Well, i grew up watching Preds ripping skulls and Xenos raping faces, so it's hard to avoid liking neat toys of both.
I currently have more Xenos than Preds, but that should change as soon as i get my hands Scarface, Serpent Hunter and Ultimate Jungle Hunter.

They're not Canadian but the AvP movies did use Amalgamated Dynamics instead of Stan Winston Studios (or Howard Berger who did Predators and worked under Stan Winston).

The next film is supposed to be using Amalgamated again so we'll probably be seeing the fat head suits again. With Shane Black helming it'll likely be a shitfest anyway.

Anon from the last thread who was inquiring about Xenos and Kaiju 'n' shit here. So I get that the "Dog Alien" should be the most poseable, but I have to ask, will the red one be just as good as the black one? Also, I'd still like to know how the articulation is for the 7" kaiju. Specifically Axehead and Mutavore. Additionally, why do so many of the kaiju have weird lines on them?

The red is just a repaint, so yes.

Axehead has limited elbow range but real good articulation otherwise. Mutavore has excellent articulation but does require a stand to stay up.

Really, the only reason they got bigger is because it was a byproduct of the added articulation. Look at the AvP Predator legs. The construction is completely different especially when taking into account how that added knee piece works. They're not bigger because they "were bigger in the movies" (they were actually squatter and stockier in AvP than in the other movies. In fact, they were pretty open at NECA about how they hated those designs, so they made them leaner and more athletic looking.)

The figures being taller is just sort of an unfortunate result of them being much better constructed as figures. Randy was pretty upfront with the fact that they took liberties on the actual designs.

It's worth noting though that it depends on the pred and the body, Scarface for example uses the same bodys as the AvP Preds, but he is probably the tallest predator so far, much bigger than a regular human or the movie preds.

I know that feel, some exclusives do reach my country, but the regular figures usually end up costing 3 times the original value, so you can imagine how much an exclusive costs around here... With the price of a single cloacked Scar i could buy 3 regular new Predators here, and with the price of a single regular new Predator here i could probably buy 3 more regular predators in the states...

Funny thing is that these figures used be cheaper before the economical crisis, but old figures that costed less retained their price, so rare/pricier figures from before cost about the same as new regular figures now. Pic related, Big Red and Scar all cost about the same here, which basically means we will have to pay premium price, no matter what...

I looked at the game model and it looks fine to me. To be honest the graphics don't look that great from what I've seen and all the Predators are very clearly aping the AVP design so there's no real reason not to just use that. If there wasn't the AVP design it probably would have never got made at all.

In answer to your actual question (why the articulation isn't so great on the Ayylmaos) it's probably because NECA focuses on sculpt over articulation, to an annoying degree IMO. It does produce some very nice looking figures, but the articulation definitely suffers. I don't have the Dog Alien but I do have a Warrior (same mold as the Big Chap for the most part, at least in regards to articulation). His limbs are great, but the torso is kinda sucky. He really could have done with a joint at the base of the neck, and really the "headrest" should have been on a joint- as is you have to take it off to get full range of motion out of the head, which leaves an ugly hole in his back. Still a good figure but damn I wish he was a bit more poseable.

Can't blame you for not knowing it initially because it's half fan term and they don't say it anywhere on the packaging. But the Big Chap is the design from Alien, they called it that on set because the actor was like 7 feet tall. Any toy that uses the Alien 1 design is usually called a Big Chap. The most noticeable differences are a clear smooth dome (Aliens replaced the fragile glass dome on the costume with a more durable and easy to duplicate ridged dome in opaque colour), big heeled feet on the toy (Isolation Xeno has digitigrade/"chicken" legs), six fingered hands on the toy and 5 back pipes (one is removable). The Xenos ftom Aliens are usually called Warriors and the Alien 3 is called Dog Alien because it came from a dog in the movie. After that any differences just get called by what movie they're from.

Anyway, the toys do have pretty good articulation, they just can't crawl but you can't do much about it other than bitch

Not that anon, but I thought I'd throw in some of my photos for the "crawling Alien" discussion. I had my Grid Alien posed like this for quite some time without ever needing to heat up the joints (the only heating it required was to straighten out the fingers since they were warped in the package).

As an aside, I currently have my Dog Alien in this pose with all four legs and tail off the ground. Though not a crawling pose and more like it's perched/sitting up like a dog (since anon here has shown it can do it too >>6007364) I thought I'd post it anyway to give you some ideas.

Also I forgot to mention, I didn't have to twist Grid's torso to achieve these poses >>6013794 >>6013802 rather its legs can actually go that far and still maintain its balance.

Yeah they did. Apparently that was one of the added changes they've made along with the cut off tail.
