Godzilla gets 4 forms as it evolves.
That's the second (the first one we actually see in the film when he comes to land).

His eyes are shark-like and still adapted for water at that point, so they're large and don't have a proper 'eyelid'. He instead gets a nictitating membrane that covers his eye from danger like explosives.

In his final form (the one from all the trailers) his membrane looks chrome and reflective, which protects his eyes from the intense light and heat of his own atomic breath.

It's also freaky as shit.

Depends on how much you're getting him, basically. I got mine for very cheap so I'm not too bothered with, but man did Bandai fuck up the nice sculpt with dumb engineering choices. There's also an issue with him being too small, torso can pop off easily, and no outward movement of the arms.

He's not a bad figure though, just could have been much nicer. He's very cute.

I really like them. The Kaiju from the line are really big, hefty figures, and they look fantastic. Hardship and Otachi are especially good in my opinion, your choice of flying or crawling otachi, and knifehead is also very nice. Sometimes they sacrifice some articulation for the sake of the sculpt, but the sculpts look amazing, and most of them have enough articulation for their price. The weakest articulation is Leatherback by far, but he's still okay if you liked his design.

Watch out for the wave 1 Knifehead, its smaller (wrong scale compared to gypsy) and has bad articulation, because the first wave was produced with intent to be sold at Walmart, but Walmart backed out. They improved the line drastically in the rest of the run.

Honestly I recommend both, if you've got the budget and desire. But flying Otachi is probably more impressive, if limited. You just can't pose him in any way that relies on him using his front arms for crawling, but they are articulated so you can fan them out in different flying poses. If you get both you can take swap their tails, Land otachi has his full articulated tail, while flying otachi's tail is a stump from gypsy breaking it off, but the stump is removable and can be replaced with his long tail.

Mutavore is as great as Hardship, he uses the same body sculpt for the most part. He needs a stand to pose in his stance from the movie, but that's a product of his design, it's so front-heavy that's basically inevitable. He is one of the last ones in the line, and his articulation shows the lessons they learned making the rest of the line. I highly recommend him.

Ultimate striker is much better than standard striker, its a solid Jaeger if you like the design. Consider picking up Cherno, he's the real star of the Jaegers. Also Mutavore seem to show up on shelves in stores pretty often. I've seen him in comic shops in Chicago, and even souvenir shops while I was in LA for work.

Wasted in the film by never having a shot showing this. I saw it three times in theaters and the closest thing to highlight this is a 2 second shot when G is frozen and the jaw from the tail drops open with a clunk. The shot is so quick and the tail so dark that without knowing it's a face you can't tell what's happening, and even knowing you still can't really make out any details.

Well that's just my opinion, looking at the X-Plus they get the look of a warty, reptilian skin texture down perfectly (which is what the Pacific Rim monsters are) where as NECA's line has a plastic finish to it, and the yellow streaks are much lighter and give off a more natural, transparent look, versus the bright and somewhat orange hue of the NECA. I think the beady eyes look just right on the X-Plus side too, they pop out much better, and the frontal eyeball is more accurate and not huge like the NECA one.

Though I do agree that joints have an affect on the appearance of the figure, I'm not the "joints look ugly" anon, that guy was just baiting you.

So I never keep up with releases, but Shin got me too excited.

ShinG comes out end of this month.

I see Neca is up to their old tricks with QC.
Just got ultimate striker Eureka today. Turns out one of his shoulders is completely misassembled causing it to stick out farther than the other. This obviously changes it's ROM and makes posing awkward. The eblow on that arm doesn't get the full 90 degree bend like the elbow on the opposite arm does, I had to remove plastic from the area with a knife to aid with this. And that entire arm is wobbly.

Finally almost all of his joints were seized and I had to carefully ease each one onto their ROM's terrified they would break the whole time.

I'm so disapointed because the box looks steller and on paper the articulation is awesome minus the hindered legs.

I recently got godzilla 1954 though and he was perfect

Eh, I see what people mean when they say that but it crossed a line for me.

All that cheesey stuff back in the 1960s-70s was super fun and endearing. Still is.
But seeing that camp in 2004 made it "cringey" to me, and I don't bust out that word lightly.
I can't exactly out my finger on it, I think it was kind of like how it also felt like it was trying to be like a serious anime at times, but in live action, and 2004 special effects arent as fun as 60s-70s practical effects.

I didn't like it as a movie but all those suits designed by the all-time great toku artists like Terada and Nirasawa really got me watching till the end. I can't stand Kitamura's style when it's for human actors, that's just what he goes for.

Oddly enough I was a kid nearing the end of the showa era but my fav Godzilla film was still the very first, something about it was just creepy to a kid back then, but I definitely enjoyed the Godzilla vs King Ghidorah style.

Shin Godzilla is pretty much the movie I had always been waiting for. I missed out on pre-orders so I'm hoping to get the SHM... with... not so-rape prices.

SIC guy here... Finally am getting into SHMonsterarts since the very first release... but that one I got on pre-orders.

I missed the pre-order on Shin G, not because I was holding out, but just because I was away on a work trip. How much am I looking at to pay for it and where would be my best options?

I bought a used King Ghidorah monsterarts for dirt cheap, but I guess his previous owner did some fuckign shit to him because he's covered in gunk in certain places. his wings are also slightly glued. But that stuff is passable what bothers me is on Bandai's part. He falls apart way too easily and won't stay connected.
