For those unfamiliar, "Plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model." If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.

Secret Santa

It's that time of year again. Just look at the form and fill it out. Signups last until December 1st, pairs go out in the days after that.

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdprprkU_4UBARdot0ASSmoUoxghk9bOPVuRrvZKfghAZQRbg/viewform?c=0&w=1

A few things:
-Use an active email, I don't want to be hounding you and then have to repair someone.
-Use your full address, I don't know every damn city and zip code in the US.

A new option, Cards Only. If you pick this you're assumed to be willing to ship international (it's a card after all). It doesn't have to be a handmade card, just something nice. Of course handmade is nicest, but not everyone has the skills for it.

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdprprkU_4UBARdot0ASSmoUoxghk9bOPVuRrvZKfghAZQRbg/viewform?c=0&w=1

As always, I'm available here, on IRC, or at [email protected].

I'll say. The t3 suits are incredible.

This is the green version i was talking about. It actually says 1/144 High Grade in the upper left block of text.

Is it a resin kit or a mislabeled no grade or something? The L shaped shoulder armor looks like a different piece than the one used in the standard HG hi-zack.

Aside from the gaplant and the hazels, what other t3 suits got HG kits?

They originally retailed for like $5-$8 depending on where you got them (Unless it was a large or limited special release). Because they've been discontinued their price is starting to inflate.

Similar but these are actually itty bitty model kits, not just action figures. I beleive it seems the details and sculpts are improved, but they do suffer from the issue of needing some clean up work as models. You also got to applyu stickers to them and the worst part imo from reading reviews is the lack of stands. Hell they even lack any holes to plug a stand into like say a preexisting assault kingdom stand or similar.

Yeah, the most frustrating part of P-Bandai is dealing with middleman fees. 3780 yen isn't that bad of a price for the kit, since it's exactly how much the MSRP+tax of a GM 2.0 is.
>>
>>6014703

It's reusing the gm/rx-78's mg 2.0 runners. Those already had articulated fingers, just as individual pieces you needed to assemble rather than a single sonic welded piece.

Don't make excuses for poor worksmanship. You asked for criticism, accept it and improve the next work.
Also, don't weather or paint without seam-welding first, at least in more obvious areas. And the crotchpiece on the GM looks way too clean in comparison to the rest of the model. As another anon said, "less is more". With that much rust and dirt the GM shouldn't be moving at all, it would make much more sense as an abandoned wreck in a diorama of some kind. The panel lining on the neck is also very messy, and it also looks like the paint you used needs to have been thinned on the shoulders.

I had an idea come up that wouldn't damage ABS like using those things would, similar to a tip on putting waterslides (but if you're afraid of messing up the paintjob from spraying gloss beforehand)

Run diluted(?) Future onto the general area where you want to run the wash, let it cure, and then you can use an acrylic-based wash in lieu of enamels. I'm guessing you can make wash by having a small amount of paint diluted in Future, or you can do it via a larger proportion of water and matte medium?

What do you guys think?

On Hobby Search it's the Universal Cutter.

What I wanna know is: Are there any equivalent tools that do the same job? I was thinking of the Fiskars Job Boss scissors but they pretty much cost about 3x the price of this cutter. So do you guys think it might be a good buy for cutting pla-plates?

The size you're going for is a little small but to fabricate shapes like that by hand, generally,

>1st thing is to template the shape. Either draw on the plastic itself or print/paste a pattern there.

>Use slow material-removal methods like filing and sanding to remove the buffer material and achieve the shapes you want.

Threadly reminder: "pla-plate" is the most superfluous word ever and using it makes you sound like an idiot to modelers (this includes gunpla modelers) who were alive before 1998.
The word is "styrene". An entirely new vocabulary for the exact same shit is not necessary just because you are building robots.
Next thing you idiots will be calling glue "pla-weld" and nippers "pla-snips".
>>
>>6017145
>buffer material
>slow material removal

I am an idiot. No wonder I couldn't match the shapes up all the time, because I kept directly chopping and scoring on the outlines.

On another adventure of cutting plastic, I've been experimenting with cutting clear acetate sheets (hurray for 49 cents/sheet) for lenses and stuff. When I do score and cut them the edges are jagged, and they don't take well to being smoothened on the edges (also that flexing).

Tips? And no, my area has no sources of clear pla-plates.

They bumped like 7 people out a few days after the event and never made any effort to tell them, then had a public shitfit when one of them told them that was a shitty way to handle that.

For my first gundam i think i did pretty well, i did unfortunately hamhand the helmet... taped a part of it for now but i do have plastic glue that i plan to use

I also need to get a stand for it and am going to build the weapons next, but i really like how this one looks, and maybe end up getting more

I just picked up an HG Build Burning Gundam as my first kit from a local hobby shop, along with some grey and black gundam pens and a base. Nice selection and incredibly fair prices, which was surprising. Waiting for my xacto set and clippers to come Monday, which works out well since my weekend is Tuesday-Wednesday. Really excited to get started.

