having to rename their downgraded Deluxe line
The odds did seem stacked heavily against the line in the beginning.

The designers have found their footing though, and now every new figure is a good one. These homage figures would even look fine sitting in someone's neo-Classics collection. Who knew?

They put more budget into UW, clearly. They only poured enough into their Headmasters releases retool face panels and the few parts they changed on Ginrai.

I guess there's more leeway when you're doing boxsets (just look at the expense Hasbro spared for Vicky, Computron, and Liokaiser).
>>
>>6015357
Funny thing is, the way the blades attach implies that's what they were going for, allowing them to fold up into a U shape and giving the arms way more clearance. For some reason they then made that impossible without modding, no idea why.

How would Sentinel Trump solve #Metroplexit ?
>>
>>6015364
They actually changed a fair bit on Ginrai:

-New face for Headmaster
-New chest piece
-Front of cab is based on the G1 vehicle mode
-Neck for the Headmaster port was extended
-New guns
-New forearms and hands that are 5mm compatible
-New feet
-New thighs
-All around better colorscheme (the red on PMOP is too washed out, and the gray they used is just awful).

I honestly thought they'd just release POMP with different colors and a new HM face, but they poured a lot more than I expected. Is Ginrai that popular over there?

So what's the best version of Waspinator? I'm considering these four molds:
>Generations Waspinator: Great bot mode, kinda questionable wasp mode. Prone to breakage alledgedly.
>Animated Waspinator: Would go well with my Animated Blackarachnia, looks pretty cool. I don't know much about the mold though.
>Transmetal Waspinator: Looks awesome, can turn into a jet, available in two pretty sweet colour schemes, cheap on eBay. Chrome could be prone to flaking due to age.
>Original BW Waspinator: Actually has better wasp mode than the Generations figure. Mutant head gimmick is kinda dumb.

Liokaiser is an amazing set. I think it's the best set released in Combiner Wars. Both tanks are well done, both jets are well done. Dezarus is Evil Skylynx after not having a new G1 Skylynx toy since G1 they belt out CW Skylynx and an Awesome Decepticon Retool within a short period of time.

Yeah there's no turqouise jet or black dune buggy but Dezarus makes up for both of time well enough.

Honestly, at worst I'm expecting another Superion mold body and the Liokaiser drilltank being the Computron retool drill while the other is the Brawl mold, while at best they harvest all the money saved from the upcoming repaints and go full retard and make a combining, all new body bot for the two missing members.
>>

>>
>>6015541
It's that or RID15 Ratchet.
>>
>>6015545

Well, that might be why they're doing almost nothing but repaints now for the past few releases. Making a new Ratchet head and the retools for Computron couldn't have cost them that much. Baldigus is a straight up repaint, so is Megawaifu.

Maybe they're just saving budget for a big surprise with Liokaiser.
>>
>>6015556
Japan does love Liokaiser. I could see two new deluxes forming a torso.
>>
Takara Liokaiser will just be stupid superion body and fucking non-combining Blackjack which will pass for car guy.

Takara Drill tank leg possible, but the US version equipped with the cannons on the side resembles a warhammer 40k tank. It's amazing what a few guns will do.
>>
>>6015569

Like I said, could be going that way as well. It wouldn't be a bad way either, the Superion mold is pretty hard to fuck up so even if they did that it'd be a good base body.
>>
>>6015412

Clearly the generations. BW mold ruins the wasp mode with the damn legs.

Sunstreaker is kind of meh. He's made from an "eh" mold and he's a really shitty feeling plastic.

Mirage is good but if you sperg over him not having the racecar front as a chest, you won't like him.

Prowl is great, but it's a Deadend remold and you might have like 30 of those already by the time you're done nabbing combiners.
>>

>>
>>6015766
They can be found at discounters like marshalls and tjmaxx. I bought entire limb sets for less than 45.
>>
>>6015805

Everything in the Generations line is mostly G1 influenced, and Combiner Wars is no different.

As for solid Decepticons in the line, pretty much all of Bruticus/The Combaticons are good except for two issues, those being Vortex's handfootgun port is really shitty and will probably stress and crack unless you sand it, and it might crack even then, which is a fault of him being the CW Heli mold, all of that mold suffer from this, it's an inherent design flaw. The second issue is Brawl's waist tab might not hold too well, which is a QC issue. Some have issues with it, some don't. Mine doesn't.

I would also say definite check out the current line, Titans Return too. Apart from some QC issues, the Deluxes there are all pretty damn fun.

