Honestly, they're all pretty good despite a few faults here or there. The most solid overall in terms of having no defects though are definitely anything with the Superion body and CW Bruticus though.

Worst overall is easily Skylynx, followed by pre-fix Menasor, and post-fix Menasor. Menasor-with-PE-kits is a solid B- though.

So I'm going to be making a custom combiner out of "spare" Combiner Wars figures, with a "theme" of obscure characters with almost no fictional appearances/characterization. I've got Alpha Bravo and Rook, who will be unmodified, Dragstrip, Firefly and SIlverbolt. Dragstrip I'm thinking of turning into the old Rotor Force dude Leadfoot, but what about Firefly and Silverbolt? Who should they be made into? Also, what should the combined mode be called?

Oh it's a silly idea for certain. It's just the toys in question aren't in good enough condition to sell and I don't want them to "go to waste". As for Alpha Bravo and Rook, they've got very little characterization at all in IDW- Alpha Bravo's personality is "generic good guy" and Rook hasn't done anything at all.

I love RiD as much as the next guy but no. Rid was far from the best retail TF toyline it had it's lion's share of problems and Rail Racer was no exception.
Including being way undersized for their pricepoint. All the individual guys look like hot shit in bot mode with their awful proportions. And the combined mode while decent has it's problems. Like the overly long forearms and the fact that 75% of rapid run just makes a backpack that makes him back heavy. A new Rail Racer made of 3 modern Voyagers could easily be better than the Original.

They where about right for the era. it was still around beast era when they where made, and figures where smaller. Besides, it was only $5 more than deluxes. BM Megatron was tiny, and BW Transmetal Megas where also fairly small. Besides, the US retail versions already had less paint than the Takara versions, and that was in 2001. Now they'd have even less paint, and probably ugly alt-modes.

I hope the TR box sets are the same number or greater than the Combiner Wars ones.Essentially we got double the amount of waves with the box sets and they capped off the line with Liokaiser which was something that nobody would have thought would happen.

Even though three CW box sets were g2 combiners it made sense because those actually existed. The headmasters however are all G1 themed and they seem to be willing to go to greater lengths to get more lesser known and nitche characters. We could easily get shit like Minerva and other characters redone for the line.

I was thinking that they might be able to make a modernized version of this and sell it to a western audience by varying the train types that make them up, after all the original was just 3 slightly different bullet trains which were all Japanese. I was thinking maybe only leave the leader as a bullet train who would be the combined mode's head and arms, then they could make a smaller guy to be the midsection, perhaps a subway car (I live in New York so I might have a bit of bias since my brain defaults to that when I think "train") and finally the dude who becomes the legs could be a huge diesel or steam train. It might be hard to think of them as a unit since they'd need different kinds of track to run on, but the increased variation in the character looks could be a nice selling point.

On that note, I generally like Katoki's style. He's not nearly as convoluted as a lot of people make him out to be, and in the same vein, he's not as simplistic as others make him out to be either. When he's given free reign to go nuts, he can pump out some pretty gnarly stuff (his work in Sentinel and some from Unicorn come to mind.)

In addition, a lot of his original work actually tends to have rather thick legs compared to most designers (Victory, Sinanju, Unicorn, EX-S, etc,) which in turn tends to make the torso look small (another issue a lot of people have.) He's not my favorite mechanical designer, but he's definitely in my top five. My only real problem with Katoki is when he redesigns something just for the sake of having lineart of an existing design in his pose. That's just stupid and a waste of his talents. Unfortunately, it's what he's called upon for most often.

Rattrap is heavily rumored, and Considering how we got Ultra Magnus and Hot Rod in generations within two years of an MP, I'd say its not the best measure as to what's getting an MP or not. I always tend to prefer bigger figures (which is why I have a lot of MPs) but I can still enjoy well made legendses and deluxes. CW Shockwave is still easily my favorite CW figure.