Do you guys typically put on some music while you work, or a show in the background?
>>
>>6017610

I'd REALLY recommend getting a craft knife so you can take care of those.
>>
>>6017618
yep, i usually put on he radio or watch G Gundam on YouTube, as the full series sans some unimportant episodes are all there

How do you know if a gundam pen has gone dry? I just bought one and use it'd it for like a half a kit and now it won't work. I used it over paint did I fuck it?
>>
>>6017685
They don't like being used over paint, dab it in a touch of rubbing alcohol or something similar and you'll get the paint out of it.
>>
>>6017610
Did you pull that off the tree by hand? Jesus man, spur of the moment (dumb) decision or not you can do better.
>>
>>6017566
I should PROBABLY finish my turtle. It's been partially lined for ages but I don't feel like mucking with paint right now.

>>6017618
I play music sometimes, but that involves having my computer on and fucking with changing songs which slows me down. Building isn't about hurrying through, but still.

I admittedly can't tell if those are nendos or cu-poches and they are cute and all but I'd like to know how you justify them when people enter your room. Or do you just not let people in there?
>>
>>6017756
Aquatic Zeon MS are a bit of a luxury. They're generally not as common as a Zaku or a Dom, and fishing them up is a difficult task, what with them being highly territorial and incredibly dangerous for your average Aqua Jim that decides to go hunting in the ocean.

As in the external layer of plastic wrap? I was under the impression that it was added by the retailer. My hlj kits are always multiple boxes wrapped together, whereas the kits i buy in person from a local store have an outer layer of plastic shrink wrap, and an anti theft tag/sticker inside the box.

It's nothing special. The G-Armor box set has the 2.0 and the G-Fighter, both molded in the real-type colors. Oh, and it was a standard release, not P-Shill.

It is. I wish I'd both built it and also learned of the exclusive 4-pack sooner.
On that note I really should get started on that Ironfoot as well.

If I were interested in getting into Zoid kits, what would be a nice, cheap starter? My youngest brother had a motorized Liger Zero I built for him, which sadly is gone I think - I just want some of the nostalgia, and some of the awesome designs.

>>6017888
I'll have to take a look for that set. Love the original Gundam design, and that's just too good to miss out on. That bubble canopy, so rad.

So, they like don't think you're gay or an otaku degenerate? I only ask, not to be rude, but because I would get a nendo maybe but I don't know how people would generally react.

I kinda wanted a nipako and i'd give her a mini table to make mini gunpla or one of those little arcade machines they sell at hobbysearch.

Like lmao. "Jesus man"...

I don't know what you mean was a dumb decision. I'm a software engineer and make $100,000 a year so I can afford to throw away money at toys all I like.
As for my model sucking, get over it. I really don't know why you have to act like a little snobby elitist cunt and try and make me feel like I made a bad decision buying my first Gundam. For the record you don't know anything at all about me, I'll have you know my parents just got divorced and I could really use a distraction in my life right now, which is why I picked up a toy spur of the moment. You have problems.

if youre a engineer and this is what you make its really easy for me to know that youre full of shit. truth-wise. like as in your not really an engineer
>>
>>6018135
Don't get so defensive, it just gives people more to work with when they inevitably fuck with you.

You're on 4chan, you should know how to deal with this. When someone gives you shit ignore it, and don't take it personally. It's part of the 4chan experience, especially if you leave yourself vulnerable by making a mistake, being inexperienced, or reacting like you just did.

If you're new to the website then just assume the worst. Assume someone is going to take advantage of any vulnerabilities and either remove them, or don't take it to heart when they attack one of your posts.

Anonymity allows posters to attack each other without feeling guilty, but it also means those attacks are almost never personal. It's just circumstantial, like a fisherman with a hook in the water.

That barbatos looks fine for a first attempt. I'd recommend buying some sprue cutters for the future.
>>
>>6018057
>So, they like don't think you're gay or an otaku degenerate?
If they think that or treat you differently after knowing about your hobby you should pick better friends. If you're really that insecure then this hobby isn't for you anyway.

My room is filled with gundam to the point I look like an excessive maniac, but my friends enjoy my cool robots, even my gf supports my gundam hobby
Ive brought Japanese exchange students over to talk with and they are always like "sugoi"
One of them actually said "ah, you are weeb" i laughed so hard

its all about the personality you exhibit, if you are a timid person its harder to play it off, but if you have one nendo in the room, dont even pay attention unless its brought up, and even then just say "Oh its a cute little figure I got"

if you are a boisterous person you are less likely to be caught off guard

and if they talk shit, tell em to fuck off, thats how we do it in Australia :^)

>>6018300
Lol, thanks a lot I appreciate that post...yeah I know I should roll with the punches more, I guess my way of responding is just long rambling posts.

I meant a band of plastic that came around the box, it was on the two other kits I ordered via amazon, I assumed it was from factory since I only see scotch tape in retail
I've checked dalong and everything is there, some pieces fell off the A runner when I moved the bag
After assembly the only odd thing is some loose joints but my hyakuren is way worse in that regard
>>
>>6019193
All good then.

I meant that if it was a bootleg the quality of the plastic in the kit might be different from the real thing.
>>
>>6018785
Bullshit, Clem made that exact joke on mic last year at SCGMC and members of their group, including him, were placing in categories.

Not just the Norcal guys.