Yeah, the last two lines (Combiner/Unite Wars and Titans Return) have been pretty good. CW saw a ton of re-used molds, but thats mostly because every Deluxe had to function as a robot, vehicle, arm, AND leg. Despite that, everything turned out pretty good except for Menasor (who usually needs a 3rd party addon kit to not look weird when combined).

Titans Return has been plagued with QC issues likely as a result of them moving their factories recently, but beyond the QC, the actual molds themselves have been pretty good, and just making 'bots with removeable heads is a Hell of a lot less "intrusive" of a gimmick than forcing every Deluxe to be a 'bot, vehicle, arm, and leg all in one.

I'll be honest, I still kind of like the older better. Although the MP's engineering and show accuracy is very impressive.
>>
>>6016193
>the elbows look like shit, but I understand why they did it

So... why did they do it? I honestly see no reason why they couldn't have had a piece of plastic attached to the elbow that slides into the upper or lower arm. None. These elbows were acceptable on a cheap toy in 1995. Not on a $100 MP figure.

I got my Primal a few days ago. First MP for me. Kinda disappointed. Yes, I knew about these issues beforehand, but they're more impactful than I'd have thought. Any pose I come up with just looks like shit. If the knees are bent it looks like shit. If the elbow are in view it looks like shit. Can you really call this a masterpiece if the limbs can't be posed without looking like they're not even attached?

The only people that like this mold more than the classics mold ate geewunners. Fact.
>>
>>6016226
Show accuracy, original toy accuracy, the forearm guns. That explains the elbows, at least for me. I'll agree with you that the knees are fucked, but that's due to the transformation scheme and keeping both modes in scale, and if a team of gook engineers couldn't figure out a way to make it work better I sure as hell can't either.

As for it being an MP, I guess that comes down to preference. When I look at or pose it next to the LG-02 or other Beast Wars figures it blows them away. I own other MP's with their fare share of flaws, and with a much higher price point, so I'm choosing to enjoy it for what it is.
>>
>>6016241
Hey, the mold isn't great, sure. But it feels a lot better as Wheeljack than the other.
>>
>>6016226
Sliding into the lower arm would've been impossible due to the arm cannons, and the upper arm has the rotating circular piece. Making it more like the show would've meant limiting elbow articulation to 90 degrees, or having to scoop out some of the forearm to allow it to bend further than 90.

Maybe on a bigger figure these issues could've been avoided, but that might've killed our chances at getting an MP Megatron or Dinobot due to the size being too big for what takara is willing to sell.
>>
>>6016257
They're both like almost good enough, but in different ways. The CW one is definitely the best use of that mold. I like both and have both but man, I'd like just one more shot at new Wheeljack. Or just scale down the MP.

I just noticed something while checking my rather large collection.

Why is it that takara legends figures get an open display, yet masterpieces get a closed box?

Why does hasbro mp's bother with packing them in robot mode when the contents aren't visible for that matter?

Why don't mp's have window box style packaging?
>>
>>6016740
The LG boxes are meant to homage the original G1 boxes. The MPs are probably because they're a premium item so they come in a sleek black box with their promo shots. For Hasblow I have no clue, sometimes I think they're run by people with down syndrome.
>>
>>6016740
Maybe having them hidden from view is part of the psychological process that makes them feel more high-end.

>Why does hasbro mp's bother with packing them in robot mode when the contents aren't visible for that matter?
This I would guess is to give Hasbro MPs more consistent box sizes; you know how western retailers love size classes.

They're cool and all but adding a flap would give a nice touch, their UW series has those, even sentinel's take on playstation and megadrive had those, and even with regards to their alt modes I honestly think they look good.

Only thing I can remotely think of is the way they pack the clamshells, they cram as much in in an economic manner

>>6016748
>Maybe having them hidden from view is part of the psychological process that makes them feel more high-end.
Hrm, interesting theory.

>This I would guess is to give Hasbro MPs more consistent box sizes; you know how western retailers love size classes.
Surprised they didn't give them a window flap, they tried to "expose" the product with the older mp's like the mp03's and mp10's, though those were shit in terms of sturdiness so they instead gave them those universal sized boxes.

Which annoy me when something so small takes up so much room, also that size thing, wasn't that just for retailers for their pricing guides?

Makes no sense seeing how mp's are a single retailer exclusive
>>
>>6016754
Actually maybe the lack of flaps is just so that they don't have to spend additional money for all the plastic windows and velcro pads.

I think part of the Platinum line's ridiculous cost is because of the admittedly cool packaging.

Windowless boxes are cost effective since with MPs every last dollar is scrutinized by both Takara and the fans.

Alt modes don't matter since legends figures are packed in alt mode or robot and they're window'd, after unboxing my ratchet he's kinda ugly to look at because he's on his side and not horizontal.
